Fitness Learn to Run - Who wants to do this with me?? Jul 06 2008

Ok, so I will be starting week 3 of of the program. I varied it slightly; i 'm doing the C25K program, only because i found podcasts with music that tells you when to walk/run. I didn't have a digital watch, and downloading a free podcast was the cheaper option.

Aside from shin splints, I'm already doing better. Before I would be checking ym watch at 45 SECONDS! Now, i can go a minute and a half! Yay! So as to not clutter the thread, please check my journal if you're so inclined regarding my progress. I think i will post here once i complete a week.

yiscah, it would be fun if we could try to do it together... keep ourselves accountable and all that. I currently keep a cc journal on my progress... feel free to peruse it and leave comments. Why are you getting lightheaded? Are you breathing ok? Yup, i did run yesterday (thursday), and my shins were hurting, but i completed the run. :)

Like strawberry dolly, my outher thighs get itchy-- i've been told it's a circulation thinkg--all the blood rushing to your skin to loose heat can be itchy and tingly.  With continued excercise, though, it shoul stop happening.

Have you tried WebMd or something? If you can't afford to go to a doctor now, perhaps you could self-diagnose using that website...

I just started this program today. I've NEVER considered myself a runner, not even when i was a kid/teenager. My lungs would just give out and I'd be sucking wind, big time! I did my 3/1 (walk three minutes, run one minute) today and I must admit, it felt great! On my way back, the skies opened up and i got poured on. AWESOME!

Question: how do I log this activity in CC? It not exactly running, nor is it walking. Any suggestions?

It seems you have mad egerat progress!! Do you think it's a lifestyle you will be able to maintain?

While I'm not one for fasting, I did do a colon hydrotherapy session a few weeks ago... it was unusual, to say the least. I did get rig of 1lb of crap , though, so that was good. :)

Hey secret,

thanks for the links! I also keep in mind the rate of perceived exertion, because I don't think the formula (22-age) is accurate for me.

Also, I've noticed that as soon as I stop excersicing (in the cool down period) my heart plummets back to normal!!! woohoo!!! that means my cardiovascular system is getting better! :)

So wait, I'm confused... if we have trouble staying below our calorie limit (meaning we usually eat more), then we're supposed to eat even more??

On average, how many calories were you eating and how many were you burning? For how long? And how did they determine your body was in starvation mode??

concerned,

Huh. You wanna talk about calories in coffee??? I used to be a part-time barista at a Starbucks in Barnes and Noble, and we had to have the "nutrition information" binder behind the counter. It is available upon request for customers. Let me tell you, the calories and fat in ANYTHING at Starbucks cafes is OBSCENE. I'm talking 600 calories for a grande frappucino, and the flavored coffee (with pumps of vanilla or whatnot) are just as bad. After that, I go to SBUX sparingly, and when I do go, I order shorts (the smallest size available, smaller than a tall. I think it's only 8oz). Skim milk, on pump (hate sugar free stuff). A lot of people don't even know about the shorts, since I don't think they advertise it...

For those curious folks, I'm from Panama... nice and warm and tropical! ;)

Well, I'm still wondering if my current method will tyield results. I remember the last 2 times i lost weight, i did a ton of cardio-- kickboxing, steps, spinning, etc., which i haven't done this time around. I've been doing mainly cardio machines and weights. Maybe that's what i should do? Dunno. Maybe I'll try that this upcoming week.

Talk about unsupportive people! MY boyfriend is absolutely wonderful, most of the time. We worked out together on Sunday, and it was great. But then he came over to my house two nights ago and brought a bag of Softbatch cookies, jellybeans, and Milk duds! I'm not crazy about sweets, candies or cookies, but Mild Duds (or anything that's mostly caramel) is my utter weakness. I mean, why did he do that? he KNOWS I'm on a diet, and he KNOWS I love milk duds. And then, he did it again last night. Brought over a bag of jellybeans, saying that that was his dinner.

The most infuriating part is that he weighs 150, has a size 29 waist and washboard abs. The bastard.

Sunrise, I'm am TOTALLY there with you. We're on the same boat, and it sucks! But, I have faith in everone here on the board, and if they say it will pass, then i'm confident we'll lose some pounds next week!

I just measured myself last night for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised, and shocked!

arms: 12 (if i remember correctly)

waist: 34 (not as bad as i thought it would be)

hips: 45 (WTF???? where the hell did all that ass com from!!! Holy smokes!!!)

that can't be right... my roomie measured me, maybe she did it incorrectly???

Just got back from the gym. Worked out at a range of 160-180, depending on the song. It felt good, and my breathing was much more even now than it was two weeks ago. Plus, I had some whey protein before going to the gym, so hopefully i won't loose too much muscle...

Well, to day I ate around 1600 calories, more than I usually do. According to the calculator, i burned 1800 so I guess I'm still ok.

roxanned, thanks for the advice. I do mix up my foods a bit. I mean yeah, there are things I always eat, like milk, whey protein, oatmeal, etc., but not always at the same time of day, and definitely not the same thing every day. I would get bored in a hearbeat. I also try to do a different lean cuisine for lunch and some type of fruit.

Well, onward and downwards, i guess. I'll see what happens next wednesday...

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. They are not special socks, just socks I use only at the gym (since I use the elliptical w/o shoes and I don't want to bring those germs home).

The brand is Underarmor, anklets, and they're a bit thicker for comfiness. You can find them at any sporting goods store.

700 to 1000? Really??? Wow, that's intense!! No wonder I never saw any results doing 2 sets of 12!

I've always wondered about working out the abs every day. You wouldn't work out anyother muscle group every day... so why would you work out your abs every day? What makes them different?

Awesome, that's great to hear, considering I've gained a pound this week. I shall look at it as, shed three of fat (since I'm working in the fat burning zone) and gained two of muscle (since i LOVE lifting weights). :)

I actually think my HR is starting ot go down... that's pretty cool! Seeing measurable results is awesome.

My HR monitor does not track fat. :( So, you're saying that it's been your experience that int eh fat burn zone, as much as 50%of cals burned are fat? Wow...
