Weight Loss VENTING-feeling ashamed about myself:(((( Oct 12 2009

Hello everyone,

Thank you guys for  your quick reply, and sorry for the late response...I like CC's supportive community.

To answer your question I'm 5'4" (160 cm) tall...My actual weight is around 110 lbs, and is continously going up. BUT when it comes abut ideal/healthy weight I think the BMI tool it's not very accurate in determining it. For example I have a small frame, with tiny bones and a high body fat percentage 28%(we all know that fat cells are more lighter than muscle cells) two months ago was about 17%. So that are my stats. My weight is going up dramatically fast because of the constant cravings and binges. I just want (I'm actually struggling) to put an end to this  nightmare. I think I'll take your advice "ezzied" and I'll try gradually lower my calorie intake.

Thank you for your advice and great support!

Weight Loss My 3 biggest tips on losing weight... Jul 14 2009

I totally agree with the exercise part. I know it from first hand experience that you can lose weight without exercising. I m not saying that exercising isn t important, it is especially for your health, but it won t make a huge difference in terms of weightloss. The basic rule to lose weight is counting calories and eating less than you burn.

I think you look gorgeous!Unfortunately this doesn't mean that your body feels comfortable at this weight...if you are at a healthy BMI you could try to eat maintenance calories and see if your body can adjust to this weight.

Take care..

I totally had your problem!

It is very difficult to accept that you need to gain. Try to look at healthy weight gain as a challenge, like it was losing weight. I still feel like I was better when I had less 3 kg, but my BMI hasn't yet reached 18!... I was like 16/17!

You won't feel like you're doing the right thing at first. But think about it... Your body really needs more. Not having your period is a serious issue... and being thin is also affecting your bones and overall health.

I suggest you do a lot of research on the issue (there's plenty of information on the internet! Beware: some of it is not very accurate...!) Do more toning/resistance exercise, less cardio, keep eating healthy (but more!) and don't feel afraid. You'll probably take a while to gain weight (I've been struggling to, but I also felt better when I had less 3 kg than I have now), you'll have to work hard.

Thank you nnizz for sharing your thoughts it's really good to hear that I'm not alone with this issue. You guys are great!

The difference being that she posted those pics to a weight LOSS forum which typically means people are here to lose a LOT of weight - not 5 pounds. It angers those of us who still have a long way to go and who are getting frustrated that this site is no longer helping in that respect!

You can't go anywhere without seeing some chick's skin and bones, it's on magazines, tv and yes the internet. When I joined this website it was for inspiration - not to see more skin and bones!

The only thing which I don't understand is: prior to posting my OFFENSIVE:( pictures there were posted a lot more others in these theme and some of them are more scraggy if we are talking in terms of leanness. They were welcome...

On the other hand I understand your frustration at all. I'll delete my pictures if is dusturbing so many of you, but let me clarify one thing. My only intention with posting those pictures was getting some honest opinions from a neutral part. And to be honest if I knew that CC is designed only for overweight persons, believe me I wouldn't have posted. So I'm sorry if I've displeased some of you guys, this wasn't my aim at all.

Wow, I'm really surprised by a few of these comments (namely the last few above me!) That was a really rude thing to say. It can be very hard to be able to accuratly "assume" the meaning behind what someone says online. Why? Because you can't hear the person's tone, you have no other sources of communication on a post like this other than words (ie. no facial expression, no hand motions, nothing else.) So, I think it's all too uncalled for to simply assume that the OP was "fishing for complements." On the note, what's WRONG with that? Maybe I'm the odd ball here, but it's always ncie to hear a compliment. Considering many people here are probably self-conscious (correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like that's safe to assume on a weight-focused forum,) I think these kinds of posts should be encouraged. Maybe not on this board -- maybe we should have a whole separate board just for this kind of thing. Not only does it give feedback from other people wth similar goals to the OP, but it can aso be great motivation to others. I guess I just can't wrap my head around WHY you guys are snapping at her? And her underwear? WHO CARES?? It's not nice nor is it logical to bring a completely off-topic subject to support an argument. First you snap at the poor girl for wanting advice, and then you attack her underwear!! I personally applaud her for being brave enough to post pictures of herself like that because I know that at this point, I'm too unhappy with the way I look to do that. And when I get to my goal weight, I want people to tell me how much better i look too (or if they think I lost too much.) Nothing wrong with that.

/end hijack

To the OP: I think you look awsome and I really hope my legs look that thin whe I get to my goal weight! I agree that if you feel like youstill have somewhere to improve that you should tone up a little more. You said you feel like you're continually gaining -- now, are you really gaining (are your clothes tighter, scale shows a higher number, measurements bigger?) or is it just that you FEEL weighed down and bloated?

If you physically gained weight then maybe you need to adjust your maintainence intake (I assume you're on maintainence?) If you didn't, then give it a few more days like the other posters said; you could be retaining water (from period, sodium, other stuff) or you might have just built a new perception of yourself. I am pretty sure I read somewhere once that out of a group of people who were put on severely calorie-restricted diets, a few of them felt dissatisfied with their bodies after they were allowed to return to normal eating (and in turn some of them did not return to "normal" eating and exhibited strange eating habits/thoughts,) even though before the study they had always had a good body image. I'm not saying you have strange or abnormal eating patterns or habits, that's not something I would know and that';s not the point I'm trying to make. My point is that it's not uncommon to be unhappy with how you look, lose weight and feel great about your new body, and then become used to the new you and feel like you still don't look good enough. So, just keep tabs on it and don't go too far. Take it from a ballet dancer, you look really, really good at that weight. We can't really tell you how you'd look or feel at a lower/higher weight, but personally I don't think you shoudl lose weight. Only because you look really great now!

Maybe if you still want to lose some, lose a little bit like 2 or 3 lbs, and see how you feel. If you feel better, good. If you feellike you look too thin, just get back to your current weight. I would strongly advise not to lose more than 5 lbs, though...I know sometimes it might seem like you don't look thin enough to yourself but you are your own worst enemy. No one else looks at you and thinks you need to lose weight.

Oh, one last thing -- congrats on the weight loss!! Now get yourself a new bikini and go to the beach to show off ;)

First of all thank for your huge reply, it's always nice to hear other people's opinions:) I really needed all of the outputs even if some of them were a bit offensive...

To answer your questions pballerinaSmile: my weight always fluctuates 1-2 pounds from day to day up and down (I know maybe it's only from hormones, salt, water..)but still is frustrating me. Your idea with getting used to your new body really applies to me. I think maybe I should work a bit on my distorted body image and not on my lbs before it gets worse.

Thank you again for your time, advice and SUPPORT:)

Hi,

I really don't see what's your point guys...I just wanted some honest opinions as  mentioned in my previous post. So this probably sounds weird for you but I'm finding rather difficult determining my "my ideal"\ "optimal" weight.

Seriously I dont think you need to lose 5 lbs at all! You look great. You could even stand to gain some muscle I'd say!

What were your stats before and after if you don't mind me asking??

Very inspirational!

I started dieting in February. By the time I weighed about 123 lbs (5'4" tall, 24 y), nom I am 93-94 lbs but I'm pretty sure (someone even mentioned in this topic if I really am 93 lbs...) I look like someone who weighs min. 105 lbs. That's why I think the BMI index just doesn't work for everyone. I really appreciate calling my progress inspirational. Thank youSmile!

I've been asking almost the same some weeks earlierSmile. You can check up other people's opinions also if you want...I agree with gi-jane, if you are on a weightloss progress you should strictly focus on calories eaten vs calories burned and that applies for fruits too..unfortunately....But to answer for second question, eating lots of fruits I think isn't unhealthy especially if you eat them instead of junk food.

Thank you all for your outputs. I think I have to admit that is not healthy to eat only fruit even for 1 day...I felt bloated and hungry in the same time. Nelly 1880 to answer your question,no I'm not sedentary I'm doing pilates on a regular basis and the usual everyday activites (ex. housework) but I logged myself as sedentary because I think these don't make too much calories. I don't want to lose anymore weight, I just want to maintain my actual weight, I'm feeling really healthy and comfortable in my new shapeSmile.

I'm using Herbalife since April. Thanks to their products (especially for the Formula 1 Nutritional Shake) finally I've achieved my weightloss goal. I've lost 20 pounds during a three months period in a relatively healthy way. In my esteem their products are very healthy and it's easy to keep your diet with the shake because it's nutriotious and you won't feel hungry between meals. So just give a chance! If you will follow their recomandations you'll see RESULTS.

Weight Loss Can eating one banana everyday ruin my diet even if I stay below my calorie intake? Apr 30 2009

I don't think banana is bad...I know that it has a lot of healthy stuff in it.The reason why I've asked is because the most diet plans don't recommend (for ex. South Beach diet) eating it, and I've read a lot of articles which says if you are on a weightloss diet you should avoid banana. By the way I'm not following a particular diet, I just count calories in and calories outWink.

Just an observation...

although I'm not able to tell you what size are you wearing (I'm not familiar with UK nor AUS measurements) I would like to make a little observation, I've noticed that you're a pear shaped woman, which in my opinion is more womanish as being apple shaped as I am...SmileFurthermore from a clinical point of view researcj shows that having a pear shaped body is healthier than being apple shaped.Knowing  your body type is also important when you're planning your diet. The recommendation for pear shaped women:

  1. Eat low-fat foods. Pear-zone fat cells are FAT magnets and will continue to store fat the more you consume, making your problem areas even worse, which can lead to poor body image or even eating disorders

  2. Do resistance training. This type of exercise is great for pears to strengthen their bones

  3. Get bone density scan test, particularly as you approach menopause to know your risks for osteoporosis.
