Hey everyone...keep up the good work.  I check in here every day and get a lot of inspiration from your posts...for anyone who is feeling discouraged I just want you to know that since I started this whole project of weight loss and healthier living in late June 2009 (with the SChmooze and Lose II challenge) I have lost 5" from my hips...this is the thinnest and most fit I have been in 6 years, but I know that I am only about halfway towards my goal.   I've been learning a lot about myself but the one thing that I have learned is that can never, ever give up, even when things don't go as quickly or as smoothly as I would like them to.

Total loss of 21 lbs. so far so I am pretty happy, although a little concerned that things are slowing down a bit.  However, I have been pretty sedentary for the past week (lots of meetings and computer work) so I have to get moving again and remember to drink lots of water...again, thanks for everyone's input, interest, and sharing...I'n going over to Schmoozers III right now to sign up for the NEXT ten weeks...

Hi SChmoozers - I don't have all my measurements from when I started, but I can tell you that when I first measured on June 27 my hips were 50", and they are now at 47", so I have lost 3 inches from my hips in 10 weeks - I'm pretty psyched.  I have lost a total of 20lbs. so far...so how do I feel?  Pretty damn good!  But also pretty damn aware that this is just the first step.  I plan on losing around 40 more lbs, but I feel like I am one-third of the way there to my overall goal in terms of weight loss.  I also feel...resolute and resilient.  I feel like I can do this, that I can make the right choices for myself for the long haul (like the rest of my life).  I am 43 years  old and this is the most confident and "in-control" I've ever felt about food and my weight in my entire life.  I also notice that I can now climb flights of stairs with relative ease that used to leave me feeling breathless and sweaty.  I believe that things happen for a reason in life, and only work when you are personally ready for them to work for you, so I love the fact that I happened to stumble across the caloriecount.about.com boards back in June just as I was ready to really make this happen...

Down 20 lbs total!  Pretty psyched, especially because the last 3 weeks have included vacations, people visiting, lots of craziness, and huge availability of wine, sweets, and other tempting treats...would like to lose about 25-30 more lbs. but I feel like I have made progress and Schmooze and Lose is responsible for a lot of it.  I would absolutely love to have another 10 week challenge because being able to check in here and just read about the experiences, successes and struggles of other people has been a huge help to me....

Hi everyone - I'm down  17 lbs. since the beginning of this challenge, so overall I am really happy with the results (although I certainly have a lot more weight to go).  I need to let go of the idea that I will never be the weight/size/fitness level that I want to be and that I should just settle for less.  I am not doing that this time....

Hi everyone...sorry that I didn't post last week but was away on vacation.  This is probably the first vacation in my life where I actually watched what I ate - not that I denied myself a lot but I avoided sugars and sweet things and focused on lean protein and veggies and fruit.  It's only now that I am realizing how far I have to go in terms of losing all of the weight that I want to, but I think I just have to enjoy having my clothes fit a little looser on me and being able to wear some things that I haven't been able to wear in a long time.  Also, I have a huge old hooded sweatshirt that I used as a "coverup" for a long time because I thought it hid my bulk...the zipper finally broke on it this week and I realized that it was actually way too big for me now and I needed to lose it, along with the weight I've been shedding.  It was too wrecked and worn to donate to charity, but it was a real pleasure to put it in the trash!  Best of luck to everyone and I am hoping for a successful week for all of us...

Down 2 lbs, and it is fat, not water or muscle (I weigh myself at a place that has a scale that calculates total amounts of water, fat and muscle in your body, which is handy).  I am happy with that, and I realize that "slow and steady wins the race".  One thing I need to look at is the amount that I exercise - I haven't really been doing as much as I would like to, and I have no excuse other than the fact that I have been LAZY.  I plan to do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day for the next 2 weeks (walking, treadmill, elliptical, swimming, etc.)  Went swimming yesterday afternoon so that is a good start.  Have a good weekend and a good week everyone - keep working at it!!

I'm happy - down 9 lbs. total.  At 10 lbs. I'll be 20% of the way to my first major goal (losing 50 lbs.).  As far as my favorite lo-cal supper, it would have to be a grilled chicken breast, chopped, in a huge chopped salad (lettuce, purple cabbage, scallions, radishes, cucumber - whatever is on hand really) with 2 tbs. lowfat shredded cheddar cheese.  I dress the salad with Good Seasons Italian salad dressing (I make the very lowfat version with only a tiny bit of olive oil and more water and vinegar added to replace the missing olive oil).  I love to have this in a large bowl rather than on a plate...for whatever reason it is really satisfying to me and I feel good about myself when I eat it.

Best of luck to everyone and have a great, healthy & positive weekend!

Hello Schmoozers - like so many of you my food weakness is food in general, and not doing enough exercise to be healthy and keep my weight down.  Big triggers for me are refined sugar (white granulated, sweets, cakes, cookies, etc. etc.) and butter...I have essentially cut these things out of my life for now as I am on a pretty strict regime.  Here is my promise:  I, Limerick37,  do hereby promise to avoid/not eat butter or refined/processed sugars for 2 weeks ending July 20, 2009.
