| Weight Loss | Reward Scheme | Aug 08 2007 23:57 (UTC) |

| Yep, I used the reward system a couple years ago. The way I worked mine was everytime I exercised and ate well, I crossed that day on my calendar. At the end of the month I would count up the crosses and allow myself $5.00 for each cross I had. THEN if I'd reached my goal weight loss for the month, I was allowed to go spend all that $$ I'd earned on something, usually it was clothing. I needed it cos I was shrinking! It worked really well. I always met my weightloss goals, and worked out a lot. Lost a good 18 kgs. (40lbs??)
Can't do it anymore though... bit short of cash these days. |

| The Lounge | My husband and I have chosen NOT to have children. Want to lecture me? *lol* | Aug 06 2007 23:51 (UTC) |

| WOW! I am totally shocked by the amount of couples that have chosen to not have kids! I had no idea there was so many! My husband and I are nearing our 30's and made the decision several years ago that we didn't want to have kids. My parents are cool with it. His parents don't know yet, I'm guessing his mum MAY have a problem with it. While she's not at the "when are you having kids" stage, she has said things such as "oh... when you have kids" etc. So I think it has been assumed.
Its your life and your decision, don't let anyone make you feel like you're making a wrong choice simply because it goes against the grain of society. |

| Yeah we live in a house too, and our neighbours love to play music at all sorts of odd hours of the day and night.. just the past weekend I woke at about 8:30 saturday morning (the day that was invented for sleeping in!) to thump, thump, boom, boom etc. 8 freakin 30! Who does that?! Don't get me wrong, I love music, and have nothing against loud music, but seriously, at 8:30 in the morning when I'm enjoying a nice quiet sleep in is just not on!
These are also the people who once started a rather loud drinking party at about 9am. I was hanging out the washing and could hear them asking if someone wanted a vodka, to which the other voice enthusiastically replied YEAH!. I could hear other voices, and of course the music. 9am! Another time, their party started late one afternoon, and didn't finish til about 7am the following morning. Urgh that was a fun night. |

| What a cool post!
Oh I hope you find your sisters dog, gypsierose! I'm at work right now, so can only imagine what my four cats are up to! Murphy, is probably being lazy. On the back of the couch, in front of the fire, wherever she is she's guaranteed to be flat out. Yoda, I bet he's on his morning walk down the street, visiting neighbours. Willow, maybe curled up on our bed with hubby who's sick and not at work today.. OR being chased by Orion. Orion is probably chasing Willow. Or also snuggled up with hubby on the bed. Awww. |

| Ok well its Friday where I live, so weighed in this morning.
A disappointing 65.5kg, same as last week so no loss, but atleast no gain! Not sure why though I've been good, ate within cals or slightly over, like yesterday. And have been to Curves twice this week, will go again tonight, but I haven't been walking though cos its been so freakin' cold. Maybe thats why no loss. |

| Weigh yourself once a week or fortnight... not everyday. If you weigh every day you see the little, normal fluctuations which occur to everyone. Whereas, if you just weigh once a week, (preferrably same time and same day) all you see is hopefully, a loss. Therefore ending all the unnecessary panic
And its also perfectly normal to "gain" around TTOTM. But once its over, your weight should go back to normal. |

| Foods | Special K diet | Jul 23 2007 04:45 (UTC) |

| Muttlover is right. 2 meals of the cereal a day, plus a balanced meal. I used to have it for breakfast and dinner and had a balanced lunch, they also suggest you snack on fresh fruits & veges and special K bars.
Yeah, you'll lose weight this way, but its basically a calorie restricting type diet. You'll soon get bored of eating cereal and crave something else. I've tried and failed 3 times to do this diet, because I got bored with the cereal and I found it extremely unsatisfying, cos to me the serving is just a tiny bit of cereal. I've had much more success eating oatmeal for two meals instead of Special K. Simply because its about the same amount of cals, but more satisfying and filling. |

| Oh fun!
Growing up my family had: Rama - Siamese cat - got run over with the car by my dad which injured his leg, cat was old and my parents didn't wanna put him through another painful recovery Cindy - black tortiseshell cat - was put to sleep last year, kidneys were failing Cleo - Tabby cat - she's still going strong nearly nearly 20 years old Zed - beautiful ginger tabby - this was my first own kitten, unfortunately he ingested something toxic which resulted in him having to be put to sleep :-( Mine and hubbys pets: Kahlua - gorgeous tortiseshell cat, she got hit by a car and died Murphy - big ginger female cat, one of our strays we've picked up along the way, we still have her she's getting old though Tiger - white with tabby bits - another stray we picked up, but she developed a weird skin disorder and after a year of constant vet visits and no real progress we made the decision to put her to sleep Yoda - big black & white cat with an unsusually curly tail - still have him, he's only just over 2 years old Willow - pretty little tabby with ginger bits, came from the SPCA - mummys girl, she's also only just 2 years old Orion - most recent addition - tabby cat, about six months old. also came from the SPCA, big troublemaker We also have like... 30 odd tropical fish with only 1 having a name, which is Bert the Rainbow Shark. And A dog called Bob (original owner named him Spongebob) We had 2 sheep too, Tex and Rom - we had to uhhh, set them free phew, thats quite a list. |

| Uhh.. this is the lowest fat one I've found. Per 100g it has like 3.5g of saturated fat... I don't know if thats considered high or not. 125 cals per 100 serving, compared to like.. 230+ for higher fat versions.. | |||

| I don't think there are any zero calorie foods, but most vegetables are low in calories, especially lettuce...
If you're thinking about negative calorie foods, allegedly, carrots amongst other foods can use more calories to digest than what they contain, thus technically having a zero/negative calorie effect. I don't know how much truth there is in it though. |

| Foods | Do you count all these items in your calorie logs? I have been, but..... | Jul 05 2007 04:32 (UTC) |
|
| If I don't weigh it before I eat it, I don't count it. This goes for things like herbs & spices, which I use generally minimal amounts that wouldn't even register on my scales. Same goes for drinks like Coke Zero, with I rarely drink these days anyway, generally is maybe 1 glass every couple of days.. the cals are hardly worth registering. I don't log water either, I know some people do though, just to keep track of how much they are drinking. Any other drinks I have that have a significant amount of cals, say over 10 I'll log.
I have an apple at least once a day, so definitely count those. And definitely count all my veges, I like getting A's :) |

I'm pretty sure I got that tip from here, I don't know if it works for all baking, but I know it works for muffins. I've made these ones before with it, just never calculated the cals in them. |

| Recipes | need good low cal trifle recipe dessert pref chocolate | Jul 02 2007 03:27 (UTC) |

| Sounds like the american version of trifle is different from what we have here in NZ. You might want to give ours a try though!
Ours generally has sponge cake, cut into cubes, (guess you could use your brownies though), put in jelly (before it sets) which you can get very low cal, and you can add fruit, then once its set, you topped with cold custard, which you can get low cal, low fat versions of. Don't know about in the US though, but hey if NZ has it surely the US does. I guess you could always substitute the custard for the chocolate pudding. My mum used to make it this way too. |

| I have a debate raging in my head. To eat or not to eat. I get this a lot, but its particulary strong today. On the weekend I ate way too much especially bad food and as a result compensated yesterday by eating a measly 900 cals.. and I worked out too. I KNOW this is bad for me. Its nearly lunchtime here and so far today I've eaten about 250 cals. I have a yogurt and an apple for lunch, (150 cals) and another yogurt and apple for my snacks (150 cals) and a ww fruit bar (123 cals) then probably something under 200 cals for dinner, which will bring me to just under 800 cals today. And I'll work out. I know this is the wrong way to do it, but I can't bring myself to eat anymore. I badly want to go to the McDonalds up the street to get a nice healthy brown bread chicken sandwich but I don't know how many cals it has. Part of me, (the sensible part) is saying, yes go do it you need it. The other part says No, you'll gain weight and think about the guilt!
Ugh what to do? |

| I would say quit shaving and start getting it waxed. Waxing pulls the whole hair out rather than just cutting the hair as shaving does. It'll take longer to grow back than what it does when you shave and it will also be finer, and most importantly won't itch as it grows back. | |||

| I know how you feel. A few years ago I went on a meal replacement shake diet for several months and lost about 33lbs in about 9 months. People were telling me that I was looking great, and some even went as far as telling me I was getting too skinny, but I didn't see it. I went from a size 16-18 (new zealand sizes) to a 10-12. It was only one day when I saw a photo of myself pre-weight loss compared with a more recent one and I thought WOW, I have come along way! Those photos are in my pictures if you wanna have a look. | |||

| Twiggy - From reading your posts and your profile, I think that who you are today, is who I will be in the future if I don't sort myself out. I could have written your profile, I'm 5'4" about 148 lbs, have an office job where I sit at a desk all day and think about food WAY too much. I do so many of the things you do, like religiously check labels, if it doesn't have a label or I can't look up the cal content online, I don't wanna eat it and will try to find something else. I don't like eating other peoples cooking for the same reasons as you posted. I too have a little black book, which up until last week, I wrote down everything I ate. If it wasn't in that book it was in a word document on my computer at work. I didn't go to the gym nearly as much as you but would tell myself that I was "naughty" for not going and get really down on myself for it. I haven't got to the huge "binging" stage.. yet. But I'm aware of my unnecessary eating habits. | |||

| Thanks for the welcome, United. I have talked to my husband, it helped. At least I know someone is watching out for me. I think he understood, or partially at least. I know its to do with my self-esteem (or lack of). What he can't understand is why I don't like myself, the way I look. He thinks I should just be able to magically snap out of it... but I don't know how to explain to him that I can't. I have thought alot over the last week or two about why I do what I do, and apart from the self-esteem issues, I haven't come to any other conclusions.. yet. |

| Hey everyone, my first time posting in this thread. I haven't been diagnosed with an eating disorder and I don't consider myself underweight at all or too overweight.. but think that my attitudes and habits in regards to eating are not normal and/or healthy.
I am doing, and have done in the past, done things typical of people suffering from eating disorders, like binging & purging, and starving myself. I haven't done either of these things lately, but can recall eating huge bags of lollies, then making myself throw up and on the other end of the scale, eating only 3 cups of 45 cal soup a day. These days I seem to eat way too much (probably not enough to be considered a binge) but then I feel guilty and will "starve" myself the next few days, only taking in 700 cals or less. I've recently chewed & spit things that I crave, such as crackers & choc biscuits. Food is constantly on my mind, I obsess over calories and I'm sick of it. I guess most of you won't consider me as as suffering from an ED but, I know that what I do is not normal or healthy. |
