Young Calorie Counters I just dont know anymore...help please? Jul 16 2009

Whoops, forgot to put my age (17). Sorry..

Thanks for your help though. And when you I should eat 2000 calories daily, does that include exercise? For example, I eat 2300 calories, but take a 30 jog and burn 300 calories. Is this correct? Or do you mean if I don't exercise at all and eat 2000 calories?

Its hard to get this calorie stuff into my head. I mean I force myself to always eat 1800, thinking I should only eat 2000.

2400 just seems like a lot.

Thanks to the great ideas. I feel good that exercised today and yesterday after not doing that for about two months. Its hard when u have siblings who like to have junk food all the time. But I can manage

Also, i might join one or two of those groups angie952 mentioned, hopefully it will get me out of this slump.

BTW, I named that "food monster" in my head Johnny Fats haha

Motivation Tips on getting back on the wagon and, hopefully, staying there? Jun 03 2009

Original Post by lisajb74:

I think the biggest thing that I have found 3 months on that makes this successful for me at least is the fact that I don't cut out anything.  I still have chocolate and crisps but I have greatly reduced my portions so I don't actually feel like I am on a restrictive diet.  By having little bits I don't crave and therefore don't binge and undo my good work.

I think and most cases support that the worst thing about diets and the main reason they fail is that they are too restrictive and cause bingeing and also that because you cut foods out on the diet, once you come off the diet and start eating them again the body stores them.  So by not restricting but simply using a daily allowance and limiting portions you should be able to kick the downfall and be successful long term.

Heres to my fourth month coming up!  May the weight keep shedding

Great advice lisajb74. Its just hard though, if I eat a little I'll just end up saying "a little more couldn't hurt" and end up eating way more than I should have.

Which comes to another problem. I sometimes eat so much my stomach aches. My body is saying its full, but my mind is yearning for more. I think I crave flavor, substance, or something to chew. Should I eat gum/hard candy to make the crave pass?

Weight Loss Is it possible to lose 10-12 lbs. in a about a month? May 17 2009

Thanks to all your advice. This is why I love CC.

And it sounds like I should aim to lose about only 1-2 lbs per week. Correct? Also, the place where Im going probably wont have a gym. But many people there, including my relatives there, love to play basketball. As do I, so perhaps I can get the cardio going while on my little holiday.

And when I get back I will get back to my diet and, hopefully, get to 135.

I probably have to agree with the OP. I lost about 20 lbs without counting calories, but ever since I started to, I gained back about 10. I would restrict food that I liked so I wouldn't go over the limit. But with that came an explosion wating to burst as soon as it got the chance. The first slip-up I had, I went berserk, and I couldnt stop my binging until recently.

Now, Im trying to lose those extra pounds, but have found it difficult to. Counting calories has become almost an obsession.

I dont know what to do anymore. My old method is difficult to do again because of this "obsession."

thnx gi-jane. That really made me think.

I remember when I first started out my diet i just wanted to lose 10 lbs, but ended up losing 20.

Maybe I lost too much weight? But now I need to burn this fat that I have accumulated over the last week. (My stomach looks bigger and rounder now.

I also eat cereal when I go off on my binges. And I mean a lot of cereal.

And Im like you too. I lost about 15 lbs but have gotten into my bad habits of binging. After like 5 bowls i feel like im going to burst.

What I found is to drink a lot of water, so after a bowl or two, you'll be filled up from milk.

I would look intho a psychologist if you think it is necessary.

For starters, don't eat for emotional reasons. Think about it before you eat. Are you hungry? Are you sad, mad, upset, etc. ?

Find something to occupy yourself when you feel that way. Read a book, exercise, call a friend, surf the Web.

i'll give it a try. But its gotten harder to keep my mind occupied. I mean its all I can think of most of the time now. I feel wierd to do so

Thanks for all the encouragement, support, help, advice, etc. And I admit, I binged today again *sigh*

But I have got to get back on the wagon as many of you have said. Just thinking about it though, its going to be really tough. I was supposed to have started again yesterday, but my body was still too full.

Hopefully by this week, I will start it up again. No, for sure I will start again.

So as you all have said, I will continue what I did before to lose these extra thousands calories. Its funny though, I lost all that weight before I even signed up for CC. And when I started calorie restricting, that was when I started binging.

BTW: Im a guy, sorry for the confusion

Thanks for that^^

and yea I played some basketball today for about 30 minutes to get myself used to exercising again, since I went a week w/o running at all. But my dad brought home Jack In the Box for dinner SMH.

Its a good I didnt eat that much in the morning or else I would have gone over my calorie limit.

Tomorrow I am "re-doing" my choice of living a healthy life, for real this time.

Also, should I restrict on my calotie intake? I had about (this is only a guess) 10,000 extra. I have an allowance of about 2100.

If I should restrict, how much should it be?

what a great way to express yourself

One day, I will...

  • be comfortable with my body
  • be the best I can be
  • stop fretting about the past

I promise myself I will never again...

  • Binge like a lunatic ; )
  • be so embarassed that I cant do what I want to do
  • let go of my dreams

I am somewhat embarrassed to admit...

  • that i have a big butt (IMO)
  • i eat when no ones looking
  • that its sometimes hard to talk to the opposite sex

OH NO! The past two days this week, I gave in and had twice as many calories (or more) on both days. I just don't know what to do anymore. I don't usually binge, and when I do its not usually of this magnitude.

Ive been doing research and found that I may be drinking less water than I should have. Makes sense, due to the fact I began to substitute my water for green tea.

But anyway, how can I get over this hump again? SHould I be worried that all my hard work is ruined? I know that 3500 extra calories leads to one pound gain.

So for real this time, Im going to start anew and keep up with my diet (Ive been on a week long break)

Thanks for the advice above^^. But can you guys suggest any activites that can burn the same amount of calories? I would burn about 800 calories in my 50 minute run on a treadmill (but I would hold on to the handles, so it could be less).

And if I did run outside instead, how fast and how long would I have to run to get the same, if not better, results?

yea i also remember back in elementary and part of middle school I would eat just about anything, anywhere, and how much.

Now I look at the Nutrition Facts because mt PE teacher instilled that habit in me. I thank her for that, but i its a bummer to not eat w/e u want.
