Weight Loss Weight loss slowing Nov 09 2009

I know this site is called calorie count, and I dont know jack squat about counting calories, but I was in the same boat.  I started in January at 304lbs.  I slowed down and plateaued at 255lbs in May.  I got frustrated that I couldnt get below 250lbs...yada yada yada, its November, Im back at 275lbs and back here.

I dont mess with the calorie counts, I find strength through motivating others and helping them learn through my mistakes instead of learning it on their own.

You could very well be adding muscle.  Your bosy gets used to what you are doing and if your diet and exercise patterns stay constant then that is what your body expects and it is no longer burning excess, it is maintaining.

Drink a ton of water, maybe add a new wrinkle in your exercise, and hopefully that will restart your weight burn

Good luck

Hey y'all.  Can I get in this again?  I appear to have fallen off the wagon and many of you really helped me out in the Spring when I ended up dropping from 304lbs in January to someplace around 255lbs.  I have crept back into the 270's and honestly, it happened very quickly.  I loved doing this a while back and would love to do it again.

Apparently, when I reached my goal weight, I became complacent, got lazy, and put some of the weight back on, so here I am again, coming back to the motivational well.  I guess I will file it under dont know what you got till its gone, only backwards since now it is back.  I had a great Spring and Summer being 50 lbs lighter than I was in the winter.  Lets get the 20 that has crept back on off first then I will change my answer to If I reached my ideal goal weight from I will put 20 lbs back on as quickly as possible to adjust my goal weight and stop acting like I reached the finish line.

I am proud that even though I have not been to the gym since April, I have continued to lose weight simply by the changes I have implemented in my diet.  Now I am not proud that I have not gone to the gym, but once this budget project is over, I hope to get back on it.

If you are looking for admin type work, schools are all hiring staff for the new school year.  A lot of the admins at my wife's school (she is a principal) are earning degrees to teach and when they are qualified to student teach or to teach a class after they graduate, those positions become available.  My wife has hired two Admins and thinks a 3rd will be leaving to accept a teaching position.  Once the teachers start getting hired, that is when these positions will open up.  Have your resume on file so that when someone leaves after collecting the taxpayers money all summer only to quit right before school starts, you already have your foot in the door.  Now that may not help until August.  I used a temp agency once and they called me in 12 hours after I interviewed with them.  I was really hoping to have a couple days off..  :)

Good Luck

Do you eat breakfast?

I hit a plateau about a month ago and compounded with a very busy period at work where I would not have time for the gym.  Coincidentally, I started eating Wheaties for breakfast and with no exercise, have lost 2 lbs a week for a 4 week stretch right now and still going...knock on wood.

My weekly log in is located on the Shmooze forum in the motivation thread.  Feel free to visit.  It was about mid may when I started working on budgets that this started.

I don't know of anything else that I have changed that would correspond with the loss.  I promise I am not a Wheaties stockholder, either.

Bought a new suit today.  Let me explain why I was even in the store...

I wore a size 54 jacket the last time I went shopping for suits.  On the way home from Charlotte at Christmas (before I started trying to lose weight) I bought a suit with a size 52 jacket to wear to a wedding the 2nd weekend in June.  It was at an outlet store that was going out of business, so if it didn't fit, it was less than $200 so it was not that big of an expense.

The wedding is next weekend, so I pulled the suit out of the closet to take to get the pants altered (they were never cuffed).

The jacket was huge.  I tried on a bunch of new jackets and the size 50 was too big, but the size 48 was a bit tight in the arms and belly.

Long and short, they are pulling in the jacket, pulling in the waist and butt in the pants, and history has been made ladies and gentlemen.  This is the first time I have ever needed to get my suits altered and NOT LET THEM OUT.

I had some pants in the car from the dry cleaners and they need to be brought in as well.

Anyway, bought a new suit.  Size 50 jacket that is a bit big on me.  Not sure of the waist size in the pants as suits don't tend to have those as the tailor takes care of that.

And got a hair cut so that may be another pound lost.

Pretty pumped.

WEEK 7: YOU LOOK MARVELOUS!!

People around me have been very supportive, but one thing that requires a story was that I had many people last Friday tell me that heels had a very slimming effect on me.

Last week was employee appreciation week, and I was designated the host of the rally on Friday.  It was a 70's theme and I had a John Travolta Staying Alive outfit that didn't really fit, but fit a lot better than it would have four months ago.  I also have zebra print platform shoes with huge heels...I don't know how you gals wear these things.  But I was told repeatedly that outfit showed how much weight I had lost.   I have also had a few people that I didn't really know (hotel has 450 employees) say that it looked like I have lost a ton of weight.  When pictures begin appearing, I will post in profile (can you post pics on the threads???)

If I drink any more water, I will drown from the inside out.  This is new for me since January.  Last weekend I had two Pepsi Max's.  These if I can recall correctly are the first cola beverages I have had in 4 months.  I didn't miss them.  It was all I had that was cold as my icemaker stopped working.

I have not gone to the gym in two weeks, but it apparently has not stopped the lbs from shedding....  I am jumpstarting metabolism with Wheaties every morning.  It appears to be working.

Learned a lot this week.

No comments last night.  I chose the high road and stayed away from the former co-workers, but that was really all that was there.  His family members were doing the right thing by floating around, hosting their guests so there was really no place to hide.  I had a bunch of the hourly associates that were excited to see me and said that I was truly missed, and I was telling the truth when I reciprocated those thoughts.  I guess I have always gotten along with the hourly associates better than the upper management.  If you treat your employees with respect, and take care of them, then they will in turn take care of the customers, right?  It is what I always thought.  I have had people I currently work with say that if I ever moved to another hotel (there is one in the works an hour closer to my house) that they would either quit or move to where I would be.  That is pretty damn flattering, to have employees that are willing to move b/c of you.  I would never expect to relocate an employee with a family for an hourly wage job, but many of my employees are young, single, and consider Birmingham the big city...vs Montgomery???  maybe, but being from NY originally, it makes me laugh a bit calling a city with a skyline of 7 or 8 buildings the big city.  I think I would have the same loyalty from employees I had in Birmingham if I was able to land in the new hotel.  It is always easier to bring in someone you have worked with previously that you don't have to train (new computer system...maybe) but you know how they deal with the position and with customers.  It only gets uncomfortable when someone who wasn't quite up to the task starts talking about moving over with you.

WEEK 4 MINI-CHALLENGE: CHANGE IS GOOD It's always important to think back to how things used to be to truly appreciate what you have now. This week's mini-challenge is to tell us how your life has improved since you've decided to change your lifestyle.

I was never really down on myself publicly before the weight loss.  I always put forth the positive attitude and while privately it wasn't always like that, it wasn't always bad.  I would have my moments, but usually it was more in my head vs what was actually transpiring.  My overall lifestyle hasn't changed much.  I am not as tired when doing chores, but allowing myself more energy to do chores can't be classified as an improvement...Just more work.

I walk a lot faster.  I believe people are being sincere when they say how much better I look.  Sometimes it is hard not to get a big head, but I try to say thank you and say that I am not quite where I need to be, but I am working on it.  There is one young lady I work with, well, she is in another department, and she was at the printer when I went to pick something up and I hadn't seen her in a while...probably 10-15 lbs...  She screamed my name and said that I needed to get over to her so she could beat me down with a piece of fried chicken.  ???  I took it as a compliment.  How else do you respond to a threat regarding battery with a piece of delicious fried poultry???

Tonight should be interesting...Going to list it on the journal and let you all know tomorrow how it goes.  I will do weigh in tomorrow as a bit of incentive to stay under control tonight.

I did a little bit when I started.  Face it, a pretty high percentage of people say they are dieting, making a lifestyle change, going to the gym, and flame out after a few days.  Once they saw I was serious, I have had nothing but support.  This may come that I was 304lbs and not just looking to lose a few pounds.

Tell them the truth.  Answer the questions honestly

"Why are you depriving yourself? Don't you want to enjoy your life?"

I have deprived myself of enjoying life for too long and my lifestyle change will ensure that I enjoy my life for many years to come.

"Are you some sort of health nut?"

Are you some sort of unhealthy nut or what is so nutty about trying to get healthy?

"Live a little and eat this cheesecake!"

Not eating it will help me live a little longer

"I can eat whatever I want a stay thin anyway. Isn't that great?"

It will catch up to you in a year or two

It looks to be just up in the PA area.

Mike, sometimes folks just need something that some may consider a waste of time and energy as an extra motivator.  Not saying that this program is or isn't, I don't have enough knowledge to form an opinion, but if paying $10 a month to go to a gym when you could just run in the street, or pay Nutrasystem whatever it costs to provide meals you could easily make yourself, if that investment gives you a psychological edge to assist in bettering yourself, then I say go for it.

JR, how has it been working for you?

I thought the same thing for years.  In high school, I was emabarrassed to use the gym, even try out for basketball, because I was overweight.

Now, at 37 years old, the light finally went on and I am inspiring people in my weight loss ventures (304 to 267 from January to this morning)  People at work want to know what I am doing, can I help them...People half my size want my help now.  They were never laughing.  Quite honestly, the jocks friggin love it if you ask them for help...just don't quit on them because then they will have something to say.  You look to be in your teens as well.  Don't lose the 20 years that I did.  Do what you have to do, and while I don't think folks are being mean by looking, who cares if they are?  I bet you inspire more folks than not.

Just an old guys opinion.  Please learn from the mistakes I made.  Never be too embarrassed to better yourself.

Sorry I haven't been around to Shmooze.  Have been having a rough go this week.  Did not go to gym Wed to Wed but am back on it now.  I have not been sitting idle however as with the rough weather we have had here in Alabama, I have been out helping remove fallen trees, build sandbag walls, etc.  Had some wind damage to my roof but nothing too serious.  Some folks have had trees fall right into their homes and cars, and roads and parking lots became a roaring river in Montgomery yeserday just washing away cars and flooding homes, businesses, and a church of at least one co-worker.  Seriously, between tornados, flash floods, etc, it has been pretty bad and in work related life, a project that I had planned on a first week of July deadline has been moved up to May 31.  I did get to release some of that stress by playing with a chainsaw, while I do not technically qualify that as something I love per this weeks challenge, it was still an enjoyable event.

I am going to keep on keeping on as I am continuing to get many compliments and I may have inspired at least three co-workers to try to emulate what I am doing, but I think only one is truly serious.  I may have embarrassed her by saying she looked skinnier in the face (all I saw since she was standing behind a counter) as I hadn't seen her all week as she works in a seperate part of the hotel (actually, she is the spa attendant and since that is where the gym is and since I hadn't been up there all week...do the math).

Week 3 challenge: Do what you love

Well, difficult b/c while I do not love going to places that have suffered tremendous damage, you do get a feeling of gratitude that you and your family are personally safe and a sense of satisfaction in helping others.  On a totally different note, I am a very laid back, do your own thing type of person at work, however, this week, I have had scathing emails and conversations spewing forth from my persona, and I have to admit that I may have loved it.  I accused a manager from a different department of being incompetent, as well as her Director when it was escalated, and HIS director (who really could be in the running for a top 3 nominee for most useless individual at work).  I really hope for his family's sake that he is not moronic outside of work.  I have also found, without even really looking hard, 3 of my hotel's sales managers who have falsified documents maybe in return for a higher bonus payout?  Could be general incompetence as well.  Falsified might be too strong a word, but they have overstated revenue in the computer system that I look at by pulling the data to write budgets and forecasts.  This computer program generates contracts that are sent to clients.  I have found that there have been some instances where they are taking the contract generated, converting it to a Word document, changing the information on the contract (room rate might be lowered by $50 per room), now when I look in system and I see 50 rooms at $229 per night, and forecast accordingly, but the contract that the client signed says 50 rooms at $189 per night, that is $2500 that is overstated. This investigation process is just now beginning as I am putting those pieces in place, but I do love a good Matlock? Columbo? Hardy Boys? Scooby Doo? mystery...  And they would have gotten away with it if it weren't for that meddling fat guy... so I will qualify working to solve this mystery as Doing what I love.  Peeling back this onion, I am really afraid of what, who, or where this may lead to.

I will be in lockdown for the rest of the month as I need to put together three seperate hotel room revenue budgets for next year, keeping in mind that if trends continue to be low, and if I report them that way, many people will lose their jobs and unfortunately, it won't be those useless individuals listed above, so today's key word is "cautiously optimistic".
