Weight Loss How much water do you drink? Nov 19 2009

I keep a plastic liter-sized bottle at my desk all day.  I make it a point to:

a) Drink enough in the morning first thing to take pills with
b) Drink the whole liter by the time my shift is up at night
c) Refill it and sip on at least another half a liter at night.

If I don't do that, I'm one of those "forgets to drink" kind of people.  I'm just never thisty... I find that by drinking at least 1.5 liters, though, everything feels better and more... consistent.

Yeah, gum is good and all, but definitely don't overdo it.

I have a sprained TMJ from a car accident three years ago.  Everything was healing nicely until about three weeks ago when I started obsessivly chewing gum again because of stress.

I am in SO MUCH AGONY right now that I can't sleep at night.  Learn from my pain! ;) Try popping a sweet mint instead?  Altoids has a new flavor out, honey or something along those lines.

This isn't anywhere as near a good of a reply as dabrock's, however:

I have actually read somewhere... possibly here?... Certain colon cleansing products contain clay, which will solidify in your bowel and then be evacuated, causing you to think you're eliminating all sorts of waste from your body that had been built up for years.

I would also like to think that a detox would be beneficial to our health, but sadly I don't believe that is the case.

Weight Loss A Happy Weight For A 5'2'' Girl Oct 12 2009

I'm also 5'2" and fluctuate between 99 and 105.  I'd say, we should be happy where we are.  I tend to feel my best at 100 - 101.

Right now, try eating when you are hungry.  Eat small/measured/"serving size" portions.  Eat slowly.  Eat what you burn in a day... you will maintain and feel fabulous. Smile

Once in a while I have a binge day and freak out.  I was 106 last week.  But this morning, back down to 101.  We hold water, undigested food.  Give yourself those five pounds to play around with... but I don't think someone our height should be below 100, personally.... even though it feel awesome.

It isn't simple.

If it was simple, we'd all be better.

Also, my BMI is like 18.4 or something.

Bitter much? You know, some people take words to heart, you might want to be careful with what you say to people.  Some are emotionally unstable enough that your unthoughtfulness could push them over the edge.

5'2".

I should be happy with 105 but it's not exercise-driven so it's fat and not muscle.

As far as protein goes, are you vegetarian?  There are lots of sources, but being a vegetarian can make it a bit trickier to get enough in.

'fraid not.  I just can't seem to get enough in my diet.  I get cereals with added protein or that has a lot of soy in it, breads with added protein, cottage cheese... once in a while chicken is tossed in my meal plan.

If your overall nutrition is pretty good then drinking 250 calories in sugar form isn't going to hurt you.  If you're subsituting basic nutrition for sugar it's bad, but if it's an occasional treat it won't do any harm.

Overall my nutrition is mostly carbs, plenty of fiber, some protein (not enough... working on that) and fruits.  I tend to eat the same thing every day.  No substituting today, just needed to kick my butt into gear! :)

I agree that the commercial is a load o' crapola.

However, they're pretty smart if you think about it.  Look how many people on this site are obsessed with calorie restriction and not eating... all potential customers. Their advertising techniques are targeting those of us, and it will work.  I know I am already a victim of the gum method, just not Extra.

Ahh, prozac.

I had a nervous breakdown about two months ago, at the lowest point of my eating issues (yet, not my lowest weight).  I was prescribed prozac before I went through with any of my plans of driving out in front of an oncoming truck.

Let me tell you... within about 3 weeks, my obsession with calorie counting diminished.  It is in fact used to treat anorexia, as well as other things.  I became less obsessed with the numbers in the foods I was eating.  I was able to stop weighing food.  I could even enjoy a splurge.

The minute I quit losing though and was just maintaining and feeling good, it all came back.  It's still no where near as bad as it was (fainting spells, etc) and I thank the prozac for that.  Give it a while and I have a feeling you will be feeling better.

Also, if you need a friend... I know what you're feeling, (perhaps your problems are worse, perhaps mine, who knows) and depression is a horrible thing to cope with alone.  If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to drop me a message.  I really mean that.

Please feel better. :)

To blueberry_lips: what an appropriate user name for this post! haha, I saw it in my inbox and nearly lol-ed.  I am a huuuuge fan of blueberry bagels and muffins, don't really like pancakes in general... I'm going to have to try them in cereals :)

vanilla_swirl: It's odd, I never used to like the flabor!  I totally enjoyed the muffin.  And it turns out, I didn't work today (after I drove ALL THE WAY THERE) but I'm still feeling guiltless about my indulgence... Happy to feel this way.

I've heard of it, but didn't know it was used for anxiety.

I've heard of it being used to treat seizures (I'm pretty sure it's an anticonvulsant), migraines, and bipolar disorder.

Everyone's body reacts differently to medications, so it's hard to say what side effects you'll have. If you are really worried I would ask questions to who prescribed the drug combination to you.

Just keep an eye on it.

It is, in fact, an anti-seizure medication used occassionally for people who suffer from mania.  (Now I sound like a nut!).  My doc is keeping a close eye on me, and if I start to suspect anything off I will definitely further question his judgement of prescriptions.

Thanks for the reply. :)

If I were you, I would consider trying it with "supervision" by a spouse or close friend.. just kind of "check-in" with them daily to let them know how you're honestly feeling.

That's good information to have on hand, thank you.  Luckily, I live at homr still with my mother, and my father is really in-tune with my behaviors and emotions.  As well as a brother and his wife who are close with me, I'm sure it will be no problem to be notified if something drastic changes with me.

I did go ahead and take the first dose tonight, and got very manic feeling within about 30 minutes.  I got hyper, then crashed, and now I have a headache... my doctor wants to see me back in a month, so maybe it will stabilize...

I'm still wary though, especially after your reply!  Thank you again.

chrissy1988, everything you said is spot on and I really appreciate it.  I have some reflecting to do.  When I see my doctor later on this month, I will try to ask for some help.

Sorry for the short reply.  Just fairly overwhelmed with thought and emotion now.  I'll perhaps reply again with a more indepth response.

Thank you for that bit of an eye opener.
I deleted my post this time, though.  I didn't initially because I thought, perhaps, it was against a rule of some sort.  I apologize.

Thanks everyone for your info. This is the end of the 3rd day for me since I had my first dose, I read that a few people had to take two doses a day and wondering if I should because I have tried everything and it has been almost 5 days since I have had a bm.

I would give it a few more days before increasing to two doses... you're really not supposed to do that.  That's when the cramps and the discomfort starts.

Do you enjoy coffee?  I'll bet money on it- if you drink a dose this morning in a cup of coffee, you'll be a happy camper within... oh, say 2 hours? :P

It's pretty much the most amazing thing ever.  Took about four days for it to take effect with me.

When I was 12-15 I was a little bit pudgy, but not terribly overweight.

At 16 I had a spinal fusion and was immobile for 8 months. I mean, I could move... but anything besides laying in bed was painful. I ballooned up to 188 pounds.  Even after I was able to be up and about, I still kept gaining weight because of the food habits I created.  After reading this thread and thinking about it, it's no WONDER...

  • I would easily eat an entire large sized Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese Meal... fries, soda... you name it... then top it off with a milkshake.
  • Grilled Stuft Burrito from taco bell (I would kill to have one of these now without thinking about it!)
  • Wendy's Frosties.
  • Chinese food.
  • Ben & Jerry's Phish Food... polished a pint of that sucker off like it was nothing.
  • Ramen Noodles coming out my ears, WITH extra seasoning.
  • Any sort of frozen dinners... especially Hungry Man... but I was smart
enough (I guess?) to cut the portions in half.
  • Oh... more ice cream, ice cream, ice cream.
  • Chips, any kind, didn't matter.  I loved chips.
  • 3 Muskateers bars, reese's cups, york peppermint patties, snow caps, hershey's bars...
  • TONS of buttered popcorn at the movies.
  • Peanut butter toast (I still cannot get away from this...)
  • Honey Roasted Peanuts
  • Most recently... I could eat a pound of M&M's in a day and a half.
  • Pizza.  Mom & I would split half a frozen pizza... very, very frequently.
  • Arby's Curly Fries with Horsey sauce

Oh man. I'd still love to eat any of this.  But now I know better... :(

I haven't tried the PB2, but I'll vote for the Better 'n Peanut Butter. It's a bit sweeter than regular peanut butter and a little harder to spread (because it needs refrigerated). But it is tasty :) I found it at Super Target... Here's a store locater http://www.thirdperspective.com/bpb/storeLoca tor.html to see which stores sell it locally... I would suggest trying that first if you can find it locally... Save yourself the shipping & you can buy just one jar in case you don't like it...

That's exactly what I was intending on doing, so thank you for the link!  I am just totally into the whole 50 calorie thing.  But to save a little money in the mean time I may just try Better n' PB :)  Thank!

Foods frozen yogurt question Jul 06 2009

I recently did this with some dannon light and fit.

I put it in the freezer and about two hours later had myself some DELICIOUS frozen yogurt, not too hard by any means.  The next day, however, it was rock solid after being in overnight.  So I'd suggest, if you feel like having one just make sure it has only been in there a few hours... or do the stirring thing as cc31 mentioned. When it's hard, though, it makes it take longer to eat, which lets you enjoy it longer for less calories than a large portion of ice cream.  I definitely say try it!

definitely tastes like real thing and a good option to peanut butter. The only reason i stopped buying it is because it was getting too pricey (they sell it at a local health food store for about $7 a jar)

 $7 a jar!? Yiiiiikes.

Good to hear another "tastes good" comment though... definitely weighing my options here!

I just don't like the fact that you can only get it online and have to order 4 jars at a time, or have they changed that?

Either stick to the regular p-nut butter or give it up which I did  because I finally figured out that it was sabotaging my diet.  I only let myself buy a VERY small jar every six months or so, but I buy roasted unsalted peanuts instead. Takes longer too eat so I don't eat as much and they are good for me AND the squirrels! LOL

I know PB is so bad for diets, but there is no way I can give it up. ;) Thanks for the input!  I'm glad I didn't run off an buy it offline ASAP, although I'm still considering it.

It was good in the oatmeal cookies I made. As the spread I wasn't impressed. I could barely taste it. I have also tried mixing it with oatmeal and it didn't really add as much flavor as I thought it would. If it was local I would probably buy it, but not worth it when shipping is added.

Peanut butter... and chocolate. Dove, specificially.  But if given the choice, I'd eat a jar of peanut butter!... God help us all if I'm ravenous and in "I don't give a flying squirrel about my diet" mode and someone puts a reese's big cup in front of my face.

Also, M&M's. I could eat a pound of those like it was nobody's business back when I was 180lbs+
