Original Post by themassageguy: I think cleanses (when done properly) are a fine, but that is a temporary weight loss. Your body begins to store all that stuff up again almost immediately. It really shouldn't be compared with people on a diet to lose fat. If you're overweight, a colon cleanse isn't going to help you lose fat, its just going to rid your body of some waste in the intestines, you're still going to have the same body fat that you've always had at a lower body weight, so you're actually increasing your body fat % (ie if you're 150 lbs with 10% body fat, then you drop 20 lbs of colon waste from a cleanse, now your 130 lbs with 11.5% body fat) So if you're considering a colon cleanse, please don't think that you can eat whatever you want and still be healthy. (themassageguy, I'm positive you understand these things, but I get worried when people start seeing these "quick and easy" weight loss techniques and think that that's the cure-all). And yes, people should have two good bowel movements a day |

Original Post by carolally: Yea you can still build muscle despite calorie deficit, muscle toning is a really excellent way to burn fat (this should be paired with cardio to get the best results). You don't lose weight but you should notice your body toning up. When your muscles are being exercised and trying to build, if they can't find energy to burn from the new foods you're taking in, it'll resort to using whatever your body has stored (aka love handles, spare tire, thunder thighs, junk in the trunk, ya know) |

That is pretty extreme... 775 calories is definitely not enough for your body, you're starving. Rapid weight loss like that is also unhealthy. The more overweight you are, the more rapidly you can lose weight, but 25lbs in a week is way too much for your body to handle healthily. Generally speaking, people need 1200 calories just to survive, obviously this varies person to person but this is pretty standard for anyone, at least 1200. You realy ought to get a second opinion, or consider trying something on your own, of course this means discipline and hard work, but it'll be that much more rewarding in the end. I don't think what you're doctor has you on is healthy at all. I thought it was actually quite alarming. I'd expect a doctor, especially a heart doctor, to take a less extreme, more exercise-oriented approach. Good luck! I hope you find a diet that works for you and leaves you feeling good too :) |

You need 7000 calories to gain weight and you're 95lbs? I'm 165lbs and I run 3-4 days a week and I'll gain weight if I eat over 2500 calories. Are you perhaps working out too much? The reason I ask is that if you do work out a lot, perhaps you can cut back some on that AND your caloric intake, so that you'll still gain but not have to eat quite as much. I certainly am hesitant to say to cut back on calories, but it just doesn't seem quite right that you should need that much to gain. If you're not working out then perhaps there's something else the matter physically, like having a parasite or tapeworm, in which case you would obviously need to see a doctor. If you're not already doing so, another thought is to eat smaller meals every couple hours, rather than three larger meals a day. That way you might be able to avoid feeling very full.
Good luck! Its so good to hear you're working on recovery, best wishes to you! |
