I know this sounds bad, but I don't "feel" thin. I do have thyroid issues and I swear when I step on that scale it is a pound heavier every morning. I am now 103.5. I don't get it! I have slowed down on the exercise this week and started consuming around 1500 calories a day. I am so tired all the time and just feel out of it. I haven't had my period yet and this Friday will be 8 weeks since the MC. |

Thanks chrissy1988....for that link. Do you think I am moderate or very active? I know I am not extra active. I don't necessarily want to lose as much as I want to tone and get rid of some of this sudden belly fat and start of love handles. I used to look like you (looked at your pics). I just feel so flabby..... I thought if I consumed about 1200-1300 cals I could still stay at the leve without "starvation" but cut some of this flab too...

I wish we had that in the US, but we don't. This has been going on since last Wednesday...so not too long. Tonight, she clearly had to go when I was running her bath. My hubby and I held her over the toilet (as much as we know we shouldn't have forced it), she peed!!!! She says, "it doesn't hurt!" We made a huge to do about it...so hopefully, she will go on the potty tomorrow. If not, I will just try to do what you said...and not force the issue. I just wanted her to see/feel for herself that it doesn't hurt! Mom learned her lesson, NEVER clean you girl's privates out over the toilet...I will definately be calling the doc this week to get some advice about this.... |

Wow...this describes me to a T. I must say, I completely relate to what you are going through...I am 27, just about finished my degree (that I have worked so hard on) and was eager to start looking to establish myself in a career. I have had "positions" up to this point, but nothing worth saying it was an actual career. I actually started looking UNTIL I found out I was pregnant. My daughter is 2 years 7 months and my husband and I both entertained the idea of having a baby once I FINISHED my degree. But like you, I started really getting the itch and thought, well, what's the point of establishing myself in a career only to leave the company shortly after I become pregnant. Let's be honest, a pregnant woman on the job isn't viewed as equal...there's always the question of whether she will return, and so on. I know myself, that I would not feel right taking a position, only to announce a few short months afterwards that I was pregnant (that's even if I wasn't pregnant right now). I would want to give it a few years to establish myself and earn the employers respect and trust before I got pregnant. So, I guess what I am saying is, do what feels right. If you think holding off and finding a teaching position is best for you until the little one is born and you have time to spend with him/her (and there are no financial repercussions) then do so. You could always volunteer or substitute if need be. If you feel waiting, getting yourself into a district for two years or so, and then try, that would put your daughter about 5 years apart. I know everyone always tells me work will always be there...to enjoy motherhood now while we are "young." But then, there is a pressure that I put on myself to achieve the American Dream of having a great position somewhere and I feel like I can't have my cake and eat it too... But I guess my decision has already been made for me...I am living/happy with the fact that my children won't be too far apart, I will have my kids (and essentially get it 'out of the way') and proceed with a career (even though it is late in the game) while my kids are in school. HTH, Lindsay |

Meghansmommy--did your OB give you the go ahead for the B6? I have read about this combination on the internet and didn't know if I should ask my OB first. But then again, I am not getting enough nutrients as it is and B6 is a water soluble vitamin. I will have to try this... |

I appreciate every one of your replies. I guess I should have added that I was a SAHM and still technically am (minus being in college part-time). Sophia is 2 1/2 and I didn't actually go back to campus until this semester. I am a member of two mommy groups, have Sophia in activities (reading, gymnastics) and volunteer. I still feel like I am missing something though...hence my reason to go back to school. Before we got pg with our second (only a few weeks ago), I started applying for jobs...and was actually very excited and motivated about this. I only wanted a part-time job...that's all I could handle with school. Sophia LOVES LOVES being with other kids! She thrives when she is around them...and I almost feel like I am cheating her out if I don't put her in care for that little amount of time. Then again, preschool is just as good (just not as long of a day). But as soon as I found out we were expecting I started to change my mind again. Maybe I could just stay in school and be an active SAHM. The last thing I want is to be home here worrying about work, or be at work and worry about my children. It's bad enough when I have to do my homework and feel like that is all I am thinking about when I am spending time with Sophia. SO my point is...I guess I will figure out what is best for me. I know in my heart I couldn't drop my infant off at a daycare (I have no family to watch her). But I also know that I need to find more of a balance for me....even if I am in mommies groups, volunteering, etc. It's just hard when I know I want to be there for my children, but also work and feel like I am fulfilling my dream too....not that being a mom isn't....but you know what I mean :) |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | allergic to folic acid? | May 02 2009 12:21 (UTC) |

Okay...so I called the doc and she said that as long as I have a good diet, I shouldn't need any prenatals...ummm...that seems odd to me, but okay. I checked my cheerios box and sure enough 1 serving offers 50% of my DV of folic acid. So 2 servings of that, and I have 400 mcgs. That makes me feel a little better... I can take Gummy Vites...the all natural Lil' Critters brand. So I am just going to take those I think and make sure I am getting some good food in my diet to make up for what is lacking in those vites.

That's what I was thinking Bier! Here are the ingredients... Dicalcium Phosphate, Cellulose, Maltodextrin, Croscarmellose, Vegetable Stearic Acid, Vegetable Magnesium , Silica. These seem pretty common to me. Croscarmellose is from a sulfuric family, and I have had problems with sulfur in the past. My other thought was the fact that I had don't have the majority of my colon. Maybe the absorption is causing this. Either way, don't you think it is important to find a vitamin with more Folic Acid???? I have to find something that doesn't have these additive I guess? Fifth Disease...I will look this up...sounds interesting. |

Thanks... I've tried the panties for a few days and she just pees right through them...then stands there uncomfortable. She started telling me she had to pee but just would NEVER go on the potty. As soon as we would pull her undies up, she'd leave the room and pee. Same with poop! So I guess she does care, but doesn't care that she is wet... I tried the diaperless day too...not pretty.

Awesome advice everyone! I do have about 6 DVD's from my last pregnancy, only one or two really worked/made me break a sweat. Good point about doing it while I can! In fact as I was running today I thought...might not be able to do this much longer...I anticipate the runs to turn into a brisk walk. I was active with my first, but didn't exercise before and during like I have/will with this one. But the good thing was, I did stay active enough to have a quick pregnancy. For my first, I pushed her out in 20 minutes and I was done. I lost my plug and the next thing you know (4 hours later) I had her. I fear how quick this one will be! I had morning sickness really bad from 6-8 weeks and lost some weight. I am on the cusp of 99/100 lbs. If I do have that again, I am afraid I might lose too much. I fully intend to take advantage of some meds this time around to stave off the vomitting...absolutely the WORST!

You can rest assure that I am definately finding a new doc come monday! I didn't do what he said b/c I KNOW what can happen if you go off. This just proved to me that I can't trust him any longer. About the pulsating..it has subsided a little. The thing is...it isn't the aorta/pulse you all are thinking off. I know what that feels like and do feel it and see it, especially when I lay down... BUT this is like a kicking! It is not the rhythm of the aortic pulse. It is very strange. I will be seeking a second opinion tomorrow on this. |

I've been border line of both hyper and hypo and actually just had blood drawn Friday to see if things are with in normal range. Though I don't have any advice, I can say I commend you for getting up everyday and conquering work and dealing with health issues. I know how hard it can be and it is amazing how co-workers (and your boss) can inadvertently make you feel more stress. You will get this figured out... Hang in there...you are a tough cookie :) |

| Health & Support | Barium Meal? | Mar 29 2009 14:07 (UTC) |

It doesn't sound like you will be eating the radioactive eggs. The barium SB follow-thru is where you have to drink the barium and this can be pretty nauseating. The test is painless, minus drinking the barium. The doctor will x-ray you has you drink the barium and may give you something to swallow that causes gas bubbles (this made me vomit). After that, you will drink the rest of the barium and they will take pictures about every 15 minutes to 30 minutes until it reaches your large intestine. This is really all depending on how fast your body digests food...hence the reason your having the test. Mine took 4 hours, some people are quicker, some are as slow as 6 hours. Good luck...post your results :) |

If only I had known of those treatments when I was going through it!!! Mel...could you tell me how octriotide helps you have a bowel movement if the injection inhibits the secretion of many hormones, gastrin included? I've read it decreases GI motility...but you say it allows you to have a bm the next morning??? My GES showed severe delay as well as my Stitz Marker...hence my surgeons (and my) decision to remove my colon...I am thankful I had this done now, and my gastroparesis has since been relieved. lagirl...I agree with Mel that you need to find a specialist that knows about these conditions...where I lived, there was NONE...and I needed to travel, but it was soooo worth it!! I suffered from gastroparesis...I know EXACTLY what you are going through. I strongly believe if you get this fixed, everything else will get better. Please go to the yahoo groups/support forum...they will help you so much! Here is another website http://www.monkeygirl.atfreeweb.com/gastrolin ks.htm Monkeygirl is on the same forum I am talking about...and the link is on this website. Have you tried Reglan or domperidone???? I couldn't handle the drugs...but some people do just fine. Good luck and I am here if you need to talk...it is a HORRIBLE thing to deal with.

I have experience with antidepressants as well. Although I do not have a history of substance abuse, I find my "addictive" personality in other forms...like previously smoking a pack a day, etc. I was on paxil for a few years. I just recently switched b/c I found it was not working. It took me to reach rock bottom to change and now I am SOOO happy I did. I am on Lexapro and love it so far. I tried Wellbutrin and Effexor and HATED it. Paxil did make me put on some weight...which I despised. I have OCD tendencies, history of ED, mild form of body dismorphia, etc. AS a result of my chronic constipation and subsequent use of laxatives and enemas, I killed my colon and had to have a sub-total colectomy. I now go to the bathroom everyday, but I still OBSESS about going. In other words, what I am getting at is, Lexapro is great...don't be scared about addiction, I don't feel this med is in that category. HTH....HUGS |

I have the SAME exact issue. I was on paxil for a while and it stopped working, all I wanted to do was sleep...plus Paxil is known for weight gain...the last thing you and I need. I just switched to Lexapro...after two other medications that I couldn't stand (Wellbutrin and Effexor). So far so good... I will tell you though, I am seeking out a specialist. Not that I don't trust my primary care doc, I just don't think he is versed enough with these issues. If you need to talk, I am here. Lindsay |

My doc perscribed Wellbutrin and this morning was the first time taking it. I am having chest tightness and he warned me this is a symptom....one that warrants going off the medicine... Is it possible I would experience this already? I am freaking out (my ED talking) about gaining weight if he puts me on something else! It seems that ALL other SSRI's I've researched cause weight gain! I am so depressed about this....I just wish my body image didnt' control me so much. But who wants to gain weight, especially if all their hard work isn't paying off. What do you all think I should do? I hate to be a ginue pig and try all this meds, but I have no choice other than to go off the meds and I am not sure well I would handle things then. |
