| LOL...These are hilarious. My little guy actually played a trick on my 2 months ago that had me crying my eyes out. I woke up & went to the kitchen...where he always follows me, except he was no where to be found. I found him laying on a pile of clothes & picked him up, kissed him & put him on the bed with me. He wouldn't open his eyes the entire time...I got his favorite toy & squeaked it & he did nothing. By this point I am freaking out because he has never not responded to his toy. I got his favorite treats out...still nothing. He wouldn't even open his eyes. He was breathing but by this time I am crying & freaking out because he never acts this way. I called my boyfriend in tears & let him know to meet me at the animal emergency clinic. As I am crying histerically & getting his leash ready just in case...the little brat jumps right up & starts begging to go on a walk. I still don't know if he was just really tired that morning or what...but his little act left me with puffy eyes for the entire day. |

| Weight Loss | micheal Thurman 6week body makeover | Sep 06 2008 15:31 (UTC) |

| I have tried the 6 week body makeover & I don't mean to be discouraging but I absolutely hated it. It was so restrictive & by the 3rd week of having no salt or taste to any of my foods I decided that being miserable was not worth losing weight. If you can handle very restrictive food options than this might work for you. For me it was a matter of, "Can I live this way for the rest of my life?"....the anwer was simply no, so I stopped dong it & found a program called Body For Life, that made so much more sense to me. |

| Thanks for all the replies...I think everyone is right & he is just being supportive. To be honest when he first told me about hiding the food, I was really hurt because I initially took it to mean that he wants me to restrict my calories even more....but now that I think about it, he only hid the really bad stuff like powdered sugar donuts & candy. I just talked to him & he said he was just trying to help & he wasn't trying to hurt my feelings (& also admitted that the thought crossed his mind that there would be more junk food for him...lol, go figure) |

| My boyfriend is the exact same way...we can't even go out to a club or bar because he starts getting really angry about people drinking. I've asked him several times, why he takes other peoples drinking so personal & he just always says, "I hate that drinking automatically gives people an excuse to act stupid." In a sense I have come to understand his view point but have also helped him to realize that when we are out, it is our time out together...not intended for judging what everyone else is doing. |

| Thanks so much, you all have such wonderful advice. kathygator & bettypage- You both are right, I know ultimately I am going to have to rise above & set my emotions aside. I have seen this Doctor publically humiliate other Nurses, Doctors & respiratory therapists so I know I am going to have to get a thick skin if I want to keep doing this job. I know it is going to be hard, but I can keep focused on my job if I learn to depersonalize her remarks. Also if things get really bad, I have my full-time job which I love. I have no problems taking myself out of this position. Afterall, they came & offered me the job - it is not like I was banging down anyones door to get it. oit &morrighu-You both must have been reading my mind because I have been thinking of different things we might have in common. I would love to just be myself around her. Perhaps letting her see that I am not a threat & actually very friendly is the best way to go. ladykelien - As mentioned above, I have seen this Doctor humilate other staff members more times than I can count. I am being so careful about everything I say & am not talking bad about anyone. It certainly makes me ponder why there is so much drama involved with these Doctors. Perphaps it has always been there, I am only now seeing it since I am working so close with them. |

Thanks so much for the suggestions. They are all really
helpful. I will most definitely keep a
journal of every rude encounter with her. I hate to even think of a lawsuit,
but I know it is a very realistic option if things got really bad & like
loriklorik mentioned, I would hate to be in a situation where it was too late
to think of what I should have done.
Wendyb- Thanks for the compliment & advice. I think the other Doctor is truly trying to warn me. I should have mentioned that his warning was not the first. The first came from the Nurse who is training me. She looked at me, out of the blue & said, “I just want to warn you to watch out for Dr. A, we all like you & wanted to put you on the schedule more, but when she found out about it, she was very resistant.” I could tell this Nurse didn’t want to stir up trouble, so she kept things really short & just told me to “watch out” for this doctor. Coppertop - I have to say that things are already a bit uneasy between us, but then again, she is like that with all the Nurses. Before any of this happened, I had a chance to talk with her directly. Since she has a reputation of being a bit too aggressive, I wanted to clear the air right off the bat. I told her that I was excited to be working so close with her & that I was going to do my best to make sure I did a great job & that I would appreciate any advice or constructive criticism she could offer me. She just looked at me & said, “nice.” Honestly, I would love to tell her how much I respect her & how great I think it is that she is such a good Doctor. As mentioned before, she already treats a lot of staff members really bad & I am afraid if I do this, she will know that she can walk all over me. I don’t want to give her subtle permission to do so. I am most definitely going to try to befriend her but I have gone to lunch with her before (in a group), she hardly looks at me at all & I feel like a nobody around her. In the clinical setting, conversations often go like this, “Dr. A, the patient is breathing really fast & is complaining of pain. I think…” –she cuts me off- “ok, put the patient back on the breathing machine.” (me)”ok but…” –cut off again- “put the patient back on the machine & let respiratory therapy know.” Then she walks away. I hate to think that she is acting this way just because she is in a position of power, but this is exactly how she acts with every encounter. I am trying to mind my own business & stay 100% focused on doing my job correctly, but I have to admit it is so hard to feel excited to work with her. I just want to do my job to the best of my ability & stay away from the silly drama. |

| I highly recommend Body For Life. It literally changed my body & probably is the number one factor (besides calorie count of course) to my weight loss success. (Before & after pics in my profile) It really helped me get over my fear of using weights & it helped me build endurance for running. Since getting in shape I have modified the program to suit my needs & it has worked out awesome. I love it & think you will find great success with it! :) |

| OMG....shara1733, The same exact thing always happens to me, I guess I look like someone everyone knows. It has gotten to the point where people will stare at me (which always makes me super uncomfortable) until I ask them, "do I know you?" Then they go on & on about how they think we went to school together, or that I go to their church, or that they think we've met somewhere. It is really bad sometimes. As far as celebrities go, I don't think I really look like anyone. Just a familiar face I guess. |

| Another thing he had done that I absolutely loved, is he set up a scavenger hunt of surprises for me. It started off with Go to your favorite room in the house then I would find a small surprise, like chocolate, there would be another note saying go to the drawer you find your makeup in & I would find a new lipgloss, it would go on & on, until I had 8 small surprises & at the end was a new purse that he had heard me mention I liked while walking through the mall. I had so much fun doing the little scavenger hunt! :) |

| The best inexpensive Valentines gift I ever received from my boyfriend was when he didn't have a job & couldn't afford to buy me anything. I got home - he had a candlelight dinner set up for me & takeout from our favorite restaurant, he presented me with a card that he had made himself & after dinner he gave me a small box of chocolate covered strawberries. He then led me to the bathroom, where a bubble bath was waiting & he told me to relax & take as long as I needed. After the bubble bath he led me to our room which was filled with candles & he gave me an amazing massage. I swear, every Valentines he spends lots of money, but nothing even comes close to the year when he had no money at all - it meant so much because it came straight from his heart. :) |

| I have it & I LOVE IT! I thought it would be difficult to work out with but it is great. I bought a soft case for it, so I just clip it on & it is fine. If I am running really fast though, I put it on the little treadmill cubby because I would be devastated if I dropped it. I also love it because on "down days" at the gym I could watch movies or whatever program I want while fast walking or on the bike. Highly recommend it....its my favorite toy! :) |

I feel your pain. As I went through the exact situation years ago. It was time for me to move out of my house & get a place of my own, my b/f however had the idea that we would just live at his parents house until we could afford to live on our own. He is the exact way your b/f is. Every penny he ever owned went into cars. (It still would if he could afford it) As much as it bothered him I told him that living with his parents was an absolute deal breaker. He comes from the same type of family. His parents would not charge rent, he didn't have to buy groceries, & at 25 his parents would gas up his cars & even give him money to take me out! Unbelievable! As nice as it sounded to be rent free, I let him know in advance that I was moving into an apartment with or without him. He didn't believe me until (while in College) I started looking into apartments & I also started looking for a second job. It came down to him deciding between his cush life with 3 cars or to start a life with me. In the end, thankfully, he chose me. :) Hindesight, I am so glad that I didn't move into his parents house. It was truly hard at first, but if you want it bad enough you will make things work. More importantly you both will learn about responsibility. Don't get me wrong, to this day my boyfriend still gets this heartbroken look on his face when he sees cars he used to own but I think he knows that he made the right decision. I hope everything works out. Just keep in mind that the easy way is not necessarily the right way. |

| Fitness | After I work out... I always pig out | Jan 23 2008 02:50 (UTC) |

| Hang in there, when I first started my weightloss journey, I remember going to the gym & literally heading straight to McDonalds afterwards. I remember telling myself 'I deserve it, I worked so hard'. Overtime I started realizing how much work it was to burn off a stupid small carton of fries. It always puts things in perspective for me if I look up calories before I eat something that seems questionable. I found that my weightloss journey had to be taken in small steps - first, I had to start exercising, then I started learning to cut the junk food out. If you have to have a junk food meal, try allowing yourself to have only half the portion until you can cut the stuff out completely. |

Just an FYI, if you are going by pounds on the scale, you will likely see an increase after weight training. I know that happened to me. I got down to 119 & now that I am weight training I am about 122. |

| Weight Loss | Six Week Body Makeover. Anyone tried it? | Jan 13 2008 22:31 (UTC) |
5 |
| I tried this diet a few years ago & was completely miserable! Of course you will lose weight - but the majority will be water weight if you are completely cutting out sodium. Out of all the diets I have ever tried, I was the most unhappy with this one. It completely took the joy out of eating a meal, when I knew it was just going to taste like card board. I was pretty strict about following the diet, lost some weight & gained it back. The bottom line is I felt deprived on this diet & following it for the rest of my life was not an option. I would never recommend it to anyone unless they think they can follow extremely strict eating habits forever...I mean c'mon, no condiments, brown rice, & plain chicken all the time. Losing weight shouldn't be 100% miserable. |

| The Lounge | If your weight did not determine how attractive or unattractive others found you would you still be trying to lose weight? | Jan 13 2008 16:47 (UTC) |

| Its about both things for me, but as I am getting older, I have to say the health benefits now outweigh the need to look good. I never noticed what an impact weight can have on a person, until I became a Nurse. Sometimes we get patients who are over 500 pds & sadly they cant do anything for themselves. Everything is done in bed including: eating, excercising & even going to the bathroom. I always feel so bad for them when we have to call 5 hospital security guards just to help turn them in bed. Talking with most people in this situation - they never imagined they would become so big. Some had unresolved depression issues, some had injuries that caused them to become sedentary, & others just loved to eat. Some patients I talk to, tell me that they never imagined that eating food would cause the to lose everything they truly loved. Most tell me they don't even feel human anymore. It is so sad. (skip this part if you get grossed out easily) An eye opening moment, was when we had a patient come in, weighing 600 pds. After a few days of being on life support in the ICU we were helping her with a bath. Another nurse was trying to clean in between her skin folds & found green fuzzy mold growing there. We had to call the wound care team & they had to debride her body of about 9 inches of mold in between her skin flaps. Apparently the patient would shower & couldn't dry off in between her skin folds. The moisture along with bacteria caused her skin to break down & allowed mold to start growing. Unfortunately this individual passed on because the infections took over her body. :( I know these are severe cases I am talking about, but honestly they are enough to make me realize how big of an impact weight can have on health. |

| Thank you so much for your replies, I really appreciate it! Like I said, this is our first go around with having renters & we are learning a lot of things, unfortunately by trial & error. I am so thankful for the replies & am glad I posted here, because there are some things I never even considered. laurieellen - I agree, the lease sates we pay for heat & I really don't want to break it. Our renters are pretty good about paying on time & following the rules & I would like to keep up our reputation for being good landlords. proud_mom_of_2 - Wow, so impressive how much you know! :) You gave me a ton of helpful suggestions - thanks so much for that! I am going to look into getting the furnace cleaned this week & have a long talk with my b/f on why he didn't know or didn't mention to do some of these things (& politely mention that all these suggestions were offered by a very knowledgable female) ;) Chop-chop - such a good idea to put in a clause about excessive usage & I never considered someone could be stealing the propane - definitely something we need to look into. |

| Weight Loss | Red Bull-----10 calories :) | Nov 16 2007 22:05 (UTC) |

| Aww...that experiment made me so sad, as I am a big time animal lover. :( I must say that for a whole 2 months straight I would drink a sugar free red bull before my workouts. At first everything was great, I would feel energized & felt like it was really helping my workouts. I would say after a month, I gained a tolerance to the caffeine & needed 2 to help me through my workouts. After 2 months of drinking sugar free red bulls I developed migraines, something I have never had in my life. I woke up one night feeling like someone had stabbed me in the head with an ice pick. After that I had to get off of them. I had to wean myself off of them because I truly felt addicted to them. I went through headaches & the whole bit. I cannot believe I put my body through that, all in the name of a little more energy. Everyone is right, your best bet is to have a cup of coffee or green tea. :) |

| Weight Loss | The Horror of Finding a Dress | Oct 31 2007 17:57 (UTC) |

| Wow, that is terrible. I have to tell you that I often shop at Bebe & the gals there are always so rude. The last time I was there, there were about 3 of them standing around talking about each others outfits, I needed help & no one even asked if they could help me find something. I finally walked up to one of them & told her I needed help. She had major attitude, so when I was in the dressing room I kept asking for various sizes & colors. I did it on purpose, to teach her that she was nothing special, just a salesperson who should be worried about customer service. Its quite sad, but I always have to walk in that store with a bit of attitude. It is the only way to get service there sometimes. I am so sorry that happened to you. :( |
