Sounds VERY helpful!  My S/O hasn't anything during my weight lose process.  I had a baby 8 months ago and I just got down to my prepregnancy weight and now he said I'm too skinny (the first thing he has said since I started losing).  I'm 5'7" 130.  What's funny to me is that before our daughter, we were both trying to lose 5-10 lbs and he was encouraging it.  So, I'm not sure why he is not supportive of my current weight.

Original Post by migueltrujillo:

The problem with a wok is that I cannot accurately count calories.

I may be able to weigh and estimate the calories of all the foods that I add to a wok, and thus have an idea about the total number of calories of all the food in the wok. But when I serve myself a plate, I do not have a good idea about calories per gram (cal/g).

Perhaps you are asking me to simply estimate the number of calories in a serving?

I am not sure how to do that.

I suppose I could guess based on the average calories per gram of all my ingredients. I might need an Excel spreadsheet for that.

Try not to make it so complex.  If you need to use a scale or measure things then do that.  But if you force yourself to do that, within a few weeks, you should pretty much know what 1 cup of vegtables looks like.  Perhaps weighing and measuing for a short time would be very beneficial to you in the long run.

I do not weigh or measure most things anymore.  Although on occasion I need to if it's something I'm not used to.

While any of the options listed do present more work, I think you will find that you are able to eat a lot more because there are less calories in the fresh stuff you cook yourself.

One thing you can do is make Sunday a night you cook together.  Pick a new meal each week and make some extra batches.  All those things you mentioned can be made in a healthy version and can be frozen.  If you make them in those disposable tins they are easy clean up as well.  For instance, enchiladas can be made MUCH healthier and you can assemble them, cook one batch for sunday night, and freeze a few extra batches.  Each Sunday, pick something else.  It will take some time for you to have variety in your freezer, but at least you know what you're eating and can control things such as fat and sodium.

Also, Try using a crock pot.  There are a ton of healthy things you can place in your crockpot, leave going all day, and it will be ready when you get home.  My crock pot saves me at least a few nights a week!

Sorry, this may not be the answer you were looking for, but it's how I do it a lot of the time with my family.

Pregnancy & Parenting Do you have a "hippie" name? Mar 03 2009

A friend of mine in high school had a hippie name.  Her first name was Araya, middle name Sunshine.  NO JOKE!  Anyway, the name really fit her.  She really was a ray of sunshine.  And people still ask her if her parents were hippies to which she replies, "they still are."  Name your child whatever sounds right to you.  It's a beautiful name by the way!  Congrats with the new baby!

Don't rely soley on BMI.  While it can give a good guideline, it doesn't factor in muscle mass, bone structure/density, etc.  If 145 seems too high, reevaluate when you get to that weight.  Maybe when you get to 145, see how practical it is for you to maintain.  If it still seems too high head down 5 at a time.  Remember, building muscle tone will help your weight stay in the healthy range, while still taking off inches.  So, as part of your weight lose, try to incorporate that in and see how it goes.

Also, some women are just built smaller.  While many supermodels are unhealthy, a lot of them still are generally built taller and very slender...naturally.  And it's very possible you fall into that category.

I have two children myself, and after each one my body has changed a little.  So, it's probably better to lose weight slowly and evaluate regularly.  Maybe ask someone close to you who can give you a honest opinion throughout this process.

Good luck!!!  Many Blessings!

I am a HUGE lasagna fan but I always have left over ricotta when I make it.  I use it to make chicken breast roll ups.  You can add different veggies and spices too and it's SUPER yummy!!!

Food network has some healthy stuff too.  Try recipes by Ellie Kreiger.  Her show is called Healthy Appetite.  Her stuff almost always tastes fresh and light.  You can try allrecipes.com too.  You can search by ingredients you want and even put in indredients you don't want.  And see what comes up!

GOOD LUCK!  AND ENJOY!

5'7" and currently 130.  I would like to lose 5 more pounds but 130 seems easier to maintain and more realistic.  I am a medium frame or the big end of a small frame.

csandridge:  That's funny!  I so understand the whole bikini thing!  I've been looking at swim suits.  In fact, I've bought 3 so far only to get them homw, try them on, and take them back.  It seems I think if I keep trying them on the stretch marks on my tummy will go away and my once perky boobs will somehow regain their fullness.  LOL!  My days of a size 2 were over when I graduated high school!  I try not to compare myself either, but it is pretty hard.  My boyfriend and I are going to Vegas this May for Dave Matthews.  I have dreams of laying by the pool in a bikini ordering drinks...but...we'll see how that all works out.  I'm not fat so it's not an issue of that.  But it seems like there's always that loose skin that just hangs there.  My babies are more than worth it!  I just wish with each baby came tighter skin and fuller breasts!  Hahaha!  It's always good to dream.

I def need to write working out in to my schedule.  My boyfriend is a federal officer and on the days he works he leaves at 4am and gets home at 8pm.  On top of me working full time.  Also, I moved to CA from OR a year and a half ago, so I'm still trying to build a network of friends.  It's not as easy as I thought it would be, especially with two kids.  I'm sure you can relate!

Hope your weekend was enjoyable!

Csandridge:  I enjoyed your post.  It's nice ot hear someone talking about enjoying their workouts even with 2 children.  I have a 3 year old SUPER energetic boy and a 7 month old girl who just started crawling.  While I have lost most of the baby weight, I find it difficult to find time to exercise or to even have the motivation to exercise.  How do you find the time and motivation?!?
