Weight Loss Help...I'm mid binge. Mar 03 2009

Here is how I try to break out of a binge:  exercise, for 30 min to an hour.  This will give you energy and keep you from wanting to eat.

Drink two big bottles of water.  You won't want to eat after that, and you're not hurting yourself with water.

Go out, hang out with some friends, go shopping... do something to break out of the rut your in...that cycle.

Strong coffee...like starbucks or your local coffee shop. Espresso always suppresses my appetite.

List all your accomplishments...not just weight loss in your journal.  Feel good about yourself.  Do something pampering for your body, to make your self feel good inside and outside.  Dress up nice in a outfit you know you look extra hot in.

Don't get down on yourself.  YOU CAN DO IT! A little binge is no big deal, just come back and try again.

Vegetarian Being a vegetarian Mar 01 2009

I agree with a lot of what yall have said, but I think being a vegetarian really isn't a big enough deal to feel it can be a bad choice... seriously is it less healthy than the special k or slim fast diets? LOL.  Also, I became veg for animals, straight up, and weight loss was just a happy accident.

With that disclaimer, IMHO!  I was vegetarian for 4 years, lost a little weight.  I became vegan and have been for another 5 years now, and lost AN INSANE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT.  Not quickly, slow and steady.  And I have always eaten my fair share of food.  I have so far lost a total of 150 lbs.

Anyone who knows a little about cooking can find all kinds of fake stuff (fake meats, ice cream, sour cream, cheese, soymilk etc) and be vegan. It is not hard to be healthy with it if you cook for yourself or just eat food from other cultures-italian, mexican, asian foods all have lots of vegan options.

If anyone needs any tips with this just mess. me. After 5 years I know the gross vegan foods from the good stuff and a million recipes too.

Weight Loss Am I eating too much or too little? Feb 21 2009

I am 5'4 and 28 years old. I used to weigh 280.  At 145 for a 5'4 person cc lists me as slightly overweight.

Thanks for the advice!

Weight Loss have you hit plateau? Feb 21 2009

I have definitely also been on the plateau.  I would agree with ephinzat in saying that cheat day sped up my weight loss.

Stuck at 150 forever, then ate like a pig and drank on Vday, and though I felt horrible the next day, the scale had finally budged and dropped 5 pounds over the week.

I have read a lot about plateaus (stuck at 150 for 2 months gives you a lot of time)  and I saw a lot of recommendations to change workouts, cycle eating, do the staggered caloric intake thing, and start eating more.

It sure does suck, but you can do it.

Hey skinny,

Mine was too.  Have you been adding your current weight to the weight log as you go?  That will move it too.

Mine went from june 22, to june 29, then I entered my weight and it went to june 8- after I lost a couple pounds.

Try that and best wishes on your journey!

I lost about 150 lbs. with just diet and exercise. The constant exercise does keep you from having a flap, like everyone is saying. I do have extra skin though, it mostly is just kind of a little saggy and wrinkly- all those extra skin cells have to go somewhere and tightening and toning only does so much when you lose that much weight.  It is not a flap at all and certainly no worse that all those horrible celeb on the beach photos in star mag.

Although 150lbs is different than 50 lbs, I will say it is worth it, you will still like your stomach better once you have lost the weight.

I still exercise and am trying to lose the last 20, so yeah, it's totally worth it.

I am a workaholic so i never had time to go to the gym. I am also really self concious about my athletic ability or lack thereof.

I went on craigslist, and everyone is always selling their old equipment on there. Bought a nice elliptical trainer for 200 bucks!  Now I can work out at home and I work out almost every day!

Still figuring out the weight training though- bought some little weights, thinking about buying some resistance bands, maybe a video?
