Bah to the holiday season already! Too much terribly naughty food everywhere! Its haunting me... but oh well back to it tomorrow. Painting work areas in time for Christmas functions saw me eating take aways and chips. I will have to whip myself up a nice veggie dinner tonight and tomorrow to make up for it...

hehe.. a little while ago I had a run of towels and pillows that kept bleaching! It was very strange... though I have worked out that it was various shampoos and soaps/ face cleansers that had different chemicals in them. Particularly bad when I was lazy and laid down on my pillows with wet hair. A gradual tan lotion bleached some of my clothes too - which I find quite funny because gradual tan is all about slowly going darker not lighter!! But you never know there are all sorts of chemicals hidden away in all sorts of stuff - I guess the only people who could really work out what is in everything would be chemists! I have also heard at one point about water supplies having this effect on clothes / fabric too... strange... |

mmm re-start me as of the 2nd of December.. had a bit of a blow out at a BBQ last night (the weather is getting SOOOOOO nice and warm and sunny all the BBQ's are out)... blow out wasn't food either it was wine :( but I recieved due punishment for it today! Don't worry Jezi we are still with you! A minor communictions black out in my street knocked out my internet (we are in a new suburb and alot of new houses are popping up everywhere - some silly person dug in the wrong spot and pulled out all the important cables but it was all fixed very quickly). Salt sounds like a good challenge - I definately think that it does fit into clean eating. You're right its in everything in amounts that are waaaay to high - plus think of how much your heart will thank your effort! Sharon - 3.6 is a big target! I will be cheering for you to hit it - have you got an excersize plan or anything? I am lucky in that we don't celebrate thanksgiving - so no big temptation meals for me on that occaision. Though I must say that it sounds like a good day to celebrate!

I filled up empty 2 litre Milk bottles (or the two litre juice bottles - anything with handles built in..) with sand... they were good hand weights. A thick towel is OK to use on carpet for a yoga mat... I also used a back pack for weighted walks and popped a couple of big bags of rice in there... all the usual old stuff... |

I can't help it I tried everything but they called to me and I completely devoured the whole lot! Oops! So even after a day of bringing in my lunch to work I stuffed it all with delicious sausage rolls! Oh well - cest la vie!

Yeah same issue (14E... Aussie measurements so I think that would be a 32E?)... you're not alone and my advice is the same as gg80... I have hunted for years and finally found a good sports bra - a Berlei with convertable straps that I wear as a cross over back... then ontop of that I wear a tight crop top style bra (also a Berlei brand one that I've found is the best). I doubt anything will ever stop all the bounce but hey its better than nothing! After a while it hurts my shoulders but I have found a style with some nice think padded straps. (I cringe even when I see the smaller built girls at the gym without a decent sports bra...) I also run with my shoulders back - much more comfortable. But if running is not on the cards pop the treadmill up to a decent incline (I do 10 percent) and then walk on that at your normal pace... That definately gets the heart rate up - doing that for 10 mins I can get my heart up to 160 and at that rate I get a good puff going and a bit of sweat and it totally helps weight loss and fitness without the jiggle! Give it a go it is worth it and the trainers at the gym tell me that its good for the ol' bottom toning too! Good luck with it - don't give up though.. where there's a will there's a way! |

I am 5"2 and I feel great at 132.. I am at that now and because of my build I don't want to lose that much more. I think by those numbers its a healthy BMI... but at this size I feel it when I gain weight! I have come to this from 145 pounds but it has taken me almost a year... |

See if you can equal - or better your 48 mins maybe... dnsmills is right though, don't be dissapointed at your time whatever it is you will improve.. maybe aim for 47 mins... I ran my first 10k this year and my goal was to get it under an hour.. and I did JUST - by about 20seconds... so my goal next time is simply to be under an hour by atleast 30seconds! baby steps. |

Well... I am pretty deflated right now. My mouth is all healed and I can finally eat properly - so I held myself back from the big pig out meals and ate the clean veggies... challlenge in mind I was going the best I've ever done this week. I will admit that I have been sneaking spoonfulls of nutella to satisfy my choccy addiction. I was finally able to get back into the gym this week too and had a great game of soccer last night... and tonight I went off to netball as usual - where I have twisted my ankle. It is all puffy and impossible to walk on. :( I'm doing the 'RICE' thing at the moment but I feel like someone has popped my little baloon! The hubby is back in less than four weeks and I fear that I will have to take another week off running and my team sports, I am restricted to swimming laps at the local pool. So it is all up to my diet... my plan of looking my best has probably flown out the window. Now is the time to knuckle down! I usually sit on about 2100 cals a day (I don't log them on here I use this to check then I write them down because my internet is so slow..) and for the last week I was battling to fit 1000 with a puffy mouth and 1500 as it got better... now I will face the terrifying challenge of staying at around 1500 untill I can get back to the work outs! So I'm with you jezimom with water and veggies as big targets at the moment. I usually keep a water bottle with me everywhere and stash a spare in the cup holder in the car. Sharon - Bob's challenge sounds like a corker.. I trust you're feeling better for it. franklin - good to see you didn't vanish! Though it sounds like you are busy there... on a good note - a HUGE thanks to everyone here for a great little place to vent to controll the night time snacking. This challenge has really helped - forcing me to think for a moment before going to that vending machine. Thanks Austie for starting it up and keeping it going. Since starting this I have lost 4 kilos - for me that is a huge achievement because I now only weigh 60 kilos. I really only would like to lose three or so more.. (60 kilos = 132 pounds.. and I am 161 cm = 5'2").. now to maintain while sitting on the stupid couch for another week!!!! |

I have a Polar... F6. It was $250 but I saved up a little overtime to pay for it. F6 is pretty too so I feel good wearing it. The watch itself has a 'zone' monitor on it for 'fat burning zones' and other such things. Though I have switched them off and I ignore them. The watch is great though it tracks how much effort I have put in and stores the data. It even gives me a weekly report on how many training sessions / how long / how intense / how many calories / average and highest heart rates... its pretty cool. Every monday the weekly report appears on the watch and I check out how I went... its a great motivator! and no... 'learning to jog' is pretty right.. I had to learn from scratch... |

Well I have been doing pretty well. I'm mostly all healed but still have some bruising and stitches everywhere. Everyone warns you that having teeth out is a bit painful - but no one tells you how darn annoying it is! I am still struggling to chew properly and constantly getting bits stuck in my back teeth and cheeks! And brushing teeth has become a very deliate ritual and I keep dribbling toothpaste - I need a bib! Other than that I have gone back to the gym and definately felt the week off! But I am happy to be back I was missing it - the girls at the gym kept checking on my health and wondering when I would be back. My clean eating has been going very well - I just finished my dinner of a big variety of veggies (after weeks of not being able to buy eggplant here they are finally back) just roasted with some spices and just a little spray of oil. Unfortunately my freezer failed me over the weekend so I need to re-stock my meat supplies, though dinner was still pretty satisfying without the chicken and probably a fair bit less in calories I didn't really check. I had a good weekend with dinner with friends - normally we pig out and eat terribly - but dinner this time was great. We had a fondue - just a hot french onion broth - and lots of chopped up veggies and some prawns and cubes of salmon.... all raw and popped in the fondue they boiled up nicely and were delicious. It was a fantastic and healthy way to eat with friends and I have brought the challenge up with the girls to make our dinners together healthier from now on. So even with a social event (normally a thing that throws me right off track) I am still going! Hope everyone is going along well! |

Back on track as of today... 13th of November. I'm still very puffy in the cheeks, because as it turns out I chew on my cheeks while sleeping! I have finished the ice cream and now the naughtiest thing in the house is some custard but I think I will manage that. I am staying with the icy poles for a few more days because they are just a bit of sugar and worth it. With all good intentions my mother in law brought me around a box of choccies to make me feel better - the only thing was I couldn't eat them! So they sat on the bench until my parents came around last night and ate them all! Got to love rellies! Started this morning well with a smoothie for breakky - just strawberries and a banana whipped up with some skim milk -so I'm on track. I tried a salad yesterday but the lettuce leaves kept getting stuck in my stitches so that was tricky. But I made a very healthy shepperds pie type dish last night with low fat chicken mince and a little bit of potato. So I will be back into it from today. 4 weeks untill the hubby is back home so I will stick with very clean eating if I have any hope of clear skin and a bit of weight loss!! |

| Weight Loss | How did you do it? | Nov 11 2009 03:02 (UTC) |

I had to get something to start me off. After years of couching it I had forgotten how to work out... I also fell in love with TV and it used to annoy or upset me when I missed one of my programs! I went from doing absolutely nothing about 5 years ago.. I did a 'boot camp' style thing for a little while and I hated it. I hated noticing how slow I was and how hard everything was for me. I hated seeing how easy it was for eveyone else... I then realised how good I felt the day after... I knuckled down and just kept at it after the camp finished... variety was the key for me. It started with a jog around the block then a bit of a walk... then the jogging got longer and I learnt how to run - initally I was all hunched over and looking down - I had to learn to relax my shoulders and keep my head up! Now I really enjoy it! I entered my first 10k road race this year... now I play two games of netball and a game of soccer weekly plus do cardio and weights at the gym. I also do one 30min session of boxing at the gym a week too... I miss it when I don't do something for a few days - I still have rest days however... TV is still great and I watch alot of it but no longer worry about missing my shows - the world will keep going if I miss an episode or two.. I am sick this week and I am missing excersize - today would have been the perfect day for a hike or a run! I never measured when I started but I have lost a fair bit of weight (10 kg maybe and I'm not a big person so that's alot) gradually... that was without changing my eating habits at all! |

I'm no expert but I have been told that they are not designed to measure calories burned during the day... they are pretty much for work outs only. I could be wrong but it is what I've heard alot. Also does the monitor haave settings? Mine has male/female age/wieght settings on it and if I were to lend it to someone else with my settings on it it would be very incorrect. Is it set up for your boyfriend? I don't know if they are totally accurate I just use mine as a scource of motivation and a bit of entertainment. Mostly I tell how hard I have worked by how I feel - then it is backed up by the HRM. The motivation comes with mine having a week long recording and I just say to myself that I want to put however many hours/ work outs in each week and at the end of the week I can remember if I managed my goal without having to write it down. The machines at the gym are averages only without holding hand sensors... even then they aren't perfect. They don't take alot of things into account - like a treadmill if you are holding the bar or swinging arms etc... HRM are more accurate but probably not perfect... they are fun though! |

I did it!! I have had all four out this afternoon... Oh my god I was terrified for nothing! (so far) I was nervous the whole time leading up to it (they took my pulse and it was something similar to what I would normally have walking rather than lying on a bed)... then they wheeled me into the surgery and the last thing I remember is seeing them inject some medazolom into the drip thing and moving myself across to the bed and starting to feel almost a little tipsy... then I woke up in recovery feeling fine... they had put some tape ove my eyelids and they had sticky stuff on them so I remember waking up trying to clean that off... I felt fine after waking up I could sit up and walk about pretty much immediately. My throat was- and still is - a bit sore. Apparently the surgery took less than an hour! My face is HUGE though... my bottom lip feels ridiculous and so far I have missed a game of soccer and a work call out that people have rang for... the numbness is just starting to wear off and my face just feels like a foot that went to sleep that is waking up... so I have already taken my first panadine/codine tablets. So far not off with the fairies - I wonder how long they take to kick in I took them a half hour ago. Mostly I just feel great that I didn't wuss out and sneak away and now it is done no more jaw aches! This is the first time I have had stitches and I am trying desperately not to touch them but they are fascinating. I can move my jaw and talk - not eating much because I don't want stuff stuck in the stitches - but I am struggling to pronounce 'f' and 'p' words. Mostly I feel great that its over and that I did it!!! Thanks everyone for talking me up it was a good confidence booster! |

I will be needing a re-start in a couple of days I think... I am having four wisdom teeth out tomorrow!! I'm not afraid of spiders but having teeth out frightens me!! My freezer is stocked with icecream and icy poles.. both of which are definately off the clean eating menu! But I am giving myself a couple of days off completely and I'll get back into it after that. Fingers crossed I'll be back into it shortly - and four teeth lighter! |

Update : I made my stuffed capsicums... yummo! I added some very finely chopped mushrooms to the mix before I popped it into the capsicums.. Steamed the veggies first so they would be nice and soft. I didn't add any salt while I was cooking so I did have to add some when I was eating. I think they would taste good with some turkey or chicken mince in there too.. Now my rule tonight is no more food, no snacking. Although I am very tempted already - I'm not hungry but I know there is some nice food in that kitchen. |

Thank goodness that we don't celebrate Halloween here! I wouldn't have been able to survive with all those lollies around! Having the vending machine in at work is bad enough - I couldn't imagine having lots of little lollies in the house for the trick or treaters! I stuck with the simple lunch today of a small baked potato (done in the microwave at work ofcourse) and some baked beans on it. Not too bad it takes about 5 minutes to microwave and whack together and is pretty satisfying for lunch. Patsy - I have been searching around at some of those recepies.. I did find one that had the zucchini in place of the pasta and I might try that one next week. It is kind of fun looking aound for different recipies and giving them a go! As for tonigt I will be attempting to make some veggie stuffed capsicums. I am thinking of just pumpkin, zucchini and broccoli mixed in with a bit of cottage cheese and a few breadcrumbs and baked in the oven for a little while... fingers crossed as to how they will turn out... but they will be in keeping with my vegetarian theme and very well within my clean eating rules. Austie - how far is it for you to drive somewhere for a walk? It sounds kind of silly but I do it often just for a change of scenery or a different run/ walk track... if it makes you go out for a walk in fresh air and excersize then it might just be worth it... welcome back shrinking mel! |

I just made the yummiest 'lasagne' type lunch. I used the flat mountain bread instead of lasagne sheets, crushed tomatoes, potato and pumpkin and broccolli and sweet potato! Had some low fat cottage cheese in it and boccocini... It was so delicious I had to control myself from eating the whole dish! It was my first ttempte at vegetarian cooking for when my vegitarian relavties come to stay for a little while. Its got to be healthy. Definately counts as clean eating! sinkpea - netball... its netball its like basket ball but completely no contact/ no travelling / no bouncing the ball (dribbling I think its called)... I don't think its an Australian thing... lots of running up and down the court anyway. |

yep the Subway salads are one of my favorite quick things to grab if I forget my lunch. Re start again for me.... 28th of October. Some evil person put on snacks up at the bar after work and I fell for it... then I went and played two consecutive games of netball as the centre. So hopefull I've burned them off... games are 45 minutes and I pretty much ran all the time... Its all women playing on Wednesday nights (I normally play the mixed games on the Thursday but filled in for a couple of teams tonight..) and after the second game I stood there dripping sweat - not ladylike at all! Very embarrassed but I figure I burnt of most of the plate of spring rolls! Still too much oily gunk to count as clean eating so I will restart tomorrow. Whipping up a salad now to take to work and going to try a banana and raspberry smoothie (with skim milk) with breakky tomorrow. |

So I casually took him into a sports store where he found all these cool things he liked... and we made a deal that we could buy them all as long as he used them. And he did.. now he loves it! And it kind of sucks now- he's fitter than me! |
