Really? Are you seven years old?

Your response demonstrates how under-acknowledged women's issues have become in our society. If someone were to have yelled a racial slur at the op, then a frivilous post like the one from "jackattack" likely wouldn't be tolerated. Like race-based prejudice, gender related prejudice should be taken seriously whenever possible. Comments like the one the op was subjected to (from the construction worker) are often reflective of the way many still think and feel about women. I don't think the comment from "jackattack" was appropriate. It probably won't be moderated, but it's disappointing to see that a young women doesn't acknowledge the obstacles women face, because it's only by being as resilient as possible that they can be overcome.

Fluffybunny: Glad you're feeling better :).

Fluffybunny: I'm Hilary88 (from the 10-20 lb support group, I just changed my name). This is not an easy thing to deal with, especially since you're just trying to do your daily activities like go to the gym. Unfortunately, pretty girls get the worst harrassment/ stares etc., but don't let it stop you from looking and feeling however you want. You have a right to be whatever you want, and go where you want. Hold your head high and ignore the creeps. If it gets any worse or happens again, don't hesitate to post again or contact the police... Strength of character matters much more than their hurtful comments ever will.

Hi everyone!

I've been doing pretty well in the last few days. I've had a consistent 500 calorie deficit, but I haven't worked out so that's too bad.

Janeba: Thanks! It's actually an undergraduate thesis, but I am still busy most of the time. I'm always on the lookout for binge triggers, because stress eating is such a problem for me :/.

Margie: Congrats on the deficit! I'm sure you're not a mess. It's difficult when you're on the go... I can't imagine having to keep up with school and run a household. You're like superwoman ;).

Emma: I think the gain is prob water. You're doing great. Are you doing a lot of weight training? There are days when I feel perfectly fine with my body too. Afterall, I'm a healthy weight and near the ideal for my height, but I'm an 8-10 now and I would really like to have a more slender, toned physique -- maybe a 4-6 (vain I know). p.s I've never had a girl scout cookie in my life! I used to sell chocolate bars as a fundraiser. No wonder I'm big :/.

I'm going to try to start getting to the gym on Monday. I'm finding it hard to sleep now that I'm not going anymore. Hope you're all doing well :).

Hi everyone!

I had about 14-1500 yesterday, so that's a bit of a deficit, even though I didn't work out.

Margie: Good job with the run! I'm too busy to log calories too. I think I'm just going to have to make myself do every night no matter what. If I do it in my head I tend to forget some things that would have occurred to me if I'd logged them. Hopefully I'll be back to the gym soon. I'm working on a thesis proposal that's due today, but after that I assume I'll have SOME time to workout.

Megs: The weight gain is weird. There's no way that's fat. Also, you may not be eating enough calories, sometimes that can make it harder to lose weight.

Janeba: That's gross about the almond milk. Chocolate is allowed for emergency palate cleansing measures...

I'll log all my calories tonight and post my plan. I'm trying to get back in the habit. Good luck everyone :).

Hi everyone!

This is a whole new group now!

This week hasn't been good for me at all! I think I've eaten maintenance or a little above everyday! Oh well, tomorrow's a new day AND the LSAT is over. I survived, but won't have a score until the 19th. I've been missing the gym too. I'll get back on track though, no worries...

Mom2: You're certainly going through a lot. I just hope you can get into some healthier eating habits. I think eating too little may cause you to overindulge, but I guess with your history of ed, you know most of the triggers. As for baking, maybe your husband can get in on the healthy living habits with you? Hope the medication helps :).

Emma: Hope your plan went accordingly. Yay for restarting. I'm with you :).

I haven't weighed in a while, but I know the jeans that were tight a few weeks ago (I was scared I wouldn't fit into them in fall), are now loose. I'm wearing them right now :).

Hi everyone!

Sweatpants: Congrats on the loss! You're doing awesome! I hope we're lsat twins too, since you lived...

Mom2: Sounds like you're having a really low calorie plan. You work out on less than 1200 calories? You must be a pretty tiny girl...

Megs: Your meal plan looks good. I'll start posting mine too, once tomorrow is over...

Cello: Welcome! I looked at your profile, it's such a great idea to reward yourself for weight loss goals. How tall are you?

Emma: Great job! Your meal plans look terrific too. You're my diet inspiration :).

I've been doing okay food-wise, but haven't worked out in the last few days. I'm trying to eat maintenance calories (1800 - 1900) until I get through the lsat. I think it's important to get as much nutrition/ sleep as possible, since that's all I can do at this point... Good luck everyone :).

Emma: Was it Halloween candy? Those should be banned... I'm sure you'll do better today though :).

Sweatpants: Hope you're doing well, school is prob stressful and things.

Margie: Congrats on the deficit! You're doing great!

Welcome Newcomers! This is a very supportive thread and you'll like it a lot :).

Megs890: You meal plans look so nice and balanced...

Janeba: I love Laughing Cow too. They're delicious :).

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a few days. It's been so crazy busy. The bad news is I haven't worked out in the last four days (it's that or sleep). The good news I've been eating between 1200 and 1400 calories a day (with the exception of yesterday). So, I've had at least a 500 calorie deficit each day. That's exciting. I'm too busy to eat, it may seem :/. I'm going to try to paste my food log again tonight or tomorrow, and keep posting regularly.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi everyone!

I'm still sick, but feeling a bit better...

Fluffybunny: Thanks! I love the gym. I do an 1-1.5 hours of cardio 5 days a week and .5 hours of weights three days a week. The elliptical is my favorite. I'd stay on that thing all day if Oprah were on, and I had nothing else to do :).

Pixipm: Good to hear the water trick is helping. You lose so much working out, it's tricky to stay hydrated. Have fun at the beach! Hopefully we'll survive swine flu. I was talking to an acquaintance yesterday who had it. Eek :/.

Sabel: Keep up the good work academically. That's rough. As for nutrition, are you taking a fiber supplement and multivitamin? That might help you out with the things you require. Canned fish is okay I guess, but can you cook your own food where you are?

Emma: Thanks, I have a long way to go in terms of balancing out my meals and not overdoing it on one type of food, or at one meal, but I'm getting there. Good luck on your workout routine. You have nothing to be ashamed about, by dear. They'll be lots of good diet time in the future, I'm sure of it :).

Ash: Come back (!?).

It's not letting me paste my meals anymore because I accidentally hit "don't alow access" on the clipboard option. Anyone know how to fix that? Anyway, the last two days were below maintenance, but the deficits are nothing to write home about. (91 + 248  + 608 = 947).

In any case, I'd just like to vent about how stressful my life is right now. I'm writing the lsat a week from today, I'm in five seminar courses this semester, and I need to write an honours thesis this year (for which the proposal is due four days after the lsat). I'll have to juggle that along with several major trips for debate this year. Nonetheless, I don't want any of this to get in the way of my weight loss or taking care of myself in general. You've all been really helpful in keeping me motivated to get to the gym and eat consistently. I really appreciate the support.

Night all :).

Hi everyone,

I'm sick (swine flu-esque symptoms - eek!) and it's that time of the month, so in that light yesterday wasn't too bad. However, I did have a surplus of about 400 cals because I didn't work out and my eating caught up with me :/.

981 - 373 = 608.

Sweatpants: I'm using the cc "sedentary rate" as my "bmr", but I know if I stayed in bed all day I'd burn closer to 1680 or something, as that is my actual bmr. However, since I'm fairly active outside of the gym, I guess the 1940 cc gives me is a good flat burn rate. Granola bars sound good! I'm not sure what I'm adding up to per se, but it's just good to keep an eye on what my deficits are by Tuesday of each week. I haven't weighed myself in two, but based on my deficits I should have lost a little over a pound, which is I can believe because my clothes fit better and I look a bit trimmer :).

Margie: You seem to be doing a lot better too! I just highlight the entire food log for the day (including the calorie total at the bottom) and copy and paste it all at once.

Emma: You're a crazy good eater. I'm jealous, but inspired too :). LOL at the fries. That's fine once in a while... UGH TTOM. It's about damage control...

Naturistdiva: What is your sedentary burn rate? Even if it's low and you eat like 250 calories less than that you should see a results in a few weeks. Logging the exercise is fairly accurate as long as your burn rate is set to sedentary. If you're eating less than you're burning, I can't imagine why you're not losing weight. How long have you been at it? Also, eating less than 1200 calories will make weight loss harder in the long run. I got to a low weight one time (139 at 5'10.5") and was eating 1200 calories a day for months just to maintain my weight. You don't want to be in "starvation mode", trust me! Maybe if you just give it some time...

Well, my calories are a little high already today, but I'm going to have a light eating day (salads, veggies etc.) for the rest of the day, and also hit the gym. Wish me luck!

Have a good one girls :).

Emma: Your name is not old sounding at all! It's fresh and classic at the same time :). Maybe try some new recipes to make sure you don't get too tired of the plan...

Pixi: That's so funny about the workout. I overdo it when I get back from the gym too. I know you're supposed to eat SOMETHING, but I usually eat a little too much at that time. Sometimes I even call it dinner, if it's like at 4:00 pm or something. The extra food could have to do with thirst too though. I find it helps if I down a few bottles of water before I have anything. That way, I'm not all dehydrated while I'm eating and letting the food make me more thirsty, so I eat more...

Jubri: Your plan sounds very low-cal. Are you working out with that too? Is Thaislim like hoodia?

Sweatpants! I think I missed your post last night, or we posted at the same time. University gyms are awkward, for sure. Mine is pretty small, so it's every student for herself. However, there are football players there at times so that's pretty sweet. It's embarrassing to struggle with ten pound weights when they're around though. I understand the restrictive thing too, it takes a lot of discipline to not restrict after overdoing it. One thing that has helped me is to consider the psychological element. If you restrict after binging you're not experiencing the consequences of having eaten more than you'd intended. When you do and then continue your diet as usual (with the minor setback) you're less likely to do it again both physically and psychologically. Have fun at the gym :).

Hi everyone!

Welcome diva! I'm not sure why you're having weight gain. Are you logging the portions correctly? Is the burn set to sedentary? Maybe it's just the activity level that needs adjusting...

Hi everyone,

Margie: I'm sure things will balance themselves out once you get into a routine. Can you delegate any of your current responsibilities? I find it hard to balance a ton of things this year too, now that I'm back in school. It helps a lot to get on a predictable and adequate sleep schedule, even when you're busy. It's hard to get to bed early when things need to be done, but you'll be more productive in the waking hours if you get enough rest. You'll also make better food choices if you're less tired.

Emma: Happy weekend to you too! lol Glad to hear you're doing well. I thought about you and the cupcakes this evening when I was putting the groceries. I think you helped me avert a total meltdown of carbohydrates. (Details on this later).

Claudb: Does the pill cause weight gain? It's my biggest fear for using it. I have enough problems with that as it is...

"The new all bran bars taste great". It's true, I ate three and a half in one sitting this evening. Isn't that awful? I was really hungry because I had an early dinner, but I think that's an unreasonable amount of food, so it's a binge. I think it could have been a lot worse though, since I had just purchased groceries and there were other tempting things in the room. I also made it to the gym for an hour of cardio so I have a decent deficit. I'm really starting to notice the difference in my body since my deficits have been getting bigger. I've had abs and some tone for a while, but they're really showing a lot more now that I'm losing the flab. It's exciting :).

Samoa: Holy willpower. Thanks for telling us the little victory too, it's those little things that can ruin your day and cumulatively, your diet. It's great inspiration to hear about your successes :).

Erika: That internet does sound like a racket... holy macarel. I think the workout clothing purchase is completely justifiable. You said in an earlier post you like working out more when you have cute workout clothes. That's the perfect incentive. I got to the gym for an hour today, which was good. However, I'm starting to rely too much on what is called a "dcb" plan (a requirement for those who live in residence). It entails a $700 food allowance (forced purchase). It can be used at the starbucks conveniently located in the main lobby of the sports center as I exit the gym (conveniently located meters from my residence). There's also a little coffee shop convenience store just across from the library. I picked up a "cinnamon crunchie" there today. After realising it was 420 calories, it became the lunch crunchie with a side of milk. Hopefully I'll avoid that place for everything but emergency beverage purchases and garden salads in the future. Yikes...

Hi everyone!

Erika: Congrats on the loss! I think I'll have to find a strapping man to help me in with my groceries. I'm on the first floor, so it's not too bad, but I have to go in one trip, so it's sketchy in terms of looking like hulk girl carrying the things in :/. The other day I did a half an hour of weights (not a big cal burner) and 40 min of cardio (20 min stepper, 20 min jog). I find running doesn't burn a ton of calories unless you're very fast or run until the sun sets, so I tend to stick to the machines that can give me maximum calorie burn for the time (elliptical, stepper, aerobics or k-box class). I mix it up with some jogging at times though. I haven't weighed in about a week. I'm afraid of the difference between my old scale and the wii fit. My last weigh-in was 164, which would make it seem like I'm huge, but I'm a size 7-10 on bottom and 6 on top.  I think the toning could have a lot to do with it, because I wear the same clothes as I did when I was 155. My sedentary burn is 1940.

ash: I'm in the same boat... my eating is okay, but my exercise has gone downhill pretty fast. There's just no time. It'll work out though. Do you cook your own meals?

p.s. I didn't really have four shots of alcohol (I'm the lightest weight ever, and wouldn't be able to type this message). I couldn't find the info for smirnoff diet coolers, of which I drank two (200 cal). Apparently, that's the caloric equivalent of four shots of rum. Close enough...

542 + 376 = 918.

Erika: I do drink a lot of milk. I think I was just raised that way. My mom gave me milk with every meal growing up. LOL, she was a health nut. I think it's good for weight loss, and I tend to think it reduces abdominal fat more quickly if you're already dieting. I drink it all the time, and my stomach has always been pretty flat. Now, for the hips...

Hi guys!

Erika: It sounds like you're doing great again. Don't beat yourself up! It may be water weight too. That can make it fluctuate a lot. I agree about the smart ones and lean cuisine dinners. They're so cheap in comparison to ingredients. Although, I'm getting into cooking some evenings as well...

Claudb: I can relate to being a frugal college student. Groceries are so expensive! I used to buy the big things of oatmeal too, but I started eating it for dinner some days, so I got rid of it. Now that I'm back in school I find it very hard to get enough calories in without breaking the bank/ running out of food. I think I'm going to go back to having some oatmeal. I also find that bags of chick peas are cheap and nutricious. However, they take hours to cook. I drink a lot of milk, and eat low cal popcorn as a snack. Some whold grain pastas are good for you. I also eat a lot of canned salmon or tuna it's great for wraps or sandwiches. On the more expensive side, I like haddock and other types of frozen fish. IMO they're worth the money, because they're filling and easy to prepare. Another thing I'm doing is trying out (fairly inexpensive) low cal recipes and putting them in tupperware in the freezer. It beats frozen entrees, and I'm learning to cook :).

Margie: Good luck on the reading! Congrats on the loss too.

Sweatpants: Awesome calories! I find the same thing happens to me. I go too long without eating because of work, and I'm also trotting around campus. So, I'm even more starving. I find the cost of groceries is irritating to me now, but also lugging all kinds of high-volume foods into the residence. It's embarrassing, because I go through so much in the way of fruits and veggies, milk/ heavy stuff in general, that I'm lugging in major loads every week. Ironically, this is making me thinner, but I still like to be dainty when taking my groceries in...

Fluffybunny: I'm sure you can stick to it. I think you'll start to see results in a few weeks if you stick to it. Just think of how good you're going to look :).

I got to the gym yesterday for like an hour and fifteen and had a 500 or so deficit, so I'm pleased with that. The gym here though, is so much warmer than the cushy Nubody's I'm used to...

I'm going out with some friends to the campus bar tonight, for wing night. No fear though, the texture of wings is gross to me. Although, I'm kind of concerned about not having time to work out; my challenge is going to be keeping to 1200 cal. Hm...

I'm a little scared to weigh in this week b/c I'm not in my apartment anymore (the scale belonged to the people I was subletting from). Now I have to weigh myself on the nintendo wii. Maybe it'll tell me I'm 180 pounds? It's kind of a stressful thought, so I'm not going to do it this morning before I go out with my friends - maybe tomorrow morning though, so I don't keep avoiding it :).

Hi all!

Welcome back Erika! Your meal plan looks great. I'm sure you'll be able to get back on the wagon. We're all here for you :). I had a visit from the family for the holiday. It was nice to see everyone! What are your plans?

Sweatpants: I find being busy does help with the deficit. I'm hoping school helps that way. It will, as long as I conquer stress eating :).

Today was no gym day #2 due to being busy/ family visit. I still have a 503 calorie deficit though :).

Ash: Congrats on the weight loss. That's amazing :). I'm scared to weigh in on Tuesday because I'll be switching scales. Eek...

Foxsinatra: Welcome! You're in the right place :).

Margie: I'm sure you'll be fine with maintaining on that. Maybe you'll even get a boost when you get back on track, since you've mixed things up a bit. I used to feel that way about working out, but once you do it consistently, it gets easier. I promise!

Samoa: You can do it! I like to eat slowly when I'm with my parents, so it's not a food pushing situation. Portion control is key, and if they offer dessert just say "that was just perfect for me". If they insist, I'm sure it won't derail your hard work. I know it sounds weird, but maybe try wearing a bathing suit under your clothes, so you'll be more body-conscious while you're there. I know I get so comfortable at my mom's place/ eating out with her, that I forget I need to count calories...

Soupcan: Hope your internet is working better soon...

Samoa: Your meal plan looks great. I wouldn't fret about the weigh-in. You're doing things right, so results need to show up sooner or later...

Soupcan: LOBSTER shaped gummies? I've never had. It sounds good though... is it a dessert?

Sweatpants: That's interesting about the calories. I was wondering about that! I find it hard to even keep it in the 1800-2000 calorie range when I'm active.

Pixi: It's a good idea to do weekly progress. I'm just the opposite, I need daily goals or else I get off track. I guess we're all different! Half marathon. I'm pumped for you :).

Hi everyone!

I'm not homeless. Safe in residence and happy as a clam. I ended up eating out today again. This time, at Boston Pizza. I stayed at about 1200 calories though, because I didn't work out. I'm so happy! Yay for the "Delicious alternatives" menu. It's a funny name though, like calorie-consciousness is an "alternative" lifestyle. lol

Mysurferrosa: Welcome! You'll like this support group. It's great to be accountable for progress. My biggest problem is portion control, so posting my meal plans helps a lot...

Soupcan: Congrats on the weight loss! What are your stats again? That weight is so low. You go girl! (Sry for the 90's flashback).

Samoa: Great job on the pound. Your meal plan looks great. We all have chocolate bar moments. Keep up the good work :).

Sweatpants: I think it does get better. I think if you're at a goal weight and in the habit of working out, it'll be much easier to stay where you want. I hope so anyway! Sounds like you're doing great. How do you keep your calories low on days you work out? I find I get so hungry. I know it would be easier if I didn't work out at all, but I love it too much to stop...

Margie: I don't think it will be as hard to maintain. Hopefully not anyway. Maybe you just get used to less calories? It does take about six weeks to get used to any new habit...

Hope you're all doing well :).

Hi people!

I'm not out in the cold apartment wise, but I'm moving into residence over the next few days, so stress is high! Today was an off day from the gym. I tried to keep it to 1200 calories, but it didn't happen. I had my intake by the evening. Then, after an evening of unpacking, my mother forced me to eat a thai chicken salad. Well, not specifically that, she needed to be sure I was going to eat something for dinner. Ugh... it's hard when that happens. I had just eaten around three! To boot, I accidentally bought a two litre container of non-diet root beer and drank two glasses before realizing my mistake. So, I'm not taking responsibility for this one folks. Honest mistake...

Soupcan: Good job avoiding binges, that's an issue for me too.

Sweatpants: Thanks! I can relate to "summer binge weight". I tried to lose weight this summer. I didn't take it very seriously granted, but I'm now a pound or more heavier. I hate it. I know if we keep being consistent with our deficits it has to work out though :).

Anitajd: Maybe save more of your calories for a substantial evening snack.

Samoa: It is frustrating, eh? There's no one to blame here though. These things happen...Good advice with the rolaids. Maybe that could work for me too. It does seem like acid reflux when that happens at night...

pixipm: Welcome!

Hi everyone,

This is a short post because I'm having some drama moving out out of my apartment. I may have to have my things out by 12:00 tomorrow night and I can't move back into residence until the fourth. The people I`m subletting from may not renew their lease, so all is up in the air all of a sudden...

Good news: I`m down to 164 as of this morning. (That`s one pound less than my starting weight :).

Bad news: Today wasn`t the most on-track day ever:

Sun, Aug 30 2009 Grade Grams Cals   Breakfast Milk, Nonfat, Fluid - Without Added Vitamin A (Fat Free Or Skim) A 368 129   Lunch Rice, Brown, Medium-grain, Cooked A 439 492   Dinner Frozen 4-Way Mixed Vegetables A 255 150 Milk, Nonfat, Fluid - Without Added Vitamin A (Fat Free Or Skim) A 490 172 Chunk Light Tuna in Spring Water (cups) - Light Tuna C+ 144 154   Snacks Milk, Nonfat, Fluid - Without Added Vitamin A (Fat Free Or Skim) A 490 172 Pop Secret 94% Fat Free Butter B+ 157 496 Milk, Nonfat, Fluid - Without Added Vitamin A (Fat Free Or Skim) A 490 172 Frozen 4-Way Mixed Vegetables A 255 150 Ranch Dressing B 75 192 Total Calories Consumed 2,277

I still have a little deficit, so that`s fine...

223 + 2113 = 2336

Ash: I put on eleven pounds (148-159ish) trying to be a vegan. The worst part was I didn`t notice because I wasn`t weighing or counting. LOL, in my mind, vegan equalled thin somehow. The plant estrogens in the soy made me gain in my midsection too. I`d never had weight there before. I find a lot of skim milk can wonders for weight loss, and eggs and protein powder are great for reparing muscle fibers.

Samoa: Complacency is a hard one to beat. I think that way too sometimes, when I get so far I think `looking good`, then go slack off. I think we can be the best we can be and still slip up and keep working for it. Your meal plan looks great :).

Margie: Holy self preservation with that fast food. You did awesome! I like your idea of taking it meal by meal. I`m such a heavy eater, I need to think of it that way, and focus on portion control...

Hopefully I won`t be homeless tomorrow. I hope you`re all doing well on your diets.

:) H.
