Weight Loss how to stop SNACKING?? Oct 03 2009

This is my problem as well, but I have 3 young boys in the house who can and should have ice cream etc.....

I think by removing foods from your home you are not getting at the CORE of your problem....for me emotional eating.

I agree with the response change up your routine at night....if that is your week time.  Just one short walk or some exercises....may put you in a different mood and change the thought of snacking on "bad"snacks.

I think portion control is huge as well.....I have a BIG bowl of light, or sugar free or fat free ice cream just about every night.  I look forward to it, I count my cal's to have it and I truly enjoy it.

So bottom line for me deal with it.  Use some self control, count your cal's so you can have the snack you really are craving in a counted out amount and also really figure your triggers for snacking.

Good luck! You definitely are not alone......MANY of us are on the same page.

I try to stay at 400 or less per meal and eat a lot of fruits and veggies.  I also have this creation of beans that I use a lot because it is protein and no fat....what it is a a version of beans and rice but I don't necessary put it over rice some times with pasta or toast.  What I do is slow cook my favorite beans black and red in a crock pot for 10-12 hours with water and seasoning and little olive oil.  Than I freeze it in small batches and have one pretty much all the time ready in my frig.  I even put it over a salad...kinda like taco salad.

Don't forget I am reserving some cal's for my ritual of light/sugar free frozen yogurt/ice cream every night.

So typically, I am not all that hungry...it is just will power to make the right decision of what goes in my mouth.

Watch it with the partying....if that is with alcohol unfortunately it is twice as hard not to eat while you are drinking and I do think it makes it over all harder to lose weight.

You just can't have your cake and eat it too...theory.

Quarter Turn -  Well, you have made a great choice....not only stop binge eating, but figure out what to do instead of a binge.  Get out of the kitchen and away from the TV....go out side or get on the computer and chat.  Good luck I just lost the weight I gained on my last binge....and I am definitely trying to figure out how NOT to sabotage all my hard work of losing ever again.

I like eating at night while I relax watching TV....so for me I keep a reserve on enough cal's to have light and/or sugarfree frozen yogurt or ice cream....it is my vise!

I have been successful to lose and eat this almost every night....I reserve atleat 200 cal's and watch your serving size....but it keeps me feeling deprieved.

And yes I stayed away from the Nacho's!

First off I LOVE you name SweatpantsSundays!   I could live in sweatpants!

I literally just posted a topic in the same group-emotional with a very similar story...and we are about the same weight I am as of today 140....which is a gain of 4 from emotional eating falling from my total loss of 14 which just kills me all the work I put into getting those 14 off!

Please read my post so you are up to date on my story and YES I will try and help you by checking in with you once a day and e-mail me in your week moments.....this just might help me as well!

I have not been active for over a month, becasue of my depression and why today I finally got the nerve to come back to calorie count?  I think all things happen for a reason and maybe we were to connect to help each other threw this.....HANG IN THERE!

If nothing else we KNOW we are not alone!

I am not very savvy, but I will try and make you a friend.  And if your interested check in with me.

Folkharpist  Congrat's to you!  I am 44 and have been running since I was a young teen....it is the best!  No matter how your day is going or how you feel, AFTER a run I guarantee you will feel better!  It is just the BEST self esteem booster!  You go girl!

I did my first road race in years a couple of months ago and I am re-hooked!  Now I sign up for 5k and 10k's once about every other month....it feels great being with others who run and when you cross that finish line...it it just awesome!  The races keep me on track with my diet and exercise, because to run well you have to keep running.

Just one piece of advice that was told to me by a runner to past along to you: sprinting.  I sprint about once a week or so, it is another method to boost your endurance level.  All you need is about 5 or so really good sprints per time.  What I do is either on my own or with a partner go for a walk and every so often sprint about 200 ft/60 yards full hard sprint, walk for a while again and than do it again, until you have completed 5.....I feel it has helped me.

Also you mentioned San Diego? That is my area as well....a fun run coming up end of Aug. the 23rd it is the End of Summer Fire Run, it is 4 miles....check it out on line!  It is from LaJolla to PB, ends at a post party with a band and food/drinks etc....

Good Luck and keep running!

Just had to share the last two days for me have been the worst two since I started this diet...life style change.  I have a TON going on in my personal life and the stress finally broke me.  This if the first time I gained two pds...because of not eating healthy and within the program.

It is very hard to spring back....I can relate, but you know the bottom line is who did I really hurt me!  Right now, in my life I am trying to improve myself in every aspect, and my eating style MUST match this to be successful.

In the moment, which we all have, we all need to stop and really think why am I doing this....eating binges only hurt ME more in the long run.

I hope this helps....yummy_kitty, what you did for your house....really you should be proud of yourself...I bet it looks great....FOR YOU!

We all need to keep the focus it is about us, no one is going to be able to do this for us or make us happy....we have to start living and taking care of ourselves....not taking anger, depression,  stress out on our own bodies!

Keep chatting...it does help to know you are NEVER alone on this journey!

Weight Loss Low carb/calorie diet... Jun 06 2009
17:01 (UTC)

mmmbopwwe-

The best diet for you is no diet.  You need to change your eating habits, don't restrict yourself, but have a healthy diet.  The pie chart on the site is great learn your %, it is recommended for a healthy diet only so many carbs, fat, protein...etc.  Put in all your food in the log and watch you analysis....your score should not fall below a B....otherwise again my key word you are not balanced.

I think your system is probably a little "messed up" at this point.  You sound like I was not eating proper, but expecting big results from restricting yourself.

I have learned from CC it takes quite a while for your body to understand and come in tune with the 'NEW" healthy eating style I hope you start.  You have to be patience!  Sorry to tell you atleast 1 full month if not longer before you really will see some positive changes to you will happen.  But if you do this I promise you will start to feel so much better inside and out!

You said you have gained on a very restricted diet....probably because you were not getting enough cal's and your body went into survival mode.  I did that many times and than when I see the gain I was like...huh why bother and give up.

Also, fair warning some people do gain in the beginning of this program....but really what else do you have to do....just eat well and get on the scale in ONE month....I bet you will have good results.

Also I go by the cal tool in CC to tell me how many cal's I can have a day.  Try it...if you haven't yet.  But one warning on it, for me at 44 (so don't know if it will be the same for you)  I had to change my activity level lower than I thought to get the right cal's for me.  I am pretty active so I first put myself in Moderate but I wasn't losing until I put myself in less than moderate active....so some of this just take tweeking by you...but you will find the rt cal amount for you...just keep with it.

Remember this is not a DIET, this is a way of having a happy, healthy life for your relationship with food and having the best body you can.  This plan is a LIFE style, to have forever ( just at some point in the maintenance area vs. trying to lose wt.)

Good Luck!

Right on Clairelaine!  I couldn't have said it better myself!  I have done the no carb diet as well....it is not the way to live and you will yo yo again at some point.

Food is everywhere and you do have to eat it to survive....you need to learn how to have balance in you food choices and portions and add exercise to strengthen and tone you body.

There are no short cuts to this program.....we all have trie them NONE will work long term.  You have to come to terms with your weight and learn how to manage it and most importantly be HEALTHY!

Stop the madness of the no carbs.....trust me I have been with CC for about 4 months and I am at the best weight, body shape, strength....overall EVERYTHING I have been in years....almost longer than you are old (sad to say).

If I only knew than at 23 what I know now at 44....gosh I would have been a much happier person all those years about my body and food!

Stay with the program and keep chatting you will learn tons of info and get tons on motivation to stay on the right track!

Good luck!

Weight Loss When should you start losing weight? Jun 03 2009
01:01 (UTC)

Seems to be a commone question for new members (including me when I started).   WHEN WILL I LOSE!

It is very frustrating, but hang in there, if you ask most dieters it just takes a while, your body needs to adjust to what you are doing and I mean internally.

Also measure yourself....it might show that what first.

For me it took over a month to lose and I read as long as 3 months for some....depending how messed up you can be internally.

But on the way you should start feeling healthier and with more energy.

Just hold on....keep chatting and STAY WITH THE PROGRAM!  I promise it works!

I have lost more weight with this program than any in the last 14 years!

I KNOW it works!

Not trying to burst you bubble, but I do recall alcolhol being discussed befor by Ask Mary and I thought it did say it can have an affect on you metabolism and she recommends once in a while not a routine bases of having it.

Best advice cut back have it now and than, I don't think when you are trying to diet can you drink alcolhol on a daily bases.

I just don't have many cal's to play with and if I have wine it won't be one glass and it won't end with wine....than some cheese and who knows what else.

Good luck and Cheers!

I love lists like this here are a few I haven't seen above mine:

Sorry my first one I did see:  but I really liked it:  Deja Vu  (Denzel Washington) there is a twist...love stories like this!

Double Jeopardy....sorry again ditto as above another suspense with a twist I really liked.

Ok here are some I didn't see:  My absolute favorite movie that I personally own and force all my fiends to watch:  Saving Grace (Comedy)  (Brenda Blethyn and Craig Ferfuson) Great story....look it up.  Too much to explain....but you will wet your pants about the old ladies and the cereal!

Italian Job - great suspense  movie, very cleaver!  Good race scenes.

Entrapment  - Suspense with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sean Connery very well done and good ending!

Last recommendation I found looking over Netflix's Terminal with Tom Hanks the man without a country, stuck in an airport.....well done and interesting!

Hope you like them.

Thanks fellow CC's members....I appreciate you kind words!  It is nice to share these small mile stones with others that are in the small bag....people I am around are happy for me but they just don't realize how hard this is to do...and it does make me feel great sharing with other CC memebers.

Also another highlight: yesterday I maped out 6.2 miles for myself to practice for my next race on July 4th.  I was surprised how well I ran it for a first time: 58.38 min (9.4 about per mile)....I was completely amazed!  If I had not dropped the pds off I doubt my time would have been so good for my first time doing it.

Hang in there everyone....it is amazing how much stronger and healthier you will be getting in shape and losing the weight.  I really do feel like some iron chains have been cut off on me!

Maintaining is this bad? May 26 2009

I'm with the complusive  control group....I do weigh myself everyday. I am still in losing weight mode, but even once I hit maintain...I probably will continue to weigh myself close to daily and also continue to chart my weight with CC.

One of the major elements that has me losing is the charting of my weight, finding my pattern and understanding how I lose...so I don't freck out.  So I would think keeping that schedule of weighing pretty much everyday will keep me in check with my diet and weight.

So I vote yes to weighing!

Congrat's on getting to maintaining weight....also however you got there with weighing maybe best for you?

Thank you for your kind words everyone!  And Mmaynar1.....you can do it....have a great time at the cookout but just keep your focus on what is REALLY important to you.  You will be so proud of yourself if you can leave that cookout with staying in your limits!

I just spent the day at a baseball game and than out to dinner with my family and friends and I completely stayed in check with my limits....it does help to hit these small mile stones and it seems to give me an extra push to keep going.

Also FYI to all:  I received a compliment by a friend of my husband's right in front of him and the gentlemen hasn't seen me in a while and he said you can tell you really look great and really in shape.....boy did that make me feel good.  Please everyone if you see someone looking good tell them....you really can make there day!

All I have been doing is going to tool and clicking on calorie target.  I make sure my activity level is correct and it calculates....as others have said recently the system has been giving lower numbers CC said they readjusted the system and lately it just keeps going down?  For quite a while it was around 1400, than I lost a little and it went to 1300, than recently I had my first race and also went a huge power walk....my scale actually said I'm up a couple pounds which is strange....but the point is I went from saying my weight is 143,142 even 140 to yesterday back to 144 and now the calorie counter wants me at that crazy number of 1271!  I do think it is too low, but up to this point I was maintaining and losing...now today my weight is again 144! I am baffled and I do think something is off with the CC program ever since they readjusted the counter....CC people what is going on, I know others have complain about the new counter as well?

Kaila_a--  I read your bio...wow marathon runner that is awesome!  I just wanted to give you my two cents about you knees.  I think everyone has a personal limit as to what our bodies can handle if you at 23 you can train and do marathons I would suspect your body can handle it.

In my youngeryears I did train for a marathon....unfortunately it was too much on my knees.  So I settled into 10K's and really enjoyed them in those younger years.

Since than I have been using running as my form of exercise forever!  I also love to run and enjoy the challenge and always feel better emotionally afterwards....so I keep going.

Since I really am now trying to lose weight I signed up for this race basically so I would have a goal and now I have two reason to run....the race and my weight.  It has worked out well my first 10lbs have finally come off! And my speed went from 10 to 9.2 per mile.

I wanted to share with you my feelings about your knees....I feel a lot is genetic so if it runs in your family having knee problems you may want to watch them and also make sure your doctor feels all your running is safe.  Also, my mother does have bad knees and mine unfortunately look like they might be following her situation, but hopefully not as bad....my doctors advice was extra calcium...which I take and it does seem to help.  Also just keep in check if they bother you let up a little.

Good luck with the Boston Marathon.....wow!
