I'd like to try, this will be my first challenge! Put me down for 50 miles in the month of June and option 1, my upper body strength is horrible, I could use some work. My only problem is I often find topics and then have a hard time finding them again, is there anyway to bookmark this forum and find my way home??
Never mind, I found the "Tag it" option =0 - Happy walking everyone! |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | I want a healthier lifestyle before baby #2! | May 14 2009 17:22 (UTC) |

I know how you feel about still have baby #1's weight and wanting to start out with # 2. I am already there. I am 10 weeks with #2 and have 30 more lbs to start out with than I did with #1. I am trying not to get discouraged and watch what I eat and keep an eye on the weight gain. I came to CC just before I found out I was pregnant and I was trying to lose weight. This site really helped me to understand what I was intaking and where I could cut stuff. I tried to get he diet down before I started excersizing too. A good power walk to the park or store on a nice day is a great place to start. I have also been doing squats in the bathroom at work just to get the blood pumping. A few minutes here and there really add up. Keep logging everything you eat, if you need write it down and enter it in later. Then just get moving, even if you dance around the living room with the little one fore 10 min - Use the activity tracker and you will see the extra calorie burn add up =) |

| Foods | Gum chewers | May 07 2009 20:32 (UTC) |

Original Post by poofyball: Have to agree with poofyball, Stride lasts forever! Even after the flavor is gone, which takes a while, the consistance is still very chewy. I have never chewed a piece long enough to have it fall apart and I have chewed a single piece for half a day or more. I typically like gum to curb the craving to munch on food so afert breakfast would chew it until lunch, set it aside and come back to it after lunch and chew until dinner. If I wanted the flavor boost I would get a new piece but usually would only need one piece a day. Good thing considering a 15 pack is $1.25 or more! What happened to the 59 cent day?

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Handling comments about appearance | May 07 2009 17:25 (UTC) |

EKP - Those comments are harassment and you dont have to "Deal with it" just because you're pregnant. Talk with a supervisor or higher up about who is saying what and how uncomfortable you are. If you don't bring it to someones attention now if will just get worse, you have another 30 or so weeks to go. I would then start keeping a log of who said what and when and if it didn't stop after a supervisor was told I would start talking to an attorney. You shouldn't have to feel like that at work especially when you are going through this very emotional time. Those type of comments are absolutely unapporpriate and unacceptable! Don't let people at work treat you like that. Co workers might scoff you for "telling on them" but who cares ,they can heep their head down and into their work and leave you alone. It just gets me irrate, I have been there and tried to suck it up in hopes that it would just go away and it doesn't. Don't stand for it! Funny I should find this post today and leave a comment. I just had my first unwanted pregnancy comment at work. I stepped to into the supply room and a guy standing in the hall infront of another employee says" Hey, what are you doing there PREGGY?" I ignored his reference to me and told him what I was doing only for him to repeat himself as I walked off "PREGGY". I just kept my back to him and started walking. I can't believe how asinine some people can be! I hope he got the hint when I didn't acknowledge his comment I can't promise that I will be professional if I have to confront him. It has got to be the hormones because I am raging about this! |

My daughter had just turned 1 a month before we took a 10-11 hour road trip. We left early in the morning - 4am - and tried to get as much driving in before her typical wake time of 11 am. When we got her into the car at 4 she was of course awake for a little while, maybe and hour she then fell fast asleep until around 11am. After she woke we made a pit stop for some grub and to stretch our legs. We still had a few hours to go so we loaded back up and made sure to have plenty of snacks and entertainment for her, books and toys and we took turns in the back seat to sit with her so she had company. My daughter sleeps well in the car seat and doesn't loathe going for a ride so that may have made the difference. Not saying there weren't a few fussy moments but we tried to keep her attention to something she liked. I think the key was driving during her normal sleep time so she could sleep through most of the trip. Flying or driving one way or another will work better for you but you probably won't know until you get to know your baby's temperments. Which it sounds like you will have plenty of time to do since you are planning so far in advanced. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Had preeclampsia with my first am I doomed to have it again with my second? | Apr 28 2009 17:05 (UTC) |

So I had my first appt yesterday and I am 8 weeks based off of my last period. The Dr.'s office ultrasound machine is a little old and I didn't have a full blatter so they wern't able to do any measurements for an exact date but the heart is beating, the feet nubs are moving and there is only one! Yeah!!! As far as the preeclampsia, Doc said we would have to just watch out for symptoms and keep an eye on it. In her 10 years she has never seen it show up before the second half of pregnancy so until there are definant signs, protein in urine and high blood pressure, those will be monitored closely as well as headaches, rapid weight gain and intense cramping. She did say it is not a guarentee that you will have it in all pregnancies if you have it in one but that you are at a hightened risk. A good diet low in sugar, low stress and plenty of rest can help keep it a bay but sometime it is just genetics. A family history of diabeties and high blood pressure work against you. I don't have that but I do have one hell of a sweet tooth! Now I just need to find some good sugar free desserts ;) |

Bier - You always seem to say it best. Knowing you are not alone or the only one to have gone through an experience takes some of the fear out of it. Family and friends always like to comment on my health and well being as if they are doctors themselves and know it all. My Brother and In=Laws are convinced I will have it again and will need bed rest. They criticize me from every thing I eat to any excersize I do. It is refreshing to hear from someone who has lived it that it is possible to have it once but not again. |

Thanks, that is a great link. I'm probably just off on my pregnancy worrying thinking I have developed it this early on but if there is anything I can do to ward it off that is exactally what I am going to do! Thanks again for the link it is going to help me write a novel of questions for my doctor =) |

Kids can be so cruel! I find that those type of comments really fire me up and make me want to do something about it. You're headed in the right direction. Just don't let a bad day or week get you down. If others can lose hundreds of pounds and completely change their shape it is possible for anyone. Keep it up !

Chalk it up to a learning lession and see what you can do differently for tomorrow. Working out and having a low calorie dinner would probably make you feel better about it but if you don't, don't beat yourself up. See what you are eatting that has all the calories and substitute it for a food with fewer calories tomorrow- =) |
