kareY: the results are mixed about soy...i'd rather err on the side of caution though. here is a link about it. there's always a plethora of pies during the holidays. always a pumpkin,  banana creme or custard, cheesecake, pecan, apple, and sometimes cherry. your soup sounds like something that will make you feel better...sounds like soup though instead of stew. though i don't really know if theres much of a difference i guess it's how much broth is used

john: i too like those pizza desserts. yum. i also like the cinna stix though...so good :)

Tri: if you're actually getting 2200 minimum each day then i guess you're fine but your BMI is a bit on the low side. We want to encourage healthy maintenance so long as you're being healthy you are oh so welcome here but we don't want others influenced by less than healthy habits. i'm sure you understand. thanks for the suggestion for something to bring for everyone but i have nowhere to prepare food to bring, i'm not driving there my ex's dad is picking me up, and so i won't be able to go to the grocery store, cook, etc. plus no one else brings anything so i'd look a bit odd.

Karey: i'd bring something but i dont' even know where i'm sleeping atm so to go and cook somewhere might be difficult. i'll just nibble and eat something later on. they do thanksgiving lunch anyhow, so it won't be too bad. i'll definitely be having some cheesecake though!! tofu stew? never have put tofu in any sort of dish like that...i'm not going to buy it anymore. there's breast cancer in my family and i want to eliminate soy to as great of an extent as possible.

Sara: i'd have cinnabon over a donut any day if i was going for taste, yes it makes me sick but it tastes darn good when i'm eating it.

Eva: i am rarely hungry, so i eat anyway...it's better for your metabolism and prevents insulin spikes. I would eat if i were you, you can't really expect to be HUNGRY if you're fueling your body well, and HUNGER leads to overeating anyhow. Yep, 5 hours of driving...ick. stove top is a brand of stuffing...google it...along with cinnabon..they are cinnamon rolls that are divine!

Tri: i don't drink, party, etc. either. I have too much to lose and it's not worth it to me to go out and make a fool of myself.

John: they will have a traditional meal, with turkey, ham, and lots of stuff using the drippings, turkey gravy, chicken stock, etc...so all i can eat is green bean casserole, corn, and the yams... but i've never liked those. Oh, and there will be salad, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and rolls. Do you think it would be "rude" of me to bring something actually satiating or should i nibble and eat something else AFTER? are you not much of a side dish guy? what about cinnabon, you didn't comment?

Eva: I don't think a pumpkin cheesecake would hold up well in the car for 5 hours. Its interesting thàt you referred to a punpkin cheesecake because I've not made one since last thanksgiving. I made a cherry cheesecake though. At the gym I just greet people and check them in. Pretty boring if I say so myself. And stuffing isn't actually very high in calories if it was a vegetarian version. I mean it CAN be but doesn't have too be at all. I personally love stove top and I think it rocks...perfect for thanksgiving!!

------------

Thinking about making a mini pumpkin pie today. Hmmm...we shall see. I ate waaaay more ice cream than planned, the nice lady was there and I had about 500 calories instead of 300. It was definitely worth it though. It tasted yummy!! For some reason I find 500 cals of ice cream more tolerable than an equal amount on cheesecake or cinnabon or something like that. Maybe its because I enjoy the ice cream a lot more.

Do you guys like cinnabon? I always get sick when I eat it because its waaay to sweet and rich but the taste is out of this world. Its a lose lose situation. Damned if you do and damned if you don't because you want it so bad but you let yourself have it and then you're ill. Aaaah. Good thing there aren't any cinnabons near me. Closest one is in the mall and I never go so no problems here.

----------------------------

so everyone, what are your thanksgiving plans if you celebrate it? i'm going back home. i'll be spending he holiday with my ex's family since they're like my own. i love them so much! i'll also visit with my own mom, if she's around that is. then i have that date, and that's about it. i'm thinking of taking my own veggie t.v. dinner meal. would that be wrong? they don't accommodate me at all, so i would basically have green beans casserole and corn for thanksgiving if i didn't bring something. maybe a roll too but that's the extent of it .

1/2 cup oats cooked in 1 cup chocolate soy milk, with 2 tbsp peanut butter, 1 oz nuts. then have 1/2 cup whole fat yogurt, 1 banana and a cup of juice ~ that's about 900 calories [not a lot of food. oatmeal, banana, yogurt and juice]

or

3 whole eggs cooked in 1 tbsp oil, topped with 1 oz regular cheese, a few slices of lean deli meat/tuna/tofu with 2 slices REGULAR ww bread spread with 2 tbsp peanut butter ~ 900 calories

or

1 cup regular yogurt, topped with 1 oz nuts, 2tbsp honey, 1/2 cup granola, 1 banana ~ 700 calories

then for lunch...

2oz dry pasta, 1 tbsp oil, 1/2 cup peas, 4 oz lean protein, 1 slice ww bread, 1 oz parmesan cheese~800 calories

or

2 slices ww bread, 2 tbsp peanut butter, 1 banana, 2 tbsp honey (make a sandwich with it), 1 glass milk ~ 700 calories

i'm at work atm....it's so boring. i just organized all of my notes so that i'll be able to write my paper quickly. hopefully it doesn't take longer than 1.5 hours for each of them. that's about 5.5 hours total with my lesson plan :( i should have done this last week. whatever, what's done is done. it isn't like anyone else has written there's 2 are actually due on tuesday, 1 tomorrow, and lesson plan tomorrow but since they're all related to the same thing i figure i'll just write them all at the same time. well not literally but i mean in the same time frame.

Eva: is that coffee one that you drew in yourself? That's so cool!!

Karey: sorry you're sick still :(  maybe with hubby away you can go get a pedicure or something to make yourself feel better. get pampered. go get a manicure even or a haircut. I always love that. I love panda! it's so yummy! I don't think ive ever had BAD panda...but i've definitely had less than ideal. Yep, that's how much I spend on groceries a month. That's okay. I figure I'm eating exactly what i want, and that has its costs. I'm willing to pay to eat what is tasty and satisfying to me :) i used to have a problem with it but i'm over that now. haha

--------------------------------

I have  a date when i go home. It's with a guy that i kinda dated before my ex..nothing serious, I was young but we're older now. He's in the navy and is going back home for thanksgiving and will be there when i'm there. i'm only going back for a few days. that means no workout. oh my...that's scary. haha. I'll probably jog or go to the gym at home. if i don't get a workout in for a few days that's okay too though. i'd prefer to workout but if i don't it's whatever. I have 3 papers to write by monday, a lesson plan, a commentary on my lesson plan, and some notes for a group project so tomorrow isn't looking too fun. I of course have to work in the morning, opening the club, then I have my long cycle woot woot. Then i'll go to the bookstore and write some, go get ice cream, back to the book store to write some more and then home for lunch. write some more, write some more, dinner, write some more. Hopefully i'll be done by then . this really sucks though.

John: its refreshing that you feel the way you do about love but don't assume that everyone else shares your caring and positive view. I wish they did but they don't. My ex's dad constantly belittled his wife, she was overweight and he would tell her he's not attracted to her and didn't want to be physical with her when he was not in shape himself. She wasn't even obese or anything just a little chubby. She lost weight and then he was mad because other people looked at her. So I know what you mean about having a connection that's deeper than physical and even transcends the physical flaws because me ex is beautiful, he is physically everything I could want but the way he treated me made him repulsive and unattractive in my eyes. The same holds true in reverse I would assume, the way a person makes ýou feel can erase the physical imperfections and allow you to see beyond that. I'm glad Ÿou have found the person who makes your life complete and its unwavering, that is a blessing but I think it has more to do with the way you perceive love (should be universal but unfortunately its not). Hmm....someday I hope to have that :)

My dad's 50th birthday today so I've saved most of my calories for the meal out tonight:

B: slice of wholemeal toast with reduced sugar toast + an orange (200)

L: two slices of wholemeal bread with one dairylea extra light triangle + crisps (chips) + a kit kat caramel (430)

D: carvery meal which will be roast turkey, vegtables and gravy + a dairy ice cream sundae (900)

S: slice of birthday cake + half sugar braccadi breezer (320)

Total: 1850

Hey emma...can i challenge you to eat 2000 calories today and add a snack somewhere before dinner? maybe some peanut butter and an apple since you don't have much fat. your dinner might be an overestimation as well. turkey is pretty low cal, and even with veggies and gravy i'd assume a modest portion would run you 400-500 calories and then the ice cream sundae. what's a half sugar bacardi breezer? alcoholic? sounds yummy!!

Sara: vegetarianism is such a fad these days it gets on my nerves. i guess since i've been vege for so long that it just gets irritating when other people assume i just jumped on the bandwagon like everyone else. my motto has and always will be "like what you eat and eat what you like" i don't believe in imposing food beliefs/preferences/etc. on others and i don't believe in eating food that isn't good to you and on the flip side i don't believe in denying food that tastes good to you. meat included. i wish everyone would just jump off the vegetarian bandwagon...lol it's making weighing the wagon down...haha. sorry for the rant. it's not directed at you just the whole school being vegetarian friendly to accommodate the increasing number made me think about it. your essays have number counts? i havent written one of those since applying for college. haha. we usually get page counts. So, do you get excited when you finish shows or sad? or a bit of both?

John: just curious...is your wife insecure about her weight? do you find her attractive even though you're incredibly fit? has your view of HER changed since you've changed your life?

Even though my logical brain knows I do not look repulsive just because I've gained 10lbs or whatever, my emotional responses are telling me that I'm unlovable, I've got no self control and should be dead.  I also know that these feelings wont go away just because I lose some weight, but I'd like to lose some just so I at least feel a bit more comfortable in my own skin, and feel healthier.

please go and see a therapist. this response is one that indicates you need help that cannot be given through an online site. talk to your parents, a friend, someone because i think your weight issues and body image are a reflection of something greater. you would wish death on yourself over a few pounds? reevaluate what weight means, it's really scary that you would put so much weight on something so trivial. Again, please seek professional help.

Karey: you need to expand your horizons...make a new recipe!! try one of the dessert from HG, try a pumpkin one :) then tell me all about it so that i can do it too!! I really want some fantastic tea now that you've been talking about it. I have passion tea from starbucks atm, jamocha yerba mate, a white tea, awake tea from starbucks, ginger lemon from stash, and honeybush from stash. So 2 from each company...haha. have to keep it balanced. I've been drinking bigelow i love lemon tea lately..it's one of my favorites.

---------------------------------------------

So, i calculated my grand total of spending on foods...guess how much it is each day...this is of course an average and based on todays eats alone which are pretty typical for a weekday...$17.30 for one day!!! oh my gosh that is ridiculous...i could eat a yogurt, bagel, and a fruit for breakfast for $1.75, eat at panda for lunch for $6, subway for dinner for $5, have 1 cup grocery store ice cream for dessert and still end up cheaper. that's terrible. granted i would be starving still but seriously, 17 bucks for a day of eats? wow.

I would say to take small steps...this might make it easier to correct the negative thoughts/behaviors surrounding your eating habits...

so make a list of things you WILL do, things you WON'T compromise on...for example,

I will...

1. eat at least 3 meals and 2 snacks EVERY single day (if i'm not hungry I will take a handful of nuts, dried fruit, 2 tbsp peanut butter, etc. and eat that but i WILL eat)

2. not eat the same meal twice in one day (eliminates using safe foods to meat goals)

3. not lower my calorie intake regardless of the speed of gain (leads to acceptance of the weight--i did this and when i felt uncomfortable about the gain i kept my calories consistent, when i gained less than planned i increased them but never moved backwards).

4. combat defeating and self destructive thoughts with positive self talk (tell yourself all of the amazing things that you bring to your relationships, life, and the world--maybe you're funny, compassionate, caring, sensitive..maybe you're good at something and you can think about those things).

5. talk to someone when I feel that my thoughts are overwhelming and might lead to negative behaviors.

In regards to food specifically though I think that the columns are good. The NEVER eat foods though should not be ED fueled NEVER EATS in my opinion...so if you're religious, have health concerns, or are following some health related diet that makes it so that you physically can't eat certain things then i'd put those foods there. Foods that you are simply afraid of but once ate, or things that taste good to you but you've banned them should go in the would eat column, and then the more comfortable foods in the "now eat" column...i'd try to incorporate at least one of the "would eat" foods into your diet a few times a week to get over the fear. Just pick a few days each week and say this will be my adventure day, i am going to eat X food and it scares me, but i will eat it. even if it's just a little bit at first you're still moving in the right direction, and maybe next time you'll have a little more. I don't think you should leave those foods in the"would eat" column there because it fuels the ED mindset, you have to conquer those foods in order to truly develop that healthy relationship that you yearn for.

Are you going to count calories? If not then maybe setting guidelines for meals that aren't so rigid but something like

1. i will have meant/protein at every meal

2. i will have a full serving of grains/pasta at every meal

3. i will not have more than 2 cups of veggies at any given meal

4. i will not drink anything until after my meal is over

Anyhow, I think you're very capable of beating this!! You sound like you are positive and ready. That's great! i have already said waaaaay too much but i hope something in here was helpful!! feel free to PM me with any questions, or to just chat!

Weight Loss Amount VS Quantity Nov 21 2009
00:38 (UTC)

i was just listening to the best life diet podcast...it's kind of old, but Bob Greene was saying that if we're missing essential nutrients, even if we are eating enough calories we will crave the nutrients we are missing and end up overeating so basically it's necessary to not "fill up" on vegetables and things of that nature in order to be able to eat the most possible because it will likely backfire because your body will be"hungry" for whatever it's missing. So long as you eat a balanced diet though you wouldn't have this problem usually this occurs with people who follow fad diets or restrict one of the macronutrients.
