You don't really know what the pediatrician said so I wouldn't get into a argument with the mother. My oldest son has been battling his weight since he was very young and the pediatrician told us to increase his exercise and try to limit snacks. The idea was to have him grow into his weight not lose weight. Losing weight can be a bad idea for kids who are only a few pounds over average. I would just tsk tsk the mother when she gets down on herself image and be a great auntie and take the daughter out for some serious soccer matches or basketball games. Hula hoop is great or jump rope or take her hiking! Summer is here kids should be on the move. She wont even know she is exercising just having fun |

You can wait until your sure. You won't explode. I repeat you won't explode! And neither will he. If the threat of potential death isnt enough to hold you off then nothing we say in CC is going to do it. Be logical 2 months is not that long a time. Find another outlet. |

Your dog is of husky parentage and needs lots of exercise. Do not let the mini label mislead you. I would suggest 2 hours of exercise a day. Not just meandering about but a sustained walk. No sniffing no stopping. He is still a pup so perhaps 15 minutes of sustained walking. 15 minutes of running play at a time. 1 hour in the morning 1 in the evening. It can be discouraging but dont despair. If you find he is more than you bargained for I advise that you swallow your pride and your embarassment and call the breeder or a rescue organization and they will find another home for him. There are other breeds that may be more suited to your lifestyle. Bulldogs are great. They are macho but dont need a lot of exercise. Very loving. Great for a guys self esteem but not a lot of work. There is no shame in knowing your limits. Best of Luck and watch the Dog Whisperer or borrow the CDS from the library they may help. Exercise and discipline are key to a happy dog and happy owner! |

| Weight Loss | The somewhat minor annoyances of being overweight -- what are yours? | May 25 2009 06:12 (UTC) |

All of your annoyances are familiar to me in one way or another. I can't stand that I have to fight to tie my shoes or give myself a pedicure. Rolls in the way! The clothes! They have such beautiful things in the regular sizes and so little to choose from in big sizes. Or you get the waist size you need but the legs are so baggy you look ridiculous. For all those suffering from chub rub did you know you can buy chafing stick at most sporting goods stores. My son has used it and he says it works. |

| The Lounge | is it rude that I dont want to talk to people at the gym | May 20 2009 05:09 (UTC) |

Do not smile or converse with him. People like this count on you to be polite and will take advantage of you. Nod but do not make eye contact and keep your headphones on. If he doesnt take the hint. You will have to say bluntly but not meanly, Im just here to work out, Im not looking for a boyfried. He will get flustered and leave you alone. If not talk to the management. Yeah He probably wont like you anymore. Do not be afraid to be disliked. You dont like him do you? You might want to mention it to some of the other women in the gym. You can find out if they have had similar experiences and I find that women will look out for each other in these situations. Good Luck |

Keep going MWake. It will change. You may want to look into facial exercises. The theory is that you have facial muscles, too. The more they are worked the more taught your face. Some people do this in lieu of plastic surgery. Ive tried this in the past and it does work. If you combine this with weight loss you'll see the results in 4-6 weeks. I cant remember the name of the book but I'm sure if you Google facial exercises there should be a few available. About the mirror. Only look in the one you use to shave for a few weeks and then peek. Im sure you'll hear from people that you look great before you see it yourself. Hang in there. We are all fighting the fight. |

Make Huevos Rancheros: You can make scrambled eggs, fried eggs (in Pam of course or a tsp of olive oil) or an omellete. 1oz of whatever cheese you like some black beans(my choice) and salsa. SO Good. So flavorful. You can add a corn tortilla baked in the oven til crispy (another tsp of olive oil wiped on both sides} I dont know how many calories you are on but you can adjust up or down as you need but this can be delicious, healthy, lo cal breakfast. Try it you'll like it. |

| Weight Loss | Foolproof way to stop eating when you're full and there's a plate in front of you! | Mar 30 2009 07:52 (UTC) |

Yeah, I don't know how you would police them. I just worry about members who will buy into the rhetoric and unsound advice. Not to mention the emotional damage these people cause. Overeating is not just about willpower and logic. Food = love in most cultures and when there's not enough love, self or otherwise we turn to food. I don't believe in beating someone up because they need to find a new support system and I dont believe that people who overeat are ignorant of the relationship they have with food. If you dont believe in counting calories what are you doing on this site? If your a medical doctor identify your self as such and get on the panel. |

Try drinking metamucil 1 to 2x a day and getting a brisk walk daily. Drink at least 4 glasses of water a day. Exercise helps keep you regular and will ease your anxiety as well. Your appetite will be more regulated as well. A lot of people swear by the yogurt Activia as well |

Do you really HATE them? Or are you just annoyed by them? Sometimes it sounds like people are spewing but its just because its typed and you cant hear the intonation. Try reading with with another tone in your head. I typed that nicely by the way and I kept it short just for you. |

Special Occasions? Like the weekend? Friday? LOL Best thing eat light and get a good walk in the next day. Drink some metamucil to get things moving and you'll feel ok in 24 hours. Try to binge like this very infrequently. Actually a whole Pizza in one sitting? Were you smoking pot? You'll lose weight if you stop. When people use pot or drink your control goes right out the window. Not to mention your brain cells. |

I work in healthcare facility and see this situation all the time. I think, from what Ive seen, the earlier you cut them off the better. A minor you must continue to support with basic supplies, housing, counseling etc but once they are an adult it should stop. Ive seen families lives revolve around a childs addiction and it ruins them. |

Another thing to keep in mind is that you lost over 3lbs the first week. That is 3 lbs less your carrying around. It is a workout for your body to carry weight around. As you lose your structural load is lessened so you need to increase your burn and or decrease calories as you go. Better to add exercise your already on a low calorie diet. Good luck your doing very well. |

thanks for your response. It sounds like he has a great schedule worked out. I need to become more disciplined when I get home at 7:30am and after walking the dog I must go to bed by 8am to be up by 3pm when my son gets home from school. Sometimes its hard to unwind before hitting the sheets. But at my age (48) I need sleep. Lack of affects everything. Thanks again |

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I will take your ideas to heart and try to make some changes. Not getting enough sleep is definitely my biggest challenge. I like to be awake around 3pm when my 15 year old son gets home. I know he's old enough to be alone and he is a great kid but I worry anyway. 8-4pm would be great but I need that unwind time when I get home at 7:30am and I must walk the poor dog. I'll work on it and check out the Moondrops. |

| Health & Support | Perimenopausal? Is it affecting your weight and your mind? | Mar 17 2009 08:54 (UTC) |
|
Thanks everybody! What a great response. Ive had the hot flashes they seem to have dissipated somewhat. They lasted about 6 months so I guess I'm lucky! I have heard that some people suffer for years. Ugh. I think the perimenopause symptoms started 5 years ago but my doctor chalked it up to anxiety. They have a model they use and if you dont fit into it then its something else. I had bouts of low level nauseau off and on for months and my doctor seemed stumped. I now find out that many women complain of nausea during this time. Hello! You get nauseous when your hormones are going wild during pregnancy! Doesnt it make sense that a drop in hormones may cause the same symptoms. I never had the HCG test but you know your body and it is showing you whats up well before any test can tell. I also find that I have bouts of fuzzy thinking or fogginess. I cant grasp the right word at the right time and cant concentrate as well as used to. Another issue is my intolerance for my family's helpless behavior. You know, cant find their own belongings, cant make their own lunch, expect you to be interested in what they are saying doing all the time. I guess my Mommy setting is off the station. Instead of getting help with everything they get an I dont know and a blank stare. Sounds horrible. My kids are 15 and 19. I dont want you to think i'm Mommie Dearest. Oh my what a rant. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for posting. Were you eating out of boredom or was it just the whole world upside down thing? A co-worker went on the day shift a month ago and has lost 10 pounds. So working nights can screw you up. |
