Everyone that I have met who has been a member of one of these groups has either left without the desired results or has joined repeatedly, still without the desired results. I personally feel that it expensive and doesn't work. I also don't understand the red and green days. I don't think the calorific value comes into it? If not, I don't understand how you track how much you have actually eaten. My colleagues and I took part in a weight loss thing at work, we all were weighed once a week and all put £1 in each week. The person who lost the most weight by the agreed date was given all of the money that we had put in. We had the social aspect of it and the added bonus of possibly 'winning' your money back plus more. |

| Weight Loss | So tired all the time... | Jul 16 2009 23:07 (UTC) |

Get a blood test. A year or two ago I was REALLY tired, absolutely exhausted, struggling at work etc. I went to the docs a few times and always got the same response, that I needed to rest etc. I kept going back to see different docs and in the end the one I normally go to see sent me for blood tests. I could tell that it was more of a way to keep me quiet, however the day after the blood test the doc called me back and said he wanted to see me that day. He informed me that my liver function test was abnormally high - not as high as what you would expect in an alcoholic for example, but way too high for someone of my age. He said it was most likely due to a virus that my body was fighting against, but I had to go back a fortnight later and have another blood test to check. If it was still high I would have to be checked out for cirrosis, hepatitis and any other type of liver problem. When I had the second test, it came back at the top end of the normal range so was given the all clear. It is likely to be nothing, you might just be run down or getting over a virus or something, but a blood test may show up any problems that you aren't aware of or can rule out a lot of things to ease your mind. |

| Weight Loss | Burn Meter Q | Jul 12 2009 12:16 (UTC) |
|
The little figure is what you will have been expected to burn by the end of the day (midnight) and is based on the information you put into the settings (activity level etc) So mine, for example, says Total Estimate: 1840 cal. The big number will keep changing throughout the day as it is clocking up the amount you are expected to burn as the day goes on. So mine at the moment is showing as 934 cal as I am about 1/2 way through the day. I wouldn't worry about the bigger burn number as it is the total for the day that is more important. So long as, at the end of the day, there is a deficit between the smaller burn figure and the bigger eat meter figure you should lose weight (or alternatively, if you wanted to gain, the eat meter figure is higher than the small burn meter figure). |

I like the new look. I have a fringe too, so my only comment is that I think they tend to look better when they are not so straight (as in straightened with irons). An hour or so after I've done mine it looks better, a bit more natural. Unless you are going for the really dramatic sharpe edged look. If you aren't too sure yourself, I wouldn't worry, it'll grow really quick. You can always pin it back if you decide to grow it out. |

I've noticed this morning that mine is working again :) What I have done is to go into the tagged item, click the 'values per 100g' before putting the weight in, and then it reduces the values down to match the weight before I add it to the log. |

I've got stretch marks on my hips too. I don't know where they came from, I think just from a growth spurt or something. I have weighed probably up to 25lbs more than I do now at some point over the past 8 years but I've had them for as long as I can remember. Other than my bf, no one has commented, and he was only asking out of curiosity, but this is only because I haven't worn anything that shows them off. They don't bother me, but after I've lost some more weight and be a bit more confident with clothes, if they start to bother me, I'm going to try that Bio Oil stuff. It's supposed to be good but I don't know how long it takes to notice a fade. But no, I don't think you should feel weird to be upset, I would have been! I'm sure she would have been upset if the tables were turned and you had made a comment about her. Ignore her, get your favourite summer clothes packed and enjoy your holiday :) If she says anything again, tell her that her comments aren't appriciated and to keep them to herself in future. |

Original Post by cellulitedelight: In England it's similar, you have to pay Council Tax which covers rubbish collections, amongst other things. The 'rules' differ between the councils. In ours, it used to be collected once a week, you'd put your bags out in the street, they'd come with their rubbish truck and they would take it away. A few years ago the government gave a big push to recycling. We were issued with a wheeley bin for 'household' rubbish and a little green box for glass. Red bags are for paper, green for food tins/drinks cans and plastic bottles (and ONLY bottles, any other plastic is a no no). Everything else goes in the wheeley bin in black bags. They still come every week, except now they only empty the wheeley bins once a fortnight and only the recycling once a fortnight, on alternative weeks. Recycling, you can put out as much as you want as far as I can tell, so long as it is in the right bag/box. Household is another story; if the wheeley bin is too full and the lid wont fully close, it doesn't get taken. If the bags are on the ground and not in the wheeley, it doesn't get taken. If the bin isn't positioned right on the boundary of your property, it doesn't get taken. If you put it out too late, it doesn't get taken. Not a problem, until you realise that you then have to somehow fit another two weeks worth of rubbish into the bin. And to top it off, they regularly 'forget' to collect it. So then you have to call the council, explain it all, then they check their list to make sure that you weren't reported for any of the reasons why they wouldn't collect, and then they tell you to leave the bin in the street for someone to collect in the next working 48hours - which stretches to Tuesday as our collection day is Friday.
It's all ok though, because at Christmas you are allowed one extra household rubbish bag which can be tied neatly and placed next to the wheeley. That's the Christmas Spirit!! |

| Weight Loss | Calorie confusion is 700 a day okay for me? | May 27 2009 23:02 (UTC) |

It is advised that you shouldnt lose more than 1% of your body weight per week, so based on your info you should only lose up to 1.45lbs per week. To do this, you should be ok to burn off around 725 calories more than you eat each day to be considered 'safe', but you shouldn't eat less to make the deficit bigger, you should eat what you're aiming for, say 1400 cals, then exercise more to make the deficit bigger. |

If you want to lose weight, then you don't need to eat more on days you work out as you will just be eating back the calories you are burning. I'll use my figures to explain as I don't know what you meters are set to; My daily eat goal is 1376 cals and my burn estimate if I don't manually log anything is 1640 cals. If I did actually eat exactly 1376 cals every day, I will have a deficit of 264 cals every day which would work out to about 1/2 lb loss per week. If I want to lose 1lb a week, I will have to exercise to increase my burn to 1876 (to get my 500 deficit from my eat meter). If I burned 1876 but ate 1612 cals, I would still only have a deficit of 264 so I would be back down to losing about 1/2 lb per week. If you are looking to maintain your weight, for example once you reach your goal weight, then you would eat more on the days you exercise so that you are burning the same as what you are eating to remain consistant. |

| New Members | I'm new here and I have a question.......? | May 27 2009 21:52 (UTC) |

Your green meter is the eat meter and as you add your food to the log, it will increase. The little number at the top of this is your daily goal for the number of calories that you should eat by the end of the day. The blue meter is your burn meter, the little number at the top is what you should have burned off by the end of the day. The big number in the blue meter will keep going up during the day to show you how much you have burned off as you go along. It will have the average amount for the settings that you gave when you filled all your details in, but if you then went walking for an hour or went on a bike ride and then logged that, the total burned will go up even further because it is an 'extra' exercise. If, for example, your daily eat goal was 1500 cals, but you actually burned off 2000 through your daily activities and additional exercise etc, you will have a deficit of 500 calories. It is said that a daily deficit of 500 cals per day will give you a 1lb per week loss of weight. If you want to lose weight, you should keep the amount you eat less than the amount you burn off, not necessarily by 500. The smaller the deficit, the longer if will take to lose the weight, but it is better to lose slower and steadier over a longer period than quickly. I saw the other post with you age/weight etc on it. Obviously, you are still young and still growing, so be sensible with what you are eating. Make sure you are eating enough calories, lots of fruit and veg etc, and that you are getting enough exercise. It is healthier to burn off the calories by exercising rather than not eating enough to begin with. I hope that this helps make things clearer? |

I just put your details into http://www.phord.com/cc/ with the activity level as 'Light Activity' and that has said that you should eat a minimum of 1365 cal p/day and the burn off the deficit, so if you ate 1365 cals and burned off 1877 cals per day, you should lose 1.02 lbs per week. I found this calculator easier to understand. |

| Foods | Fruit - include the core/peel in the weight? | May 27 2009 17:15 (UTC) |
|
I am the same, things that I eat without the peel, I try to weigh without but it can be difficult. I have banana on my breakfast every morning, I peel it, chop it up and weigh it when i put it with my cereal. Normally, the banana's in the bunch are all about the same size so I can pretty much guess the weight it I don't have access to scales, if say I took a banana to work with me. If I were you and were eating a lot of fruit on the go, I would do a bit of a trial at home. Eg. weigh an orange/banana etc before, peel it and weigh afterwards and see what the difference is. If you can work out a rough % per fruit, then you could weigh the whole fruit in the morning, take it to work/where ever and take off an estimated amount when you log it based on your % findings. Or you could log the whole weight, but then it would over calculate as you said. :) |

Thanks for the replies everyone
running_man - I get in a flap a bit when I run, I don't enjoy it dkn - Rollerblading isn't a big thingas far as I know) where I live (UK) expect for more stunt kind of stuff. Although I think I'd enjoy iceskating but the nearest rink is about 25 miles away, I went when I was younger on the odd birthday party trip. jef9up - I'm completely lacking in interests! I just feel I work, come home, cook, laze around, go bed. I don't feel I achieve anything, but at the same time I can't think of anything I want to do! I get so frustrated with myself. frokusblakah - I'm sort of an on/off gamer. I go through phases. Had a quick go on Left4Dead with the bf earlier but that'll probably it for a little while. jenningermany - I don't think I could ever sky dive!! Haha! I do enjoy travelling, but that'll have to wait as not much money at the mo! The places I really want to go to tend to be expensive places! I enjoy reading but I don't know, I think because you do it on your own, I don't feel like doing it. I was thinking of learning a language, I did French and German at school, but remember only very small bits. kysserminfrites - What kind of dancing do you do? Just round the house or salsa etc? |

In total, I had 15 (4x each lower ear, scaffolding in one ear, hood, navel, tongue, labret, 2x nose both on the same side) but I took out my labret (rubbed away my gum - would rather lose the piercing than my teeth!) and my navel (kept catching on trousers and never really healed). Only wear 2x lower ear studs now too. The rest remain! I had both nose piercings done at the same time and they took a while to heal, but got there in the end! |

Oooo thanks everyone :) mrs dagle - I got 4 stars on the 10 min hula hooping, I can really feel in compared to the step aerobics, so I logged the stepping as low impact and the hooping as high impact. elrooto - I didn't know what Calisthenics was! I know now though :) amandief - Thanks for the link. I like the hooping, free step and boxing the most. I can't get on with the jogging, my Mii doesn't seem to move no matter how I jog. Either that, or I make it run too fast and get told off!!
I saw quite a bit about weighted hula hoops when I was trying to find out how many cals burned... I think I might invest in one. |

| Fitness | Pedometer counting oddly | May 18 2009 21:31 (UTC) |

Some pedometers do over calculate your steps just from your general movements. I had one years ago where it would count up the steps even if I was sitting down. I recently bought a Silva Radio pedometer from Amazon (UK) for £19.50 (about $30), not sure whether they are for sale where you live? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silva-Radio-Pedometer -with/dp/B000K2U4JK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s= electronics&qid=1238699231&sr=8-7 It counts steps, distance, time and calories. You programme in your gender, height, weight and stride so that it is more accurate. The thing I like about this pedometer over other ones I have tried is that it doesn't count until you have hit your 7th consecutive step. Once you hit the 7th step it counts the 7 you did then the 8th, 9th, 10th, etc. This stops it from counting your general movements. Although it is probably more expensive than the one you have got, I've had no problems with it so far, I find it to be very accurate and for what I consider a reasonable price. It is fairly big (about 3" x 2.5" x1") and solid, it has a belt clip and comes in different varieties. One has a radio built in with headphones, another a pulse monitor and another doubles up as an attack alarm. I would suggest having a look around, if you see one in a store, give it a shake and see how easily it clocks up steps. Some work by having a ball bearing inside and the slightest knock will count a step. But on the other hand, I don't think you need to spend a fortune to get a good one. |

| Weight Loss | New to site and have a couple of questions. | May 14 2009 21:37 (UTC) |
2 |
Hi Erik On a different forum topic, there was a link posted (http://www.phord.com/cc/) which I thought was very useful. You input your details and it will advise you on how many calories your body will need etc. From my understanding, the 'EAT' cals are the amount your body needs to survive, the 'BURN' cals are based on the activity level you set and indicates what you can expect to burn in the day. It then shows the amount you can expect to lose on a weekly basis if you ate the 'EAT' figure and burned off the 'BURN' figure on a daily basis. It says below that you shouldn't lose more than 1% of your body weight per week, so you should be ok to lose 2.9lbs per week, but as a general rule, the recommendation to maintain once you reach your goal is 1-2lbs per week whilst you are losing. It also says that a deficit of 500 cals per day between the amount you eat compared to the amount you burn should result in a 1lb a week loss. You should eat the amount your body needs to survive and then exercise more to burn off the deficit.
I would recommend that you work out the amount of calories you should be eating a day, then have a look at the types of foods you eat on a regular basis and see how many calories are in them. It might be a case that you just need to reduce the portions (this is what I found). There is also a recipe analyis thing on this site, if you go into Foods then New Recipe, pop the no. of portions and ingredients in and it will give you an indication of the calories - Very useful if you cook from scratch rather than using prepacked stuff.
Not sure where you live, I'm in the UK and frozen veg is cheap cheap in comparison to fresh. I eat a lot more fruit now, compared to before joining CC, but it is expensive.
Then there is exercise. I'm rubbish in this area, I have to really force myself to do this as it is something that has never interested me. Maybe involve the kids? Bit of football in the garden, swimming if you have time at the weekends, have a bit of a dance around the house (no one will see!)? It's one of those things, if you don't enjoy it, you'll struggle to do it.
Anyway, I hope that you find this info of help and good luck! :) |

| Foods | HOW MUCH on groceries EACH WEEK? | May 10 2009 12:13 (UTC) |

I also live in the UK and $50 is approx £33 at the current exchange rate... If I could spend this little, I would be incredibly happy. I buy for myself and my bf, we are seriously trying to cut back on our food budget but it is hard to get out of the old routine. We would easily spend £85-100 ($130-150) a week on food, household stuff and maybe a magazine or two, but this was before I joined CC and before seeing sense! Not sure whether food in the UK is just generally more expensive(?) Fresh fruit and vegetables are ridiculously priced, rarely look edible and go off within days. Frozen alternatives are much better in price and quality I find. I don't know of any greengrocers local to me, there was one where I live but it closed down within a month. The only place I know (other than the chain supermarkets) to buy fruit and veg is at the market in the city centre which, although is only 5 miles from me, is absolutely manic at the weekends and I can't go in the week as I am working. The UK government is very much 'get your 5 a day' in the last couple of years, but they certainly don't make it easier to buy the stuff. As windra06 said, the burgers, pizzas etc are much cheaper. |
