Thank you Roger!  I will pray for us too!  Definitely sounds like we are in the same situation.

Congrats on the 5 hours, lofudge13!  That sounds so fun!  I would love to do ballet, although I'm sure I'd be with the babies hahahh to learn the moves.  I love the elegance though and I'm sure you gain incredible muscular strength.

tryin2lose25 what great motivation!  good luck!!  hope you wow them!!

As for me, my foreign relatives are loving the American food, but I'm dying!  I hardly ever eat American food; I don't even cook it!  I love spice and rice lol, and cook food from everywhere else but here...  plus the grease is not helping in my quest for losing!  We've had pizza the first night and kfc the second...  I feel like I've had my weekly calorie total in just two days! Surprised  I have to admit though, seeing them enjoying it makes me smile.  I'm trying to counteract the damage during the day, eating well.  On the plus side, they brought me LOTS of Tanzanian spices and tea, so when they're gone I can cook some great (non-greasy) food!  :)  Oh, and the only workout I'm getting right now is walking and shopping.  Walking on lunch break at work, and shopping the entire evening with the relatives.  I should just drop them off at a mall and go to the gym!  lol

Bye guys!

Oh..  and welcome Lauren & t100smiles!!  Glad to have you!

hey all...

I'm still here, trying to hang in there.  I'm pretty frustrated...  it seems that the more I want it, the more it doesn't happen?  I really don't know if my body has hit the most evil plateau ever, or what could be going on.  I know I may be going over my calories by 100-200 on some days, but the exercise should be covering that, and I should at least see a half pound a week!  I'm almost to the point of consulting a nutritionalist because I don't know where else to turn.  :(  My motivation is still way up!  Thankfully!

I have family visiting from another country this week, so I'm sure this one will be a struggle.  Send good thoughts my way!  hehe

hey guys!

mia: so happy to hear from you!  I've been wondering how you are!  Congrats on the awesome weight loss!

I did well last week and am really feeling motivated to stick with it.  Thank GOD!!!!  Finally got my motivation back!  No matter how bad you want it, if you can't find that motivation, it doesn't matter!

Anyway, not a lot of weight lost since the beginning of the challenge (now at 209.6), but I'm feeling confident that I will stick to it now.  My trip to Africa is drawing closer, and I think thats a lot of the motivation!  Whatever it is, I'm just happy!

lofudge13: don't get discouraged.  I know its SUPER frustrating, but we all reach plateaus.  Maybe try to eat 100-200 more calories/day for a week to let your body know that every thing is ok.  Then hopefully the next week it'll realize that it's okay to lose weight.

tryin2lose25: thanks!  stick with it girl!  I know you can do it!

roger:  so proud of you!

thomas:  welcome!  let us know how you're doing, and good luck!

hey everybody!  I'm just checking in before the weekend.

Tomorrow I'll have to swap my normal 2 hour workout for a 5 hour volunteer session, which will still burn calories cause I'll be painting.  Hoping to have a decent weighin tomorrow morning too...  we'll see!

Good luck on the weekend everybody!

lofudge13: congrats on surviving the NY trip!

ranchobernardo: nice to have you here!  definitely a perfect fit!  I do agree with lofudge13; you need to eat at least 1200.  I used to eat only 1000 or less a day and lost a lot of weight, but was by no means anorexic.  Now my metabolism is screwed up, and its soooo hard to lose.  It's really not worth it because after being so thrilled that I lost weight, I now can barely lose anything, and it's devastating.  Take care of yourself, please!!!

HEY ALL!!!

I can't lie...  I've been hiding.  :(  I'm really disappointed with myself...  lack of dedication, motivation...  I don't know what it wrong with me!  Mentally, my morale is just nonexistant.  I know 100% that I can do this, but for whatever reason, I don't do it.  BUT...  I know that hiding out isn't good, because you guys are here for support, so I have to be here to get support.  lol, I can't believe how simply my brain is thinking..  this is just ridiculous!  I'm praying something (whatever it is) will click so I can get this all moving.

CW 209.5.

I'm pretty behind on the posts, but I skimmed them a little.  Sounds like everyone had a rough 4th but seem to be recovering from it now.  Good job guys!

elly: I'm so proud of you!  You originally said that you would "try" to branch out and communicate here; you've don't just an outstanding job.  I'm really glad to have you in the group.  Congrats on your success so far.  Are you back from NY now or still struggling with the foods of travel?

pizzacottontail: sounds like you're doing great if you're seeing a change in size! (in the right direction that is..  haha!)  congrats!!

mia: glad to see you here!  I was wondering where you went!  Not too many people from the old group have posted here.  Let's keep at it girl!

tryin2lose25: I hear ya on the long-standing plateau.  I've been this weight since January..  so frustrating.  Hope to see us both kick it!

jkpenrod: glad to see you here!  keep it up and keep us updated!  :)  I think you can definitely meet your goal by Labor Day!  good luck!

mfajita: you're not kidding about everything revolving around food.  What is up with that?  Instead of family bbq's we need to do family mile walks, haha.  I guess it's good that some of us are realizing this so we can prepare ourselves!

akasharaine: don't let it get you down!  we want to see you succeed just as much as you do!  you can jump "back on the wagon" with me this week, lol!

madamebones: sounds like you had a great 4th!  too bad we don't have more long weekends huh?

Good luck guys...  I'm just praying I will find my dedication.  I know its out there!

hey ya'll!

So I need to be honest....  I haven't started trying yet.  I feel a little guilty, however, the challenge does say july to nov!  Tongue out  I'm part of another challenge here that starts July 1st.  I decided that since I've had so much trouble sticking to it lately that I would give myself these last days of June to really have a break from all.  No counting calories, no logging my food.  I'm eating some things that I normally would think twice about.  (I should note that even though I'm going "all at it" for me this isn't so bad...  there's still no way I'm going much higher than 2,500 calories but it's double from my normal 1400 a day)

Anyway, today is the last day of my food frenzy, and I feel like in doing this I can't have any excuses for saying, "oh, I haven't been carefree in so long, one day won't hurt."  I really need to get serious about this!

mfajita:I like your method of rewards!  (Not so sure about the mexican restaurant, but if it works for you, great!)  I think I might try that out as motivation too!  Thanks for sharing.

lofudge13/elly:  I just wanted to say that I calculated your BMI for your goal weight, and it's not unhealthy, so I respect what you're trying to do.  I'm sure you've been criticized before though.  Congrats on the 2 lb. loss!!  I'm really impressed!  Don't push too much, like you said...  you're doing awesome!

Susie: Sorry to hear about the wake up call, but sometimes its just what you need to make you ultimately happier.  Good luck!

Shaye/Holly:Don't worry about being "the biggest" ..  you can't look at it that way.  We're all going thru the same thing, and you just had a baby!  It sounds like you have some great plans to stick to it.  Do a lot of research about what is healthy to eat at the restaurants you go to often.  Hopefully that'll help you enjoy going out, and spending time with your fiancee!

Natalie: also plateaued here, and preparing for a wedding...  I definitely relate!  let's beat this!!

Tanya: Wow, if only I exercised like you do!  I really want to see you succeed.  You obviously have a lot of dedication for many things in your life.  Try to focus that dedication on yourself!!  :)  You're more important than anything!  I think you need to be very very...  VERY detailed in what you're eating every day.  There's no reason you are exercising that much and having weight gain.  Counting calories can be a huge eye opener...  and it changed my life!

Roger:  I'm so proud of you for hitting your goal!  Of all of us from the last 25 lb. challenge, you were one of the only ones to stick to it and really meet the goal!  I really admire you!

Jennifer/mustfitthedress: I'm getting married too!  Mine's in February so we've got just about the same length of time!  Maybe we can help each other!

Everyone: To those I didn't respond to, I'm not ignoring you, I just skimmed thru the replies quickly.  Cool  The biggest reason for successes in our last group was lots of member interaction.  We developed friendships and knew about each others' personal struggles.  Please be involved!!  We all need support.  It really does work!!

Hi Jaylene! Nice to meet you!  Sounds like you have a good workout plan, but I know what you mean with other parts of life getting in the way.  Hope to see you here often!

Me:  I have catered lunch the rest of the week at work... never helpful.  But, I ate super healthy yesterday to balance it out, and hoping to exercise at least 1 hour in the evening on either Wed. or Thurs. in addition to my daily walking and do 2 hours on Saturday.  Weighed the same today...  maintaining.

alright guys...  (hopefully I'm not just talking to myself) Wink

I created the new group today.  It's called 25 pound challenge: Jul-Nov '09 and it's in the Games & Challenges forum just like this one.  http://caloriecount.about.com/challenge-jul-n ov-ft143182

Please everyone go there!  I'm only making a new one so that we can start fresh with the next 5 months and hopefully give us all a jumpstart!

If you can't find the forum, please message me!!  I want to see you all there!!!

ok great!  I guess as long as I have at least one person with me I'll go ahead with a new group..  lol!

I'm planning my wedding....ugh!  But thankfully since we haven't picked the date yet, we just moved it back from Nov to Feb!  So that gives me a lil more time to get where I want to be. Laughing  I'm thinking we should stick to 25lbs at a time, so how about 25lbs from July 1st to Nov 30th....    that's 5lbs a month, which I think is reasonable.  Should we call it "25 pound challenge: Jul-Nov 09"?

I would really hope that people from this group would carry over to the new group..  cause I'll miss all of you, even though we've all been MIA for a long time.

btw, mia you certainly make me feel better about my unpacking.  My husband is allllll  over me about a couple of boxes that I've stuffed into closets!  (& yes we're already married...  didnt have a big ceremony here, wanted to do 2 weddings, 2nd one is in Tanzania)  He's kind of a minimalist though, so I kinda understand.

hey mia!  Great to hear you're still on track and sounds like you're pretty active!  My place is finally getting settled (omg I had so much stuff...  I should've started my own goodwill center) but now that I actually have space -- not only in my house, but in my brain for thinking straight! -- I'm getting on track.  I'm cooking great foods and exercising a lot more than while I was moving/unpacking/buried in boxes.  The heat is on here too..  already heat indexes of 100+ so no time better than now!

I'm just wondering if anyone would be interested in starting another/continuation challenge.  I started this group later than everyone else and although I lost about 5 lbs, I still want to lose about 30 more.  Any thoughts??

Wow Tori!!!  That's so awesome!!  Congrats on the 195!  You're doing phenomenal!!  Great job at school too!  It's always a great feeling to have another year behind you.  How much more do you have to go?

Sarah: Your cruise sounds fun!  I hope you enjoy every minute of it!  8 stress free days of relaxation...  wow, I don't even know what I would do!  haha

Me:  Stilllllllllllllll unpacking, only about halfway thru it.  Yell  I have managed to rediscover half of my living room floor though!  We're gettin somewhere!!

I've been stressed beyond stressed (actually have two pimples on my always flawless face, lol, so that should tell ya) so I haven't been weighing in.  I know that I've been eating way less than perfect, but I'm not doing horrible either.  Now, if I could just find a gift for mother's day!

Sarah:  When is your cruise?  Where/how long are you going?  I've never taken a cruise but have recently been interested in it.  I love your plan to counteract the caloriefest!  If you get up each morning and exercise, before you see all those temptations, you'll be doing good.  Hopefully some more people will start posting again, otherwise I'll be here by myself until you get back!  Wink

Me:  I .. am .. so .. tired!  I know I've been burning some serious cals, but this move is killing me.  I SO don't want to be at work today...  there's so much for me to do at my new home.  My entire living room and breakfast room are FULL of boxes!  My 2nd bedroom is currently the bedroom, gym, music room (piano, guitar, etc) and office..  haha..  everything was just piled in there!  I'm not physically tired (must be due to that cardio and weight lifting I've been doing Laughing yay!) but mentally I'm exhausted.  I feel like I'm on a search for treasure trying to figure out what I have and where to put it.  I'm still (somehow) excited, lol; just looking forward to the end of it!  Not eating much because I'm so busy: really don't have an appetite.  So hopefully I'll see some results!

Oh, and it only took me 25 minutes to find a pair of office-appropriate shoes this morning!  hehehe

Congratulations Roger!!  You're doing great!

Sarah: hiiii!  I'm out here..  somewhere, lol!  How ya doing?

Me:  I'm moving this week, starting yesterday.  Moving two places into one...  got one done so far and one more that we're starting on tomorrow!  Hoping for some SERIOUS calorie blasting and that I don't counter that with some seriously bad fast food..  everyone helping loves pizza but me :(

I'm down one more lb..  glad to have any progress at all.  I'm not trying to make excuses, but this move is what I've been waiting on..  I've felt like the living situation I had before was a major deterrent to my weight-loss success.  I'm absolutely ecstatic to move, unpack, and get my life in order ... and burn some calories during it all!

You guys are the reason I'm holding on at all to any success with my weight.  I am maintaining well and losing slowly, and I'm so happy to at least be there.  We've all been on hiatus lately, but I know you're all out there and I hope everything is well....  thanks for your dedication and being there for me!

Can't wait to hear from everyone!

Hey guys!

Sarah: I'm back down too.  I think we've both learned our lesson, haha.

Ali:  you clearly already have the commitment factor in your favor, and if WW will give you the extra boost you need, go for it!  Just keep in mind that either way, you will still have to be strong with your boyfriend.  I know they mean well, but sometimes the closest people in our lives can do the most damage to our weight loss goals.  Maybe try having a conversation with him specificaly regarding your goals, and let him know that when you say no to food, you mean it, and he needs to honor it even if he doesn't understand it.  I think we will always struggle with this though...  my husband made me eat a small piece of chocolate yesterday after I told him no 5 times...  haha  (Perhaps I need to have the same conversation with my hubby...)

Pook:  glad to see you back!  Sounds like most of us had a rough week.  Great to hear you maintained!  Lets get back on track this week together!!

Me...  Due to some strange monsoon-esque weather we had here, we cancelled our plans to go out of town.  I managed to work in two long walks this weekend.  Friday night for an hour and Sunday for 1.5 hours with a little jogging.  I should have went to the gym, but the weather was too irresistable for me to be trapped indoors.  Good to switch it up anyway, and I probably need to take advantage of it while I can.  Summers here are mostly too hot to exercise outdoors.

I ate relatively well, sushi and churrascaria (meat) on saturday and fish yesterday.  Yesterday was back down to levels before Easter.  I'm anxious to see where this week will take me; determined to get back to the gym!  Good luck all!!

Hey all!  I am (regretfully) thankful to hear fly and Sarah are in the same boat as me.  Sorry to hear that we have all gained a few lbs from Easter, but honestly thankful to hear I'm not the only one.  I have been so disappointed in myself this week.  I'm not eating the way I want to; 1) busy busy = no time to cook, and 2) leftover Easter deliciousness, are to blame.  I also haven't been able to really exercise other than an hour walk the other day, but none of the calorie blasting I like to do at the gym.  It's also my anniversary this weekend, so we are planning to have a mini-getaway, and as excited and appreciative I am, I'm a little sad cause I'm going to miss my Saturday at the gym...  ugh!  I'm a little torn...

I don't want to sound down though...  I've had some great things happen this week aside from weight loss.  I think I'm going to take the attitude of letting this week be an exemption and next week I can do the same things I've been doing...    can't wait til Monday!  :)

Hope everybody has a great weekend!

Sarah:  I love the "one-derland"  haha!  Hope I'm there in a few weeks!

Brenda:  Hi!  Come on girl, we're here for you!!  I have a very similar and stressful, action-packed, eventful, never-time-for-myself schedule, too!  Wink  No kids, but I work similar hours and am a newlywed with a million things going on all the time, plus planning a second wedding in Africa!  These girls are a great help and being accountable to all of us I think will help you stay on track!  Speaking from my experience, when I'm that busy, I know I don't eat right even when I do the best I can.  Try to concentrate on that and get lots of healthy stuff at your reach!  Good luck!

lol I had the same dilemma!  When I met my guy I was freaked out because he was "so nice....??!??!"  It freaked me out because it seemed like it couldn't be true, or that he had ulterior motives...  but, he was still sooo nice...  I mean I told my mom after 2 months of dating him that I think we're going to get married....

Just try to dig deep without him knowing, find out everything you can, get a lot of info from his friends, see what people who know him say about him...  that's all I knew to do, so hope it helps you!  Just don't let him know you're doing all that or he might think you don't trust him.

Long story short, I married the guy 7 months after meeting him!  Been married 5 months now!  :)

Hi!

Congratulations!  I've used a few different bc options...

DO NOT get on DEPO!  I was on it for 3 years, then all the sudden I gained 60 lbs in 3 months and could not lose the weight no matter what I did..  I ate super perfect, exercised every day..  still carried the weight!  Oh, I also had acne (no acne before depo), hair falling out, and scars that turned black on my fair skin whenever I had the slightest injury...  even a cat scratch!  I also have 3 other friends who gained weight from depo, at least 10 lbs.

From there I got on the NuvaRing, and was able to -- almost instantly -- lose the weight I gained from Depo.  NuvaRing is a great option, after a little time you won't notice it's there at all, and its a low dose of hormones.  I was on this for 3 yrs too.  Only side effect I had with it was bad tension headaches for the first 6 months.

Although I loved the ring, I lost my med insurance and had to find a cheaper option so I talked to my doc and she gave me Tri-Sprintec ($9 @ Walmart with NO insurance!)  I was a little skeptical of it, but I've been on it about 1.5 years and I love it!  I have no side effects from it, clear skin, and no pregnancies, lol!

One main thing to consider about the various pills out there:  Do you want to have a monthly period?  Many of the pills offer a period only a few times each year, but for me personally, I like my body to remain as normal as possible.  Plus, I'd be worried that I didn't get my period because I was pregnant, but I'm a little paranoid like that, lol!

I'm currently considering switching to an IUD because I want something a little more permanent since I just got married and want to enjoy "us" before we add to the bunch!  ;)

If you have any more questions, feel free to message me!  I'd love to help!

Good luck!

Tori:  Good luck girl!  It's so tough when you start feeling negative about yourself..  we've all been there!  Just keep in mind that this period in time will pass, but in the meantime you want to stay on track and do your best.  Stock lots of healthy food options cause stress will make you more prone to grabbing the first thing you can.  Keep up on the water and counting, even if you can't lose right now because of stress you can still maintain!  (I hope no one thinks bad of me for saying that, but in my life that has to be reality.  If I'm stressed it's better for me to aim for maintenance rather than losing because if I'm focused on eating small amounts, I'll usually ruin it at the end of the day, eating wayyy too much.  Maintence calorie levels are easy for me to focus on though!)

Ali:  I drink often...  The best thing for me was to drink Miller Lite  (even though I like imports!)  because it was only 95 calories, and drink it slow, staying mindful that I didn't want to drink more than 3-4 while I was out.  If I'm wanting liquor though, I'll drink vodka/cranberry, but I'm sure I need to search out a better option.  I also drink sangria or sake (sake is about half the calories of vodka with the same kick!  hehe).  I'd love to hear what other people have found to be low-cal...  we should start a post on just this, lol.

Roger: Keep it up!  It's great to hear that you will have lost 25 by June!  Good luck beating the snow!

Tanya:  wow 3 lbs!!  Way to go!  I envy you for your sleep..  I have a hard time sleeping enough, which I'm sure is contributing to my weight loss struggles.  :(  And btw, very proud of you for turning down the ice cream!

Me: I lost 2 more, as of Friday!  I have to be honest; I was sooooo giddy lol and couldn't wait to get on here to share my news with the group.  I have to say that this group has given me so much motivation!  Thursday and Friday I went to the gym for 2 hours each day!

With that said, I'm not logging my food intake for the weekend, not even going to boggle my mind with it.  I'm sure it wasn't too good, but I won't let it detour me from what I've been doing the past two weeks.  Goal for this week:  workout 4.5 hours.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know a good substitute for tahini? I couldn't find it anywhere, so I tried using sesame oil, but its just not the same...

try www.ziyad.com ... maybe you can talk your local store into buying this since you have to purchase large amounts I think...  or you can just go tahini crazy and have enough for the rest of your life!

__________

kitty:  dang girl!  How big of a bag did you buy?  This seems like a lot of effort just to get rid of one bag of carrots!  Laughing

Glad you made this post though, as a hummus lover, I too have always wished for a lower-cal alternative.  It's just soooo good!

I'm now 209, down 3!  I bought a new scale -- apparently I got a friendly one, lol!  Keeping you all in my mind and knowing I didn't want to come back here with bad news I ate smaller portions of the things that weren't too good and other than that ate healthy.  I went to a crawfish party all day Saturday, and I did ok, except I did have quite a bit of vodka/cranberry because I never get a chance to let loose and this was an environment where I didn't have to worry about driving home and if I was safe or not.

I also went to the gym on Saturday for the first time in two weeks and took a walk on Sunday.  I want to eat good during this week because I know the weekend will be difficult, going out of town for Easter.

Mia: I can't wait to find some PB2!  Sounds delicious!!  Thanks!

Pook: Thanks for the encouraging words and good luck with those cals!  Get them back down soon because if you keep going and enjoying that amount of food its harder to cut it back!  You're inspiring me with your weight loss, so don't give up!!

Sarah:  Were ya a cleaning machine?  haha I know when I'm wanting to burn calories by cleaning I really get into it!

Butteryflymed: Congrats!!  I know that had to feel awesome!

Ana: Good luck this weekend at the wedding!  I'm sure it'll be tough, but don't blow all your hard work this week on the wedding refreshments and food.  Just remember all of us are supporting you and want you to succeed.  Hope you have a great time!!

okay all, first I want to say thanks for letting me join the group!  I feel like the biggest part of my success that I'm lacking is a support group, so now that I have you guys, I HAVE NO EXCUSES!  I have to get this going!

So here's my introductory post:

I'm 25 years old, 5'11, currently 212 lbs.  About 3 years ago had gained a lot of weight from some evil birth control and I was absolutely devastated with my health and appearance.  However, it led me to do a lot of personal research on how to be healthy and what it takes to lose weight.  Once I learned about counting calories, etc, the weight just fell off!  It's like a miracle!  haha   Anyway, back in November I weighed 197, so I've gained a little bit back thru the holidays and many other events since then.  Summer is nearly here though since I live in Houston, and I know I need to start now before I'm melting because my summer clothes don't look good!

My biggest problem is having too much going on in my life so I don't have time to take care of myself.  After work I often volunteer or have other things so I have to grab food from a restaurant, and although I make good choices, that food is always higher calorie than cooking at home.  I have also lost time to go to the gym, so I need to cut back on other things and just make it all about me, lol!

My goal this weekend is to buy a new scale and try to maintain healthy eating.  I'm also planning to get back to the gym for the first time in 2 weeks!  I'm very excited about it!

So I haven't been able to read all the posts, obviously, but I'm going to start somewhere :)

Mia: Congrats on pampering yourself a little!  I think it's a key to success!  What's PB2?  Could it be a tasty/healthier alternative to real PB or is that just a dream of mine?
Also, I think I need to hear your story about your first wedding....  sounds like I've done the same thing!  haha

Pook:  You had a great day!  Resisting those cookies is something to be very proud of!  Great job!  Make sure you get those 100 cal ice creams, they're great for detouring a potential calorie overload!

Sarah: good to hear you made it thru the open bar, and sounds like you neutralized the damage with all that activity!  I know you felt good this morning when you saw that scale!

Wow!  I am so jealous of the network you guys have!  It must be very encouraging to have this many people whom you sort of have to report to every day!  I wish I could join!  Why does the topic say (closed)??

Hey!  I'm feeling the same way as you.  I guess it's not that I don't get support from family/friends, its that I don't tell them what's going on because it's sort of personal to me.

I'd love to message on here if you're interested.
