Weight Gain is this possible? now i'm underweight~ *_* Jun 09 2009

i actually am trying to get as much calories from fluid now, to meet my minimum intake to gain.. i drink milk twice a day, then some other cocoa hot mixes. and i think today i will drink more fluid than ever coz i'm very constipated, and drink dulcolax.

Weight Gain starting here! Jun 09 2009
00:29 (UTC)

i'm currently 41kg, stands 61inches.

i want to at least go for 43kg coz i really want to get my period back, it's been 3 or 4 months since i havent had it, i dont even remember when was the exact time i last had it. and my hair is falling in massive amount, i'm so anxious about this. i can clearly see that it's thinning.

anyway, yesterday, i tried to space out my meals evenly, and ended up at around 3700cals at the end of the day.. but what happened now is that, i feel constipated. is this normal? it's sad how i always feel constipated whenever i eat massive amount of calories even if it comes from less bulky foods.

i think what they mean about the body getting so confused is that, when we eat more than usual like around 3000+, we boost the metabolism that when we eat less the next day, since usually when i try to eat a lot i would somehow get so bloated the next day that i lose my appetite and eat less, around 1400-1800ish.. because of the amped metabolism, by eating less, and still on the same calorie burn level, it doesnt have any net gain? hmmnnn...

i'm not sure what i'm talking about. lol

i don't get it, what does it mean to be lightly active anyway? like just by moving around and not being a potato couch?

i have tried calculating my BMI when i was at 43kg in many different calculators for teens, and most of them tells me i was at a healthy weight. so i was satisfied with that and decided to maintain. now i'm even more confused about which or what calculator is reliable.

Foods Full fat food vs Low fat/Fat free food? Jun 05 2009

i personally don't rely much on foods that are low fat versions of full fat ones. i'd rather go natural on that, since i noticed that these low fat/fat free goodies are higher in sugar to make up for the lost fat (in terms of taste or something)..

but it depends on the kind of food though, for treats like chocolate or cookies etc i do opt for lower in fat but watching out for sugars too.. though on things like milk, cheeses, other dairies, even ice cream, i go for the regular. i've read somewhere that it is better to go for the original versions of the healthy things (even if it has higher fat that low fat versions) because our body recognizes it better thus we get better nutrition from it...

thank you so much gi-jane for the advice.

what really triggered me to overeat was the sticky rice cakes my brother bought, it was just darn delicious. i ate 3 of those, bfast, lunch and dinner. that was my primary source of carbs for each meal, but since it's very calorie dense (1 piece is around 500 cals) that added to a lot of my calories for the day. :(

one tablespoon of unsweetended cocoa (or the equivalent to 5 grams) contains only 12 calories, 2 grams of fiber and 1 gram of fat, and tons of anti-oxidants!!

cocoa in it's raw form is one of the healthy foods in the world.. it just gets a bad rep when it is combined with sugar and fat to make chocolate

I like to make my own healthy chocolate muffins using only zucchini, egg whites, wheat bran, stevia and cocoa Cool

oh cool. that sounds yummy! mmmm.. :D

how is cocoa dry powder made?

coz the cocoa rounds i ate is made as simple as this:

Roasted cacao beans are cleaned of skins that flake off during the roasting. As an extra measure, the beans are threshed using a shallow circular winnowing basket. The cleaned cacao beans go into a grinding machine. The process of grinding is repeated three times to achieve a smooth, liquid consistency. After letting the liquid substance cool for seven to eight hours, form them into bitter chocolate rounds.

and i completely understand what your going through, i live with 2 men aswell who will only eat a vegtable if it's the lettece in their big mac...and my house is just completely full of junk food because of them, and it's really easy for me to ending up eating it especially when i'm bored...and then i feel really guilty about it later...but anyways

i hope i can help you when you need it...

thank you.. :)

yesterday, i binged again, i ate a whole bag of corn chips, about 4 servings in a bag, plus 3 packs of saltine crackers, adn 3 tamarind candies in an hour. then i felt so terrible afterwards that i just started crying, and my dad saw me. he asked me what's wrong, and i told him that i'm starting to develop BED. then i showed him articles about it on the web. good thing he perfectly understood me. and he promised to support me from now on. i talked to my brother too, then he assured me won't bring all my trigger foods anymore. we'll try to be healthy altogether.

i'm just so glad i finally had the courage to share my struggle with my fam, this way it wouldnt be so hard anymore. u know to control my binging, since there will be people to watch out for me. :> :> :>

pixienaa...you won't gain from eating more on pilates days and less on cardio days because weight loss and gain isn't such a discrete process, you would essentially lose weight on the cardio days and gain on the others which would have the same effect as if you were eating more on the cardio days and less on the pilates days, so no net gain. today i am so snack-y...i just want to eat and eat and eat and i have no idea why. i can't control it though, i'm not even hungry...maybe boredom or stress.

oh i see. so i was right, it wouldnt matter as long as my average cals taken in a week is maintenance. thanks for clearing things up..

i just snacked on peanut brittle a while ago. nyay. sugar. that was my discretionary cals for the day.. about 200 cals (overestimating i think)..

what do u usually snack on??

i'd love to join you...what are your calorie goals and intake levels like? what were they before reaching your goal weight [while dieting]. what is your overall plan for maintenance? Chrissy :)

yay sure ;3 i came up with a new calorie intake plan just today.

here it is: 7 days total cals should be 10,000..

i will calorie shift everyday, but i should reach my goal of 10K at the end of the week. then i will try to exercise at least 4 days/week.

Only 1400 average? i was hoping i could maintain on around 1800-2000, maybe i'm being overly ambitious with that amount. if i gain a bit then i'll adjust but i think i'm going to stick to 2000 and then modify so my metabolism can be at an all time high!! we are maintaining, not losing. maybe you should eat a bit more and err on the side of a higher metabolism and make adjustments accordingly. i think it's worth the boost in metabolism and potentially the ability to eat more. however, if you don't think this is possible for you then that's understandable. btw, i am only 4'11, soon to be 21, in college, and i do pilates a few days a week and walk around campus quite a bit.

i'm still not sure if i can stick to the 10K cals plan though, i wouldnt punish myself if i go about a thousand or two overboard, as long as i space out my calories evenly, and not binge. that's what i'm trying to avoid, binging. i do eat around 1800-2200 some days. it depends on food availability. or my appetite.

it's just weird though, coz in days that i do cardio, i tend to eat fewer calories, like my appetite is supressed or something. and on days, i do strength or pilates or don't exercise at all, i eat a lot (appetite boost i think) and reach around 2000 cals.

if i continue to do this cycle, will i gain from it? i mean those days i don't exercise and eat 2000+ cals, so that means i didnt burn everything i ate.

Oh schooooool. Man, oh man. I'm not looking forward to my first day in college.

Thanks ha, napaalala tuloy.

You could take up a sport if you like exercising though. I used to play competitive badminton and take aikido and jiu-jitsu lessons (kind of why I never had a hard time with strength training for weight loss), and I still do regularly train for badminton. I see a lot of ads for private tutorials na mura lang, even prana/hatha yoga classes.

Why not try something like that? Or even swimming, since the summer heat kind of warrants something like that.

i might try swimming before school starts. my bro is a red cross volunteer, and at the same time, swimming instructor, so he might teach me. for crying out loud, i don't know how to swim even though that's my bro's job. others pay a lot of money for swimming lessons, pero ako na may libre didnt grab the opportunity. lol hydrophobic kasi ako. nyay. o.O

that's a great idea. i do get a hold of myself, by doing multiple things that makes me completely forget about food. since it's summer and i'm a homebuddy, i usually just sit infront of the comp, exercise for a couple of minutes, clean my room, or do something worthwhile.. but when i get bored with my daily routine, it triggers food cravings. so i guess i should always keep myself occupied? darn that could be hard considering how boring my life is right now. but this will not be long, since a month from now, school will resume again. good luck to me on food temptation in school and malls. o_O

Oh man, I love pigging out on pinakbet and kare-kareng gulay. I don't even mind that the stuff's crazy calorific because of the bagoong, but damn is that stuff good.

You know, it's your fitness goal so go about it however you wish, although I wouldn't advise wanting to lose more weight on your height (114 is the ideal weight for a 5-footer), so a huge helping of vegetables shouldn't be bothersome enough for you to worry that you're going to gain weight.

Although, I kinda find it insane that most underweight Filipinas are so conscious and want to lose a lot more weight and call normal servings a HUGE portion. IDK.

oh yahh.. are u Filipina too? yes it is really very delicioso and i keep wanting more :< fufufu

maybe because of all the influence fed to teens by media everyone seems to be conscious about staying thin and all that. and tbh i'm one of them. i have a big fear of gaining weight because i gain weight fast (blame the genes), so now that i'm at a weight i've been targeting on, i feel like i really have to maintain and not gain anything. though i struggle a lot. food food food everywhere. tempation here and there. oh noesss o.O

Same here. I've got a family history of lung disease, heart disease, breast cancer, thyroid conditions, diabetes, stroke, blood problems, asthma, obesity, and my family's eating habits are awful. Genes are not on our side, friend.

I'm just trying to stay fit because I love the feeling of being in tip top shape and looking great in clothes (boy, do I have a weakness for Topshop).

most definitely.. like now, i think i'm the only one who remained skinny among my cousins at 18. they have all gained weight. we have this curse in the fam, we are skinny during childhood but rapidly gains during puberty. i actually went to almost 50kg last Dec 2008. and they started teasing me that i'm becoming ONE of them na daw. tumataba na! that led me to start living a healthier life. :3

yay diet twins nga! Facebook meron ako.. meron ka? :>

I'm 18, 5-feet-five, 115lbs.

Your story sounds a lot like mine. I've got a family full of unhealthy eaters (myself included), and they buy a lot of the things I've since sworn off after losing 60 pounds and keeping it that way. They'll buy a gallon of Double Dutch ice cream and I swear when they're gone I take the whole thing and eat what's left of it. Which is, to say, probably a good 2/3 of the container. Because I hate the thought of having food that's nutritionally crap at home... so I eat it all up. Yesterday I got rid of 20 Chips Ahoy! Chewies, and the day before was the jar of lengua de gato. Oh, and sometime around the same week, eight large lemon poppyseed muffins. HUGE ONES. Like, Costco bulk pack huge.

They know I've had a binging problem since kingdome come (it came with the OCD), but all they ever tell me is "then don't eat it". Then they'll look for the food the next day, I'll tell them I've eaten it all, they'll tell me I've got problems and they're never buying that food again, but **** happens like a sad, sad cycle.

We're struggle twins! Amazing. Wanna help each other out?

Bonus points as we're both from the same country XD

yay. sure way :3.. let's be buddies then..

i think it's perfectionism that's keeping us binging again and again. we definitely don't want to ruin our perfect healthy day, and when temptation comes, we just want to get rid of it asap so we start anew the next day, which is a bad habit. dangggg...

how do we overcome such a huge problem of ours? any ideas?
coz it's really very very very hard for me to stop this cycle, coz my dumb brain is always thinking about food. how's that?

i don't think one slice is 50g. i don't have a scale so i just guesstimate. compared it to a 24g package, and it just weighs a little heavier, about 6-10grams heavier. and it's not dense or well packed but it has a thin crust..

and the thing is, i cant be satisfied with just one slice, bcoz it's not dense at all, like it's loosely packed.. whatever, i can't even express it in words. my english is bad. :P it very fluffy i'd say.

Hey, I am actually almost finished my 3rd year of my BSc in Nutrition!  Its really interesting and fun but the science classes are killer.  Anyone can do it if they take the time and effort!  What is your first semester like?  I'm thinking of doing my post bach in Dietetics but I hate the gov't regulations that dietitian's have to follow.  I am more into natural healing through diet & exercise and helping children learn that choosing right foods can be FUN!  I think my passion is in the children part.  If I can suggest anything, its to look for a part-time job or volunteer in the nutrition field so you can really get a feel for what interests you the most in this field!  I wish you all the best!  Good luck!

wow that's cool. i don't know the subjects yet, but i bet it more on biology, and food chemistry still. i'm kinda worried, coz chem is badass. my my.. but i'm hoping that my interest will make it easy for me.. gosh,.. i'm so excited. are the science classes really difficult? oh noessss.
