| Weight Gain | will this diet help me gain weight | Nov 15 2009 22:09 (UTC) |

You should definately check out the weight gainers meal plans for good high calorie meal plans. Your meal plan sounds pretty good - just remember to get your fats in there (nut butters and WHOLE eggs are good for that) and use supliments (like Ensures or Clif Bars, etc) when you need to. You may find yourself not being able to eat as many veggies cause theyre low cal and very filling... Are you trying to gain weight in general or muscle? (I'm only asking because you're BMI's mid-20s...) |

You said you don't eat many fats - I'd increase your fat intake (healthy fats mostly, of course) and we ladies need fats to produce estrogen and menstrate. As for the brown splotches, if you haven't had your period in a while, the brown is basically dried blood (tmi) that's now getting out. Basically, youre on the right track, but don't get too excited yet - it's spotting if it doesn't last more than three days and is very light. But congrats on your weight gain and congrats on your first step towards getting your period back!! : D xx |

Oh, man, I can totally relate! Do any of you have those people in your lives (usually older people...in my experience anyways) who say that you can have unlimited quantities of fruits and vegetables cause they have NO CALORIES? My friend's grandma eats atleast like 7 big apples a day and says "they're TOTALLY healthy, no calories!"...uhhh sugar overload, much? I also have those friends who don't eat ALL day, cause they're not hungry, but then they'll have a HUGE piece of cake or a HUGE muffin for lunch and three slices of pizza or a poutine and call it a "good day". Then make fun of ME for having 8 healthy snack a day (cause I'm trying to gain). *Eyeroll* |

| Weight Gain | Yet another period question--sorry! | Nov 03 2009 19:44 (UTC) |
|
Just an additional question here - iceblue's doctor suggested the bcp to "jump start" her period...has anyone had any luck with that method? I, too, am approaching my healthy goal weight, and I eat between 25-35% fat daily. I was just wondering if that might be a good way to go? |

Yeah I remember mentioning to my dad while we were in the room w/ the surgeon that I was gonna be wanting a LOT of icecream ..(pre ed :( ). And the surgeon was like NO there's too much sugar and you shouldnt get sugar in the wounds, plus you cant brush for a few days...etc etc. So idk... |

| Health & Support | question about night eating! | Oct 31 2009 18:08 (UTC) |

I am notorius for doing this. I restrict before dinner (usually 5pm ish), only getting up to around 1000 calories (for fear of what, I dont know). Then between 5 and 8 (i dont eat after 8...still scared of late night eating), I'm forced to consumed over 1000 calories. It's a really tough habit to break :( The onyl days it works out better for me is when I'm at school and work all day and I'm forced to pack my food. I usually pack about 6-7 smaller meals/snacks and spread them out throughout the day. It's literally the ONLY time it all balances out for me. As for late night snacks - I know you can't have very high fat foods, but how about nuts/nut butters? I find myself consuming almond butter by the cupful somedays, just to get my calories up. Best of luck xx |

Ugh I have this. It's wierd - throughout upping and gaining, I had preeeetty minimal belly bloating. Then just two or so weeks ago, I bumped up my calories another 100 cause my gaining was slowing down and my stomach POPPED out like nothing! It's not going away, either :( I'm trying the peppermint tea and green tea business but it's not working :( I can't wait till I'm FULLY healthy and it just effing goes away!!! :D |

Aw hun I totally know that feeling. People who have no ED experience just dont understand how the phrasing of their thoughts can totally affect the effect they have on us. I remember after one relapse when I got back on gaining, I had mentioned to one friend/coworker that I needed to gain about 20 lbs (at that point...also I brought up ED to only a handful of people in my life). She said something along the lines of "I think that's too much - that would just make you fat". I think it's also hard for otehr people to imagine what 20 or however many pounds would look on someone with a BMI of 16. They think of gaining that much weight on their already larger frame (in my friend's case), they flip. Oh, and another one that bugs me - "Just go eat a cheeseburger!" - AS IF IT'S THAT EASY!!! *eyeroll |

I try not to look at the little numbers anymore (during ED I'd freak if I ate more than 2g), but I looked at some of my recent food logs and I rarely exceed 10/11g a day...(I eat lots of nuts/nut butters and fish).Sorry to kinda hijack this thread but should I be eating more sat fats than this in my recovery?? |

Haha, I'm not a rap fan, either. Here's some of my faves: Beautiful - Christina Aguilera You're So Damn Hot - OkGo Hey Beautiful - The Solids The Youth - MGMT Parachutes - Jenn Grant True Believer - Dragonette Fill My Eyes - Cat Stevens Be Ok - Ingrid Michaelson Honestly, some of them are just songs I like/make me happy. Others actually have inspiring lyrics/melodies : ) |

I've been making my own Larabars for a while now. I have a pretty detailed recipe on my blog (can access it from my CC profile). They taste pretty well EXACTLY the same, and have the same nutritional info. Haven't attempted Jocalat bars yet...I've stopped seeing them in health food stores in my area actually (Toronto), but I just found PB&J Larabar at Superstore a few days ago!!! And I LOVE Stonemill bread! We get the Omega-3 enriched one from Costco - two huge loaves for one low price. Loveeeee <3 |

Omg I love PC's Blue Menu items! I'm not on a low-cal diet but I love their healthy options! And I can buy them regularly now cause they sell them at Real Canadian Superstore, as opposed to Loblaws/Metro which is REDICULOUSLY overpriced. Irresistables Original Flavour Soy Beverage (sold by Food Basics and I think Metro) is amazing...it tastes perfectly creamy and vanilla-y : ) |

Like the others, I can totally relate to you! I'm recovering from ED and actively gaining and from day-to-day, I'll manage to have complete 180's in how i feel about myself. One day I'll be happy and content and totally feeling great and just the next day I'll be literally thiiiis close to relapsing. Something I've found helps me is surrounding myself with really positive, confident people. My former group of friends were all very skinny, kinda bitchy (love em, but you know how it is...) girls always complaining and moaning about their bodies. Making jokes about EDs, etc. As hard as it was, I've stopped hanging with (most of) them and my new group of really close friends are really supportive, confident, amazing people. Another thing I do is when I'm really down I have a playlist on my iPod with "inspiring" songs. You can bet Christina Aguilera's Beautiful is on there : ) Good luck and take caree xxxx |

I was actually going to post a topic similar to this so I thought I'd just ask my question here : P ... If you've not been having your period for a while (in my case, not regular since Feb), but OCCATIONALLY spot, does this mean you cannot concieve? In other words, not need to you conception? (I know youd still need them against STDs...I'm just asking hypothetically). And one other question - I thought the pill was supposed to be a contraceptive device - how can you get pregnant on it? (Sorry if any of that made me sound ignorant - I never had sex ed haha : P) |

I live for Clif Bars. I like em cause they give you the calories (usually ~250 per bar), they have the fat (~6g) AND they have the protein (my peanut butter one has ~12g). And we're not even talking about the body builders one... You'll also likely hear lots about Larabars as well, but I find they don't give me nearly as much bang for my buck (they are quite expensive). Thought they are very tasty... but the plus of Larabars is that they're easy to make yourself!

Thurs I was eating out with the fam and having sushi and I decided to slather my sushi with soy sauce. I'd been majorrrrrly afraid of soy sauce and guess what - NOTHING BAD HAPPENED. (Kay I know that seems kinda lame but I ws really proud of myself cause I was/am really scared of sodium!!!!) As if that's not enough Fri I decided I was feeling a little hungry between meals so I walked over to the variety store with a friend and bought a whole, unhealthy chocolate bar, just cause I wanted it! : ) |

This is such a great idea! As a Canadian girl, I haven't had "poutine" in I don't even know how long. Poutine's basically french fries, gravy and cheese curds. Uh, yeah. The least healthy of all unhealthy foods. And seeing as I'm uber healthy these days, not to mention ED's huge fear of fat and sodium, I haven't even planned on having one of these in ages. Might just split one sometime soon! :D |

Original Post by rebelchick1017: I think it's really troubling that your family members told you that. The thing is, I've gotten comments like that from friends but remember, people who aren't gaining don't have any perception of weight and how weight will look added on. They hear "..gained 10-15 pounds" and shudder in horror. Remember that it's completely different the way youre doing it (healthy and steady) vs the way most people gain (McFlurrys and McNuggets). I'd say do what youre most comfortable with and what you feel will help you sustain in the long run. I'm the same height as you and my goal at the moment is 120. I think that's like, the bare minimum. Good luck and much love. x |
