Original Post by jewelsmcblah: I think the only way I'd wanna see this guy is through the peep hole (that's what I call it). That's just down right scary, funny as well, but still scary. |

| Foods | Shopping for groceries! | Mar 12 2009 19:50 (UTC) |

Shopping for two is me! I'm not married, but I shop for me and my daughter. There is one key into shopping healthy. Most everything you need is on the perimeter of the store. Your veggies, meats, dairy, produce are all on the outside, aka perimeter. I try not to delve into the heart of the store unless I need something specific. Like, flour, sugar, cereals and then I add it to my list. I am a bad impulse buyer so I have to have tunnel vision when I am shopping. I also find it difficult to get meat packaged small enough for two people. So if I have to I buy family size and then break it down at home and throw them into freezer bags (works great). Here's my basics over the last couple of weeks. Fruits - Banana, Apple, Strawberries, Melon (depending on how good they look), Pineapple Veggies (all fresh) - Green beans, spinach, tomatoes (love Roma), onion, potato's, broccoli, bell peppers, cucumbers, baby carrots, corn, squash, zucchini Meats (leanest I can get) Fish - beef (steak, ground, stew, roast), pork loin, chicken breast/medallions or boneless skinless thighs... we love tilapia filets, salmon filet's and shrimp Dairy - Skim Milk (vitamin fortified), yogurt usually either plain or vanilla or both (we like to add fresh fruit to it), Eggs, Cheese low fat cheddar (medium), mozzarella and Swiss, butter no salt Bread - Wonder Wheat Light I usually average about $70-80 a week. |

HAHAHA! Seriously? Are you serious? How would he know if shining lights were on him if someone was pumping sleeping gas into his apartment? I'd assume that means he's sleeping a lot or going to sleep with out realizing it. Maybe he has narcolepsy! |

| The Lounge | What do you expect of friends? | Mar 06 2009 22:37 (UTC) |

I expect from a friendship what I put into a friendship. For me, I have very few friends, but tons of people I know and like and I get along with. Lying is not acceptable. Why lie? Seriously? I've had the same thing happen to me before and it just so happened to be a deal breaker/last straw in the friendship. This was a childhood friend of almost 20 yrs at the time and I had put up with a lot through out the years. But I came to realize she has no respect for me if she lies to me, especially just to get out of a comittment. You deserve respect and that respect is knowing the truth. |

| Weight Loss | What do you miss most? | Mar 06 2009 18:23 (UTC) |

Original Post by dreadfulpenny: I'd have to agree on the mochas, and just eating whatever and whenever. I just started this (1 mth 3/11). I think I miss the 'ease'. Being a single mom and working all day and then coming home and cooking can get rough. So right now, even though I enjoy cooking, I miss the 'ease' of being able to pick something ready made from a store or restraunt. But, alas, I know this will pay off for me and my daughter, so onward and forward. |

| Weight Loss | how am i supposed to respond without hurting his feelings? | Mar 04 2009 00:12 (UTC) |

There's not going to be a way to broach the subject and not hurt his feelings. As previously stated, he knows he's overweight. All overweight people know they are. I am obese, I have been obese for years and my feelings were hurt when anyone talked to me about it, regardless of how they approached it. It's not an easy subject. I'm not saying don't talk to him about it. Definitely do, it's best to talk openly and honestly in a relationship. You are in a relationship and have a right to be heard. HE is going to have to be the person to make the choice to loose weight, there's no forcing it on him. I don't know that avoiding the subject when he brings up the low self esteem is the answer either. Putting a verbal band-aid on it is only temporary "I love you no matter what" may not really be addressing what is bothering him. I'm sure the re-affirmation that you love him helps, but maybe try to ask him questions on why he is low, even if you know the answers. Getting him to talk about it a little more may open his eyes a little and it may help you both in the long run. |

My mom went on the hunt one day for me a couple years back while on one of my 'diets'. One of the best she found is Wonder Wheat Light Bread. It's 40 cal a slice and tastes wonderful. Also if they are bottles of water in the break room, from a vending machine. They are probably 20 oz. It will say on the front of the label. |

Hi everyone, So my starting weight is 348 and that was on 2/11. I guess I haven't figured out where to go to get my 'ideal' calorie intake. My burn meter says 3100, so I went down to 2600 and then just yesterday decided to try 2500. I just recently saw a show where a woman died who dropped weight to fast and her heart became unhealthy and she died. Yeah it was fiction, but it still scared me. So I haven't really figured out an ideal target calorie intake. Should I go lower on my intake? |

From what I've been reading here and seeing on TV, your body is in 'emergency mode'. A segment on the Today show this morning says that for women anything below I believe 1100-1200 calories a day triggers the body to switch into this 'mode'. So your metabolism slows down and instead of burning the fat your body is storing the fat. You need to 'beef' up your meals from what I can see. Not literally eat beef, but add more to them. My snacks are usually fruits and veggies, right now I am on a banana/apple/carrots kick. Then I save my regular meals for the larger calories. Breakfast, I usually have 2 eggs and a starch of some kind, I really love egg sanwiches. Then lunch varies, I usually have left overs from dinner the night before (I figure it up before I cook, then cook it and then for my lunch I already know what my calories are). For dinner, I've been keeping with the leaner meats and instead of protein/veggie/starch, I've been alternating that with protein/veggie/veggie. I don't know if this helps, but I hope it does. |

Ummm, it's been 6 months and I'm still not completely unpacked in my house. I have out all of the essentials of course. And no one knows unless they go into my my 1/2 garage. My kitchen and living room are done and about 75% of mine and my daughters bedroom is complete. When I am completely unpacked the majority of what I didn't unpack is going to a garage sale/Goodwill. I lived 6 mths with out it...do I really need it? |
