Hi kerry When you look at your food log for today, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll see a box that says "date range". There are two circles you can click, one is for today and the second one lets you select the dates you want to look at. Then right under that you click "display report". Let us know if that doesn't answer your question! |

I'm a psych major but have to take algebra to take chem for a particular job I'm after. I hate algebra!!! I can get through it but it's so boring I avoid it as much as I can. I'd rather take statistics again. |

Well congratulations on losing the weight! I can imagine how frustrating that must feel when you feel like you should be enjoying the new you only to feel like you've found another roadblock. Whatever happens I hope it works out for you, and remember the strength it took to get where you are now and the positive example you've already set for your daughter! |

I'm turned off by the sodium content as well, but I like to keep em around when I want something quick. Healthy Choices new pumpkin squash ravioli frozen dinner is pretty tasty, I'd definitely buy that again. It'd be good supplementing with extra asparagus on the side. |

pickles...i always think they're gona taste good to me, but when I try em I just don't care for em. Gerkins are really good though. Tomatoes by themselves I don't really like, but if they're in a sandwich or something I don't mind lol Oh yeah, I don't like hummus either. I tried a couple different flavors, but I just don't get it. Nice to see I'm not the only one ; ) |

I'm quoting this from a research based source: "Another approach to water intake is the "8 x 8 rule" — drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day (about 1.9 liters). The rule could also be stated, "drink eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day," as all fluids count toward the daily total. Though the approach isn't supported by scientific evidence, many people use this basic rule as a guideline for how much water and other fluids to drink.......if you drink enough fluid so that you rarely feel thirsty and produce 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) or more of colorless or slightly yellow urine a day, your fluid intake is probably adequate." http://www.mayoclinic.com/print/water/NU00283 /METHOD=print Of course if you're in hot or humid weather or are exercising, up the intake. You also want to space your water intake over at least several glasses throughout the day. |

Oh and the beach? I personally wouldnt feel comfortable wearing a swimsuit right now, but you wouldn't have to ask me twice to go to the beach anyway! Of course you can't force him to go, but maybe suggest to him to go on a bike ride or walk along the boardwalk with you. Besides that I also simply enjoy just vegging out under an umbrella, you don't need a swimsuit to do that lol! Or maybe suggest a less crowded time, like after labor day or in early May? You're right it's not your responsibility, there's only so much you can do to help ppl unless they want to help themselves! |

I was not brought up on healthy eating for the most part, and was not taught portion control when I was younger and my brother and I always had a lot of calorie dense (and usually nutritionless food) to munch on. My mom would have veggies at dinner half the time, but often they were canned which I know know is not good. It consequently goes to say that she is overweight, has diabetes, as well as cardiovascular issues and my brother is overweight and still seems to have a crappy diet. My dad is the thin toned runner type and he usually eats my moms dinner and does his own thing the other part of the day. No offense to my parents, but I think they both could have done my brother and I a lot better to teach us healthy eating habits. I also think I learned from my mom emotional eating, yay. But I'm the only one out of my brother and mom thats trying to live healthier. So yeah I definitely think you've learned habits that are hard to change, but the good news is you can do something about it! I know even eating habits can be broken with time and effort, at least most of them. I used to drink a lot of that iced tea (learned at home) and milk (ok, but still drinking calories throughout day). Several yrs ago I just started making my self drink water more instead, and now it's all I like to drink usually. Sure I like fruit juice and that stuff but I guess the point is that I don't feel deprived not having that around, its just "normal". Focus on little changes, not just the vague idea of "eating healthy". If you think your mom or brother would be willing, I definitely also encourage you like the other guys said to invite them to join in on activities with you (weight watchers, taking walks, anything!) |

I read somewhere that you really don't have to go by the 8x8 rule for drinking water necessarily, especially if you are eating a lot of water rich foods. It said that you should just drink enough water till your pee is fairly clear, and that its not necessary to drink so much you're always going to the bathroom. Maybe you don't need as much water as you think you do since you're eating all those fruits and veggies? |

Na...weird to me is more like anything that's just unpractical to find in most areas. I never tried alfalfa but if they don't have that in my grocery store I bet they'd have it maybe in one of the health food stores around me. Had something in mind with alfalfa? : ) |

I agree that since you are a teen and in your healthy weight range I'd be very careful not to eat fewer calories than you're supposed to. You can damage brain cells and upset your bodies metabolic processes among other things by undereating and yoyo dieting. What exactly is it about your body that's bothering you? Eat at least around 1500 like Kukua said and my suggestion would be to focus on strengthening and toning your body rather than losing weight. Perhaps try a yoga class and see if you like it. It looks easy but it can really be a good workout and good for taming stress too. Believe me, when you notice the difference in your strength you will love it! If you do try to strength train, you will need adequate (but not excessive) protein in your diet as well as other nutrients for the muscle to be rebuilt successfully, so the healthier you can eat the better. Increasing your muscle will also increase your body's resting metabolic rate, meaning you will burn more calories even when your just sitting on your butt reading these forums ; ). Good luck! |

Hi there eye hiei Welcome to the club ; ) I'm surprised you perceive yourself as the dreaded fat friend, cuz by your weight and height you don't sound all that overweight. But I know the feeling I guess, even when I was lighter than I am now and just had like 10 or 20 lbs to lose I knew I wasn't overweight but I felt "chubby" lol and that's just about as bad. I don't know what you usually eat or what your activity level is so I can't guess why you can't get past 140. A trainer might really help you since you seem pretty close to your recommmended weight. I hear the less you have to lose the more of a pain it is to lose so I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. There's plenty of help here so don't be afraid to ask questions! |

Hiya newhabits Funny how you said about your mom not supporting you to, I used to have the same problem. Not that my moms not a good person but she didn't raise me to eat healthy and she still doesn't cook too healthy now. I can kind of sense like she's bothered when she knows I'm trying to eat healthy and exercise, especially since she has been overweight for years and wants to lose it but doesn't really want to put the effort into it when the going gets tough. Does your mom pressure you a lot to eat foods you shouldn't? Well I try to tell myself don't be discouraged if you eat more than you think you should some days. I think it's easy for us to say we're gonna stick to a plan to do this and that, but it takes some time to change a LIFESTYLE. I relate to how the weight just creeps up on you. If you pick foods that you can find the info for to keep track of on your food log, that will give you a great working base to see how the foods you are picking now balance out as far as cal, fat, protein, sodium, etc. I like to look at my analysis of my food log for the day and then if there are problems I can see where it's from and think of ways to change this. Just curious, what do you do when you say you give in too easily? |

Hi newhabits, I just double checked it (the calorie target tool) and did it for Oct as my goal date and with moderate activity and it gave me about 1400. I also just had a physical and the doctor recommended 1300-1500 to lose 1-2lbs a week. Since both sources seem to match up I figured that must be reasonable. I can't say for sure how this will go long term, but I can say I've learned more than I thought I would in just several days with factoring my calories, fat, protein, and sodium (wow does sodium add up fast!). |

Carbs alone do not keep me satisfied! I find that mixing in a reasonable amount of solid food protein and especially fat in my meals definitely makes a difference in how long I go before I'm hungry again. For example, if I just eat cereal with milk I will be hungry right away, but if I incorporate eggs or something like in my breakfast that I do a lot better. Also, I had a lean meat burger with a little cheese on a whole wheat bun tonight for dinner and that lasted me a while too. I usually use high fiber foods for the rest of the meal for balance and to give me something to munch on. An apple or something like that doesn't work too well for me, but salad can. Is salad ok for your teeth? If so, I'd recommend a romaine or similar salad with chicken pieces and sprinkled parmesan cheese and a lowfat ceasar or ranch dressing. You will have the salad to help initially fill you up and the protein and fat for satiety. If you are eating at least several small meals a day, a smoothie would work well for one of those I think. My favorite is Stonyfield organic vanilla lowfat yogurt with frozen strawberries and frozen peaches and blend, or Stonyfield banilla yogurt with frozen strawberries. If you don't want the added sugar, perhaps sub plain lowfat yogurt and some non-sugar sweetener and maybe a bit of pure vanilla extract. Maybe better yet for satiety would be blending frozen banana, peanut butter, and milk and/or plain yogurt and perhaps a squirt of chocolate syrup. |
