| Weight Loss | Lighter after a Calorie Overload? Confused . . . | Nov 12 2009 15:23 (UTC) |

I did notice it would tend to go back up slightly but then within just a few days, if I stayed good, that would become the new regular weight, so I was still seeing a downwards trend...part of the slow and steady process of my weight loss. |

I've also had similar results from "overeatting" or eatting a lot closer to maintainance calories for a day instead of my normal lower amount. I think what I started to realize or believe this is true in my case anyways, that I was overworking my body without taking in enough calories to be losing weight and was on the border of starvation mode. (Otherwise my weight loss seemed really slow but steady, maybe a lb. a week, or sometimes it wouldn't seem like even that, but then I had a "rest" day where I maybe ate 2000-2500 calories, and bam, the next day the scale would drop 1-2 lbs.). I think when you finally give your body those extra few calories it was probably needing then it relaxes and doesn't think your starving and allows your body to shed that extra lb. After a time I started making a point to have at least one day a week like this, while I also zig-zagged the calories other days. It's nice to be able to eat more "normal" instead of feeling so restricted all the time. :) |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Weight loss shile breastfeeding - any experiences? | Oct 27 2009 16:49 (UTC) |

Each person is going to be different. With my first baby I didn't do ANYTHING thinking the weight would naturally go down because I was breastfeeding and that's what other women said happened...usually by about 6 months. My body doesn't seem to burn many more calories while producing milk, while other women apparently do. So after the 6 month mark I finally decided I had to do something so I started with moderate exercise. I would limit calories but nothing extreme, and still made sure I got a good range of protein, carbs, healthy fats. With the second child I started walking for exercise and just tried not to stick to good portions but probably had roughly 1700 calories a day. I lost weight very slowly, but of course, the baby is more important than getting your body back in shape...but at least it was on it's way somewhat. You'll just have to take it day by day and see which type you are, but like other said, take it slow. It wouldn't hurt you to do very moderate exercise especially in the beginning. Walking seemed to help my stomach muscles tighten up a LITTLE, but a noticeable bit after just 1 week. As long as you're not doing high intensity workouts and dont' leave yourself ever starving or hungry, AND you don't seem to notice a significant decrease in your milk production, you will do fine. |

| Foods | Curse you Candy Corn! | Oct 21 2009 14:40 (UTC) |

Okay, to all the people that rational that eating a small portion of candy corn is okay...I think all of us already understand the concept. For some of us it's just that candy corn is one of those "trigger" foods, once you have even a little, you seem to lose control and can't stop. I've personally tried to have candy corn in someone's else's desk at work and only get out a small serving and yet I still always go back for more. For me once I get the taste in my mouth it's like I'm a drug addict and keep going for more. I have a huge sweet tooth but usually there are only few certain treats that affect me this way - to stick to a reasonable portions is a LOT harder and so the only way for me to avoid it is to not by the product at all. |

| The Lounge | What do you do when you just don't want to? | Oct 20 2009 16:37 (UTC) |

I've been feeling "lazy" a lot of mornings and it's been a lot harder to get up and workout in the morning like usual. I'd say lately I've been working out on average 3-4 mornings instead of my normal 5 each week. And my exercise time has been getting shorter and shorter. I allowed myself to get lazier because it was too hard to fight it. But then of course I also got lax on my diet most days of the week, and regrettably I'm seeing the downside - I've gained a few lbs. on. So now I'm trying to reprioritize and because it IS important to me to look good and feel good about myself, I've a renewed motivation and I'm going to work harder. Basically I think it's okay to take a day off here and there...you just have to be careful it doesn't become one day a week, then 2 days....and before you know it you're not exercising at all. |

I'm the biggest candy corn junkie ever. I've eaten 3 whole large bags on my own just in the past month. I can't stop once I get started and even tho I know better I can't pass up picking up a bag once a week or so. |

| Motivation | How to let it go? | Oct 06 2009 17:29 (UTC) |

Don't beat yourself up and think that there is something wrong with you because you are not the problem. I know despite everything it still hurts to let him go, but trust me, it's because something better is going to come along later. I let go of a boyfriend of 4 and 1/2 years and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, almost impossible (and he wasn't mistreating me, cheating on me, or doing ANYTHING horrible, it's just that I could tell he didn't care or love me truly and deeply and felt we both would be happier possibly with someone else). Well, it was definitely hard for a long time, but that something better and happier came along and I've heard the same thing is also true for my ex-bf, even though I have no contact with him. Don't ask "why me?" because this is just setting you up for something even better in life. Just love yourself and deal with your pain but move on and don't look back! You will get over it with time and eventually it will just be a memory. Keep in touch with other people and be involved in activities, to avoid depression. It'll help you move on faster. |

Hi fitness girl. I was wondering if you could advise me on why I'm still only using 3 lbs weights and it still feels like I'm going to die doing some of the strength moves, I've been doing level 1 for 4-5 days a week for the past month and previously I was doing Turbo Sculpt with the same 3 lb. handweights. I'll admit I don't even own any 5 lb weights but I intended to buy them when I got to that step. My legs have adapted fine, but why is it my arms seem to stay the same? |

I like the 20 minute workouts too. There's less of an excuse not to fit them in. But my little arms are so weak, even though I've worked on them with weights, I can't hardly do level 2 of Shred because so much is in the plank position. |

| Weight Loss | Does everyone eat healthy faithfully to lose weight? | Aug 11 2009 14:41 (UTC) |
17 |
I think the only way someone could honestly eat healthy faithfully every day if they don't have the taste for sugar or salt they way most people do. My husband for instance - he usually passes up cake, ice cream, candy, whatever the rest of us are having and somehow just doesn't want it (and he could stand to gain weight). I cheat usually 2-3 days a week (eating probably a MINImum of 3000 calories) because I've hit my goal weight that I want to maintain. I just try to make sure I'm getting in some good hard workouts and still challenging my body. Even when I was in the process of losing weight I still ate maybe one little piece of chocolate a day or even had a small, measured amount of ice cream that I accounted for in my food log. ANd then I still had probably at least one really high calorie day during the weekend. I went into this with the thinking that it has to be something I can do for the rest of my life and I can not live without sweets forever. Plus it is true that when I do just have the occasional small serving of something like cake or ice cream, it tastes that much better because I appreciate being able to eat at least a little here and there. Used to I could gorge and gorge on junk food and never seem to be satisfied. |

| Fitness | help! in a ton of pain from running | Aug 11 2009 14:33 (UTC) |

Wow, 18 miles! You mean you're supposed to be able to run that far and not be in a lot of pain?!?! Sorry for your pain...I've had pain from running and usually doing a combination of several things like the hot and cold, IB, and just good old rest eventually eases it...I hope you don't have a more serious injury, it seems the pain should continue to improve gradually. Good luck! |

| Fitness | Skinny allover except for Belly...what to do now? | Aug 07 2009 15:25 (UTC) |

Thanks for the advice! I'll certainly try for the arm and shoulder strength training. I told my husband last night (unfortunately after having kids and losing all the weight, I'm extremely flat chested) that if I had bigger boobs it would help make me look smaller in the belly. Unforunately I'm stuck with the way I am for now. I recently started doing level 2 of Shred video and it uses a lot of plank position exercises that have really challenged me more than anything in a long time. I have extremely weak skinny arms and only use 3 lb weights. I wouldn't mind if I COULD bulk up my arms a tad. |

The turbo sculpt is my favorite because it's all about strength training and for some reason (I probably need bigger weights) I find it easier. But they say it's important to not underestimate strength training because it burns calories long after doing it whereas cardio is mostly in the moment. The sculpt is challenging compared to other sculpting workouts I've done, she makes you use your quads and arms together for almost every second. I still have a hard time doing the Cardio Party, just because of the duration, but it is just challenging period. I like it but unless it's later in the day I don't quite have the energy to complete the moves. I don't know what type of moves are involved in the Punch, kick and Jam video, I didn't know there was another, so I may have to check that out, but if you don't alraedy know how to do things like holding your ab's tucked in or...oh I forget the names of all the moves...I'd take the time to do the learn and burn a few days...if nothing else just to practice your form. I was sore after just doing learn and burn the first few times (my back, so be careful on the "row" if you're not used to that move already). The 20 minute workout video is great because I have just enough stamina to get through that workout without petering out or wanting to throw in the towel. It's hard to pick a favorite....I love them all.... |

I've been doing several different turbo jam workouts for about 2-3 months and I love it. But I had been using the same exact workout dvd for almost 3 years prior to that so I really needed the change. The ab jam definetely is the best ab workout I've ever done (and I do own about 5 different ab workout dvds). I still don't have a completely flat stomach because I still have a little more flab to shed, but it's still really tightened up that area (and I've had 2 kids). I have lost all of my pregnancy weight and I'm actually a size smaller than I was in college, which I already thought was pretty good at the time. I think seeing the results is actually a longer slower process and probably varies from person to person. If you are only carrying a few lbs of extra weight it's easier to see tone and definition but as far as results on the scale, if you are dedicated to doing the workouts 5-6 days of the week and watch what you eat, you can see results within a couple of weeks I would think. (sometimes when I first start a new regimin, it takes a couple of weeks before I see a drop in the scale and then all of a sudden, if I'm really good, I'll lose approximately 1-2 lbs. a week). Well, good luck to you, hope you've got enough time before you're wedding to start getting results that you are happy with. I've learned to be patient and not expect changes overnight and I think that has been one of the major keys to sticking with my new "lifestyle." Whereas before I wanted it NOW and since it didn't happen that quick I usually gave up. I've dropped 2 sizes in the last 4 months and now I am enjoying the payoff. Persistance is key! |

I took a week off for vacation and didn't worry about exercise or what I put in my mouth. Fortunately I gained maybe 2 lbs. at most, but I'm only about 5 lbs. away from my goal. I am excited though because for the past 5 months I've exercised regularly and that's twice as long as I usually go before I go back to my old habits. I'm making good so far on my new healthier lifestyle! Today I weighed 121. I have not set a goal date, but would like to get down to 115. I'm mostly happy with where I'm at and don't mind if it takes a while....I don't know. I'll say August 31 is my goal date. |

Thanks for the advice from both of you. I do allow myself to feel whatever I may or cry whenever. I live about an hour and half from parents, but have been talking to them almost every day by phone. I feel like I'm doing pretty good most times, just have some down moments...I don't know. Maybe I'm still in shock somewhat. It's sinking in slowly. Just hard to imagine that someone just stops existing physically and actively in your present and future life. I want to handle this in the most healthy way possible. I've been forcing myself to talk about my brother even when it's been hard, or when I've almost STOPPED myself from bringing him up. |

I'm the go-to girl here at work when someone is hungry. I keep the blue diamond nuts at my desk, plus usually 4-5 different boxes of different types of bars such as Special K meal replacement bars, fiberone bars, Kashi go lean protein bars, and right now a special treat are my Chex Mix turtle mix bars. And in the fridge I usually have my fiberone or weight watchers yogurt, sometimes some milk, and a box of cereal. I keep this place better stocked with low cal/healthy snacks than I do my own home. I also have a lot of those different drink mix packets, some of them with the protein and fiber. |

my legs were really fatigued to where I could barely get through a lot of the motions. I decided after about 10 minutes into the cardio party workout this morning, that I needed a break. I went walking instead. Has anyone else had a difficult time sticking with the challenge? I don't know if I'm just not fit enough yet for the challenge or if it was really about lack of sleep and not having the energy for it. |

If you've only been doing the gym and everything starting one month ago, you may need to give yourself some more time to see results. I personally see no weight loss for about the first 2 weeks and then start to lose maybe 1 or 2 lbs a week. Good sleep seems to make a difference in weight loss too. |

I was pretty close to your exact stats just a few months ago. I started out only walking and eating around 1300 calories a day and was losing 1-2 lbs a week. Then I wanted to start running but I stopped losing weight almost completely, but then I gradualy increased my calorie intake week by week until lately I started eating roughly 2000 calories a day (and now I only run about 6 miles on average a week and do some other cardio and strength training) and NOW i'm starting to lose weight a lot quicker (about 2 lbs a week) and if you're not even trying to lose weight, you may need to do a lot more than 2000 calories. If you're not even hungry than that could be a result from so long of undernourishing. Good luck eating healthier! |
