Woah I really did not expect so many replies! Thank you all!

One thing I guess I should have said is that I'm already doing Jillian Micheals 30 Day Shred Level 1 workout and occasionally the longer "Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism" Workout at home. I'm not a member of the Gym at the moment, but will join one when I hit University, as it's only £70 for the whole year then.

Littlesimongeorge:

My Nutrition is slowly becoming better. I'm working out the foods I don't need and adding healthier ones. I'm counting calories on everything and trying to plan what to eat so that I dont eat more than 2000 a day. As for Weights, I have some 5kg weights, and they are a bit light tbh. But I don't have the money to buy heavier ones. They are quite expensive, but I might go and have a look in the local charity shop to see if any heavier ones are lying about. I think the 30 Day shred counts as Interval Training. However, I'm doing it over 60 and increasing the time I do each workout from 10 days to 20.

Skylar:

I don't think running is that good. I have an injury in my calf from where I was hit by a car a year ago, any more than 10 minutes running/jogging/jump roping or jumping jacking causes it to ache severely.

floggingsully:

I will read your article now and post again with what I think, the support here for it seems to be pretty good.

Elmslady:

I dont have a gym membership yet.

Susiecue:

I love swimming, but I'm so self concsious I wanna lose weight before I go to the pool. So this is what this is for. However, I do love my workouts still. So In the real world I would do it. Also, I should point out I'm on summer hols. I have at least 3 hours free a day to myself where I can workout.

ds1973:

Yeah, I have been doing lifting and I **** love it. I can feel my muscles grow stronger and I wanna do so much more. I need to know more exercises than bicep curls though. Any ideas? Has to be dumbell training though. I have no barbells. I did read some of "Starting Strength" but as I have no barbells... not much point.

vyperman:

Sounds like a good idea. I think I need to work out some sort of dietplan. Any idea where I can do this?

My biggest weakness: Diet Coke. I know it's crap for you, but I'm having real trouble getting rid of it. I guess cause it means I can have something sweet without it  being more than 1 cal a can. I'm having 1 can a day sometimes. So I really need to get rid of it.

Yeah, I liked the 30 Day Shred so much that I got 3 others.

That means I can mix it up every day. Also each one is of varying length... So yesterday my workout was 30 minutes but highly vigourous, but today it was 1 hour and not as vigourous. Which I think should help with mixing things up and getting the best out of my workout.

Yeah I like Hiking. I really wanna get some dumbells and start working on my arms and also on my legs so I can do more of the intensive moves.

After my workouts I felt awesome.. all my endorphins had kicked in and it was kick ass. As Jillian said "You kicked butt" Cool

Only thing is, none of my clothes are suitable for work outs, so I need to add to my wardrobe, or do it in my bath robe, such is the beauty of home workout videos. Also, I don't have to travel, and I can fit it in around my timetable and I only paid for it once, not monthly. This is the way to go I think. It's like having my own personal trainer.

In the summer I'd really like to take a dancing class maybe. It would be loads of fun and a good way to exercise and learn something new.

I feel totally different from how I did last week, and I've already lost 2 lbs. Pretty good going in my eyes. I just need to keep at it and keep the weight off.

:D

Really excited.

Just downloaded the 30 day shred.
Do you guys find that it's best to watch a vid through before doing it?

I've never tried this before.

edit:

WELLLL just done my first ever 30 minute work out with julianne micheals or whatever. man it was fun... as the exercise went on i could really feel my endurance going up and i was able to get through the exercises much quicker.

was a lot of good fun.

I'm a dude btw, so books for women would be no good.

Why not? You have the same muscles as women do, and the funciton the same way.

If that's true, then why is it important to put whether you're male or female on these sites when finding out your quota for calories. And on food labels they always say 2000 for women, and 2500 for men?

Sorry I didn't mean to sound sexist if that's how it came across.. I just thought that men and women functioned different in terms of calorie burning and muscle building because our government here makes a massive deal about it.

Guess not.

I'm actually looking to join a gym with my sister, and then when I go to uni in September, they'll have one on campus.

I'm going to love it, I know.

:)

But yeah, I really wanna whack this fat. And I hope that by friday (my weighing day) I'll see some serious reduction :)

I'll keep you updated with progress.

Also, do sit ups help? I read somewhere they are not very good, and that walking is best.

And yeah I guess weightlifting would be best. What would be an ideal weight to start out on?

Wow, I really did not expect this many replies.

So what im seeing here, is variation basically, but keep it fun. Which is great news cause I dont want to have to do gruelling exercises.

You've all come up with some great suggestions, but what I'm really looking to do is build muscle.

Any good tips on that, I know I have to up my protein intake, but I dunno where to start on that, and also on starting to build muscle, because I like the fact it uses calories even when resting.

I will keep up with my walking until I start to see effects wearing off and then I'll mix it up.

And as for exercising at home. I tend to just put on my Mp3 and just move about, do a little dancing. Geeky and uncool, but it gets me moving.

I think they may be talking about the mass of fat vs that of muscle.
