| Weight Loss | Nursing student willing to give advice and support! | Apr 03 2009 15:09 (UTC) |

This thread makes me not want to post here any longer either. I'm a new poster, and based this and a few other things I've read, seems like people are very quick to bash each other. I AM a clinical psychotherapist for over 20 years, and I will say it seems like the attacks are based on something other than whether the OP stated she was a student nurse. But I am not at all interested in trying to sort all that out. Not my problem She said that she had learned a lot in her class, not that she was a highly experienced or trained in these issues. She learned a lot in her nutrition class... Its not like see said she was the Surgeon General or anything... Why would posters not comment on the substance and quality of her advice instead of whether she should be giving it at all? Otherwise all posters need to be vetted before they share anything. Doubt that will be happening I won't post or look back at this thread because I am here to work on my self image, not get randomly attacked by people with issues. |

Good morning All! So glad for the successes today! That is soo exciting! For me, the scale has not budged for a week although I think I have lost inches(or at least fractions of inches) Sometimes, it all drops at once for me, so hopefully I will see a loss soon. I know my calories have been good, so I hope it is just a matter of time! Hope everyone has a great day! |

I am soooo gonna do this!! I really LOVE having lost this 10-12 pounds(goes back and forth due to fluctuations) and I can really feel it by my clothes, more definition in my legs and just feeling much more like my old self. I cannot wait to see what the next 10lb loss would look like!! |

There was a deli in my neighborhood that had them at one time. They were really really good fresh! Some of them were very prettily decorated. I liked them alot, but it was still easy to overdo since they were light and not that filling. Two of them could add up to 300 calories, which is a small meal, for no real nutritional content. They were a bit pricey too. Not sure why they stopped carrying them. |

Hi Everyone! I hope you are all off to a great start! I weigh in everyday, but maybe Friday is a good day to post? Its before the weekend, which is usually off days for some. But anything is fine. My diet(1500 cals target) is usually many small meals.Very heavy on cottage cheese. I do this weird thing with cottage cheese, splenda, cocoa powder, and then.... I dump a bit of diet sunkist soda on top of it and make it a bit soupy, like runny oatmeal. It has an chocolate orange flavor...sound weird I know! Usually once a day I add in a bunch of berries. I usually have cottage cheese for 2 small meals. For breakfast, I often have egg whites in a whole wheat low fat wrap. Then large salads with some grilled chicken and lots of veggies once or twice a day. Sweet potatoes and apples get added in along with a small whole wheat roll with my salads. I also eat bison meat in a whole wheat wrap from time to time. On bad days, a power bar or maybe even a bagel sneaks in. On really bad days, 3-5 glasses on white wine. Really working on my alcohol intake, its a tough one for me. I dont drink that often, but once a week or so, I drink enough to damage my progress. I wish I could stick to 2 glasses, but after 2, that third one seems like such a great idea!!! |

I have been a power lifter for years. Lifting heavier weight than many of the guys at my gym, doing very old school lifts and eating pretty much a bodybuilder diet(just way too much of it!) In the last three years, Ive gained about 20 lbs. My measurements are bigger, because I am carrying more weight in the form of fat. But, my legs actually look far far better than they did when I was 20lbs thinner because muscle looks really really awesome! I can only imagine how great they will look when I get rid of the extra fat and you can really see the muscle underneath |

I have had an off weekend! Buts its my birthday, so I just enjoyed my extra treats and, instead of cake, had a HUUUUUGE, like 1/2pound huge, vanilla dipped chocolate chip cookie last night!! We had dinner at an egyptian restaurant with belly dancing, so the food was great and it was sooo much fun! Now, I will try to balance it out this week with maybe a hundred calories less or so a day, but I wont go crazy over it. I really think counting calories has made ALL the difference and I like it when my average number is close to my goal intake. On the other hand, my 1500 calorie goal usually leaves me feeling perfectly well fed and not hungry, which is the important thing, so if cutting back this week leads to feeling deprived, I will eat all my 1500 each day. I say this because I know that lots of people try to starve themselves after a binge which only leads to more binging! (in the old days, I would try to fast for 3 days after which would never work and just lead to more massive eating) |

I would say that if eating anything raw or near rare troubles you at all, or causes you to not enjoy your food to any degree, then I would certainly say to cook it however you feel best. There is certainly no reason to be adventurous if it concerns you in the least. |

Original Post by pgeorgian: Ah, no, it's not blackened. I dont like that at all either. Black and blue is a cooking term for just barely seared on the outside. Not sure where the term originates though. I agree with you about the immunity. I dont get any of the illnesses my germ phobic friends do. I don't have allegeries to anything either. While being a bit careful is good, I am glad I have never been afraid of food.
Edit: I just looked up Black and Blue, also known as Pittsburgh rare, and I am wrong, it IS charred on the outside! I mean blue rare. I have just heard so many waiters use black and blue when I ask for barely cooked, that I thought that was the right term! :L |

| Foods | what would you eat in your dream world? | Mar 22 2009 12:48 (UTC) |

I would take a huge flat botton bowl: The first layer would be two inches of crushed pecan sandies and peanut butter cookies. On top of this would be about 4 inches of the purest vanilla ice cream with peanut M&Ms, chopped reeses peanut butter cups and chopped Butterfinger's well mixed in. On top of this would be a thick layer of the nuttest granola ever that had been soaked in sweet cream before adding. On top of this would be a drizzle of nuttela and fresh whipped cream. In addition, I would have a huge bread basket full of the heartest grained bread of all different types: 12 grain rolls, thick slices of rye, walnut rolls, seeded baquettes. There would be a cheese board of the most exotic french and italian cheese: primarily strong, hard and sharp kinds: parmaseans, blues, etc, but some creamy bries and sheep cheeses for variety. There would also be a huge spread of pates: liver, vegetable, fois gram, country pates with nuts. There would also be fresh churned butter and a bowl of dried figs and apricots along with fresh sliced pears and apples. I would alternate eating sweet and savory while drinking glass after glass of smoky red malbec and sparkling water. I would then slide into my size 6 Karl Lagerfeld gown and attend the premier of my new movie! Dream World! |

This site is famous! The creators are doing a book now. They write for a blog called Gawker. I love looking at food porn late at night. I think it helps satisify some need I have to eat like a pig without having to actually eat it. BTW, there are very few things on TIWYAF that I would not at least try a bite of! |

I can't speak for whether its the smartest thing to do, but I have eaten all my meat including hamburger, black and blue, which means barely cooked, still red as can be, for years and years. I've eaten at every kind of restaurant: great and not so great, clean and not so clean. Have eaten raw chopped steak (steak tartar) on a hot beach several times. Never gotten sick, knock on wood. But not once have I had a problem. I'm sure if I ever do get sick, my opinion will be much different, but I love rare to raw meat and have no hesitation eating it that way.

Hi everyone! Well, I am in the middle of my first period since starting counting. I had a 5lb gain, now it is back to where I started, only I have FOR ONCE been very solid about not binge eating during PMS, so I am hoping that I will see a bit of a drop in the next few days. It has been so long since I have gotten thru a cycle without eating a ton of food that I dont know what to expect. What is everyone's experience with that? There is nothing more frustrating than knowing I am eating below my calorie needs, working out, and not seeing a drop in weight!! My workouts are getting stronger again~which makes me really happy. I had a few injuries that needed to heal and so backing off of the heavy weights was required for a time, but I so missed it. I think these long limbs are more prone to injuries, so I have finally come to terms with the fact that stretching before working out is critical if I dont want to get hurt. I dont like the extra time I need to do it, but it seems to make all the difference. Anyway, this is a weekend of studying for me. My DB's moms birthday party is Sunday, which means Italian food and cake, wine, so I will have to work my calories carefully that day! |

| Weight Loss | what is YOUR most successful strategy to lose weight? | Mar 21 2009 13:23 (UTC) |

Counting calories, and spending them wisely, is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I have a daily goal, I try very hard to chose "A" foods, and eat small and often. I budget for treats, and try to think if they are really worth it before I have them Wine is my biggest weakness! But I try to allow for it rather than deprive myself. Exercise is also very important~but I have worked out daily, not counted calories, and still gained weight. Abs are built in the kitchen, I believe |

Ya know, I think everyone can get them, its just a genetic thing. I dont think it even matters if you have gained/lost weight. I think some people get them if they just have a big growth spurt when they are young. I saw the most lovely young girl at the gym the other day, in perfect shape who had them. I hate how the media jumps on every starlet who dares to show up at the beach with a slight tummy. It makes too many people overly critical of way they look I agree with all the comments about just feeling great about yourself:let your happiness at your achievements(all of them, not just weight loss) show through~and use a bit of fake tan! I swear by cocoa butter in pure oil form, btw. I think it is the reason my older skin looks pretty good in spite of years of yo yo dieting |

My body does this odd, I think, thing where I lose about 5 pounds about a week before my TOM just all of the sudden, of course, making me believe that I have dropped weight. Then, I gain about 8-10 lbs as my period starts, finally balancing out when it is all over. Pretty miserable, but to me, the worst part is the insane middle of the night craving to overeat anything I can find during my perios! I hate to think of the times I have gotten up in the middle of the night, dressed to run to the deli for some ice cream and cookies. Hate it! |

For me, its protein bars. I allow those darn things to convince me that its actually ok to eat them instead of a meal. They arent that filling and they are pretty much glorified candy bars as far as I can tell! |

Awk! Yes, in my experience, the boobs are the first to go! I think you see it in the face early on also. It seems to be a top down kind of thing! I think if anything, losing fast has a really bad effect on your skin tone and your general health. You dont want to look run down and have your hair start to fall out!~that has happened to me on crash diets: skin looks awful and dry, my hair started to come out, I wanted to lie down all the time, very very not pretty! Just stick with it and it will all even out. Cardio is great for slimming down the lower body too, so that will help. |

| Weight Loss | Why do I struggle with self esteem more now that I am at my goal weight? | Mar 15 2009 14:06 (UTC) |

Original Post by pemberly: I think this sums it up exactly for me. When I have been trying to lose, like I am now, I have this mindset that everything will be just perfect if only I was a certain weight. But, during the times in my life when I have been that "perfect" weight, I was shocked that the world didnt just stop and take notice of what a Wonder I had become! LOL I was definitely happy to be at my ideal weight, but I still had to go to work each day, the house still got messy and not everyone treated me like the Princess I thought I had become Maybe the critical thoughts you are experiencing are not so much about your body, but your process of trying to fit your new self into the same old world. I can totally relate to this. I have had this same issue again and again |

This calorie accountablity thing really works! Hi everyone! I'm an Amazon too~5'10" ~but just barely! I have been posting in another tall girl thread, but thought I would try to get to know some other people. I am ALMOST 47years old(two weeks, yikes) and live in NYC, single, no kids and shack up with my dear beau whom I adore. I have been here for 3 weeks this Monday and I am soooooo happy to say that I have gone from 180 to 170 in that time! Yah! My goal is 150. I am a rather serious amateur weightlifter(yea, I am into the Amazon thing for real! I have been struggling with these 30 lbs for a long time and its completely a matter of having been extremely dishonest with myself about the amount of calories I was consuming. I am staying at 1500 per day and have been doing well with that. I have had a treat meal every weekend. Wonderful neighboorhood restaurant last night:grilled sea bass with fennel, a great pear salad, ONE yummy roll, and some awesome berry and ice cream dessert, and three glasses of shirah What I have been doing is just having a hundred or so less calories the couple days after my treat meal to keep the overall total around 1500. Seems to be working! I have not seen 170 for a loooong time! Hope everyone has a great Sunday! |

That sounds like a little bully in the making. Here's an off the wall idea: wait until some school event when you, the little boy and his mother are together. Say to him in front of his mom with a real pouty face, " So Johnny, (your daughters name) told me that you think I'm fat!! My goodness, do you really think I'm fat???" Hopefully, his mom will settle it with him later! |
