| Thanks coachdee, as always I have enjoyed reading your post. Now, if I could only stay "moderate" as far as cheating goes... I always tend to go to extremes, whether it be eating or cheating - lol. | |||

| Congrats on your baby girl.
Birth control pills are commonly blamed for weight gain, but they don't necessarily cause you to gain weight. Rather, the hormonal changes caused by the pill can increase your appetite. In other words, you might have to work harder on surpressing your hunger... |

| My son started solids at the end of November and by the end of February I had gained 10 lbs. So, I agree that your plateau might have something to do with the fact that your baby is on solids now. If I remember correctly, the recommended extra calorie allowance for nursing moms is between 200-500 calories per day. I guess we are on the lower end of that allowance now ;-) | |||

| Hi Natasha,
Sorry you are so upset but I can understand your frustration. Please don't beat yourself up and just remember that there is no way that you could have gained actual weight over night. It sounds like water retention. I read your diet log and see that you had a lot of salt as well as a frozen dinner which adds even more salt. Also, it could be that you are approaching your period-I always gain tons of weight around that time of the month but then it disappears ... just wait until tomorrow and see what the numbers say. Sounds like you are doing everything right. Hang in there! Nuran |

| lose2win, congrats on your baby and your weight loss so far. Your baby boy is big! My 9-month old is barely 19lbs :-) I added you as a friend.
Natasha, my original plan was to wean him at 9 months but he never liked formula so I plan to go the full year and wean him around his b-day in July. He just started to sleep through the night last week and nurses four times a day and eats solids for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Until last week he was nursing at nights too (2-3 times per night) but it seems like he makes up for the missed night feedings during the day now. PS: sorry I missed your IM this morning ;-) |

| just_bethy,
LOL, when I have friends visiting from Germany and we go out to a restaurant they get shocked at the "eat and get the heck outta here" treatment... :-) The good thing is that my husband and I have always sat at the table to have our dinner. Now we have a 9-month old and I will make sure he will grow up eating at the dinner table. I think it is a very good thing for children to grow up like that - good for you for making your family sit down to eat! |

| lacirrom, that is pretty much what I have been doing, too. I'm trying not to be too obsessed with the weight loss, but I didn't expect to lose this fast either. I was just worried that I would harm my baby if I lost too fast. When did your daughter turn 1 and what is her name? How is the transitioning to cow's milk going? I still have a few months before I wean my son, but it is always good to hear about other moms' experiences .. Thanks for your reply and good luck with the weight loss. | |||

| Very good post, LR! My parents are Turkish but I spent most of my life in Germany. Eating out in America is really not about having fun and socializing, but more like "assembly line eating" as I like to call it. You walk into a restaurant, order, get your meal, eat, pay (the bill comes while you're still eating?!?!) and you leave. WTH? I truly have lost pleasure in eating out since I've moved to America a little over four years ago. In Europe it is not unusual to walk into a restaurant and occupy a table for 2-3 hours, eat, chat and have fun. It's not about the food but the company. I guess what I'm trying to say is that when it comes to food quantity counts more than quality here in the States. I have unfortunately inherited my moms fat genes and will probably always tend to gain weight easily. Turkish cooking is not the most calorie friendly kind, but I think Turks as well as Europeans tend to move more on a day to day basis (as someone posted earlier). Hubby and I moved from Florida to N.Va a few months ago and I was so excited that they have a metro system here. However, my enthusiasm quickly faded when I realized that I STILL have to drive to the closest metro station. When I was new in this country, I'd only eat until I was full and would always ask for a doggy bag. But after a few months I started to polish off what was on my plate. Portion sizes are insanely huge-I guess your body just gets used to eating so much food. So, to answer your question, I definitely adapted to the American way of eating. |

| Thanks for the input, cheatingirl. I only started to count the calories after I saw that Weight Watchers offers a program for nursing moms. I figured that if I ate healthfully and added about 300-500 extra calories to my daily allowance then I would be fine. I have been gaining weight steadily since my baby has been on solids which indicates that I really don't burn the extra 500 calories a day that I used to. I think nowadays it is more like 200-300 since my son is not nursing as much. Does that make sense? Anyway, I think you are right, though, I will up my caloric intake by a few hundred cals and see how it goes. | |||
