| Foods | What are you doing for lunch today? | Jun 23 2009 17:03 (UTC) |

For lunch today I had some wholemeal organic cracker type things (70 cal for 4) with some caremalised onion hummus (50cal for 1 tbsp) and cucumber (like 20cal?) with a bottle of water. Then some strawberries and raspberries for pudding (bout 60cal) so... total that was about 200 and YUMMY! I highly reccommend it :) |

Hiya, My name is Clemmie and I’m from the UK, but in September I am going to start University – and before I do want to lose all the weight that I put on over my gap year. I’m moving up to London and want to be looking my best and feeling confident to settle into my new life! I am 19, as I took a gap year before starting uni, but other than that I think we want pretty much the same thing! Clemmie |

Well, yes now that I think about it, but whenever you talk to someone about stomach toning etc - its all about crunches - so that kind of gets drummed into you. |

Your last point made me chuckle - and i guess thats very true! Also with regards to spending a lot of time hunched up - however I am a dancer so am a little obsessive about my posture - my core is good, I just wanted to tone up y stomach and hip area a bit more! Planks and pushups then - thanks for the advice! |

Is that really true that if you do the same type of exercise every day your body will get used to it and you burn less calories? Surely you're doing the same amount of exercise and hence would burn the same amount of calories? |

Hi, Thanks everyone for your replies – this has turned into a really interesting thread and was really useful to read through. I am running a calorie deficit and working out most days, hopefully as I lose weight I will see the extra fat around my hips disappear, I don’t want to go out shopping and spend money on bigger pants – as the ones I have used to be fine, with no muffin top at all, and I am determined to get back into them (cant afford to go and buy a whole new wardrobe just to last me until I lose weight!) Anyway - I was looking up ab exercises in general – and read something (though I cant seem to find it now I’m looking for a reference – typical!) about it being bad for your back to do crunches etc in the morning – something to do with fluid gathering in your back/spine somewhere overnight - I'm really annoyed I cant seem to find the article again to give a better idea of what it said. Anyway - has anyone heard anything along these lines? |

oooh this all got a little heated.. Apologies if I created some tension - as tebunie said, I was fairly calm when writing it - though a little confused as to why the thread had gone - but I feel this has been a good demonstration of how it is very difficult to convey a feeling using the written word!
Anyway, in response to some of the comments:
Tebunie: I object to your comment about “being only 98lbs and cheering on other girls for being too thin is pro-ana”. I think people are far too quick to use that word. There was no cheering involved, merely support – and I was definitely not promoting an anorexic diet. I do however fully take in your point about how the moderators do have the last say, and therefore while I respect their judgment, I was querying it. pearsnapples: I’m not going to be changing my goal weight either, this had made me think that while it is an acceptable weight for me, it isn’t for others, and therefore its probably best to keep it to myself, as hannahboots made a very good point about people who use this site to recover from ED. Hannahboots: As I said, your point about people recovering from ED was a very valid one. I apologize for this, as ignorantly it was something I hadn’t thought of. I also appreciate your comment about who judged me not to look underweight at 98lbs – the answer to that is both myself and people around me. Having brought my weigh up from much lower – people told me I looked a lot healthier; I started having a regular period and generally felt less tired and weak than I did at a lower weight. Now I have put more weight on I went back to feeling tired and sluggish. Since coming on here and changing my eating habits this has significantly reduced – which I will mainly attribute to this site making me more aware of nutritional content in food – and the need to be more active. |

I can’t believe it got deleted – jess_sun could you let us know when you have had a reply from the moderators? I completely agree with pearsnapples, as I think it was probably us they were referring to (as I think we were both aiming for 98lbs). It annoys me that people do not take into consideration other peoples build and shape, and become completely judgemental over the numbers involved – which give no true idea of whether or not the weight mentioned is healthy or not for the person involved. I for one tend to carry most of my weight around my middle, which as I’m sure you are all aware is unhealthy. My aim is to reduce this, and at a weight of 98lbs, or thereabouts, I do not look underweight (as I weighed that once before) I look much healthier than I do at the moment. I have a small frame, am not very tall, and contrary to what others might think, it is a healthy and sustainable weight for me. For other people to have the myopic view that this is somehow pro-anorexic behaviour shocks me, and I think undermines everything that this website is meant to stand for – the posting guidelines state that CC is to promote “healthy” weights, then maybe we should become less concerned about the numbers, and be a little slower to judge people and use the words “pro-anorexia”, and take more time to learn about the individuals involved. I am well aware this post will probably get deleted, as it contains a fully expressed opinion; however I urge the moderators to be a little more tolerant and not be so quick to put an end to valid discussions and support systems.

| Young Calorie Counters | Why do you Want to be Skinny? | Apr 07 2009 11:27 (UTC) |

I’ve been reading through all of these and I don’t understand that people are trying to say it’s not true that being thinner would make people happy. I genuinely believe that when I lose the weight I will be happier. I always used to weigh 98lbs, and was so happy – I wore whatever I wanted, wasn’t conscious of excess fat, or not being able to wear tight tops etc because I was scared I looked fat in them – and now, at 112lbs I’m not happy. I want to get back to being happy, which is being thinner. It’s not because people are telling me to, it’s because I want to – surely that’s perfectly logical? And if I do that through eating less and healthier, and exercising more – then I will be thinner, healthier and fitter… win win situation… |

| Hiya, I've just joined today and this post seemed like a good place to meet like-minded people. My stats are: Height: 5'4'' CW: 112 GW: 100 So yeah, thats about 10lbs I need to lose - I go to India at the end of April, so will want to have dropped a couple of pounds by then, and then I'm starting uni in September (im from the UK by the way) so want to be looking slender by then! I used to be 98lbs, but since leaving school (I'm now on a gap year, working) I've gained a lot, so I want to get back to a weight that I'm happy with. 100lbs will do for now, then maybe I'll lose those extra 2 to get back to 98 - depending on how I feel!! How's everyone doing? | |||
