Boston -- I AM trying to gain, but my GP overseeing my recovery has instructed me not to go beyond 1800 calories. (I have under ten pounds to go, and she only wants me to gain about a pound a week.) |

Almond Breeze unsweetened is fabulous. Mix it with a bit of Frangelico's hazelnut liquor and coffee for a really nice beverage. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. The problem is, as kaila pointed out, we eat all our meals in the dining halls. I buy groceries sometimes, but fruit goes bad fast. Also, we have no way of baking/cooking (which sucks, because we love to cook). Also, no blender :( |

| Weight Loss | How often do you weigh yourself? | Mar 22 2009 05:07 (UTC) |

I weight myself like eight times a day. I think it's so funny to see it fluctuate with meals. But obviously the most accurate measure is to do it in the morning, naked, after you use the restroom. |

| Foods | starbucks vs. jamba juice breakfast...cheap and healthy? | Mar 22 2009 05:04 (UTC) |
|
Both Jamba Juice and Starbucks are delicious... just depends on whether you're in a fruity or coffee-y mood. If you're trying to lose weight, Jamba Juice has yummy light options. Plus, there's a lot more nutritional value in a smoothie than in a coffee beverage. And wheat grass shots really aren't THAT disgusting. Haha. |

I'm trying to gain up about five pounds (maybe more), since I'm recovering from an ED. Seriously, advice to all of you trying to shape up a bit: DON'T GO OVERBOARD. I started "dieting" healthily a year ago, and it progressed into an addiction in which I rarely ate over 600 calories per day. Just be safe, and stop when you hit your goal. |

Hey metowe, I'm 18 years old, and a month ago, I started taking medication for depression. I first thought it was bipolarity, which runs in my family, but my the psychiatrist I visited said I didn't have the highs along with the lows. I strongly suggest you see a psychiatrist, and have him/her prescribe you a seratonine enhancer, like Lexapro or Celexa. I've never been a fan of mood-altering medication, and I was (like you) a bit reluctant to try the anti-depressant at first. But I'm so happy I did. It changed my life. I never cry for no reason anymore, and I'm a much happier person overall. Hope that helps. |

| Weight Gain | constipation probs! | Mar 22 2009 04:34 (UTC) |

During the worst stages of my ED, I was constipated all the time. Probably also had something to do with the birth control pills I was taking. Anyways, Colace never worked and Ex-Lax made me crazy. I just had to deal with it, but honestly, now that I'm eating again, my digestive system seems to be working better. Quick question, though. Is constipation a result of not eating enough fats/oils to make your bowels work? Like, can it be caused by EDs? |

Wow, it does seem like we're the same person. It's so easy to eat nothing in dining halls. Now I'm at home for spring break, and my parents are being really obnoxious about my food intake. My mom's about 80 lbs. overweight, and she's never been able to diet effectively... it disgusts me. I guess my fear of turning into her is what started my ED. Recently, my grandfather (a doctor) said I looked like I had anemia, or a B-12 deficiency, which makes sense since I rarely eat meat. I'm really trying though. Tonight I ate a salmon dinner with an ear of corn and green beans. Even though I should get up to 105, I want to stay at 100. But my jeans keep falling off, and I am perpetually freezing, like you used to be. Thanks for the reply. It really did help. |
