Original Post by gpat919: Good advice. For those that like the taste of coffee, you can even make smoothies with a little coffee in it. A guy I work with is forever making coffee flavored smoothies and adds Fibersure to them as well as peanut butter and/or bananas or occasion. I'm one of the people that don't really get much from drinking coffee but I do like the flavor and the natural laxative is beneficial too. |

All of this advice seems pretty logical to me. However, I wanted to add something different. You really should do whatever you can to fix this issue. When my hubby and I were first married, I took the Depo Provera shot. It totally demolished my libido and turned a healthy, sexual relationship into more of a mutual friendship. The issue with me was an imbalance in my hormones due to the shot. My husband and I are still happily married and I am long gone from the shot and now have my tubes tied. It took over a year and a half for my body to totally rid itself of the effects of the shot. Our sexual relationship is good now but never went quite back to the way it was. Obviously long relationships will do that too but there were so many days that I pushed his advances aside, even got angry with him for them, that one day he just stopped trying as hard. It's a terrible feeling to have someone so attracted to you one day and completely disinterested the next. We were both going through those same feelings and it was all on account of me. Anyway, if you love your BF and intend to have a long life with him, do what you can to stop the problem now before it causes issues between the 2 of you and hurts both your feelings. Your low weight and/or lack of substantial calories could be causing a chemical imbalance in you as well. |

Sometimes if I get hungry a little while after breakfast, I'll drink a small cup of coffee. The calories are low and it'll keep me from being hungry for a few hours. It's sort of like a diet pill for me. :) |

| Foods | How bad is sweet tea? | Jul 01 2009 17:51 (UTC) |

I'm a Mississippi girl and here we just add a little tea to our sugar. As for the honey idea, I'm not sure that's going to work for you. I love hot tea in the winter and I add honey and lemon to it but the honey isn't quite sweet enough. I usually have to add a tsp or so of sugar to it as well. I don't think you're going to get that toothache sweet flavor with honey but your taste buds could be different from mine. I suggest just trying to lower the amount of sugar you use (assuming you make the stuff yourself) little by little. Make your tea with, say, 1/4 c less sugar and see how that does you. If that's ok, maybe after awhile try to take out another 1/4 c. Either way, as long as your within your calories, I don't see why that would make a substantial difference in your weight. |

| Weight Loss | I just feel disgusting. | Jun 18 2009 17:41 (UTC) |

You are preaching to the choir, honey! I feel exactly the same way! I've been doing awesome for like a month now but last weekend and this week, I just don't have it in me. I get home and feel so exhausted I don't workout. If I do workout, it takes so much out of me, like it's day 1 again. I just can't understand it. I got home from work totally planning to do my workout yesterday afternoon. I even had the house to myself for once. What did I do? I ate 6 pizza rolls, drank a Pepsi, and flopped on the bed with a book. As far as the bloating goes, I feel you. I feel so yuck when I'm bloated, like I'm the fattest, greasiest person to walk the Earth. A lot of times it has to do with PMS and it goes away after a few days. Other times, it's because I ate a big fat juicy steak that didn't digest well. I also get really bloated after I take a pain killer, like a Lortab or something. That actually does it to me the worst. I'll be bloated for a week straight. I feel bad when I shrug off exercising but if you attempt to keep your calories below or right at what you burn, you at least won't gain anything. Granted, you won't be losing anything either but it's better than being a pound heavier the next day. If your bloating is due to any of the issues I gave, it will go away after a few days, maybe a week. You'll be ok. Don't be disgusted with yourself. You probably feel worse than you actually look. Just try to keep your eating in check as best you can and if you can't get yourself to workout, maybe you could take a walk around the block after dinner or something. At least then you'll feel like you're doing someting towards your weigh-loss goal. |

| Fitness | Nausea post workout | Jun 11 2009 15:07 (UTC) |
|
Maybe your body just isn't used to the shock of working out yet. You said you were fairly new to fitness, right? My kids' elementary school used to do something called Active Family Night. Basically, it was a chance for families to get together and be active and it was hosted by a personal trainer. I was way out of shape and the guy worked us pretty hard for an hour or so. Hubby and I would always be nauseous afterwards. Recently, I started the P90X workouts. Even though I've been jogging a few times a week for over 2 months now, I still get nauseous sometimes during the high intensity cardio workout. I just figure it's more than my body is used to handling and I would overcome it as I get stronger. One more thing. I had a supervisor who was in the National Guard and I also have a niece who ran track for her high school. Both were required to run a mile under a certain amount of time. Both were able to do it but said they got nauseous and puked every time. Apparently, it's pretty common. Something to consider... |

| Weight Loss | It just wont come off! What am I doing wrong? | Jun 11 2009 14:40 (UTC) |
2 |
It feels like it takes me forever to lose weight, zukigal, and I don't have any health issues to slow me down. It generally takes me almost 3 months of watching what I eat and walking/jogging 3-5 times a week for half an hour to see a loss of 10lbs. It's really frustrating and that's usually about when I give up. You just got to keep at it. The way my sister tells it, it takes years and years to put on all the weight so you can't expect it to come off immediately. These things take time. Even when I don't see instantaneous weight loss, I still can usually see a difference in my body after a month or so. That's better than nothing. |

| Foods | Vegetables -- do you count them? | Jun 11 2009 14:33 (UTC) |

I count them just so I can see what healthy and unhealthy stuff I eat. Of course, this doesn't generally make a difference in my food decisions but it's nice when I look at my Food Log list and see a string of fruits and veggies I've eaten that day. It's better than just seeing a string of coffee, ice cream, chocolate, tacos, etc... :) |

Original Post by meganwilliams2: Actually, in the United States, I think most foods processed in factories have a certain percentage of nasty stuff in them. I don't remember the exact numbers. My dad once was an electrician for a corn syrup factory and the government allowed a certain percent of rat feces, bugs, etc to be in the food. I guess in an environment such as that (a huge open vat of corn syrup) you can't control everything that goes in. What's worse is that I STILL eat the processed crap! I just don't think about it. I'm still alive and kicking though... |

I have a couple of small ones, nothing big but successes all the same... I've lost almost 10 whole pounds which is huge for me because it takes me forever to drop anything. The fact that I've somehow managed 10 is exciting! Hubby and kids were dying for a snack yesterday. I went to McDonald's and got the kids a caramel sundae and hubby an apple pie. I got nothing at all for myself. However, when I got home there were 2 apple pies in the bag. Was it destiny? Nope, hubby ate both! :) |

I wasn't going to comment because I really have lost very little weight (less than 10lbs) even though I've been trying my hardest since the year began. I decided that maybe adding my baby milestones might make me a little more grateful for what I have accomplished. 1) I'm actually healthy feeling! Not only have I not smoked a cigarette in over 2 months, I've been jogging and/or doing cardio pretty regularly (3-5 times a week). I can definitely tell a difference when I jog and can now keep up with hubby! In fact, I may even be able to outlast him and he quit smoking 6+ years ago! 2) I can no longer eat as much as hubby. At my most ravenous, I might eat 3/4 what he eats. It's nice not to be able to pack in as much food as a grown man! I also rarely snack anymore when he does no matter how yummy the little cream filled cupcakes look! On the off chance that I do give in, I'll split whatever it is with him. 3) I went to the lake over the weekend. Even though I'm still far far away from feeling confident in a swimsuit, my tankini bottom was really big and saggy on me. When I climbed up the ladder to the dock in the middle of the lake, I had to hold my bottoms up so I didn't moon everyone! I wore that same swimsuit like 3 years ago AFTER losing weight to go to Orange Beach (and I look halfway small in the vacation pictures)! Things I'm looking forward to: 1) Shorts no longer crawling up my inner thighs when I walk (I hate that!). 2) Actually going to my closet and grabbing whatever to wear (instead of trying 10 shirts on) because I'm no longer worried about how the item might hug a fat roll. 3) SHOPPING!!! 4) Wearing a bathing suit without being completely unattractive feeling. 5) Wearing all the clothes in my closet that still have tags on them (BEFORE they go out of style) because the size I bought ran too small and never had a chance of fitting. I haven't had much progress but I'm bound a determined to not give up this time! I will reach my goal! |

Don't feel bad. It happens to all of us. There are days when I seriously think the effort isn't worth the end result. I feel like I do soooo much work only to lose a few measly pounds. Food is my vice too. I spent the majority of my marriage keeping up with my husband's eating habits only to gain 20+lbs while he barely gains 1. It's depressing and it sucks. There is nothing wrong with you wanting to snack. I am the queen of snack foods. Just try to pace yourself as best you can and not get too down on yourself. If you overeat on the cookies, maybe you could take a walk to make yourself feel better. At least you will have burned a few of the calories eaten. I try to always keep something healthy yet sweet in my house. Don't get me wrong, I still have Little Debbie's and such (I have 2 kids) but I'll make, say, chocolate frozen bananas or buy Skinny Cow ice cream bars. I'm an addict when it comes to ice cream so I can eat these, still get every bit of the chocolate taste, and not come out too bad on calories. Another thing I recently discovered is frozen grapes. They are really good and comparable to a popsicle texture. Your best bet is to find a healthy way to make all those bad for you foods and in doing so not sacrifice any of the taste. Face it, I don't care how healthy something is if it tastes like a grocery sack. Then even if you eat too many in one sitting, at least you're not getting as many calories as if you ate too much of the real thing. |

| Weight Loss | Diet pills, diet pills, diet pills! | Apr 14 2009 20:46 (UTC) |

I've taken diet pills on plenty of occasions. I, too, am seriously impatient and expect miracles overnight. I've taken 2 different pills that I thought were fairly effective. One I used to buy at a kiosk at a mall here, Fat Predators ($30), but you can only get them online now. You lose 10lbs in 10 days and it's the truth. However, you will be so jittery and far gone that you will feel pretty crappy and abnormal. Now that they are only offered online, they are nowhere near the strength they used to be even though they claim they are maximum strength. They will seriously jack up your digestive system too and although you may get slim a lot faster, it's hardly worth the 10 trips you'll have to make to the bathroom each day. (Sorry for the visual). The other pills I took were Adipex ($60ish). They are mainly given by prescription but are not hard to get. They work pretty well too by making the very thought of food disgusting. Basically, it's anorexia in pill form. I used to like them (and even now its hard for me not to grab a prescription for easy weight loss) but there were major downfalls. They make me (and a friend of mine that has taken them too) seriously bitchy, so bitchy that I could feel my inner bitch about to explode over any and everything. When you have 2 kids it's not good to be so on edge all the time. They also made my face break out (as well as my sister's face when she took them). I wanted to lose weight but not be a skinny, acne faced bitch. Basically, there are pills out there that work but not without giving up something else (like good skin and sanity). On top of that, you WILL gain back every ounce of weight you lost almost as soon as you stop taking them and eat normally again. I'm not sure how much weight you need to lose but with me, I was able to lose a good 20lbs, I guess. It was nice and all but it wasn't great. I didn't look toned in any way. It didn't look good...sort of like when you see an anorexic and you're like "Ugh, way too skinny". It was just really unhealthy, unattractive looking. If you're wanting to be a prettier, healthier, more glowing you, I'd skip the diet pills. They are tempting but you'll eventually just be right back where you are now. |
