That is tough. I'm sorry about your loss. I had a similar experience in January -- no surgery needed, my body decided to clean itself out -- and I went through some grieving as well. Afterward I realized I was 157 pounds, and that if I ever wanted to try again to conceive, that it would be better for me and a baby if I started out healthier. That wasn't my only motivation, but I have gotten back to a healthy weight since then. Good luck to you. Emotional healing can take time. Take care of yourself in the meantime. |

I used to finish the food that my kids didn't eat. I used to finish a package of anything before throwing it out. I used to finish a coffee cake if no one else would eat it! Not any more. I do not treat my body like a garbage can. |

I never said to trust what I posted! I could have told you that I know next to nothing about muscle mass or how to build it, but you guys said it for me. The original poster was asking about how to get toned arms, and I do have my own personal experience to call on for that. The guy who posted immediately after made it sound like three pound weights couldn't help at all, and I was offering a counterargument. Apparently I also threw in some misconceptions -- lots to learn folks, that's why we're here. Apologies to those who took offense at my ignorance, it has nothing to do with you. I will, however, stick with my small weights. When I move beyond toning -- hot damn -- and want to gain real strength, that's when I'll go for the big ones. (Or am I completely wrong about that too?) Let's keep these forums supportive, okay? |

I work with a trainer who has coached Olympic athletes -- and she has us work with 3 lb weights all the time. It's about the repetition, not how much weight we are working with. We use them for minutes at a time, not just for a set of ten. If you want to bulk up, like the guys who have replied to this thread, then go for the big weights. If you want to be toned, use the smaller weights AND lose weight. As the fat disappears from your body, the muscle will be revealed. I trust my trainer more than anyone I would consult with online. However, if you don't trust your trainer, find another one. |

I'm intrigued by the black bean brownie recipe. It sounds so weird that it might be good. Is it? |

Just a thought about not calling it a diet ... I won't say that I'm dieting, I call it a diet overhaul. I've had to learn how to make better choices so that I'm filling up on good food. Whatever you call it, keep up the good work! The recipe analyzer is a great tool. |

Try entering each individual ingredient into your food log, and then look at the total. I wouldn't be surprised if it hits 1500. (That would be my entire calorie budget for the day!) |
