on the bless you note, I think that it is a combintation of all the answers suggested. When you sneeze, you do scare away the evil spirits, but in doing so you cause your heart to stop, so we say bless you not only for thanks, but to bless your heart to start again as well. Bless you is llike hitting two birds with one stone.... |

You can always reference the Eat this Not thaton the mens health website. It doesn't provide complete nutritional info for every restaurant. But it did go to the length of picking out the healthiest and the unhealthiest items that the top 60 restaurants in America serve. |

| Weight Loss | Is it better to underestimate your activity level? | Apr 24 2009 05:53 (UTC) |
|
I dont know, I recently found out how many calories I actually burn a day and based off what the sites guidelines said for activity level I thought I qualified for a level that I actually did not. I burn about 2200-2500 a day, and according to the site, for my weight at a light activity level, it recommened something like 1900 or something like that. So in my case my activity was higher then I thought, but it just goes to show that these are guidelines and as humans we make errors, especially when it comes to guessing and assuming... If your trying to lose weight go ahead and aim low, if your trying to gain aim high. |

All I was getting at was that I don't think that she was going to start a full time job creating and managing a baking business. She is a teenager, looking to bake cakes for people that are willing to pay, calling it a cake business just makes it a little more fun. Its not like she will be placing orders to dozens of people a week and will be having bulk baking materials sent to her house. I imagine that her business reach will extend to family, friends and locals from her neighborhood. Like I said she probably wants to come off as professional and make a some a fair amount of coin doing something that she loves, but I don;t think that a 15 year old is or has to meet all the obligations that a full fledged legitimate bakery would... Not to say that your bakery isn't legitimate, a bakery is a bakery is a bakery, I simply meant the difference between someone running a bakery to support themselves and their family (a much bigger operation) as opposed to a teen looking to make a little money doing something that she loves... Now yes, she should learn that there are rules and regulations to follow when it comes to work, jobs, business. But she is still young for most of that stuff, I don't think the FDA is going to come and kick down her door and fine the hell out of her for not following all of the guidelines suggested. In reality we are both making this a much bigger deal than it actually is and on that note I will stop responding to this becaue I am obviously kicking a dead horse. Enjoy your baking zebulancherry, and good luck |

I said f the obsession today and made it all the way to the end before I tallied up my total, and I feel pretty good. Had two krispy kreme donuts and didn't even know the caloric content of them at the time, didn't care either. In fact, the only reason, consciously, that I can think of as to why I totaled my intake at the end of the day is because I am trying to track my weight gain. Haven't broke the habit yet, but all I can say was it felt good to eat those donuts and not know. |

Original Post by nasuoni: lol, not trying to be rude, but that just saids funny... I agree with what everyone is saying in hear except for this, you should take it seriously to some degree, i.e looking into getting a license to sell food at the most. But there is no need to start paying taxes for her "business". Also no need to put her "employee" or mom on the payroll. And its almost absurd to suggest setting her mom up with workers comp., you know just in case she burns herself while baking and decides to sue her daughter.... lol, sorry, this is coming off as rude and I apologize for that. Its like your applying the same rules that it takes to set up a restaurant to a kid trying to sell lemonade... Not to trying to say the OP is a 5 year old kid selling lemonade, but they are both relatively small businesses that probably won't be prosecuted by local and state laws for not following the all ir the guidelines.. |

Well weigh yourself before you eat and after you use the bathroom. But if you did eat and feel it necessary to weigh, consider the grams... about 500 grams in a pound, so a 45grams packet of oatmeal plus 3/4 cup (6 ounces of water), plus a 170gram cup of yogurt, plus 20 or so grams of peanut butter.... 6 ounce / /3/4cup = .375lbs 235 grams = .518lbs so .375 + .518 = .893lbs so you can account for anywhere from .8 to .9lbs of breakfast roughly, adjust as necessary.... *Note I don't account for food in the belly when I weigh, I am just a little OCD when it comes to numbers... |

It sucks to think that you would have to take these precautions, but its true. In a day and age where someone can sue McDonald's because their food made them fat.... It really is one of those better safe then sorry, i'd buy a cake without complaint, but other people might not be so kind. |

Yeah I just read your profile too, and that just further reinforces what everyone else has been trying to say. It's better for you to recognize and kick the habit now, then to keep feeding it and letting it slowly destroy you. If you keep on down the road that you are headed, it will eventually affect your goal/ability to be a doctor... Just think about it. |

Well I don't like to read posts like this, because the OP usually gets bombarded with a bunch of very direct messages saying that they are underweight and doing it all wrong, that their goals are out of whack. Which very well may be true, but it can be discouraging if thats all you read post after post... What was mentioned above is all correct information, I completely agree with what was metnioned in the other responses. And judgeing from your picture, I really do think you wouldn't look better with further weight loss, you'be been told it before, but you are pretty skinny as it stands. As for some of your original questions. I think that your carb-fat-protein intake is pretty normal, unless your body building I don't think it would be necessary to increase the protein. Fat is needed in the diet, the age old myth "if no fat touches my lips, then no fat will touch my hips..." is just that, a myth. Next only bad thing about the excess fruit, is that you are getting an abundance of antioxidants... Seriously, fruit is simply not bad for you, dried fruit is a little less healthy then fresh raw fruit, but all the same. The sugar in fruit is not the same sugar in a little debbie swiss miss roll. The sugar in fruit is fructose and is negligible when calculating your sugar intake. Now the sugar in the little debbies snack is refined sugar, or sucrose, which in excess amounts can be altered and stored as fat. But please take the advice that everyone else above has given. I do honesty think that if you were any smaller that you wouldn't look as good as you do now. I think that you would even look a little better with a few more pounds on you, but thats just my humble opinion. Take care and good luck. |

I think that you will be hard pressed to open up at first, which is where the jouirnaling and wrting your thoughts down will help. But I have a feeling that once you do start to open up to the doc, that you will be amazed with how much better you'll feel, possibly. I mean being able to relay your inner most thoughts to another human being in person is one of the biggest weights that can be lifted from your chest. I don't know what or why you are having the thoughts that you are, but sure enough if you try what g.i jane and windra were talking about, that it will be easier then you think |

Original Post by cami430: I heard that it was the opposite. The carbonation makes you feel fuller, the artificial sweetener might make you want to eat more, but the carbonation in the beverage of choice is said to filll your stomach. Thats why at places like Chinese buffets, they always offer soda before they offer water when they ask you if you want a drink ;) |

My goal is 140 by the beginning of August, preferabbly sooner, so I can tone up at the gym a little before I go see my family for the first time since christmas... But that seems really unlikely. I only skipped the breakfast lunch once, and that just had to be done, there was no way any more food would fit in my stomach... Thanks for the addvice though abbie. |

My only suggestion for his said "stubbornness" is to start to trick him. When you make baked goods, start using substitutes for the fattening and sugary ingredients, like applesauce and splenda... There are all kinds of subtle substitutions you can make when prepping the meals that he may not notice. I haven't tried replacing the potatoes in "mashed potatoes" with cauliflower, but I hear they basically taste the same, minus the calories.. Good luck though. |

I was drinking upwards of 6-10 cans a day for several months, slightly less then that for years prior. It didn't make me gain weight, but it certainly affected my teeth... I brush two-three times a day and pride myself in having a decent set of chompers... But after a recent dental cleaning, my dentist asked me how much sugar I was getting?!? I said next to none, that I don't really eat or drink anything with sugar. But somehow my teeth were slightly yellowing. Anyway she used her Sherlock Holmes method of deduction and determined that the artificial sweetener in extremely large doses over an extended period of time has a similar affect on the teeth as sugar... I quit, immediately but now I drink maybe a couple of cans a week, for the caffeine, I need it as a diuretic... I was not successful at entirly quiting, but was able to cut back from almost a 12pack a day to a few a week... |

Yes, I don't know if I would trust the hrm's at the gym. I did some eliptical in my day, and tested the hrm that some of them have. I used multiple machines, of the same brand over 3 days. I found that one machine put my hr at around 130-140, which is where I wanted it to be. I went at the same level on another machine and it put me at 85-90... and on the 3rd machine I went at a slightly faster pace and it glocked me at 165-170... All in all I wouldn't trust them. |

No I did get a white LED front light, the red light I got was for the rear, sorry for the confusion. For about an hour and a half of leisure riding, I don't know the distance, or the speed. But I was biking at a moderate pace, anyway I burned 454 calories (thats a 95% accurate estimate). So 400 seems reasonable |

I really don't use the scale that much. But I was truely shocked to see a 8lb gain. Yes the sodium intake was high with a low water intake. I want to gain, and yes there is some fear, but I am pretty sure that I would be comfortable with being 129, but I don't know about being 129 and looking all puffy and whatnot. Man I can't wait to reach that set-point. I will try to narrow the calorie intake, and yes it was a major leap from an average of 2600-3000 to 3700+ for 5 days.... Thanks again for the advice, it is much appreciated. |

Yes the judges for the competition are ridiculous. Usually you have to have some sort of background in pageants and or fashion/beauty to be a judge, I would assume. As for the issue at hand, I don't necessarily believe that she lost for the comment on gay marriage, I think that she just legitimately lost, and might be using the overreaction from that guy perez, or whatever its name is, as a way to cope with losing. Anyway, I don't beleive that anyone was fairly judged seeing the list of actual judges for the competition. |

To be honest and to help reassure you a little, I don't think that the two week stint of below 1000 calorie intake did any major or lasting harm to your metabolism. The good thing is you caught it early, good for you. |
