| Fitness | Exercise Is Not In My Vocabulary | Jul 20 2009 20:28 (UTC) |
|
Well I've gotten into the habit of exercising daily, for about thirty minutes. And while I'm starting out slow and have to take many breaks it is definitely an improvement because I am now consistently exercising.
I have lost 8 pounds now! (Probably much of this is water weight, but it is exciting nonetheless). Seeing the pounds starting to come off is a motivator in itself to keep me exercising and doing a little more each and everyday. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and support :) |

The breathing may be the cause, I've noticed I breathe rather... awkwardly while exercising. I'll focus more on my breathing and see if this gets better.
Diabetes runs in my family though.. I hope I'm not diabetic |

This makes me laugh because the day before my high school prom I wrapped my belly in saran wrap and wore it all day and night hoping it would make my stomach flatter for the big night. It didn't, and instead I just got very little sleep because the saran wrap was so uncomfortable. haha how young and silly I was. |

| Weight Loss | 6lbs lost in 4 days, a little worried... | Jul 06 2009 07:05 (UTC) |
2 |
I in no way can give any advice that equates to a medical opinion, but I would only worry if this is a pattern that occurs more consistently than four days. The most weight loss occurs at the beginning of diets and you have a rather large calorie defecit. I think water weight is to blame, especially since it is your time of the month. You retain water and bloat during your period. I would see if things steady out a bit over the week and if you are still greatly concerned, discuss this with your doctor. I wouldn't worry too much just yet. |

| Weight Loss | I'm ate 900 calories yesterday when I normally eat 400, and I gained .5 pounds....? | Jul 06 2009 06:54 (UTC) |
|
I'm not going to preach to you about how you need to eat more calories because well, I believe you already know that, not to mention everyone else has already hammered it into your head if you didn't. I understand though that you wont increase your calories if it means gaining weight, which it will if you do it too quickly. Try gradually increasing your intake... maybe by 100 calories a week. All next week consume 500 a day, then the following week 600 a day, or whatever works for you. This way your body will slowly get used to it and back to a healthy state. Hopefully this will prevent sudden weight gain and the chances of you relapsing back to 400 calories because you wont be able to survive off that for very long, sooner or later you will have to eat more... just sooner is better before too much harm is done. |

I skimmed through the paragraph on the link Amber posted and it sounds like a huge scam. A man who was supposed to be on the airplane on 9/11 but his life was saved... it seems like just a made up inspirational sob story to bring in more money. |

I'm intimidated too. I feel like everyone is judging me, looking at me thinking "yeah she needs to be working out." I also compare myself to the nauseating fit people who I envy beyond belief. You know, the ones who work out in sports bras and booty shorts. |

Spanx are a gift from angels! I wear them all the time. Think of it this way- you may see your ex this time not as prepared as you would like but imagine how much more shocking it will be the next time you run across him after you have made the permanant changes! That way the next time you see him you wont be right back where you started because of yo-yo dieting and he will surely notice. |

Isn't it crazy how the weight just creeps up on you? You notice you're gaining but it doesn't really hit you til one day you hardly recognize yourself. I knew I was gaining weight but I didn't realize how much til I got on a scale. I have always been small and I expected I was ten or fifteen over weight. Wrong- I was thirty. The weight comes on in no time but takes forever to get off. Its so much easier to gain then it is to lose. But at least you have caught yourself now and can make the steps to losing the weight. |

Slim Fast has protein if I remember correctly. However, Slim Fast also says to lose weight it is to be used as a meal replacement for two of your meals. That would mean you are only eating one meal of food then two meals comprised of a slim fast drink. Doesn't sound healthy at all. |

I am right there with you, our stats are almost identical. I am teetering on the 4'11 to 5'0 range and 127 pounds, also wanting to get down to atleast 100. I've been doing this all of June and only lost 3 pounds. I feel like I'm never going to get there :( |

Gosh I hate pictures. A similar thing happened to me today. I was out with my family sight seeing and of course the camera was brought along. I was wearing a dress which I thought was flattering... til I looked through the pictures later. I looked like a square- as wide as I am tall. And the pictures from behind... oh god, what an ass I've got, the fabric looked stretched acrossed it! Can't believe I strutted around town like that. |

My family used to live in Japan, I was just a little girl so of course I was thin but my parents and siblings were thin as well. Then when we moved here they ballooned. They are now obese and I am not on the thin side anymore.

I get this same reaction as well. I am also 19, only 5'0 tall and trying to get down in that range of numbers. Currently I'm 127. When I talk to others my age they automatically assume I am being unhealthy in my goal. But I am the shortest person I know with friends much taller than me. They are all used to seeing higher numbers but that is because there is more height to them. |

You don't need to be losing any more weight. You said you need to be in control, well maintaining weight takes a lot of control. Though the number sounds high, 1200 calories really isn't a lot because that is what the body burns up regardless of exercise. It will prevent you from going into starvation mode and destroying your metabolism. If you continue eating such a low amount, your metabolism will be shot. This means when you finally do start eating healthily, your body will have a harder time burning the calories which will lead to weight gain in the future. Change your habits now to prevent setting yourself up for failure because you can't keep eating this little forever. You may feel hot this year in a bathing suit, but if you keep this up next year you will be far too sick to even get out of bed. |

I hear ya about college sabotaging your weight! I'm trying to lose about 27-30 come September and am horribly scared that once I get back at school I will gain it all back. It's so much harder to count calories at college, especially since I live on campus. There are no nutrition labels on the meals there! I'm also worried I wont make it to my goal and then will be more inclined to say "forget it" when I'm there and tempted by the college life. |

My entire right side of my body is larger than the left. Literally. If I put my hands evenly against eachother, the right one has a fourth of an inch on the left one. Same goes with my feet! I've even noticed that my love handle is bigger on the right side! I can't explain why but I know I'm the only one who has ever noticed this.

Oh I hear ya! An ex friend of mine told me that I was no longer "fun" because I had gained weight. She said that I wasn't confident enough, and that my calorie counting was "annoying." I also would only have one or two drinks at parties when we went out because they were so high in calories and that was just about the lamest thing I could do in her eyes. Whatever, she'll be wishing she had followed in my foot steps when she sees me looking great! |

| Weight Loss | I can't control myself | Jun 08 2009 20:43 (UTC) |

Take it from me, I used to be just like you when I was 15. You really do not want to be eating that few of calories even if you are losing weight because it only sets you up for failure. I am 19 now and my metabolism is shot. I'm worse off then I ever started. Change your ways before its too late. Gradually up your calories every week. The good thing is that you realize you are making unhealthy choices, which is good that you see what you are doing that is hurtful so now you can focus on learning how to improve it. Instead of eating 600 calories worth of junk food, eat 1200 of healthy food. You are in no way fat. If you are dissatisfied with the way your body looks, think about whether or not your expectations are realistic? We will never have model bodies. Since you lost so much weight so suddenly, you very well likely have no muscle which makes you look jiggly. It's not fat. Start exercising to tone your muscles. However if you're exercising you're going to need to up the calories first, because your body will not be able to handle a work out with out any fuel. |

Although it is true that weight loss does not necessarily equal happiness, it is also true that the success of weight loss does. Feeling proud of yourself for your accomplishment and no longer living in the insecurities of your weight are both so rewarding. Weight loss will not fix all the problems of your life, but it will definitely make you feel better about yourself when you've finally been able to take hold of your health. |

Your BMI is 19. Any thing less than 18.5 is underweight. If you even lose four pounds, you will be underweight. And under is not a synonym for healthy. |
