Health & Support I feel like a fake anorexic.. Dec 02 2009

Hey Cowcow,

Don't be afraid to gain. I thought I was OK at some point when I was 83 lbs (I am 4'10"), but I actually looked like a walking ghost. I was pale, fragile (I hate looking weak), and just dead-looking. When I came home after a month of bad eating habits, my family and friends were horrified at what I looked like. I had to face reality, and overcome my fears.

Now it's your turn too. I know that in the back of your mind, you must have some reserve about your health because you chose to post about this. Have faith in yourself to become healthy again--you must fight to overcome the fear and anxiety that comes with gaining weight.

I am now 93lbs (originally 95 lbs), and I am more happy than ever being here than I could have at a lower weight. Remember that you're not alone--there is support out there, but it starts with your own will first.

Health & Support after anorexia.recovery question! help(: Nov 23 2009

How long have you been in recovery? I'm glad to see you that you're putting efforts into eating better, but you have to make sure that you're always working around a well-rounded diet with enough calories and nutrients. However, hair recognizes changes in the body much slower than other organs and structures, meaning that the state of your hair reflects your physical condition approximately 3-6 months ago. If you have only started recovery, don't expect to see rapid changes in hair loss until you're at least a few months.

I remember being in so much panic and fear when I saw how much hair I was losing when I was eating poorly. But with proper nutrition and eating well for many months, my hair is healthier than ever before. Don't give up--just continue eating well, and you'll see the expected changes!

Weight Gain Yet another period question--sorry! Nov 03 2009

Hi guys, thanks for the help. Just a little bit more about me: I'm 19 years old, and the only form of real exercising I do is walking. I have no-sweat dance classes 3 times a week (an hour long each).  I actually don't count calories, but I try to incorporate as much milk, cheese, peanut butter, butter/oil in general, into my diet.

Health & Support Did BC ever restart your period? Oct 18 2009

Actually, I'm having the same problem. I went on BC for a while to induce my period, but stopped after 2 months. I was expecting my normal period to return, but it never did. I did spot once (which got me really excited), but I have yet to get a real full period. I am also at a very healthy, stable weight at the moment.

My doctor told me to go on BC again just to get my cycle a "jumpstart"--has anyone heard of this? I still want to get my period back naturally, but I guess if my system needs a little starter, I'll go ahead and continue with BC.

It's ok, I totally understand your situation!

I started undereating without much thought, and lost quite a bit a weight--about 10 pounds. The first few months, I never noticed any difference in my hair, until 3 months later! I was just brushing through my hair with my fingers (like I always do) when a huge blob came out! That's when it hit me that something was wrong. I was terrified of washing my hair because I would lose so much each time.

Now that was about five months ago. Nowadays, I eat hearty meals, and voila, I've stopped shedding! I haven't gotten back to what I used to be, but I can see it coming, especially with all the baby hairs growing out!

So as long as you continue to eat more, eat healthy, your hair will come back. It will just take time. Don't expect anything to happen in one night, or even one week. Just like recovery is a gradual process, so is your hair!

Health & Support whats wrong with eating less than 1500 calories a day? Jun 08 2009

I truly hope that from all the responses you've received, that you realize that your way of eating, and living, is not healthy, practical, or normal.

IF you are maintaining at the amount of calories you are consuming now, in addition to exercise, then that seriously means you have a very very low metabolic rate. In other words, terrible metabolism. The only way to improve your metabolism (and overall health) is to increase your calories and eat a healthy diet. And yes, when you up your calories, you can still maintain(I will not encourage you to lose).

I am Chinese as well, 18 years old, 4 ft. 10, and your desired weight is near my happy weight. Are your goals realistic at all? Please please reconsider what you're doing.

String cheese! This stuff is amazingly tasty. They are around 7g protein each, and can range from 50-100 calories, so you can eat one or two depending on what you need.

And definitely go for yogurt. Good protein, calcium, and bacteria for the gut!

Hi Ashley,

I'm so glad to hear that you're willing to confront ED, but it does require a lot of motivation.

I never had an eating disorder, but I developed abnormal eating habits after starting college. I lost my period for half a year, but I just got it back today! When I lost my period for 4 months, I realized that it could not go on any longer--I'm harboring the risk of getting osteoporosis, and becoming infertile. How can I do this to myself? I started to eat really hearty meals--egg omelets for breakfast, nice big sandwiches for lunch etc. I was really non-fat oriented for the previous months, and I realized fat was needed to bring my period back, so I added some more olive oil, whole eggs to my diet. Plus the occasional muffin, tons of chocolate, and more!

A little tummy is not going to make you fat. Being fat is not the main concern, it's your health and your life that is at stake! Please let that be the priority. Learn to appreciate food as something that will revive and protect you.

Good luck!

YES! I MUST HAVE SWEETS EVERYDAY!

Though sweets, of course, are not healthy, it's perfectly fine to have them in moderation! I have a little chocolate (and dark chocolate is healthy with tons of antioxidants!), some frozen yogurt, or the occasional monster cookie, ice cream cone, brownie, etc. that comes along.

I also eat mini muffins everyday. Maybe it's not so good to eat so many of these at once, haha.
