| Weight Loss | Has anyone tried The Complete Scarsdale Medical Diet ??? | May 14 2009 23:51 (UTC) |
4 |
My father has had great success with the diet. He has lost tremendous amounts of weight each time he followed the diet. The only problem I see witht he diet is that it doesn't teach you how to eat for life. My father has ended up gaining weight every time he reached his goal on Scarsdale because eventually he would go bak to his old eating ways. Good luck with the diet, I know it's a tough one but it does work! Just remember to maintain your weight loss and don't go crazy like my dad use to :) |

Talk to your OBGYN about switching. I too gained weight on Nuvaring and I switched to Yaz. I haven't gained any weight on Yaz but everyone's body is different so you may need to try a few BC before you know which one is best for you. Usually your doctor can give you samples before a prescription so take advantage of that and try another form. Good luck! |

Thanks so much for advice cs17 - I am def going to incorporate weights now and I like your idea of pumpkin puree. You are eating allot more than me but because it's so much lower in cals I'm sure you are starving after you've ate your 1200 for the day like I do. I really appreciate your input! Thanks again and congrats on your 15 pound weight loss!!! |

Ok - here is an example of yesterday's food log: Breakfast Vivano 260 Double Fiber A 38 70 Smart Balance 37% Light Buttery Spread B 14 45 Lunch Santorini chicken breast 157 Tzatziki - Sauce 77 Mozzarella, Part Skim Milk Cheese A- 14 36 Pita Bread - 8" White or Whole Wheat B- 14 40 Mission Spinach Tortilla 155 Rice Pilaf Mix D+ 28 95 Snacks Fiberful A 20 60 TJ's Righteous Rounds A 11 52 Dried Apples - Dried Fruit B 40 100 Mini Babybel Light Original - Mini Babybel A- 21 50 I thought I was eating ok - typically my day starts with double fiber wheat toast and a chocolate banana protein shake. During the day I try to eat some protein and whole grains and I usually skip dinner and opt to eat some cheese and fruit throughout the night. As for my calorie intake CC suggests that I eat 1200 a day to lose. When I work out I'll eat more but when I don't I eat 1200 give or take. I realize I'm not at a plateau like most people experience - I'm just frustrated that I feel I'm eating right and not too much and I haven't lost anything. Please feel free to critique my diet if you feel there are areas to improve. As for working out - I usually do 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week. I'm diligent about making sure I workout 5 days a week - usually with Fridays and Sundays off. |

Mike has a big heart - when he gave the groceries for a year to Aubrey - that was sweet. But he was a little too smug last night and it irritated me. Tara was my favorite from the beginning but the sometimes she just seems like a total b*&%$... I loved Bob's comment last night about the lettuce cups and ice - I nearly spit out my water when I heard that! All in all the show is inspiring to me and I love watching all of them achieve success but it just irked me the way Kristen went home - although seeing her at the end was awesome because she looked SO GOOD! So hopefully she will win the at home competition. Felipe strikes me as a total joker. I don't know why but I just really like him. |

| Weight Loss | *gasp* Gastric Bypass?! | Apr 14 2009 03:45 (UTC) |
15 |
I know how you feel. My sister had gastric bypass after it took me a year to drop 100 pounds. But what you have to realize is that gastric bypass is the last resort, not only is it a surgery but there are allot of negative side effects. My sister has lost sooooo much hair and has very loose skin from her drastic weight loss. She literally has a bag full of bottles of supplements she needs to take every day because her body cannot absorb nutrients like you and I, and while she was able to drop allot of weight from the surgery she hasn't learned to eat better which is a whole other story. But the long of the short is that people who have had the surgery and don't change their eating habits and start exercising, the weight is gonna come back. People who have had the surgery have stretched their stomachs out again and gained all their weight back because they havn't changed the way they eat/live. You are losing weight the best way, and while it may not be as fast it is better. Not only are you losing weight, but your helping your body perform better and become more efficient! The slower your weight comes off the better because it will stay off if you maintain your new healthier lifestyle. You lost 15 pounds in a month!!!!! That is amazing - keep up with it!!!! When I lost over a hundred pounds I never lost 15 in a month so kudos to you :) |

| Weight Loss | What are they feeding their kids? | Apr 10 2009 05:00 (UTC) |

This feels like the perfect place to vent my own frustrations. Growing up my sister and I were very heavy. By the time we were each in Jr. High we both weighed over 200 pounds and when I was in high school I weighed around 250. Both my parents were over weight as well but they really tried to teach us to eat healthy, however at lunch time I'd take whatever money I had and get junk food. At my heaviest I tipped the scales at 271. In 2004 both my parents were diagnosed with diabetes and this scared me enough to to start getting the weight off. In one year I was able to drop 110 pounds and my sister and parents were very proud but I still wasn't able to inspire my sister to lose along with me. In 2005 my sister was diagnosed with diabetes and she had reached almost 300 pounds. Instead of trying to lose weight she sought out a doctor that would approve her for gastric bypass surgery. She had the surgery and has since lost 90 pounds in 1 and a half years but her eating habits have not changed. She still eats awful, high calorie and high fat foods. But I have resided to the fact that I cannot help someone who is not willing to take my help. But what has really got me is that she allows my 5 year old nephew to eat the same crap food. Knowing how it was growing up as the fat kid you would think she wouldn't want the same childhood for her son along with the health problems and risks that will be a part of his future. Every time he hears the ice cream man she'll give him money for an ice cream sandwich that he'll eat before dinner and then he doesn't want to eat the nutritious dinner my parents will prepare. My brother in law will buy him a cheeseburger and fries from hamburger joints and not the kids meal size - ADULT portions. He eats donuts for breakfasts, a hot dog for a snack after school, and the list goes on. It breaks my heart not only to see him as a chubby 5 year old but to know what his future is going to be. My sister is very sensitive so after I mentioned something one time to her she was very offended and I haven't brought it up again. I hate seeing it in my nephew and other overweight young children, it really breaks my heart to know their fate. |

Robin Quivers from the Howard Stern Show did this and has really adapted the vegan lifestyle after. Becuase of that she has lost and maintained over 65 pounds. Hearing her talking about it I tried it for my high school reunion. It was pretty hard though for me because I LOVE food but I did drop 18 pounds in one month of doing this (I cheated a little) After the reunion I went back to eating less calories and working out but did gain back 8 of the 18 pounds. However, I have since lost those 8 pounds plus some so as long as you get back on track and expect the "after detox gain" you'll be fine. There are other detox diets out there though, I would suggest reading some of the detox threads in cc and researching online which ones you think you'd be able to stick to best. Best of luck to you :) |

| Weight Loss | How can drinking green tea help your diet? | Mar 29 2009 07:03 (UTC) |
13 |
Drinking green tea alone will not make you lose weight. But with a low cal diet and exercise it does help. Real green tea (not liptons or other brands such as) has antioxidants which help your skin look better and glow. Also green tea does help slightly speed up your metabolism naturally - but it's not a miracle - it's just a good weight loss aid. 0 calories, tastes great, helps with skin, and aids your metabolism. I'm sure there are other benefits of it as well :) |

Get your hair done!!! Hit the gym harder and try drinking allot of tea and eat antioxidant rich foods. These are really good ways to make your skin better and glow naturally. If you want to shrink down quicker try doing a detox diet before the event - just know that when you detox you'll drop some weight but it will probably come back...and while detoxing your breath will probably smell - so chew gum!!! |

| Foods | Help! I LOVE white flour sourdough baguettes! | Mar 29 2009 03:10 (UTC) |

Is there a Trader Joe's near you? If so they have WONDERFUL cracked wheat sourdough baguettes. I kid you not - there is no taste difference between them and regular white flour ones and the calories are less - not a whole lot less but at least you can feel better about eating them vs white flour sourdough baguettes :) |

| Weight Loss | Calories from fat make you fat? | Mar 20 2009 02:58 (UTC) |
2 |
I think I learned this in Health Class in high school...can't remember where but I use it as a rule of thumb for making healthier choices when eating. Healthier food will have no more than one third of the total calories. I don't live by that rule because every once in a while I'll splurge but it definitely has made me rethink some choices. |

| Weight Loss | What's your biggest fluctuation in weight? | Mar 19 2009 03:28 (UTC) |

I too gained 1 pound today (up from yesterday) and after reading these posts I went back and looked at the labels of some of the food I ate yesterday and was floored by the amount of sodium. So I'll be sure to be more sodium conscious in the future. By the way - anyone who's gained weight from too much sodium intake - when did you see your weight go back down? |
