Weight Loss Opposite vent: compliments you don't quite know what to do with Dec 11 2009

My response to these folks is and has been that it was just tough for me at the very beginning.  The first 90 days to me was the most difficult because I was changing behaviors and even the way I thought (thinking more positively about being able to get back to a healthy weight, eating right, etc.) and that took effort.

Most people appreciate that bit of information and I see the wheels turning as they're mulling that over. :)

And, you're right, JP507139. Planning is a big part of this.  If you don't have some sort of plan for success, you will not do what you need to do to succeed.

I also share with folks that I don't eat foods I don't like. That usually surprises them - they must think most of what I eat tastes like cardboard or something...lol.

Enjoy!

As long as you are budgeting it in, you're good to go.  You have to include some indulgences or you won't be able to stick with this long term!!

Good luck!

Like Pbear999 said, it's all about how many calories you eat vs how many calories you burn (just by living and with exercise)!

I exercise regularly 3 - 4 times a week and feel so much better for it.  I just make sure that I'm eating less calories than I'm taking in.

Remember to lose a pound, you have to deficit a total of 3,500 calories.  If you do that in a week, then you should lose a pound a week!

Good luck and EXERCISE - it's good for you!! Cool

Weight Gain Do I really need to gain weight?? Aug 29 2009

You probably do need to gain some weight.  Try drinking some protein shakes - that way, you gain lean muscle mass.  That always look fantastic!

I make a very tasty protein shake as follows:

Blend together:

1/3 of 12 oz glass of crushed ice

1 ripe banana

1 scoop of Syntrax Nectar Protein (I love the Carribean Cooler flavor, but they all tast very good)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 Splenda or 2 pkgs sugar

A lot of guys have trouble gaining weight when they're your age - you have to work at it!

Good luck and keep on keeping on! Cool

Yep. Your weight will fluctuate from day to day - it doesn't go straight down...I weigh every day and can tell you that from experience.

In addition, if you're doing weights at the gym, you may start to gain some muscle and that may cause your weight to go up or slow down, but that's totally OK since muscle is more compact oz per oz than fat - will help improve your body.

Stick with the plan, but make sure that if you are working out, that you are getting enough protein. I just started using Nectar, a 90 calorie, 0 sugar, 0 fat protein supplement right after my workouts - when my muscles really need it. It tastes good, kills your appetite, helps your muscles recover and build after a workout.  If you are working out and not getting the protein you need, you will ache all over...

Good luck! You can do it!!

Hey - quite an accomplishment over the past year. You have a LOT to be proud of!

The binging might be related to not getting enough of something - possibly iron and protein.  Sometimes when we binge, it's that we're looking to get some sort of nutrient we need.

For me, it's been about getting enough good protein in my diet.  I went out and got me some good whey protein and after I biked this morning, had me a shake.  Incredible how good I felt getting that nutrition aftern the exercise (btw, I only biked about 25 minutes) AND it stopped my hunger in its tracks!!

Try it out and see if it doesn't help you control your cravings!!

Good luck - you've come a long way and should definitely take the time to remind yourself of your accomplishments and give yourself a hearty pat on the back! Cool

Health & Support What went wrong.. im feeling tired after exercising Jul 25 2009

Tingling may be caused by several conditions. Pinched nerve sounds reasonable, but *I'm* no doctor.  Recommend you go see your doctor and make sure that you write down all your symptoms and carry them with you so that your doc has all the information to make a proper diagnosis or recommend you for appropriate further tests.

Good luck!!

Weight Loss Need Help Controlling Binge Eating! Jun 25 2009

Here's what I do - maybe you can use some of these tips, although I suspect you're already doing some of these things!

I take my vitamin supplements every day so that I'm not craving certain foods due to a nutritional deficiency.

I absolutely DO NOT eat anything that I don't like - I generally go for foods that provide me with the FLAVOR/TASTE I crave! :-)

I always eat something for breakfast - usually egg whites. My big meal is at lunch and so I'm left with less calories to work with in the evening.

If I'm starting to feel a little hungry before I leave for work, I eat a 100 calorie pack of almonds - healthy and very satisfying.

Anyhow, when I get home, I'm not nearly as hungry.  I go for foods that satisfy - example - two cups of strawberries with Splenda and some fat free Reddi Whip - very yummy! 94% Fat Free Popcorn - 3 or 4 cups - and finally some Yoplait Light Yogurt - get protein and calcium and they have some new, really delicious flavors out there.  If you're feeling full because of the foods you're eating, you're less likely to binge.

There are times when I want something sweet that's not exactly healthy and I don't deprive myself, BUT I will serve myself a reasonable portion (~150 calorie serving or so) and budget it in.  I figure a little taste of something won't hurt - and it keeps us from feeling that we're deprived.

After I get my food, I go to my room - if the kitchen is in sight, I'm thinking about what's in there! ;-)

Hey, Crimsonsunxx!

I'm SORRY. Sorry that people can be so insensitive. Not everyone is like that. Hang with the good friends that you have and hang tough!

You're a smart girl - obvious from your post.  Sounds like you were dealt some bad cards, but you don't have to have a bad, end result of that. Your destiny and who YOU are, is decided by YOU - no one else!

That said, go easy - people are just people and some have more sense than others!

Stay strong!

Hugs,

Linda

Foods Am I doing something wrong? Jun 01 2009

You should get a small amount of oil - like olive oil, for example. A tablespoon is about 120 calories. Your body has to have some small amount of it every day in order to function properly.

"good fats—monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats—lower disease risk."

Work it into your cooking or salad - it will bring your calories up some.

Avocados have good fats as well and they are extremely healthy. They are about 235 calories for one cup.

Good luck!

The exercise will definitely help you.  How many calories are you taking in on your day off?  You can always keep your metabolism up by exercising.  Just standing versus sitting doubles the calories you burn!

Good luck!
