I LOVE this site:  http://www.fatcalories.com/

It has pulled all the calorie/fat counts from all the major fast food chains and put them in a handy search engine where you can sort by total cal, fat cals, carbs, cholesterol, etc.

So you can check off you favorite chains, and make informed decisions from there.

nice link, thanks! beats checking them all individually

ec- you need to open your mind.  I've encountered more racists in the north than I have in the south.  That has been my experience, but I can't say that people generally are more racist in the north since I haven't met them all.  You're perpetuating a stereotype that no longer has any basis in fact.

No basis in fact?  How do you figure?  I challenge you to count confederate flags in the south versus where I live.  K?  I CAN say that GENERALLY people are more racist in the South because GENERALLY doesn't mean ALL.  See how that works?

I'm quite a laid back person, and generally never see people as ********? whatever.

I just see a person, unless of course the person really stands out for some reason then yes I am human and will notice...

When I say standout I mean by the way they are behaving, or how they are dressed.

I am not from the area within which I live at the moment *what a relief* I have been disgusted by the all too common comments I hear locals making about others....supposedly they are just joking! I don't find it funny at all and for that reason I am the one who is stuck up, no sense of humour or think I'm better than them....

Where I do come from the sense of humour is to laugh at life, situations etc but not at the person...

Here their sense of humour is to mock people....

I have heard them make racist jokes

Mock peoples disability

Mock people because of their weight

Mock people because of their sexual orientation

I have been called Glasgow scum!

Heard a very well educated man in a high position say when listening to the news and there was a signer at the side of the screen * those spastics should have their own channel I shouldn't have to be subjected to that*! He no longer has my respect...

I am sick of these people they are ugly, and you know what yes i am better than them because i don't think mocking a person is funny by any stretch of the imagination....

Yes I know I am judging these people on their comments and supposed humour but quite frankly it does warrant it and when I hear this crap nearly every day it weighs on me....

Yup -- this is exactly why I won't live in the south.  (US).  Ignorance there knows no bounds -- even from the educated.  Unacceptable, if you ask me.

Does any of your food contain High Fructose Corn Syrup? It contains mercury.

Have old metal fillings? Yep, mercury there too.

The list just starts there. Why add more poison to your food?

Here are some of the neurological symptoms of mercury poisoning:

  • irritability
  • anxiety/nervousness, often with difficulty in breathing
  • restlessness
  • exaggerated response to stimulation
  • fearfulness
  • emotional instability: -lack of self control; -fits of anger, with violent, irrational behavior
  • loss of self confidence
  • indecision
  • shyness or timidity, being easily embarrassed
  • loss of memory
  • inability to concentrate
  • lethargy/drowsiness
  • insomnia
  • mental depression, despondency
  • withdrawal
  • suicidal tendencies
  • manic depression
  • That's just the start. If you eat a lot of tuna, you really should google the effects and symptoms of mercury poisoning.

food made me get fat, not the pill.  being pregnant made me get fat, not the pill.

I think a daily pill is the best bet to start with because if you find you're having side effects you aren't happy with, it's quick and easy to stop taking it and let your body go back to normal.  If you try depo and it sucks you've got to wait much longer for it to get out of your system.

Millions of people DO have diabetes. 23.6 million (children and adults) in the US, according to the American Diabetes Association. What we eat is a HUGE contributing factor to diabetes.

There ARE varying forms of GD. Mild forms are treated with a controlled diet and exercise while severe forms are treated with insulin injections and close monitoring of blood sugar levels.

GD is a placental and pancreatic problem, not liver. Normally, the placenta produces hormones that keep too much glucose from crossing the placenta. In GD, the placenta either doesn't produce these hormones or produces too little. The pancrease can't produce enough insulin to control the glucose levels.

All the information is on the American Diabetes Association's website:

    http://www.diabetes.org/gestational-diabetes. jsp

    http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp

Edited to correct a factoid :)

Thanks. I didn't have the energy to make this argument so well.  I guess my mythical mild case of gestational diabetes messed up my brains.

I had GD mildly when I was pregnant and all I craved was sweets, too.  I didn't have to do insulin, just monitored my diet.  I would say YES, you have gestational diabetes.  Don't stress about it too much, like wondering why you have it and have no family history or risk factors or anything.  I was heartbroken because I'm healthy and so is my family.  Sometimes it just happens.  Watch your diet, it'll be ok.

okay so im a recovering anorexic at the moment and im doing so good.  ive bumped my calorie intake to 2500 and up...normally over 3000 per day and ive gained about 6 pounds so far and im so much happier with the way i look and i love food again!!

but for some reason my mom this past week has been on my case like wayyy to much and i know shes trying to help but shes making it worse!!! i mean i know wat im comfortable eating and when i need to push for more and i know that i dont want a relapse or purge so im being careful not too at too little or well too much that itll make me upset and ill do something stupid to ake up for it.  but since i didnt gain last week my mom keeps making me add more to my already 500 cal snack with dinner just 2 hours away and stuff like that and i just had dinner and i cracked

she commented on me not having enough dressing....note that my lettuce was already DRENCHED in my thousand island dressing and i still had a cup of applesauce, cup 1/2 of milk, HUGE serving of eggplant parmesan and bread roll with butter to eat!! i got so pissed and flipped on her and i got so upset and refused to finish eating until she left me alone.  She left, i ate my food, got up and came onto the computer.  then she comes and yells at me how she doesnt think im eating and how im acting like i was when i was really bad with my ed.  Im like crying right now because she seriously thinks im not eating and i AM eating...at least 3000 calories and i dont know its just really hard and sorry but i needed to write out my feelings cuse im just really upset right now and she makes me NOT want to eat but i know i have to.  I just need support is all and i need to stop crying over this.....i was doing good and my own mother just set me back so much

But you ate.  Crying here and there is a good release for feelings.  You weren't set back - you just chose a different way to cope.  Instead of NOT eating, you cried it out and typed it out and THAT is a purge of it's own.

    You're winning this.

Have you seen a lunge?  Maybe we are talking about a different kind of lunge, but the one I am talking about looks like a runner/crescent pose in yoga.  By definition, with the back leg extended out and the toe down, the knee has to be beyond the toe.

We're definitely talking about the same kind of lunge, and yes by definition the back knee has to go beyond the toe.  But that doesn't answer my question as to why it's ok for the back knee to go beyond the toe and not the front knee.  What's different about the front knee that make it unsafe for it to go beyond the toe/ankle/whatever while the back knee can do so safely?

The difference is that the front knee is bearing nearly all of your weight instead of sharing it with your other knee as it normally would.  The back knee is extended out and really that leg is just for balance at that point.

As Summer has said, not every anorexic is a "skeleton" and it is a terrible stigma like that that is usually a large contributor to why people think they're "not so bad" if they're not suffering and skeletal. Which is totally untrue. It's also a poor impression to say that just because she is underweight means she is starving herself but that has been addressed and you recognise it so I will not push on that again.

Like Summer has said also it is good to build muscle when weight gaining but only when weight is in a healthy range again and if she truly has "wrists like your thumb" then healthy range is not where she is at. Do not be afraid; speak to your instructor. Be discreet and do not do it in front of everything else. I do also like the idea of approaching her and befriending her.

We had a similar situation in my college gym with a woman clearly vastly underweight, only the issue was a touch more obvious: she was using only the cardio machines for an hour or so at a time. I eventually raised it with the ladies on the desk and they looked at me quite sadly and said, "We know about it, but unfortunately, we can't legally do anything about it as she has paid for her membership in full". I don't know if they were BSing or not but either outcome, it was tragic to watch.

I think it sounds like BS.  Paying for the privilege of using a facility only gives her a 'license' which is legally revocable by the party who granted it.  In the US, anyway.....

I just have a hard time drinking anything so it really isn't just water for me.  I make myself drink 6 or more bottles a day plus my 16 ounces of green tea each morning and my quart of milk.  On days I work, I usually get 10 bottles of water, but I still hate it.

You are absurd.  Bottled water IS tap water.  If you filter your water it's better than bottled.

Don't sweat it ...or actually, DO sweat it!  Do a little extra excersize to sweat out that sodium overload.  You'll feel SO much better about over eating.

I actually used to have pizza binge night every other Friday.  My bf at the time was nuts about food (ugh so THAT'S what my trigger was....) so we would hard core diet for two weeks then EACH , yes EACH get a large Domino's thincrust to ourselves.  Granted, it's not as bad as a regular, but once the pizzas were gone, we moved onto Friendly's ice cream sundaes.

good times.  Once I get back down to my goal weight, I fully intend to implement pizza binge night back into rotation.

Seems to me that Music Therapy, in this economy, would be the nail in the coffin of your hopes of an even barely lucrative career.  I don't know what's going on in Canada, but in the US all we're hearing about is schools cutting programs left and right, including limiting library hours because they can't afford to staff it.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's an admirable choice, but not exactly recession-proof.   If you've got a background in engineering, the places to look into are those working in sustainable/renewable energy resources.

3-4 interviews is a drop in the bucket.  I'd say you shouldn't consider yourself unsuccessful until you've gotten like 20 rejections.
