Weight Loss I'm NEVER going to understand this deficit thing!!! Nov 20 2009

The deficit is definitely the most important thing to concentrate on because the amount you need to eat changes with the amount of calories you're burning.  :)

I wish you the best of luck!

Weight Loss I'm NEVER going to understand this deficit thing!!! Nov 20 2009

Sedentary Burn= 2130
Exercise Burn   = 577

2130+577= 2707

So your total burn is= 2707

Calories consumed = 1775

Total deficit = 2707-1775 = 932 cals

You're supposed to have a total deficit of no more than 1000 calories a day which would in theory help you lose two pounds a week.  You seem to be right on track with that deficit, but just remember that you'll need to eat considerably more then 1200 calories a day :)  Calorie count probably meant for you to eat that only if you were not working out.

I hope this helped!

I'm pretty sure that your body burns more calories naturally when it is trying to fight off illness, so I wouldn't cut back.  You want to make sure that you have what you need to feel better sooner.  :)

Weight Loss Going vegan - Day one. Oct 08 2009
23:30 (UTC)

Sorry about the confusion, I wasn't trying to start a snowball effect honestly.  All I meant was that in terms of scientific calories, which are units of heat energy, one calorie is equal to another calorie because they have the same potential in latent energy.  I would never insinuate that all calories are created nutritionally equal because that's obvious not valid.  Better fuel = healthier body :)

I wish all the best in your life change!

Weight Loss Do you weigh apples whole or without the core? Oct 08 2009
22:15 (UTC)

I personally would weigh only the parts I'm going to eat :)  However if you don't want to carry them already cut I would weigh one without the core and use that weight for an average of the following apples of about the same size.

Hey I just also wanted to add that perhaps this post would be better received in the vegetarian forum so people who understand your reasons better than the average Joe can take a look.  Just trying to be helpful though.  :)

Technically a calorie is a calorie, but even though I'm only a lacto-ova veggie and not a vegan, I find that it is much easier to eat the right amount of calories thanks to lots of veggies and fruit.  Plus because you have to be careful about what you eat in order to be healthy you are more aware (in my humble opinion, and not that omnivores always don't) of what you put in your body so you can still get all of the nutrients for what your body needs.
