I read somewhere that you really don't have to go by the 8x8 rule for drinking water necessarily, especially if you are eating a lot of water rich foods. It said that you should just drink enough water till your pee is fairly clear, and that its not necessary to drink so much you're always going to the bathroom. Maybe you don't need as much water as you think you do since you're eating all those fruits and veggies?

hi Jamroo, I eat ALOT of veggies and fruit which are all water based.. hehe :)

Foods Eating out.. Apr 02 2009

The way I manage eating out is as follows

  • Get as many vegetables/salads on the plate as possible.  Start with a vegetable soup.  Choose vegetable-based dishes.  Order vegetable/salad side-dishes etc.  This makes a meal bulky and filling for relatively few calories and you don't look like the "saddo on the diet".
  • Limit the carbohydrates on the plate (rice, pasta, noodles, potatoes, bread etc.) to a serving about the size of a tennis ball.
  • Limit the protein (meat, fish, eggs, beans) on the plate to a serving about the size of the palm of your hand.
  • Ask for sauces and dressings to be served separately and use them sparingly
  • Look for 'grilled', 'steamed', 'baked'... in preference to 'fried', 'battered' and 'sauteed'.  Use your commonsense.

I don't eat dessert normally but if you fancy one see if the place has fresh fruit salad or offer to share a light dessert with a friend.    The above works in almost all food occasions with the possible exception of fast food joints where vegetables are usually non-existent.  But it's a good way to manage everything from a (proper) restaurant, to a lunch buffet, to dinner at a friend's house and get a good balance.   Other ideas... eat slowly, chat to your friends, sip water during the meal.... this means you're less likely to overeat.   TIP.... don't sweat about counting the calories if you don't eat out very often.

Hay thanks for the portion sizes, (im writting it into my lil diet black book that i keep in my hand bag at all times).

your a very wise lady !! Laughing

I second gi-jane - hear hear!

I usually look up caloric information about the restaurant in advance, so I have an idea of what fits into my meal plan/what doesn't.  Of course, this doesn't work if the restaurant your friends choose is meant to be a surprise, or if it's one of those restaurants that are only in your area.  If you're in the US, CalorieKing makes a great calorie/carb/fat counter book and features popular restaurants/fast food places and their dishes and calorific info.  Very handy!

Asking for a styrofoam container or "doggie bag" before being served so you can measure out appropriate portions is always a lifesaver too, or asking the server to serve you half of the meal and bring you the other half in a container to go when you're done.  Then you get to enjoy a fabulous meal, and enjoy it later the next day as lunch or dinner!

Hi that Half Half idea is great! i hate it when they bring out HUGE servings it either destroys your appetite and you hardly eat anything and fell like youve just wast $20 or it makes you feel like youve eaten too much because you do..

Thanks so much for the tips!

they are good fats indeed, you know you dont need to cut them out of your diet completely, you can eat as many as 8 of any nut as a snack and they will send a hormone to your brain telling you, that your full.. so if you feel peekish have 8 nuts and consider them a helping treat

ps just dont scoff them lol and try stay away from sulted nuts..Laughing

i haven't had anything like that before, but instead of going to the doctor, why don't you just go to the chemist and ask what they have off the shelf that will help with your gum problem..

i don't want to seem rude but you really should go to the doctor because gingivitis is a disease, and at the end of the day you do have to get it checked out or it will get worse..

just dont want it to get worse thats all :)

Yeah the Major part of my diet is fresh fruit and vegtables sticks lol sad i know, lol, but yesterday i had an uncle tobys museli bar, i ended up finding it after hours on the net... it turned out to be 126cl.. i nearly died is it just me or is that high for something which is ment to be good for you? it had tones of sugar and everything! well i wont have it again.. but then again im comparing it to fresh fruits and veggies so i might be a bit tough on it..

I really wanna try a diet which is not packaged at all! so as you guys have mentioned it will be alot easier to log..

p.s what do you guys do when you eat out how do you count those calories?

anyway thanks guys!

Hee hee.....  picturing an obese cro-magnon sitting in his cave with his cute little loin cloth grunting for his minions to bring him more food!

Still, I imagine that gluttony (and related obesity) came about sooner then we think.  I'm sure there are some studies out on the Net somewhere.  All I know is that I must have an extra strong 'survival' gene!  Sealed

hahahah your cute "All I know is that I must have an extra strong 'survival' gene!  Sealed"

i have to disagree with the thought of people being obese in back then. you have to remeber alot of there food were natural, they didnt have the chemicals we do today to enhance food, and wreck our bodies. there banquets were fruits vegtables meats and wines. sure there still would have been large people but not what we have today. i very highly doubt they had obesesity and if they did only in rare cases and it could of been a medical condition.

I've been off cigarettes for almost 16 months.  I used Chantix too and I highly recommend it.  The only side effect I has was what I referred to as interesting dreams.  Anyway, I put on 30 pounds pretty quickly and didn't ever realize it because I had long since stopped weighing myself since I already knew that I was overweight.  I restarted my program on here on June and I've lost about 45 pounds to date.  I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that when you stop smoking, your metabolism slows by 10% but regular exercises causes it to speed up by the same percentage.  But you know that doesn't matter.  If you follow the program here you will lose weight.  Any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask!  There's always someone around here to help!  Good luck to you!

If by interesting dreams you mean, interesting I had those dreams and so did my friend.  Chantix is awesome!

I gained a few pounds when I quit but I had to sort of get my hands around my cravings.  It's been four weeks for me and I stopped Chantix about half-way through week three.   I just didn't need it anymore.

My advice would be to stay mindful, recognize a craving for what it is and be nice to yourself.

hhahahaha on a regular basis i have interesting dreams "wink wink" hahahah but that cracked me up..

  3. being too lazy
  4. being too lazy

my motivation is

  • wanting to look good and not feel uncomfortable in my clothes.
  • my boyfriend comenting on me.
  • when going shopping going straight for the size 8 (australian, its like the smallest)
  • and this sounds mean but being thinner and/or having the better body then my friends. (vain i know)

oh, so u must be about 4'5?

don't worry about the person aboveSealed, I'm 5'1 and 48-47kgs is the ideal weight where as you said "don't have a spare tire"

listen weight loss and maintaining is not about diets! you can not be on a diet for ever its not good for your body! BUT what you can do is always choosing the healthier option and only have a treat once a week or something like that..

if you eat healthy all the time and excercise regulary you will be able to maintain it with ease..

good luck Laughing

p.s a trick i use when i do have treats is that i only eat half of it..

Weight Loss always hungry Mar 30 2009

When you exercise your body chews up all the food that's in there to get the energy. i don't know much about the details but i know i get very hungry after exercising... um try a protein shake (one for assisting in weight loss NOT gain) or maybe your too dehydrated, researchers have found out that when we feel thirsty or dehydrated we tend to mistake it for being hungry, they say ladies to alot more then men.. and so when i feel hungry i have a big glass of water and usually I'm full but if i still feel hungry i go and have a snack.

and i totally know what you mean when it comes down to salads.. have not had one salad where it has filled me up.but what i do know is put chicken, tuna or meat in my salad.. (obviously not fried or roast) that fills me up..

i struggle alot to with feeling hungry when i exercises but at the end of the day i put mind over matter because i don't want to ruin any of my hard work.

i probably haven't made much sense but i hope some of my nonsense has helped :)

Good Luck
