Chobani vanilla nonfat Greek yogurt and stores near me have just started carrying the nonfat Brown Cow Greek yogurt, get that in plain. I eat the vanilla with breakfast and the plain at 80 calories makes a good snack. |

I'm checking back in! Penny- incredible job being so close to your goal!! Misty- keep up the good work. I just had an "off my diet" weekend, but not back on track. Yolie- good job on the weight loss. I've been going by clothes fit not the scale as well. I've had a crazy two weeks. But, I do think the time I've put in at the gym and of course, my riding lessons, have really helped. I've been out doing the riding I wanted to do and more than I thought I would do three times in the last two weeks. Very rewarding, especially when I can keep up and stay out. Wonderful horse I've rented for these adventures plays a big roll too. But, building up the strength in my arms, legs and core with the strength training and then working on stamina and cardio health with the cardio, that has really done the trick! I was wearing a new shirt that I'd got on sale and my friends loved it. They had been at the same store but hadn't seen it (meant for ME obviously!). They asked what size and the super thin one thought I'd wear a smaller size than I do (not with this chest...). |

I set my activity level a light I think (have a job where I'm on my feet a lot) but then add in any exercise separately. I think CC has trotting set at like 400+ calories an hour. I just add in the time I ride. Plus they also list tacking and untacking, I add that in too when I'm washing horses, turning them in/out etc. |

I'm still here too! I've had a so so couple of weeks, not feeling great, stressed at work, going out to eat too much and not getting enough exercise. But, I'm hanging in there. Luna- good work on the skinny jeans! Penny- the lady at work is clearly jealous and sounds like the type that wants a quick fix.

I've found some of the vegan cookbooks to have more interesting and different recipes than the just vegetarian cookbooks. Here are some cookbooks (both vegetarian and vegan) we can't live without: Moosewood Simple Suppers Vegan with a Vengeance Complete Vegan Cookbook Vegetarian Express Vegetarian Express Lane Cookbook Veganomicon How it All Vegan Garden of Vegan For the cookbooks without nutrition info, I analyze the recipes here on CC and sometimes adjust them. I almost always cut the amout of oil in 1/2 or even 1/3. Vegetarian Times magazine also has a huge, free searchable database of recipes, all with nutrition info. |

Spinach sauteed in a little bit of olive oil with some chopped garlic. Yum! Green beans (I just nuke frozen green beans and eat them plain) Eggplant marinated and grilled or cut it up in small pieces, sautee it and add it to your stirfry. Mushrooms sauteed (you could even add them to a pasta sauce) Great time of the year for fruit. Peaches, melons, berries. I buy frozen berries because fresh ones are pretty expensive. Peaches and melons might be cheaper at roadside markets right now depending on where you live. And yes... onions are awful. Use dried minced onions (in the spice section) for a bit of onion flavor without the yuckiness of actual onion pieces (I always sub a few shakes of this for onions in any recipe). |

Sorry to hear that the scale is being evil, but good job keeping up with the exercise! I'm planning to weigh myself at the end of the month and am still worried about it. I've had a few days of going over calories recently, going out for Mexican again. I've been having stomach problems all week, so in between feeling sick, I'm constantly hungry, even though I'm not eating any less than I have been. I've been downing stomach pills left and right and had some good and some bad days. Oddly, I tend to feel worse at work.... stress anyone?? Went to yoga a lot this week, but missed my favorite class Tuesday night due to being way to sick with stomach problems. Topped it off with eating too much that day. Am hoping the pepcid kicks in soon, as this is not good for sticking to my diet. |

Hope everyone had a good weekend! I had an interesting weekend. Was down at my friends' house working and riding on their horse farm. Did tons of work every day, had a very small amount of calories actually on Sunday and stayed under on Saturday despite eating mostly dessert (pot luck- EVERYTHING had meat in it). Yesterday I did a lot of work on the farm and riding, then drove home. Had a pizza, which was fine but the bad choice was tiramisu for dessert- 870 calories. OMG!!!!! I ate 3000 calories yesterday. Yikes!! It does seem like I might have exercised off about 1300 calories with the farm work and I did make a conscious decision to eat the pizza and tiramisu and I have been good lately. Back on track, back to work and back to the gym today! |

Hi everyone. Annie- keep up the great work with the running. My boss has run several 1/2 marathons, she runs most put walks every 5 minutes or so I think. I've been keeping up with the gym and my eating most days. Been out several times for Mexican (my favorite) and tried to balance what I want with decent food choices, right down to counting the number of chips I ate. Both days, I stayed under my burn rate, so I'm happy with that. Had to go bathing suit shopping. Really... what is there to say.... I carrry my weight in my legs and yes, it IS possible to find a suit that makes your torso look too thin compared to your legs. Found one I actually liked and it has a cute matching little sarong. Actual suit- size 10! Got several pairs of new pants in a size 12. Went through the closet and got rid of the rest of the clothes from before I lost weight a few years ago (I gained some back, which is what I'm trying to lose now, as well as get below my lowest weight then). |

I have much the same experience, but I do think that is because I tend to love my large portions and sweets. If I just exercise and eat like normal, I don't lose weight. I can and have lost weight just through diet alone, but of course, it is best and I get the best results when I combine diet with exercise. But I'm example A of it is totally possible to work out (even fairly hard) and still eat way too many calories (ice cream- yum!) and not lose weight. Use the tools on this site to figure out how many calories you should eat (I set my activity level at sedentary) and then log in your exercise as well to see how many calories you burn through exercise. Aim to keep your calories at 500-1000 fewer than you burn through living and exercise each day and you should be good. |

Pennosh- HUGE congrats on the weight loss!! Keep up the good work. Work is pretty awful right now, super busy and boss keeps us understaffed and seems to think it is funny. We don't have to be this understaffed, but she does it on purpose (and no, she doesn't get a raise or anything by doing this). Had a great riding lesson yesterday, went to yoga 2x this week and went to the gym on my lunch hour all 5 of my work days, so I'm really happy with that. Keep the calories where I want them too and found some break and bake cookies that have 80 calories each. Had two of theose for dessert a few times this past week. Did get a new pair of pants this weekend and seem to be solidly down to a 12 in a lot of pants. Great for me with my thighs. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. It is SO hot here. |

I *love* some of the exercise suggestions: - Thin folks who say that when they start to gain weight, they just go for a 30 minute walk every day and lose it all off. I have NEVER lost weight with walking as exercise, unless it is on a treadmill jacked up to 18% incline. - An older friend who suggested I join Curves as a lady she knows said all the girls she works with joined and they are all so skinny now. Um... thanks but I already lift weights 4x per week and work out with a personal trainer 1x per week. I hate having huge thighs and calves. I'm so glad I live 3000 miles from my hometown so I don't have to worry about running into anyone I knew as a child. I have given up on ever wearing a swimsuit in public again. My thighs will never be fit to be seen in public. I think shorts are evil. |

Hi everyone. Great news Penny, keep up the good work! Last week in KY was just a total write-off. We were camping out and I did get in a lot of walking (especially walking the dogs) but as far as food... I pretty much ate whatever I wanted and didn't keep track at all. Did a ton of yard work when I got back and was so sore Monday. Due to being so sore, I haven't been working out with weights this week, just doing cardio. This week is going pretty well, I'm keeping up with the food journal, meeting my calorie goals and have hit the gym for cardio 3 days this week so far. Did buy a new pair of jeans up in KY, in a smaller size! Also got compliments at my riding lesson on my new breeches (world's MOST unflattering item of clothing) and my weight loss. Now my goal is to keep on track as I've set the end of July as my target for weighing myself. Then, I'll evaluate what to do from there... |

Luna- I know what you mean about it being hard to keep up with the counting, etc. And you amaze me with all that you do with your health issues. I have two friends with fibriomyalgia (and it seems to always come with a bunch of other nasty little issues) and both really struggle. Sometimes I try to think of keeping track of my calories as a little game. Makes it a bit more interesting? Have you tried doing something different for cardio, something new can add an excitement factor sometimes. Annie- keep in the good work with the running, three miles is FANTASTIC! Take care of your knees though! I had quite a week! Got back from VA on Monday PM and it would have been an outstanding eating day except on the drive home I found a chocolate chip muffin that had been left in my car by a passenger in my car. I was really hungry so... Tuesday I was completely exhausted but decided to push myself and go to the gym. Not a good idea. That took all the energy I had it seems and I barely made it through the rest of the work day and home. Then of course it was TOTM. Lovely... Did get in 3 days of strength training at the gym this week, but riding lesson was cancelled due to the rain. I also had a major meltdown in the dressing room this week. My legs are big and my calves tend to swell toward the end of the day (lovely...). I tried on this really cute sundress and I looked pretty good. Until I looked at my legs sticking out of the bottom of the dress. I thought I looked pretty slim (for me- it was a size 10) then I saw my calves, they were HUGE. I almost started to cry. I didn't buy the dress (I have multiple sundresses already). I rebounded by buying three hats. I am now prepared for steeplechases next spring! Ah... retail therapy... Tomorrow I leave for a week in KY. I probably won't have a chance for formal exercise, but walking 6 leash broken 45 lb dogs will give me some exercise (as opposed to the last two weeks helping walk 23 sort of leash broken 80 lb dogs!). |

Pennosh- congrats on the new first digit!! Keep up the good work. Annie- take it easy on your knees, my boss hurt her knee trying to train for a marathon and ended being told she might need surgery, being careful and just walking for a few days sound like a good idea I'm back from my weekend in VA and overall I'm happy with how I ate, could have cut back on a few things here and there, but was running around all day in the hot sun, didn't mindlessly eat and other than a few splurges, ate very sensibly. I did have a nice surprise when I put on a pair of pants yesterday. Hadn't worn them in about a month and was surprised at how loose they have gotten! I'm still in a bit of shock realizing that I'm leaving out of town again on Sunday. After this, I'm going to take a few weeks and barely leave the county! |

Misty- I'll be in Lexington KY for a whole week at the KY horse park, first week in June. Plan on bringing lots of my own food as last year we cooked out all week and they just grilled meat every night. So, load up on the Tofurkey... Sugar addiction is the hardest to kick. I just count it in my calories and have a Skinny Cow almost every night. I had a terrible day yesterday even after my earlier post but stayed under my calorie goal and though I really wanted something bad, realized that it was emotional eating and said NO! |

I too would warn you to think twice about a condo. They tend to drop in value before homes do and can be harder to sell. My friend's husband bought a condo before they were married. By the time they wanted to sell and look for a house, there were at least 10 other units in their neighborhood for sale and other units had been turned into rentals. They are still in the 3 story condo, now with a toddler. If you do get a condo, make SURE they do not allow rentals. Look for a motivated seller. Some times you can find out why the house is on the market, such as the sellers have already moved out of the area, etc. I figured my sellers were motivated when I looked up the tax records and saw that they had not paid the previous year's property taxes. As for a realtor, ask around and see who people you know have had good luck with. Do not go with a family member, friend or a co-worker's family member or friend if at all possible. I used my co-worker's husband and not only was he awful, I couldn't say anything about how ticked I was at work. |

To those that have lost weight- keep up the good work! Annie- wow, you are doing great with the running! I had a so-so weekend with being out of town. I brought some of my own food, but also had some food that I could eat, but ended up eating two desserts on Saturday (though mainly had lettuce for lunch). Sunday was mostly a travel day and I made some bad food choices on my way home. Should have picked between the fries and iced mocha at McDonalds, not had both. Ended up about 300 calories OVER my burn rate. Today I'm back on track and hit the gym at lunch, but I'm also struggling with the totally unrealistic frustration, the shouldn't I be there yet feeling of wishing my weight were in its goal range because I've been working hard at it. Yet, I realize that I've really only been at it 2 months with being strict with the diet. But still... man am I craving going calorie ladden, fruit topped pancakes! My dog did finish her championship a few weeks ago, so that is great and I probably won't be doing many dog shows this summer. One more weekend to go on my 6 straight weekends out of town, then I'm home for about 6 days, then off to KY for a week, then NO out of town plans at all currently (though I'm sure I'll be headed to Aiken sometime in June). Yolie- about your co-worker, hate that you have to work with someone so toxic, but good for you for realizing it is her issues and nothing you can do about it. Hope everyone has a good week! |

I love big cities and have vacationed by myself many times. Done several weeks in Chicago alone, including going out to late night concerts (park on busy WELL LIT streets even if you have slightly farther to walk) and never felt scared. Also visited NYC (only during the day), Philly (had a car there) and St Louis (car as well). My advice, go where there are things you will be interested in, but plan in advance. Make sure you get a good map and look it over before you leave, so you can get the lay of the land. I tend to get a Fodor's Flashmaps and a small thin Lonely Planet travel guide for cities I'll be visiting. I carry a cute purse large enough to hold both and try not to look at them in public, so as not to scream "tourist". I've been known to write the address and maybe brief directions to where I want to go on a scrap of paper, that I'll look at in public, as I do the same thing when trying to find a new place in my home town. I think it is great that you want to travel by yourself. I know so many women much older than you that are scared to even eat in a restaurant alone let alone travel. Solo travel is great as you get to make all the decisions, no feeling like you are wasting your time seeing things that don't interest you. Have a great vacation! |

Keep up the good work to everyone who has stayed on track this week. I had a great week until today. This was originally supposed to be my stay at home and relax weekend after being on the road every weekend for the last month. I do this totally by choice, I know, so I can't really complain. But... I was told I needed to enter my dog in shows this weekend, all well and good except I'm working on Saturday. So, today was spent driving 2 hours down to take her to one of her co-owers, who will drive her 4 hours to NC and show her tomorrow. Tomorrow night I work all day and then drive 4 hours to NC to show her Sunday. This is totally not how I really want to spend my weekend, but that is the game I've chosen to play... So, this is my chance to vent to people who don't know me in that life or know my friends! On the road so no lunch or gym today and Mexican for dinner. Maybe 200-300 calories over my goal but hopefully still under the burn rate. Did get a shortened riding lesson in this AM. My trainer said that I'm really getting stronger and asked if I've lost more weight. I'm really happy that she has is much more interested in me getting stronger than thinner, since she herself is quite thin. Goal for tomorrow: hit the gym at lunch to finish up the strength program for the week! Thanks for giving me a place to vent and ramble a bit! It is so nice to see people with a healthy attitude toward weight loss and overall health. Life is a wonderful and crazy journey, I think some people lose sight of that sometimes. Here's to enjoying the ride! |

Yoga/Pilates studios, personal trainers, hairdressers, especially if they are new and trying to drum up business might be willing to donate for the free advertising. Also, what about local dog trainers? Free training session or maybe a free practice run on an agility course? Check out some of the online collar sellers too, some of them will donate to rescues. I would also try to have items in a wide range of prices. One silent auction I was at this year had VERY few items under $50, which was more than I was really into spending at the moment. |

I'm also vegetarian and my morning breakfast is 1 c Kashi Go Lean (not the Crunch, the original 140 cal/cup one), 1/2 c lite soy milk, 6 oz Chobani yogurt and 1 c coffee. This has about 30 grams of protein and 300 calories. I eat about 2x the protein a day as a non-vegetarian co-worker who is also dieting. |

Timely thread as I just finished a bowl of their No Chicken Noodle Soup. Love that, love the Butternut Squash soup, both 200 calories or under for the whole can. Love their others soups and the chili (though that is a bit high in calories- around 500 for the can) and have eaten many of their frozen foods as well. So glad the grocery store down the street from work carries Amy's foods. |

Well... I went up to NJ, split the drive up into Thursday night and Friday day, then the whole 11+ hours back down on Sunday. I did pretty well with the eating most days, as I had brought stuff to make sandwiches for lunch and yogurt for breakfast. Yesterday had a bit of a bad due to to just flat out bad food choices. Ended up 600 calories OVER my burn rate. I knew I had eaten too much, but once I got home, I just had to eat a real dinner... so way over. Oh well... other than that I think I did pretty well and I hit the gym for cardio on my lunch hour. The sandwiches are working well for meals on the road, so I'll do that for the next three weekends, as I'm on the road for the next three weekends. Goal is to hit the gym every day at lunch this week. Aiming for cardio Mon, Wed and Fri and strength Tues, Thurs and Sat. |

Annie- wow, with the running, that is a great goal! Yolie- good for you eating low cal. I went to the gym on Monday, but I'm going to be out of town for 3 days this weekend and HAD to get the tomatoes in before I left, so that was the priority yesterday and I didn't get to the gym or yoga. Today I had my riding lesson which went well, even though I managed to lose a stirrup over a jump (totally my fault- made the horse take off WAY too soon). Tomorrow I leave for NJ and I'm going shopping tonight for some food to take with me on the car trip. I'm going to try to get to the gym at lunch tomorrow. I had a really low cal dish for dinner the last few nights, so I've ended up way below my calorie goal. I'm going to use my out of town eating rules again this weekend and just try to keep to my burn amount. |

I'm back home after a weekend in GA. I don't really stress over what I eat on the weekends when I'm out of town, but my goals for this weekend were to try not to go over my burn rate and to try to keep track of what I ate on my Blackberry. We ate out a lot so I had to kind of estimate everything, but I don't think I'm too far off. I was about 100 calories OVER my burn rate yesterday but today I seem to be 200 calories under (could be right at, as estimating one restaurants food based on others' data), but I'm happy with that. Did well keeping track of my food until the batteries totally ran out on the Blackberry, but updated everything now that I'm home. Tomorrow it is back to the gym and back to 1500 cals! I'm leaving for NJ on Thursday PM. This next weekend is a BIG travel weekend for me. |

I really need to try to make it a number of straight days working out too, but with all the travelling, the garden REALLY needed weeding today. I know, excuses, excuses. Big congrats to those who are getting out there and exercising every day. My goal for tomorrow is 25 min of cardio on my lunch hour. I'm driving to Atlanta right after work and while I'll be on my feet all day Saturday, not actual planned exercise. Had a HORRID Dr appointment today with a new Dr who was recommeded, don't know WHAT my friend sees in him. My only positive comment would be that he didn't say I needed to lose weight, didn't even mention my weight. Seemed a tad obsessed with smoking (which I don't do). Needless to say, I will NOT be going back. Luna, I'm with you on all the people wanting to be such skinny weights. I just *love* (eyeroll) reading all the folks posting that they feel "gross" at my goal weight when they are my height. This is by far the best thread I've seen on the boards! |

I too love the hickory smoked slices, but I only have them in sandwichs (tomorrow's lunch- yum!). I don't think I'd put any fake meat on my salad, I'd rather have some fruit and some nuts, though I seem to remember that Bac-os are vegetarian. Try some of the burgers, especially the cheeseburgers (if you aren't vegan) and the black bean burgers and also some of the breaded chicken products (nuggets, buffalo wings, chicken patties) and the ground crumbles in things like spaghetti sauce. |
