To Go boxes are your best friend. cut the calories in half on any meal (and have a tasty lunch for the next day) Appetizers as the main course. Drink plenty of water. Split a meal. gooey stuff (dressings, sauces) on the side.

I use "orthotics" (SuperFeet) which helps keep my feet properly aligned and that helps with "outside knee pain". I wear a full knee brace as well but you might want to look into an IT band brace (they look like a wrist band for and wrap just below the knee giving support to the IT band that runs along the side of the leg).
