6 by Halloween sounds GREAT! Count me in. I really need some extra motivation to get me going again, I've hit a flat line lately. Friday, Oct 9 - 168 Friday, Oct 16 - 166 - Finally, a decent week! Thanks for the extra motivation! Friday, Oct 23 - 165.5 Friday, Oct 30 - 163.5 Five isn't six, but I'll take it! I don't have much advice to give but what I have seen results with, and I don't do much cardio, though I think I need to move in that direction for health's sake. I walk about 3 miles/day with lots of hills, and the added weight of a toddler in a stroller. The other three things that have been key for me are 1- drink enough water, 2- eat enough, never below 1200 and closer to 14-1500, get enought sleep, atleast 7 hours per night. I've dropped over 30 since April, but like I said, I need a jump-start, I've been kind of slacking lately, especially on food choices, way to many carbs for me. See you on Friday!!!

Here's my two cents worth. First, it sounds to me like you already know what you need to do, and how your own mind is skewing things - That is good. Focus on that. Healthy does NOT mean fat, overexercise can be bad, so can eating a ton of junk. If you are eating that many calories I would bet you are not getting it in food that is good for you, loaded with the nutrients your body needs to be healthy. Focus on finding out what your right weight should be and staying in a decent range, + or - 10 pounds, of that. If you are worried about gaining too much then use the scale, but, like it has been said, get rid of the clothes that shouldn't fit you. Then, fill your house with good for you food, and when you are hungry, EAT, but start with the stuff that is good for you. When you fill up on that you will be less likely to crave the other stuff. And, maybe finding some other hobby that feeds your soul would be a good thing instead of spending half your day on the bike. Think balance! I know, easier said than done, but it really is the key to success, especially in this endevour, no matter what end you are coming from. Good Luck! |

This popped up on the CC e.mail the other day:http://exercise.about.com/cs/weightloss/a/wei ghtplateaus_2.htm It is an article with lots of helpful info. about plateaus and what to do to overcome them. I haven't experienced it yet, only been doing this for under two months, but having success, so sure they are coming. I hope I can apply the info and be able to beat them on the front end, by avoiding them all together. Good Luck and I hope it helps. BTW, I have noticed I started loosing more when I ramped up my cals so my deficit is not more than 500 cals., so I think the other posters who said up your cals for your activity level are right.

Hi Jessica, I'm Darla. I'm 39. I have been gluten-free for about 4 years and learned some lessons. Be glad to share ideas and learn from your experience too. I just started CC last week and have got about 55 lbs to go. Have you ever found yourself eating GF stuff, even if it's junk, just because it says GF on the package? I just found another gal who has posted who was just diagnosed. Maybe we should start our own group. What do you think? I am sure there are more of us out there! Darla |

Hi! I have never been officially diagnosed, but I have a niece who has (and it is a genetic thing). I have been GF for about 4 years now, and have to stay that way. I can tell pretty quickly if I have eaten something that had gluten in it - as you said, that internally sick stuff. I have learned a lot over the years, but here are a few of the most valuable: The biggest one is that when it comes to counting calories to lose weight it is kind of a cinch because EVERYTHING in the produce section of the store, and frozen veggies too, as long as they are without sauces, are both low in calories, high in nutrients, and 100% GF. And if you are eating lots of veggies you shouldn't have to worry about trying to supplement your fiber. Corn and Rice are both safe. You can buy GF oats in most health food stores, but they have to be marked GF. This is because in most of the US oats and wheat are rotated in the same fields, so most oats are tainted, even organic ones. And they are also processed on the same machinery as a lot of other grain products. GF oats are grown in dedicated fields and processed Completely on dedicated equipment. Once you get used to it, it is really not as hard and as limiting as it may seem at first. Just focus on all you CAN have : all veggies, fruit, meat, dairy, seeds, nuts - that's a lot of food! If you just have to have a pizza, or brownie, or pancakes, Bob's Red Mill makes excellent GF mixes, and they are available in a lot of grocery stores as well as health food stores. Rice Chex is safe (store brands aren't). One of my new favorites for a quick b-fast. But almost no fiber, so be careful there. There are a ton of GF products out there, but most that are specified GF are made with corn or rice or both, so you get little fiber and lots of sugar. So, especially if you are concerned about shedding some pounds, be careful! Just because it says GF doesn't mean it is healthy. That is a mind set I fell into for a while, and am now trying to undo. I hope this info is helpful, and would be glad to answer any questions I can, and be a friend on this journey to better health. I've got about 55 pounds to go, but have lost about 6 in the last week, so this calorie counting really does work! Good Luck! Darla |

| Health & Support | problem I am recovering from, what is your opinion? | Apr 16 2009 20:50 (UTC) |

cherry tree, I am certainly no expert, but I totally agree with what personaltrainer and abbi had to say. And, I just want you to know, too, that hearing your story, I want to reach right thru the computer screen and give you a big hug! I have always been on the big side, and am working on that, but I grew up with and knew well an anorexia sufferer, and a bulimia sufferer, and they did suffer! The biggest problem they faced was not what the scale said, but had had some experiece in thier lives that told them what you look like is the most important thing, and fitting some supposed mold in order to be accepted by society was a must. It is important to care for ourselves, and be healthy. It is hard to do that if you don't understand and love yourself, but are more concerned about what others think of you. I would encourage you to do some soul searching, and spend some time dealing with what is going on between your ears and in your heart. Getting that right will help you to be in tune with your body, too. It will tell you what it needs, if you are able to listen, and hear your own voice over everyone else's. Good Luck, and God Bless You!! |
