| The Lounge | How does your ideal body look like? | Jun 07 2009 10:45 (UTC) |

"Dream body. Fully working complement of limbs and organs, supported by a skeleton and surrounded by skin A lot of people aren't lucky enough to have even those bare minimums, are they?..... Let's get out of the shallows occasionally and count our blessings." Oh come on, now you're being unfair. You say that as if someone "ows" overweight people a healthy body? We're all responsible for ourselves and no one can take that away from us.I am healthy because i take responsibility of myself and its not something that's just been handed over to me on a silver spoon. You're saying its shallow and selfish to have goals that you strive for unless you're overweight or obese - why is that? |

| Weight Loss | Should i start maintaining now..? | Jun 07 2009 08:49 (UTC) |

thanks for the replies! :)
gi-jane: I've been planning to increase my exercising as during the past year i haven't really had a regular schedule because of frequent colds and my final exams - i've had limited time for exercising.. But now i want to work out at least four times a week because exercising gives me so much energy and makes me feel good about myself plus i sleep much better. The problem is though that i don't really count my calories :P so i don't really know how much i'm eating on a daily basis..! I think i'll try to continue the way i'm eating and maybe add a few extra snacks on the days i work out to see how my body reacts. You reckon its possible that if i start exercising more often and more regularly my body will automatically become hungrier and make me "naturally" eat more? Because i don't want to eat moreif i already feel full just because i'm working out more. |

| Fitness | How much protein? | May 19 2009 09:07 (UTC) |

Hey! I'd suggest these good sources of protein:
Surely there are protein powders and bars but they're merely supplement i.e. they're not a substitute for real food. |

| Fitness | What's your reason for taking supplements? | May 19 2009 08:47 (UTC) |

Yeah, i agree! I prefer to eat real food but sometimes a protein bar or shake is just that more convenient when you're hungry and on the go! Also if i'm extra hungry around snack time and i know i won't be having dinner until much later i'll have a bowl of plain yoghurt with some frozen berries and a scoop of vanilla flavoured protein powder :) that's a much better option than just eating sandwiches all day long imo. Personally i don't like to eat protein powders etc too often because all the artificial flavourings and additives sort of put me off of it. I take a good quality Multivitamin and Omega-3 capsules (both Poliquin) every morning and evening. I think its important to take multivitamins as very rarely do people eat such a varied diet that they would actually get all (and the right amount) vitamins and minerals that they should be getting. I only take them as supplements i.e. i don't eat like crap pretending it's enough to just pop some pills to make up for it :D I have a healthy diet with lots of veggies and protein rich foods so i'm just taking the supplements to make up for what i might be missing and to make sure i get enough of everything. In my personal experience especially the Omega-3's have improved my skin SO much! I suffer from acne but by changing my lifestyle (i've been more or less strictly primal/paleo for a year now) my skin is almost clear! |

Well BMI isn't really that great for measuring how healthy you are.. It doesn't take into account the composition of your body mass at all! I.e. two people with the same BMI, say 28, would both be considered overweight. But in reality one of them is sedentary and has never been active and hence has a very high body fat percentage. The other person (an athlete) has much more muscle and less fat, but still the same BMI as the high fat% person. So according to BMI they are both overweight when in fact the athlete is perfectly healthy whereas the other person is unhealthily overweight. One should also take into account that fat is lighter than muscle tissue and hence the composition of the body mass is even more significant! |

| Young Calorie Counters | Getting Rid of Cravings | Feb 15 2009 09:03 (UTC) |

i used to have major problems with mad carb cravings, but ever since i gradually started the Paleo diet (no grains but a lot of fruit, veggies, nuts, dairy and meat) i don't feel as adicted to sugar as i used to. However, i still have cravings occassioanally and i sometimes end up bingeing :S but these days i think my cravings are simply psychological e.g. my body isn't addicted to sugar anymore its just the habit that i had that's stuck with me :S I'm really struggling with how to deal with the bingeing and the only way for me is to just move away from the food = go outdoors for example. Wonder if anyone's got a miracle cure for this (haha wishful thinking :P).. |

oh wow! it feels so good to hear that there's others like me (even though this is something i wish no one had to have), and even the weird food combo thing :D i thought i was the only one.. But yeah, i guess its not that bad to do it every now and then but mostly i just get really scared that i'm ruining everything i've worked for for such a long time when i get this urge to binge, you know? And when i get these binges its like i'm in some kind of trance i can think clearly and reason why i shouldn't do it but if i've even considered doing it there really is no stopping me - its like my mind is made up even though i wouldn't even like the taste of whatever i'm eating and in the midst of it i want to stop but i cant :S. It really sucks to have pms sometimes :D blah. Yeah, i feel like this is a habit thats stuck with me even though i've gotten over my actual sugar addiction. I guess its really just psychological like i act the same way i did a year ago because thats what i used to do when i was under stress - which i'm under now too because of school. Hmm, could it be possible that when i'm under stress i binge only because i used to do it for 'stress relief' (obviously it didn't help in the end, kind of an instant gratification sorta thing)? |
