Thanks Sharp. :)

I find that goals are great motivation. I have my long term goals, but if I focus on those alone, I get frustrated when I slip a bit. Examples of my "mini goals" - losing in 5 pound increments, run a little more minute than last time, walk up a hill faster, run up a hill, do one more pushup, etc.

It's getting hot here (it was almost 90 here in Birmingham, AL today) but I love walking and running outside. Nothing like a great sweat to make you feel like you accomplished something. I worked too late tonight to go run and I missed it terribly. :(

Congrats on the great run tonight. :)

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I've logged in. May flew by!

The scale didn't move for quite a while but I didn't allow myself to get frustrated. I just kept pushing along. I increased my water, changed up my workout routine a little bit and lo and behold, the scale moved this week. I am now in the 170s!!! Twelve pounds lost since March 15!!! Woohoo! :)

Sharp - You look great! That dress is fantastic. :)

Here's to a new week ladies!!

I've thought about biking. I have a bike in the garage that could use a little workout. Just need to air up the tires.

I've thought about getting some of that self-tanner to help decrease the white glow that's better known as my legs. LOL

Thanks for the information!

Thanks so much!! Maybe I need to back off on the daily walk/runs and perhaps do them every other day instead of every day. Perhaps alternate it with the 30 day shred program? I was aiming to do that program every day, but if it does more harm than good, perhaps I should do every other day as well.

I've been weaning myself off the lean cuisines and stuff like that since they're so full of soduim. I'm eating more fish and chicken and whole wheat items (i've cut out white bread, flour, white rice). Adding more fruits adn veggies to my diet as well.

thanks again!

As far as feeling stronger, I felt better overall. I was able to jog/run a little further. I was tired when it was done, but it was a good tired. Maybe it was a confidence thing that I could do it after facing "Shred" a few times. :)

The abs are pretty grueling. I've only done it a few days, so others who have been doing the workout longer may have a little more input on the effectiveness of the video.

As far as frequency, I read something about 5 days in a row, a day off and 5 more days in a row of level 1. Then, use the same pattern for level 2 and level 3.

Congrats on picking up that other video. I heard that one was a killer!!

Congratulations!! :)

I know what you mean about the side lunges with the arm raises. I have 4 pound weights. I have modified just a little. Instead of raising both arms together, I raise the right when I go to the right and then vice versa. I was having a hard time keeping the right form as far as sitting back and trying to lift both arms at the same time. Granted, I lose a few reps on each side, but my form is better. I don't want to hurt myself. :)

Good luck Vonda! :)

Yesterday was my third day of Shred. About 2 hours after, I went out for a walk/run. Even after just 3 days I felt stronger! It felt so great! I was able to push myself just a little more more. What a feeling!

I still can't do regular pushups, but I'm pushing through and even following Natalie's intensity level on some of the moves.

I'm pretty sore today. After the first 2 times, it was just my arms that hurt. Today, everything hurts. LOL

I try and substitute fruit when I need something sweet. But when I need a chocolate fix, I'll buy a few individual Tootsie Roll minis (about 5-10 cents each) and put them in the freezer. They get hard as rocks, so I'll grab one and suck on it like a mint. Lasts a long time. :)

Watermelon is great for a sweet tooth. I just bought some today. :)

Hi Erica,

I'm relatively new to CC and I was browsing through and saw your post. I am so sorry for your loss.

I lost my husband almost 5 years ago in a car accident (we were both in the car). I too went through all the feelings you are having. I agree with earlier posters who mentioned journaling and reading books by Alan Wolfelt. I've heard him speak and he's amazing. I also recommend a book called "Seven Choices" by Elizabeth Harper Neeld. Lots of personal stories are included in the book and you'll find yourself thinking "so I'm not the only one who feels that way".

I'm glad you were having a good day. After my husband died, I felt guilty sometimes for having fun or laughing. But then I realized it was all part of the healing process.  I thought of it as the tears come out so I can let the laughter in. It was a "cleansing" in a way. Don't feel guilty if you feel better. It's ok. :)

I still talk to my husband sometimes and tell him about my day. When odd things happen, I picture him laughing right along with me. :)

Feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat sometime. :)

Thanks for the info on how to log the activity. :)

It's quite a workout! I think I'm going to stick with level 1 until I can do a regular pushup.

I bought this tonight and within 10 minutes of walking in the door, I was working out. Wow. I was on a slightly slower pace on some of the exercises (like the lunges and arm raises) but I did level 1. I'm going to do it again tomorrow. :)

How would I classify this workout when I want to add it to my activity log?

Thanks!

During the past couple of days, I have taken about 10-12 whole natural almonds (no salt) and mixed them into the yogurt. I get the crunch and a little extra protein as well.

I like the Wal Mart reduced fat peanut butter. It's quite flavorful (and much less than the name brands!). Tonight, I had a slice of wheat toast with PB and a banana sliced up as well. Yum!!

I sometimes don't get enough protein in a day and PB is a good way for me to give my protein intake a boost. :)

I keep water close by (flavored with lemon usually). When I feel like I want to snack (especially late at night) I take a few sips. If the hunger pangs just won't go away, I'll pop a 100 calorie bag of popcorn. If I'm pretty deficient in my calories for the day, I'll sometimes get a tablespoon or peanut butter or a few natural (no salt) almonds as well.

Or get a piece of fruit like a big apple - it takes a while to eat and the crunch is quite satisfying. :)

What awesome moments everyone!!! Woohoo!!!

I guess my closest "OMG" moment came this past weekend when I looked online for a bathing suit. I ordered a "tankini" so I had to order the top and bottom separately. I took my measurements and although they weren't as small as I was hoping, I measured a 10 on the top and between a 10 and 12 on the bottom! Surprised The suit is set to arrive this week and I have 2 more weeks before heading to the beach! My goal by then is to be a solid 10 in the bottoms (I went with a 12 just in case). Wink

Count me on the list of people that want to kill their scale. Mine's been pretty consistent. But this morning!? UGH!!!! I got on and weighed my usual, got on 15 minutes later - down 4!!! got right back on to double check? back up the 4. So much for consistency!!!Yell

I see a new scale in my future!!!!

p.s. Love the "101 ways to murder a scale". ha!

Thanks for the encouraging words. :) I feel better about it this morning. I had a healthy breakfast, packed a great lunch and now I'm at my desk with my big glass of water (flavored with lemon!). It's a new day!

Laurabow-Congrats on the new low! You are definitely an inspiration! Laughing

I realized last night that I need to add a little more intensity to my workouts. The video I did last night was INTENSE. It's by Prevention magazine and the name is "Fight Cellulite Fast". Wow. I'd done the video a couple years ago and couldn't make it past level 3 (there are 6 levels of cardio). In each level, the first 2.5 minutes is low impact, and then the next 2.5 minutes is high impact (same moves - add a hop or jog) and then 40 seconds of "cardio blast". I managed to do all 6 levels last night! By the way - one of the instructors in the video demonstrates the low impact version as an option if you don't want to do the high impact moves. And the weights/toning-woohoo!

I usually plan lunches the night before since I pack them almost everyday. Breakfast is usally cereal and fruit. Dinner is more open to change.

I need a little support....I fell off the wagon a bit tonight. I went out after work and had a burger and fries. I was craving it and I caved in and went over my calories. But, although I loved it at the time, I felt guilty later and after my hour dance class, I came home and did a high impact aerobic video (and the weight/toning segment too). I was so FULL after eating that much food at once. It's going to be a loooooooooooong time before I do that again! Tell me I didn't do much damage to all my efforts? :(

I'm considering a burger and small fries tonight before I go dancing. I've been craving a burger forever. Maybe it's a sign.

I'll savor it tonight and get back on the wagon tomorrow.

I ordered a bathing suit online this morning. I finally took my measurements and when I compared them to the chart, I found out that I went down 2 sizes from last year!!! I wish I'd measured about a month ago (when I really started working out and dieting) but at least I have a reference point now! :)
