Count me in. I have been hanging around here for awhile, but I haven't been very serious about my weight loss. It has been hard, but I am frustrated and tired of the weight. Now that it is a new year I have decided to rededicate myself to a healthy lifestyle. I am 5'7" and 235lbs.

And Faux, I have considered the lapband surgery, too. I talked to a local doctor's office and did some internet research. Then I realized that the time it will take to get insurance to approve such a procedure I could be half way to my goal and I have to make the lifestyle changes anyway. So, here I am.

Hi Nicole

I have been a member LA Fitness for a couple of years now. I do like the fact that they have everything in their facilities. I joined when I lived in Arizona and now I am in Cali and I still go. Like nubiker's wife, I have had "dry spells" but I love the fact that I have all of that fitness equipment at my disposal. I find myself combining workouts at the gym with tapes and exercise information I find on the Internet.

So, I say don't limit yourself! lol. ;~)

Hi Frost and welcome.

I understand well the gym thing and not wanting to work out. If you have the fitness channel that may be something you want to explore as well. There are some great workout shows and inspirational ones, as well. I personally like the Cardio Blast series because they incorporate cardio with weight training in an hour-long exercise routine. I actually think some of the shows will give you a better workout than going to the gym and you can tape them!

Whatever you do take the advice of others and find physical activities that you enjoy and mix it up a little. I know from personal experience that after you get started working out makes you feel great - even if you hate doing it. lol. ;~)

Hang in there Amy. I know exactly what you are going through and then some. I have been there and back this year and I am on my way again. Don't give up and keep in mind how far you've come and how your accomplishments make you feel. You can do it, we all can! And I have added you to my friends list.

Fitness Is it possible to overdue CARDIO???? May 06 2006

Hey Coachdee,

I find what you have to say about cardio training very interesting. It is similar to information I found on another site that has been proven to work over several years and thousands of people that train by high intensity cardio for 20 minutes 3x/wk and weight training 3x/wk. I was trying to follow that method in the gym, but old habits die hard and I find myself on the treadmill for at least 30 minutes followed by the eliptical for an additional 30 minutes 6 days/wk. And on top of that I add 30-45 minutes of weight training 4 days/wk (2 days of upper body and 2 days of lower body). And then I feel guilty for thinking that I am not getting enough exercise!

I have also read about the benefits of low volume, high intensity weight training. But once again, there is that mental thing in the gym that says more is better. I tell myself that if I work out more I will get better results, faster. How does one begin to break these cycles and destroy these myths?

You can count me in! My backyard is wide and flat (not pretty). It needs a lot of "landscaping." How long is this challenge anyway?

I am not really an F or a G. I have been hanging around here since the end of March, but I didn't really get serious until April 3rd. I have lost a total of 8lbs in 4 1/2 weeks. About 1 lb this last week. I guess I expected things to move a little faster than this in the beginning, but I am still plugging along with no plans of turning back. This site has been the best thing ever to help me get in gear and make some changes to lose weight.

whammy,

I am interested to see how it all works out as well. I have promised myself a home gym as a reward for a consistent lifestyle change for one year and a bowflex is on my list. They have been around forever, unlike a lot of other equipment that has come and gone like the wind, so I figured it must be good. Letmeknowhowitgoes. And good goin' building tonin' that body!

I ate Smart Ones for dinner every day for a long time and I noticed that after a while they started tasting less like food and more like chemicals. Go figure. Anyway. I stayed away from them for a long time until Lean Cuisine came out with the panini. I love sandwiches and I just had to try it and I was glad I did. I love it and now I eat those and some of my other favorites mixed in with home cooked meals. I love the convenience and the portion control, I just limit the them to a few per week instead of everyday for lunch and or dinner. Like some others, I do add veggies to my frozen meals to "round" it out. I find it helps with hunger and balancing nutrients.

Singpraisetojesus I am glad to know that you have tried the winsor pilates system and liked it. I was on the website today comtemplating buying the series. I want to add something different to my workouts and I thought pilates would be be a good way to sculpt my body with lean muscle mass. But tell me, is the whole series really ten bucks or is that for one dvd and then you pay more for each additional?

I am trying really hard not to deprive myself so that I can stick to this and make this a lifestyle change as opposed to a diet. I try to cook as many meals as possible and eat real food that tastes good. I also try to have a lot of variety on hand because I eat depending on my mood. Today went like this:

S: Banana - 116 cals

B: omelette w/3 egg whites, 3 oz of chicken breast, 1/4 cup each onion, reduced fat cheese, green bell and red bell pepper - 256 cals

S: Yogurt - 100 cals

L: Minestrone w/Chicken soup and low fat tuna and crackers - 305 cals

S: Bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats w/FF milk - 240 cals

I will probably have a Smart Ones for dinner around 300 cals for dinner and top off my day with Viactiv calcium and multi-vitamin chocolate chews. They are 20 cals each. I count them in my daily calories and it is great because they satisfy my need for sweets while giving my body what it needs. By the way, that omelette is fantastic. Lots of flavor for not a lot of calories or effort.

Hey all I just got started on Tuesday and I am staying between 1350 and 1400 calories. I have a lot of weight to lose (85lbs). I would love to join this club, too. I am trying a new approach to losing weight this time. I am a junk food junkie from way back that loves fast food and eating out, but now I am trying to cook at home and think about what I eat and learn about portion control. I am measuring and weighing everything so that I am aware of how much a portion really is. So far I have found that it is not really hard sticking to around 1350 calories as long as I eat at regular intervals and my meals are around 250-300 calories each. Not to sound desperate, but I would appreciate some advice, feedback, and maybe and friend or two to go through the journey with.
Motivation Lacking Willpower Apr 05 2006

Hey, I know how you feel. I don't have fibro, but I don't have much willpower either. I was doing good exercising for about three years and then last april I took a new job and got completely off track. I was already over weight, but making some progress towards my goal, but now I have gained 30lbs in the last year because of lack of exercise. It is really disheartening.

I have been a member of a gym forever and I am just now trying to get up the willpower to start back up on my regimine. I am hoping to find some support and tools here to make some permanent changes in my life. I am here tonight because I usually eat around this time. I know that I am not hungry so I am doing this instead of eating. Maybe willpower can be found in doing things different and forming new, healthier habits over a lifetime. I hope you find your way.

Motivation Oh my Gosh Am I fat???!! Mar 31 2006

I have struggled with my weight since about the age of 9 when my mother put me on my first diet. I think I lost about 10 lbs and I remember everyone saying how wonderful I looked as a tall, "thin" girl. I didn't really start to have issues (think I was fat) with my weight again until I had my first child. I gained about 50lbs, lost a good 30lbs after the birth, but ate my way back up about 20lbs or so after she was born. That stayed with me and then I got pregnant with number 2. I only gained about 20lbs with her, but I kept that on and that put me over 200lbs for the first time in my life.

I lost 60lbs back in 1997 by taking diet pills and walking 3 miles/day, five days/week, but I never learned how to eat right. I was basically starving myself thin. I got preggers again, this time a boy and it has been downhill ever since. My weight hovered at around 215lbs for about 5 years, and now it is on the rise again. I am up to 230lbs gaining the last 15lbs in the last year.

My 16's and 18's are tiiight! I know that I am fat. I hope that this site and forum will give me the tools to get moving back down the scale for good.
