Thanks again everyone :) And no, santonacci, you weren't what bothered me- the immature person above you just really bothered me since I didn't know people spent their free time online making fun of people obviously going through a really hard time!

I'm fighting this and I'm not going to show weakness.. at least not in front of him.

You rock Kate!  I knew your family would come through for you...your dad wants what's best for his little girl!  You are gonna pull through this a winner!

LOL - nicely done - look at the number of people you got to respond seriously to this joke

Jesus f-ing christ, go back to reading your Sarah Palin fansite.

Win.

You're doing great!  Stay strong!

Win? LOL - I think the winner is the person who doesn't say "yes" when their spouse asks to sleep with a hooker

Do you need a hug?  I'm giving them out for free today.  No fine print or nothing!

And every night I'm on my knees, to ask the Lord to help you out
Inside my mind without a doubt, I know he bout to let you out
But don't you lose faith, cause faith is important at this time
And I'm your dog to the end, no matter what I'ma be around

I wonder if I am rarity?  I actually enjoy talking to my co-workers and I actually get work done.  And *gasp* some of us even hang out on the weekends/holidays/at each others houses etc.   They give me rides to airport, help me move stuff..let me use their costco card..lol.  I am also the baby of the bunch, not married and with no kids.  And the only girl on my team.  Maybe its just me..I'd be bored out my mind if Ididn't work in a atmosphere like I am in currently.

To the OP you can always start a convo an dsee where that takes you.

Maybe you are a rarity.I used to love my co-workers.I put way too much energy into friendships then there was a lot of back stabbing.  People will always climb all over you to get to the top if you let them. I think it is sad but I have learned this lesson over and over again. I gave up.Next time I will not get involved.

I guess cause I work with a guys it makes a somewhat of a difference.

the original offensive post wasn't calling anyone "N" and it wasn't aimed at anyone. So what would that serve to prove about that post?

The first part cracked me up (joke about mr & mrs N), and while I winced at the word, I would have left it as long as it wasn't directed at anyone.

chappelle's show, anyone?

And some people like to use that word and they aren't offended. To each their own. I choose not to use it. I can't tape anyone else's mouth shut.

My responses to Ibez was based on on his syaing the Nword is just a word get over it.  Everyword is just a word...but it is the context in which it is used.  That is my issue.  I am a great fan of Chapelle show but he is not trying to tear someone down and make them feel lesser of a human being.

I used to think the word was just a word also.  Then I moved to Georgia and all that went out the window.

so Ibez must admit that a word has meaning in context? is that what you need?

I'm in georgia too. From florida. I've seen it (and other) words used in every possible way. They're just words until they're used in some context, then they have meaning. Is it always a bad meaning? NO! IT ISN"T!

I win! (see, how I found something true in what everyone had to say?)

Oh dude..you do WIN.  *hands you a trophy*

my boy kyle turned me on to trae, hes from southside houston and he raps from the heart

trae says niggaz all the time... i sing along, but when i say niggaz its not like the way its been said historically. its just a word...

i.e.

I really wish that I was, sitting on top of the world
Cause lately I've been in my own zone, stressing so much I'm about to hurl
I don't wanna lose my focus, in case you ain't noticed it's hopeless
In the ghetto, cause niggaz'll hold you down and never let go
But I maintain, ducking and dodging the rain
Wishing one day I'll get away, and be on top of my game
Cause for Trae, everyday struggling is what I get to feel
If I feel anything else, I swear to God it wasn't real
So I mash on, and get my cash on
* being broke, everyday I get my stash on
It ain't no telling, if I'ma get to see the better days
I would rather be living, so mama say I better pray
And forget what them niggaz say, I know they be hating mine
I've been stuck on bad luck, I don't think they want mine
So I remain, hoping God gon put me on top of his list
I'll probably never get to see it, so for now I sit and wish I was

sitting on top of the world

I HATE it when people tell me to smile.  Usually, someone will do it when I am simply walking around on campus and lately it has been happening at work (from the same guy who tells me I wear black a lot).  He even had to come back and try to make me smile by giving me a "happily ever after" story about me and my husband.  Just because I am not smiling doesn't mean I am not happy or content.  I am WORKING(or posting on CC) and do should not be expected to plaster a smile on my face at all times.

Makes me want to scream.

forced smiling increases your risk for cancer so watch out!

Dude!  Where hell have you been!

This would be an interesting experiment.  You should use your logic an dgo up to random black person onthe street, call them the N-word and then explain to them that..."Hey I am not wrong for calling you that."

while he may see nothing wrong with it, I am sure he realizes that others think something is wrong with it.  That "experiment" would conclude nothing.

I guess I'm reading his posts wrong because I am understand that accoring to him... there is no right or wrong.  So it is not logical for 'others' to think something is wrong.

Maybe thats just me.

Watergirl, I'm not sure about my waistline, but my jean size hit 10" dropped. I've given up on my actual waistline, either way it is waaay small for a male.

Ibez how is the world a much different place for black people now?

I am shocked that you think that everything is so A and B.  A word may be simple to you but its is the tone and the context of which it is used that is the underlying problem.

Do I really have to explain myself on that? Are you saying that black people in the 19th and 21st century experience the same lifestyle?

The problem here is that everyone treats their thoughts as right and other peoples' thoughts as wrong. Words are a projection of thought, and though you hate people who hate, they are not wrong for hating in the first place. They have different reasons, and reasons that feel very real to them, whether those reasons are irrational or senseless to you.

I can't really ever give a penetrating explanation of my views to people, because they have this undying assumption that they are participating in some sort of fundamental and objective moral code. There is no moral code, though. Hate is a biological function, love is a biological function; and neither of them are right or wrong. Even if they cause people pain, they are not right or wrong. Humans place humans at the center of everything. I see no reason to believe that is anything more than human arrogance; humans are simply feeling participants in an unfeeling universe. Life is not and never will be painless. That's just how it is, and we have to accept that; whether the source of our pain be words, actions, feelings, or hell and high water.

Ok, ok. I said I was going to try and stop discussing this. You can count this as rambling, if you want.

Yes I do want an answer to the question...thats why I asked.

And who decides that there is or isn't a moral code?

Are lions arrogant for placing another lion at the center of their world?

This would be an interesting experiment.  You should use your logic an dgo up to random black person onthe street, call them the N-word and then explain to them that..."Hey I am not wrong for calling you that."

Obviously I abhor all racial slurs.

What sets this one apart, in my mind, is that it is a word that comes to us directly out of the abomination of the slave trade. Women and men captured, against their will, and forced into filthy holds, chained together for months, living in their own excrement, urine and menstrual flow, stripped of every single outward appearance of humanity. Treated worse than cattle.

No other slur, no matter how ugly, can be said to share that distinction.

Words are just words. Yes, even that one.

Are people so unable to handle themselves that this type of thing is still offensive? The world is ugly. Move on, already.

You might not have seen the comment that was deleted, so you might have missed the point of the exchange that followed. The comment you quoted was in response to another poster who asked me a specific question.

But 'tis no matter.

You are wrong. Words do matter. Words exist as surely as weapons or love exist. Regardless of the context, regardless of the excuses people use to weild them.

No, I'm not wrong. And you aren't either. There is no right or wrong here. I think I'm simply more realistic. Words are a medium. If you remove words, there are any number of other ways to express the same feelings. And whether we like it or not, those feelings do exist and they will find their way into being expressed. We can't live in history, the world is a different place for black people now... and I don't think a simple word needs to cause so strong an emotional reaction anymore.

It seems many come on-line to hide behind their internet persona's and take out their frustrations on others. I call them "internet cowards" because most would not say the things that they say on-line to someone's face.

I don't understand your obsession with this. How are opinions any more or less valid depending on where they are spoken? You think simply because you may intimidate someone face to face that the opinion suddenly vanishes? No, simply they will just think it instead of saying it to your face.

Or maybe thats how you think opinions works? Those who can back them up physically are the "winners"?

I guess I just don't see it the same way. I don't think your ability to intimidate people makes your argument any more valid....

And here is one of the people that I was referring to. I knew you would show up Lorik...LOL I haven't seen you call names but I have seen you be condescending. You also admitted in another post that you will express certain opinions (that you know others will find offensive) while out with a group of people, loud enough for others around you to hear but you when you are by yourself, you keep your opinions to yourself.

Back to the OP. I was not talking about differing opinions. I am talking about name calling and being rude. Most of what is said in a lot of these posts would never be said to someone's face. Why? Because most people would not allow someone to talk to them in that manner. So if it's done on-line and not in person, that person is a coward.

 WIN..I LOLed literally.
