Young Calorie Counters What does a number mean? People obsessed with the scale? Nov 23 2009
21:33 (UTC)

The number is a means of quantification.  That is all.

Having a large number as your weight does not make you the subjective labels of "fat", "ugly", "unfit" or "unhealthy" unless you let it.

The number is an objective means to analyze other entities.  Sometimes humans over think stuff.

As long as you feel good about yourself and are healthy, don't worry about the number on the scale.

I recently discovered a trick.. you can "tag" items when you get to the add to food log page, and then head to your "tagged items" list and group them so you can add the bundle with one click. For your coffee this might still be a little tedious, except you can put all your extras such as cream in the tags and just add it together. If there are any meals you eat regularly it's a life saver. For example, I usually have the exact same salad for lunch a couple times a week, so I have all the ingredients tagged as "salad1" and you can just go to tagged items and add the whole bundle. If you need to adjust individual ingredients you can easily go back in and delete stuff too once it's added.

Yes, I do that, too.  However, it would make it even quicker if I could add that "salad1" to a whole series of dates all at once instead of having to go back to the tagged items menu over and over..or clicking the plus sign over and over.

Congratulations!

You have found your happy place and the means to stay there.  Hooray for you!

I still weigh myself weekly out of habit, but I've been maintaining for the past three months.  My happy place is eating what I want (which is usually very healthy and balanced) and keeping an active lifestyle.  I too have a little black dress, but mine is more businessy than skanky. :P

Glad you enjoyed your sexy night out! :)

I wouldn't cut the potato because you want to limit your carbs.  If it truly "feels heavy" to your stomach you can have half of a baked potato.  I advise eating the skin too, if you don't already...extra fiber :) .

You should have your usual traditional fare in smaller portions, like you said.  Also make sure you get plenty of veggies.

p.s. What is zucchini pie?  sounds tasty

Original Post by bigd147:

The best thing about egg whites from the carton is the convenience.  Yeah, the yoke is the best part, but it is also where all the "bad stuff" is . . . that's why I am eating whites . . . I use the carton whites and like them (probably have gotten used to them), but if they bother you use real eggs and separate the white from the yoke . . . I don’t think you will see that much different through . . . I think is a major pain in the butt to separate eggs, plus I have a hard time wasting anything, so it is tough on me to throw the yokes in the trash . . . you can always do the half and half mix Feljones suggested . . . I do that sometimes . . . NAD

What "bad stuff" is in the yolks?  All the vitamin A, D and E is in the yolk.  So is all the choline (nutrient for brain development).  Yeah there's fat and cholesterol in the yolk, but so what?  Studies are showing that egg cholesterol does not raise LDL levels and that humans don't absorb most of the cholesterol from eggs.  And the fat will not kill you if it's part of a balanced diet.  It is so worth it to have the whole egg.

Yolks get such a bad rap.  Stupid media making people paranoid. *shakes head*

Weight Loss Holiday Eating Article Nov 19 2009
19:36 (UTC)

I think I will do a little of both indulging and counting this holiday season.  I plan on enjoying the traditional dishes that only come out this time of year.  This year my family is joining another in Thanksgiving dinner.  I plan on going in, surveying the table and taking a little of everything I want to eat.  I will eat all of that and then decide if I want seconds on anything.  If I do, I will get them.  I'll probably keep a vague running tally of calories in my head, but I won't care about the grand total.  I'll use it to keep perspective.  I may or may not eat to the point of feeling like my stomach wants to burst.  It doesn't hurt or make me sick when I get that feeling, so if I do eat that much it's no biggie.

I am luckier than the woman who wrote the article.  My family never made(makes) me feel guilty for eating.  I was overweight and they never did.  I lost weight over the summer and am much more slim, but they still don't.  There aren't any cracks about how I'll put it all back on if I eat so much.

Foods Does anyone here avoid food with "natural flavoring" as an ingredient? Nov 19 2009

I eat mostly natural foods.  The only thing i eat regularly that is processed is Dannon Lite&Fit flavored yogurt.  I can't do regular yogurt + fruit.  Tried it...didn't like it.  Since starting on CC I am more conscious about ingredient lists, but if I really want a processed something, I will get it.  I'm not making a complete life change over to clean eating.

We all have to die of something and it's probably not what you would expect.

Oh and there is a check box that says "always ask this"....uncheck that and you won't have to deal with the FB option again.

I would just like to say though that you look nice in both pics.  However in your after pic you look healthier, fitter and happier.

Stay happy, my friend.

The Lounge What do you think about yourself? Nov 19 2009

I love myself...very very much.  I have a very healthy ego.  I woke up one day in 7th grade (a particularly rumor milly year of my childhood) and had an epiphany: "who cares what people think of me? i like me and mine is the only opinion that should matter."

I think I am a good person.  I help people out when I can and I try to anticipate their needs.  I am equally good as a leader and as an underling.  I love to make people laugh and I'm pretty good at making people smile.  I think I have a good, albeit sometimes inappropriate, sense of humor.

My personal attitude about myself is my bad part.  When you are confident in yourself as much as I am, you tend to come off as a royal biznitch.  I really don't mean to.

I'd make skirt steaks that have been marinated in italian dressing.  Or at least spiced in an italian style (garlic, basil, etc).

I have co-workers who told me some of those things. The reason they said them was because they got used to the way I looked before.  I was slightly overweight before.   I did not look fat (didn't feel fat either), but I had more fat.  I had "cherub cheeks" and less visible muscle definition, etc.

The way I look now is different from that and it didn't feel "normal" to them.  They expressed their concern for me because for them I had gone from normal to not normal.

Don't worry about it.  Most likely they want you to be happy and are just concerned for your welfare. :)
