The Lounge Does your pet have a weird habit? Sep 03 2009

My cat loves to knock things off my dresser onto the floor when I'm trying to sleep. She'll also bite my toes if I move them around too much while she's on my bed. But if I kick her out of the room she meows outside the door which is even more annoying.

She is a big scaredy cat. There's certain things she's always afraid of (plastic bags, running water) but then there are other things that she'll suddenly become terrified of for like a week and then get over it. Some recent examples have been the crack between the couch cushions and doorways. She would sit in front of the doorway for a long time working up the courage and then run into the other room as fast as she could.

I'm sure there are some dairy free recipes out there for things like waffles, pancakes and muffins. Also I agree that you should try some of the many other milk alternatives besides soy.

At my largest measurements (37-31-41) my waist was 83% of my chest, and my hips were 111% of chest which means I was a definite pear.

Now at 35.5-28-38 my waist is 79% of my chest and my hips are 107% of my chest. My waist is 74% of my chest. So that means I'm now in between an hourglass and a pear. Yay, I'm becoming more proportionate! Although if thigh measurements counted I think that might put me back into pear territory. My thighs are the same size they were 15 pounds ago but the rest of me has gotten smaller, which makes them look even bigger in comparison Frown

Weight Loss How often do you eat ice cream? Aug 30 2009

I also eat ice cream a few times a week. I'm eating some right now- Breyer's Dark Chocolate Velvet. I don't feel guilty about eating ice cream. 1 cup has 260 calories which I don't think is that bad. I could eat it every day and still have over 400 calories for each meal and stay under my limit. I can't stand fat free ice cream and it usually has more sugar.

Weight Loss Er, is this going too fast/this is too easy? :[ Aug 28 2009

I think most peope lose quickly at first. I went from 150 to 145 my first week. Now when I eat the same number of calories I only lose about 1 pound a week. I can't lower my calories any more since I'm already at 1500 so I have to add more exercise if I want to lose any faster.

Fitness I lift weights but my arms are getting flabbier Aug 24 2009

Thanks for the tips. You're right, I do bicep curls and tricep kickbacks. I can't do lat pulldowns, but I'll try adding in chest press and rows too. And I'll look for some 20 pound dumbbells. I had to go to 3 stores to find the 15's. Hopefully that will help, I'm too young for grandma arms! And if it is loose skin hopefully it will tighten up some on it's own and I'll be able to fill the rest up with some muscle.

The percentages are the amount of calories from each nutrient, not the grams. Fat has more calories per gram than protein or carbohydrates do.

I'm not actually measuring it. I just look at them and they look worse. And when I wave my hand the bottom of my arm flaps around which didn't used to happen.

Maybe it is partially loose skin, but it still has some fat in there. It's not just a  thin layer of empty skin. And I'm 19 and I've only lost 25 pounds so I wouldn't expect to have loose skin.

I'm only using 15 pounds but they feel heavy to me. I can do about 10-12 reps now but when I started with them I could only do 6-8 and that's when I was seeing results. So maybe that's the problem.

The Lounge why are some people so ugly? Aug 23 2009

I'm 19 but I get mistaken for a 14 year old when I have no makeup on. When I went to get my hair done for prom the hairdresser thought I was going to my grade 8 graduation. But then once in the summer between grade 9 and 10 someone asked me if I was going into university. So maybe people just suck at judging ages.

Weight Loss So, apparently I am what they call "skinny-fat" Aug 23 2009

I'm kinda surprised people have never heard of this/ don't believe in it/ disagree with it.

I never knew what to call it until recently, but my mom has always been skinny-fat. She looks really skinny when she's wearing clothes. But she's never exercised in her life and has very little muscle so when you see her in a bathing suit she's actually pretty flabby and has little rolls of back fat. I'm trying to convince her to start lifting weights. I don't care what she looks like, but she complains about her back fat but refuses to exercise which gets annoying. She says she'd much rather just eat less than exercise, but that would just make her underweight and less healthy and probably still flabby.

I'm sitting at home alone right now wearing mascara, eyeliner and lipgloss and I'm not planning on leaving the house or seeing anyone else all day. It's just part of my morning routine. I still brush my hair and get dressed whether I'll be alone or not, and to me makeup is the same kind of thing. I feel more put together and like I'm ready for the day.

Weight Loss BMI classifications--I see some difference? Aug 22 2009

It seems odd that CC would go against the WHO. But does it really matter whether you are overweight or obese? You are exactly the same now as you were before you found out this information. If you are losing weight than you are already doing all you can do. Try not to let the label affect how you feel about yourself.

Weight Loss understanding calories or calories from fat Aug 22 2009

A calorie is a calorie. As far as losing weight goes it doesn't matter whether your calories come from carbs, protein, or fat.

Weight Loss How much weight do you lose using this sight? Aug 22 2009
20:03 (UTC)

It depends on how many calories you burn. If you burn 500 more calories a day than you eat you will lose 1 pound a week. If you burn 1000 more calories a day than you eat it will be 2 pounds. 1 pound is 3500 calories.

Foods Calories in a High Tea? Aug 22 2009
19:58 (UTC)

There's really no way of knowing ahead of time because there's a huge variety of foods that could be served and it will depend on how much you eat.

You could keep track of what you eat and log it afterwards, but even that won't be very accurate. Sometimes there's just no way of knowing the calorie count and all you can do is try to eat sensibly.

I don't think it means her daughter was looking up anything diet related. Ever since I got facebook a few years ago almost all my ads have been for weight loss or dating sites. And I only started trying to lose weight about 6 months ago so it wasn't because I was looking at anything related to weight loss online. I think they do target teenage girls.

I've never looked at H&M jeans. I'll remember to check them out when I go shopping in a couple months. I'm trying not to buy any clothes until I reach my goal weight, but it's getting kind of hard. Luckily it's summer because all my jeans are at least 2 sizes too big and fall off.

Weight Loss where do you usually lose weight first? Aug 15 2009
06:43 (UTC)
24

When I first starting losing weight most of it came from my butt. Then it moved to my stomach. Right now it seems to be coming off my chest. It definitely didn't come off my limbs. My thighs are the same size as they were 15 pounds ago. They feel a lot firmer though so I think I lost some fat and gained some muscle there.

Weight Loss If you have lost a lot of weight, how do new people react when they find out that you used to be obese? Aug 15 2009
02:02 (UTC)

My friend was overweight, not obese, but she lost weight after high school. I was at her house and so was a new friend of hers that she met after her weight loss. The new friend saw a class picture from high school and said "Who's this little chunker, your cousin?" and my friend was like "No, that was me a few years ago." The girl was really embarrassed but my friend just laughed and seem to take it more as a compliment to how she looks now than an insult to how she looked then.

Like other people have said, I don't think it's something you really need to bring up with new people. But if someone becomes a friend there's a pretty good chance the subject will come up unless you're purposely trying to hide it. And if they're already your friend I assume that means they're nice and would probably just congratulate you on your weight loss.

What do you mean when you say you tried to reduce your calories with no success? Did you not succeed at reducing your calories, or did you reduce your calories but still not lost weight?

I don't know the details of this fast, but I do know fasting will not help you to lose weight long term. December is still a long ways away, you have plenty of time to lose weight healthily before then.
