Motivation I always think I'm done with binge eating but i never am :( help Nov 20 2009

Original Post by gi-jane:

I think you should talk to your doctor about the chronic fatigue.  And there are two other areas you should look at.

First.... 2000 cals a day.  If you're still 5'3", 122lbs and doing a lot of physical exercise it's almost certainly not enough.  Maybe if you added an extra 500 calories you'd find that you weren't so fatigued and you didn't end up overeating as a result.

Second..... What is the nutrition like from your food?   Specifically things like  iron, B vitamins and so forth.   I note from another post that you eat a lot of protein powder.... that stuff isn't very nutritious even if it's high in protein.  Even a mild shortage of key vitamins can lead to fatigue.  Run your food choices through the CC analysis and see if you're getting your full requirement of key nutrients.  If not, take steps to address it, get more of your calories from 'real food' and also consider a daily multivitamin as a short-term stop gap.

 Thanks for the response.

I already saw a doc for the fatigue and the conclusion was that I suffer from severe anxiety and depression. I was put on stress leave for about 3 weeks then I decided to go back to work because I couldn't stand the fact that everyone was talking about me and complaining that they were short staff and a certain someone was mad at the fact that what I was going through was personal. Anyway, I was seeing a psychotherapist for about 2 months and recently stopped going because I didn't feel like she was helping me much.

I used to work out 5 days a week but now I barely manage 1 or 2 days because I'm so sleepy and exhausted. 2500 cals would be way too much for someone who barely works out. That's way over my maintenance.

I had a blood test done and I don't have any vitamins deficiencies except for mild anemia (which I take iron supplements for). My diet includes whole grains, beans and legumes, fruits, vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats (one my non-binge days of course....). I did increase my protein powder intake recently because my trainer recently put me on a new eating plan which was made to suit my goals (tone/build muscle...basically have a lean fit body). I also do take a multivitamin at the moment as well.

Hope this makes it a little more clear for you and everyone else to understand where I'm coming from...

Thanks again for your suggestions

The whole point of circuit training is to combine cardio and resistance training all in one. Since you are constantly shifting from exercise to exercise with no rest, and only taking a minute break in between circuits, your HR will be elevated the whole time. This takes away the need to do regular cardio. Now if you wanted to challenge yourself, you could try to do some form of HIIT after you were done. However, that is only if you are up to it.

I am a stay at home mom so I don't have that problem.  But my good friend did, she was dieting but wanting to still eat healthy with NO TIME!  What she did she would make meals on the weekend and portion size it for herself and then labeled and froze everything... so it was like microwave dinners made from her...  I thought it was clever!

Wow, this is a great idea!

Typical quick breakfasts for me are :

2 slices whole wheat toasts (138)

1 T peanut butter (94)

1C grapefruit juice (96) OR 1 banana (90 cal)... often mooshed between  the peanut butter toast as i run out the door.

OR

2 boiled eggs (140)

2 slices of whole wheat toast (138)

fruit of some sort (70-90 cal)

OR

6 oz. non fat vanilla yogurt

1/3 cup musli

1/3 cup dry cranberries, or raisins..

all mixed up.... creamy, and crunch and sweet... yum yum...

OR

1 C cooked oatmeal with 1/2 C non fat vanilla yogurt and some sort of fruit.

I find its vital I NOT skimp on protien in the morning or i'm hungery by 10 am, yogurt, peanut butter or eggs is a MUST

second... I'm tiny... I need only 1250 calories a day around here... I can't imagine Calorie Count giving anyone a smaller number than that.. so... why are you shooting for 300 calorie meals?

Even little 5 foot tall me is really aiming for 400.

I'm shooting for 300 calorie meals because I'm having 6 mini meals a day, 3 300 cal meals and 3 200 cal snacks which makes a total of 1500 calories a day. I may even and 100-200 calories on my intense workout days. This way my metabolism is running all day and I am not hungry because I can eat all the time! :)

I'm going to try that out anoxa. I find that I am too hungry between lunch and my kickboxing class with only a snack. I also find it too late to eat a complete meal so late after the class. I'll try having a snack around 3 p.m. and maybe supper around 5 p.m. Thank you! :)

Weight Loss Too many cals/ day if I add a protein shake post workout!! Apr 16 2009

I've been trying to tone and build muscle and my trainer suggested that I have a whey protein shake everyday because it is the best way to feed your muscles post-workout and it will aid in building muscle. Will it be just as effective if I eat food instead?

Weight Loss Can you replace a cheat day with 3 cheat meals? Apr 08 2009
01:58 (UTC)

This is what I heard too, floggingsully. I eat clean most of the time and work out really hard. This must be why I'm still seeing results. I just wasn't sure if it mattered whether I had a cheat day vs cheat meals on several days. I think I have my answer now...as long as I work out consistently and eat well 90 or even 80 % of the time, it doesn't really matter how I spread out my cheat meals.

I definitely won't cut it short...that's for sure! BUT i like joyhorvath's idea of getting a curve at the bottom, that's a great solution for now! And I guess it'll thicken as it grows out slowly. Thanks!! :)

Thanks everyone. How long do you think it'll take for my hair to get its thickness back? Actually, how much does hair grow every month? Anything I can do to accelerate this?

Thanks. I don't know what it is, I asked for the same thing as usual. It always turns out really nice so I don't understand..and my hair works well with almost any haircut because of its texture (straight and fairly thick). The haircut I have now is not bad or ugly, its just not what I wanted. Like I said it took me forever to grow my ends out of that v and into a nice thick, more blunt cut...which I have to do all over again. Oh well :(

Thanks! I'm so confused. The reason why I started eating 1400 cals a day is because a trainer that works at Popeyes told me I should be eating 1200 calories a day to see a difference...it seemed a little low to me so I decided to up it to 1400. Others have told me I should be eating 1800 and others say 1500. Omg how do I know what's right!! Anyway at least I know I've been undereating now!

Thanks everyone. I have already lost most of my weight (at most I would like to lose 4 lbs to get down to 115, but if I don't I'm happy at my current weight). I'm much more worried about gaining weight than not losing anymore. Anyway, I've been eating about 1400 calories...is this too little? How much should I increase my intake by? Can I still have a cheat day if I increase my daily calories? Right now, I would really like to look toned and build muscle. What suggestions do you have for me? Thanks again!!

Fitness How many exercises should I do for ea body part? Mar 19 2009
13:06 (UTC)
Original Post by floggingsully:

Stop working out 'body-parts' your body isn't just a bunch of random 'parts' thrown together.  We spend millions of years evolving the ability for many muscles to work together to accomplish a movement.

Your body doesn't understand 'body-parts' it understands movements, so train movements (push, pull, squat, deadlift, lunge) instead of bodyparts. One exercise per movement is plenty for most people.

Maybe I didn't explain correctly. I understand what you mean about the body not being a bunch of parts thrown together. I actually do train movements (various exercises that consist of a push and a pull for ex. chest and biceps) and try to perform compoud exercises as much as possible. I'm just not sure how many ''movements'' to train each workout. I only said body parts because technically we are training a part of the body or parts of the body during a workout, and I believe it is easier for people to understand what I mean when I put it this way. Anyway, thanks for the advice, I now know that one exercise is enough for each movement.

I usually have a whey protein shake after my workout. I try to inlcude protein in every one of my meals (I usually have 5 or 6 mini meals a day). I'll try the CLA pills. They might give me the extra help that I need.

Sorry carmenxox, I meant three 300 calorie meals and three 150 calorie snacks, for a total of approximately 1300-1350 calories per day. I think I might try two 200 calorie snacks though, like you suggested. Thanks for all the great ideas everyone.
